I got this too. Mine is through studentrate so I don't know what to tell them. Does anybody know if we can still do that EPRP thing to get a discount? Between this, making the discount only applicable to one line instead of all, and raising TEP prices I'm paying more now for the worst service of any major carrier and I'm kinda pissed.

Well the link IS sprint.com, so I wouldn't be worried. If it was a shortened link or something else I would be, but since it's pointing directly to sprint, nothing to worry about. All that site asks is for your phone number, which if they were a scammer, they already have. If they also asked for your SSN it would be shady.

Its Sprint doing an audit of your account. You either have a discount or were given a discount when you recently upgraded.
As part of the discount you have to now prove you are eligible for the discount.
Example would be a fire fighter getting a discount. He would have to take a pic of his FF ID, or something official from the department so sprint can verify you are able to get the discount.

What makes me weary is that the website it takes you is not even secure. Hell, I don't even see an SSL writeup when you hit submit.
So, again, a little weary.

Well it makes no difference to me cause i cant get my military discount since i have the simply everything plan. But i got the text and i thought it was a bit weird.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

Yes, this was recently put into effect in late July. From now on, all main line upgrades require the NVP discount to be confirmed. If you want to keep your discount, you must prove you are still employed there, or a retiree etc.

oh wow, this is pretty interesting that they are making you manually confirm this. (I guess smart for business but I didn't expect it)
Aside from just that text, was there anything else that was sent out? I don't ever remember seeing anything like that, but then again it was probably small print somewhere.

They just sent another text stating that the verification text was sent in error. I tried to verify before I received the second text and website said no verification needed.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app

Yeah, just got it too. I called in appalled that the website they lead us to is unsecure. And that I wouldn't input anything until that was fixed.
Glad they squared this stuff away.

Technically its supposd to be done at time of activation. Thats part of the local stores compliance.
However if its done online or over the phone its up to you to supply the credentials or loose the discount.
Back when i worked for a sprint rep store we had to document why we gave discounts and had to keep the info in case we got audited by Sprint.
Things have changed since then.

Also got the "sent you a message in error" text recanting the verification request.

Ditto.
So does this mean we're set? or are they going to come asking again?

We should be good. But as I wrote before, I'm not verifying anything until they make that link secure.

Phone Calls No Longer Show City and State?

Anybody else have this problem? Recently, my phone stopped showing the City and State of incoming and outgoing calls. It was a very minor feature, but it was nice to know who was calling me from where since everybody in college has a different area code than mine.
i belive that was your trial of "city ID" program, preloaded onto your phone by AT&T.
city ID is a pay service..

cityID was a 2-week trial. You should've gotten popups notifying you of that fact.
I never noticed this on my GS II, but I didn't run stock for long.
Now that you mention it though, that was one of my initial observations after having the iPhone, you saw city and state for incoming calls.

My phone is 3 weeks old and it's still showing City/State and no sign of a popup. Maybe they made the trial longer?
If you reflashed to a new ROM it probably reset the counter.

Yepp you should definitely try TrueCaller. It's a free global caller ID with city ID aswell.
You can get the APK from truecaller.com from your phones browser
I quickly switched to a free app to do that job. I'm using Mr. Number at the moment. I have no complaints with it. When a new number calls me, the app checks everyone else's contact list to come up with the caller's name. when my dentist called, the name that someone else used on their contact list showed up in the notification.

I'd be really worried if that's the case. Check your AT&T bill carefully. You may accidentally accepted the subscription and start paying for the service with a monthly fee.

It seems as its not free, just a 7-day trial then you pay $6.99 one time fee to continue using it for certain countries (US is one of them)
Here is a snippet fromtheir terms of use page
Users in the following countries will need to purchase the application for continued use after the 7-days trial period is over:
Canada Denmark Italy Norway Sweden United States Austria
Users in other countries will until further notice be able to use the application 100% FREE OF CHARGE (except for any data traffic costs from your operator). A user license to TrueCaller costs $6,99 (ONE TIME FEE) and entitles the holder a non-transferable, non-exclusive and unlimited term right to use the application on the device downloaded to without any further subscription fee, or any other purchases needed.

I jinxed it! I got the phone on the 6th but TODAY the CityID popup appeared. So maybe it's a 22 day trial. ;-) Anyway, certainly wasn't 2 weeks, at least not here. I made sure to click NO.
I actually went ahead and signed up for it. $2/month and now I know who the hell is calling. I know overall the TrueCall thing would be cheaper, but its integration on the calling screen just isn't as slick.
Also, I used a jig after I rooted, so I got like a full month for free!

