remove Gapps.apk - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

hello. i am trying to Remove Gapps apk with a root explorer. I searched every folder and can not locate...can someone direct me to were this is located. thank you

Oooh. Be careful. There's been many a sad tale from users removing things such as that. Since you have to flash them to install them, you probably need another zip to revert.

Thank you

thank you, i'm trying to fix a problem with JB Muni rom...the posted that was what was needed to fix the issue....i'm a noob so i can't post on that thread, but thanks for the 411

Ranger got it ...
Removal of Google services will render your device useless if done incorrectly.
Services framework is built into the rom.
The only current rom that has this separation done for you ...is CM ....
Be careful, and run 2 backups before removing "anything " Google services related ...g

You should use Titanium Backup and freeze any app, then see how your phone runs. You can step back easier to a working system if you have to.

I'm just trying to fix the att carrier in the top left corner....i don't want to brink my phone ...is it best to just wait until MIUI provide a fix..or if i do the two back ups and delete will it damage my phone? I really like this rom....it has lags but over all i like it best but just want to fix that at&t problem ....thanks for your reponse