* it only pops up when you receive a call.
* if you ignore or press cancel or back button, it will go on in trial mode for a few more days.
Mine poped up on the first call on the day 14.
I thought of that but I looked and I'd taken numerous calls over the last few days.
Hmmm....does the trial begin when the phone is first put into service or when the first incoming call is accepted? That's it -- looking back I didn't answer my first call until 10/14. All the rest I let go to VM.
Mystery solved, 14 days it is.

"We got hosed Tommy,... We got hosed..."

So, I bought a photon on Craigslist. I'm a firm believer that there are good people in the world as well as bad people. I spoke to the guy on the phone and he was very cordial. When asked, he told me the esn was clean, and that I could call sprint and verify. Upon delivery, his sister told me to call sprint to verify it's clean. I told her it wouldn't be necessary. I figured someone who is out to scam, isn't going to risk losing out on $250. So with that done, I went home. I hopped on checkesn.com and it told me the esn was not cleared. I was in shock, so i decided to sign onto sprint. After some research, I found out that you could figure out if the esn was clear by trying to activate it through the web interface. Same result returned. I called sprint and they told me that the phone was still attached to the account and that I had to ask the owner to release the phone. After I texted the guy, He said it was his mistake, and that he must have given me the wrong photon. He said he would call and have it removed from that account. He texted me back saying that it was cleared. 2 hours later, and it's still not cleared. I don't think that he would go through the rigamaroo of responding to me, if he wasn't planning on resolving this. Now its starting to seem more and more like I'm going to be stuck with a photon for a paperweight... sigh
Signed,

p.s. no, i dont want any prime real estate in the everglades...
Ouch...I wish you the best of luck. At least you know his number and how to get a hold of him. That means you've still got a leg to stand on.
Sent from my CWM OC'd CM7 Electrify.
yeah, knowing myself though, I will find away to get his address from that number... and I can be a very mean and vindictive person. I'm just trying to change...
Maybe it's not his fault and the carrier screwed up. Before jumping to conclusions, I would find out as much info as possible, then if not satisfied, try asking the guy if he'll give you a refund. No need to be "vindictive", that'll only lead to more trouble. Especially if it's not the guys fault. Sounds like he has been trying to help and if he were trying to scam you, he would ignore you. And after all is said and done, if you don't get it resolved then chalk it up as experience. There is some personal responsibility in buying from sites like craigslist and ebay. You stated that the seller told you to call and check the ESN first and you declined. If you would have done so, you wouldn't be in the situation you're in. Seems the blame should not be laid on the seller in the end, but on you for not doing your due diligence.
Sadely, I'm with stonesaber, and trust me, Sprint's computers are not the top of the litter. Take it to the store and see what happens.
It's probably attached to an account with a balance. If it isn't cleared, you have grounds to charge him (obtaining property under false pretense, a felony). Perhaps remind him of this.

No, I met with his sister at a public place. I just called her and she said that she has another phone connected to the account, so this one should not be attached to the account. I read somewhere that you have to wait something like 30 days before you swap esn's ( Don't recall if this applied to vzw or sprint). She said to call sprint and tell them it was a gift, and I wanted to manually activate it. She said if that doesn't work, she would switch out the phone with the one that they originally intended to give me. I just feel like when I try to call her back, her phone will be disconnected as well...
Worst case scenario, I can sell it to someone overseas for them to use with their sim chip... Don't know if anyone would want to pay $250 for it though.

Since it's connected to an account, it'd be easy for you to get that money back via court. Also - Since it can be used on GSM networks, you could configure that and sell it as an unlocked GSM device, recoup some of your losses, if not all.

Now I know... Stay away from Craigslist... I called her back, and she said she would get it squared away in an hour. What I find peculiar is that she called the phone she sold me, and apologized, and said she would get it disconnected, if not, she would meet me to give me another phone. I told her I would call her back at 12. She insists that she will give me another phone, should she not be able to remedy the situation with this one. Fingers still crossed.
I hope it works out for ya. Be calm and let her know that if it's not resolved one way or another legal action will be required.. this kind of crap happens all the time. People are bums.

Thanks for the reply nemanracing, but sure enough, everything has been remedied! One question, which hopefully you can answer. Now that the phone is clear and good to go for activation, is there anyway Sprint will " change their mind" and deactivate the phone? I don't know what this lady did, but it says the esn is clear. Just want to make sure the bill doesnt get tacked onto my account some how.
You definitely won't be held liable for any balance accrued by another individual. If it activates, you should be good to go.

Too Good to be True... but What is the Scam?

There's a guy who is supposedly from a store here in Los Angeles who says he can sell me a new Rezound for $100 even if I'm not eligible for an upgrade yet. I've looked up the store and it exists, I've seen the pics, he said I could go there and I've seen something that says the store has been in business for 22 years or something like that.
Now I saw his listing on Craig's List. I emailed him. His email back had bad grammar and spelling and didn't come across as very professional.
Yes there new. We are a private company for verizon business department so when you upgrade through our sytems you get to keep unlimited data because we offer it if you where not a Verizon grandfathered customer. We can do early upgrades because when you tranfer over to us youe number automatically because eligible by terms and conditions.

It sounds an awful lot like they are selling other contracts somehow. As in you are getting another account that is unlimited data... Or the IMEI on the handset is bad, and if that gets reported you have a brick, if the cops cone asking you about it... Well it happened to me with a computer repair job.
Phones can be cloned too. That happens. They're hacked, can become black listed etc.

Dont do it..reconsider.
When I had Sprint they would call me twice a month with deals to upgrade my phone early, only catch was you had to sign up for another line of service. They wouldn't tell you that till they actually started doing the upgrade.
I'd say go investigate it personally. If it looks good, doesn't require another contract, and the ESN is good (call a VZW store to confirm), then maybe you win. You can always walk away.

Yeah, that's what I figure I'll do. Seems that what might happen is my current contract is violated and I would have to pay early termination which would then make it more expensive than just buying a phone.
And I was almost talked down from the ledge...
I'm also going to see if I can strong arm Verizon into giving me a phone under warranty. It's worked for me before with Sprint, although my contract was up and so I could go get another phone free starting an new one with another provider. This time I'm still under contract. Worth a shot though. Trying to decide if it's best to do that with a call or in store.

yet they scam customers by releasing minuscule updates on their phones as a brand new product to force their moronic customers into buying the next one. so again, they're a company that scams morons and is still in business.
the only reason they have the "best marketing of any company ever" (which i won't even go there, because it's simply good marketing in this idiotic country) is because americans are sheep, juvenile and just plain ignorant when it comes to most things.

Note 3 AUDIO problem and Sprint's Response

So many Note 3 users are finding the actual phone to be unusable. There are cracking, distorting sounds when making phone calls. This was cited on some other Android websites so the issue is real.
Sprint acknowledged the issue on their own website forum. A "product ambassador" posted that Sprint and Samsung were aware of the problem and looking to solve it. Many people including myself asked if they could extend the return period since Sprint hasn't issued a statement on whether or not a software update will fix this issue. Sprint has not responded.
I checked Sprint's forum today and lo and behold the thread started by their OWN ambassador is now gone.
I feel that this is their way of hoping it quietly goes away.
In any case I kept a history of it because worst case scenario I will file a claim with my credit card company.
The credit card company will then fight the charges with Sprint. This is way better than me trying to get anything done with them.
Considering the charges for the two phones w/o activation fees were over $800, I'm sure my credit card company won't let it go without a fight.
Here is the link to prove that Sprint did indeed have a page up.

My Sprint rep called me today and told me his store was informed today of the issue and said that no sprint store is supposed to swap these phones out for the sound issue and that a fix is being worked on. Told him I think my battery is acting up, he told me I could come in and get a couple batteries from the returned notes tomorrow lol. So hopefully one of the few I grab will work better than this battery.

The coming fix better not be PRL 2000, like on the Sprint Note 2! (I don't know for sure if the issues are the same)

I remember seeing the Ambassador link on the Sprint website but never clicked on it to read their comments. The link you posted just go to a document not found page I believe. If you have a copy of the original ambassador post including the text can you re post it here so we can all see what the sprint ambassador had to say on this issue. Thanks! My phone sounded like crap on calls all day today and constantly I was asking people to repeat what they they said hoping the second time I could understand the garbled noise.

This garbled noise is no myth. I'm experiencing it big time with this phone and it's annoying the crap out of me!

I just got my Note 3 on Monday. It had call issues. It was so bad it was unusable. I called my company account rep and they sent me a new one on Tuesday. It has the same issue. I have a co worker that just bought the phone on his personal account. He said the more he used the phone the worse the issue became. He decided to tough it out. Sent one back today and still have one more to send back. I am hoping that they fix the problem. By the way I asked if the price changed by the time the problem was fixed would I be able to get the phone for the current price. I was told they cant really say. Thanks Sprint.
Since the deletion of the "product ambassador" statement I have noticed that the original Social Care Specialist Shannon_DE there have been no chatter from Sprint. Are they busy working or hoping we all go away.

Sprint took down the page.
However, notice that the same Ambassador just posted this today:
https://community.sprint.com/baw/co...ors-top-apps-for-your-samsung-galaxy-note-iii
It doesn't address any of the call issues that we're having and in fact, you can't even reply to the thread. I was going to write something along the lines of, "We know the phone is great, we want to know what's being done to resolve the issue."
In any case, it's the same ambassador and it's pretty upsetting that instead of responding to our concerns, they post some useless garbage like that.
I REALLY hope people are registering and posting on the Sprint forum. The louder we get about it, the better our chances at getting this resolved IMHO.

I am curious to why you ended up getting the phone when you said you skip this version? I ask because I know a few folks who are on the fence etc. They have different providers other than Sprint...

I was going to skip it because of the tri band issue...But seeing as how I had the original Evo and never got wimax in those two years I felt if I upgraded now i'd have an upgrade available sooner than later. In other words I don't think having a tri band phone will make much difference in the next year or so.

nope...go for it. I'm hoping the word gets out on this so Sprint and Samsung feel some pressure. I'm going to post about it on the Sprint "review" on Amazon, Best Buy, etc
Just the fact that their ambassador had the audacity to post today about some nonsense while ignoring the real concerns screams, "screw the consumer." Notice on his thread on the Sprint forum that there is no option to reply...I wonder why that is.
note 3
I have the same problem...
Why does everyone think its a hardware issue? Its clearly a network issue, this has been proved numerous times in other threads. Bugs happen, Im sure it will be fixed soon.

I don't have this problem on my Note 2, my son's one or my wifes SIII. It could be a software issue? But there is an issue phone related.

I wonder what the root of the cause could be to trigger this into happening..I driver all over Florida from Jacksonville to Tampa to Melbourne to Miami.Ive talked to my wife for hours and never heard crackling or popping or any kind of robotic voice sound.Just the typical dropped call and can you hear me now moments between tower changes while driving.

Ive said in numerous posts that it must be software or network related, but until SPRINT verifies that we don't know for sure.
I had the S2 known as the Epic Touch on Sprint. It could never find your location off GPS and that was supposed to be an "easy fix" as well but it never came.
I had to literally reset the phone everytime I wanted to use the GPS.

Same here in Oklahoma. Got the phone on day of release and not once have I heard any crackling or poppling. Sound is nice and clear.
Wonder if there is a bad batch out there?
I'm using hardware version 900p.12 and no crackling or garbled audio. Just got it a few days ago.

If you activated your device on Sprint's network you should have received an activation code. I ordered my phone directly from Sprint and did the activation myself OTA. Once activated I received an email with an "Activation Code" written within the text. That code IS your MSL. I believe that Best Buy and other B&M stores also print this code somewhere on your activation paperwork when the computer spits it out. Have a look and see if you find that magic 6 digit number.

I've done it even over the chat line. If they say no, sometimes they will. Hang up and try again.
If you have root there are apps out there that have worked. I assume they still do, but it's usually less work to just chat.
Tried the apps, couldn't find one that works... I'll call when I get a chance then.

You could use the online chat option through their website. I use it all the time for recording purposes. Pa Is a two party consent state when it comes to recording but online conversations get sent to you an hour or so after I save it for that purpose.

Here is a few tips from me just from over the years.
Get in the habit of activating new phones via chat and ask for it while activating, it looks less "suspicious" to them even know it shouldn't be.
Don't ask for the MSL code directly. I tell them something like oh and by the way can you give me the reset code? I like to keep it handy in case I have to do a ##786 reset. This works almost every time
If a rep is being dumb or heckling you just give up and try back get someone else. I wanna say only one time I have been turned down, just say ok no problem have a good day. No point in arguing they already made up there mind not to give it to you.
Remember most people here probably know way more about phones than any regular Sprint CSR which is why I can't stand calling them.
Getting MSL is super easy and I have always just got it right from Sprint most the time without issues as long as you pitch it correctly. :fingers-crossed:

That is some great advice right there, I called sprint (first time ever trying this), said I normally activate my own devices but for some reason sprint wouldn't give me the discounted price unless they activated it in store. I asked them for msl # in case I had to do hard reset ##786 on phone key pad and the nice lady asked me if I had a pen and paper ready.
msl
unfortunately i wasted an hr and a half this afternoon and got a no no from the reps... i would pay for it even because my lte is messed up so bad in my area.. arnt there websites that offer that unlock yet for a price..

Try calling off hours , maybe a rep from an out sourced location or vise versa would help . I took me about 10 mins to get by calling the 877 number. Just give it another shot, you should be able to get it. I don't think there is any other way , but don't quote me on that.
man they said that it could potentionally unlock the phone so they cant give it.. i dont know how else to ask.. tried again but its aafter hrs apparently

You could try what I did, I used sim-x's advice and told the rep that I normally activate my device, but sprint did it for me and I need the msl number if I had to do a hard reset via ##786 on key pad. You may have just got a finicky sprint rep.
thanks bud..iv gotta try tomm because its past buisness hrs..im missing so much calls right now ...

What does missing so much calls have to do with getting your MSL? What setting do you plan on changing to combat that?
If all else fails, call tech support and tell them
You can't get data or similar, fake it.
Eventually they will manually ask you to go into EPST
And give you the MSL.
You could even say a field is blank or something.
P. S. I don't think going in their will fix your problem.
My wifes M8 is having similar issues. It was fine before last update.
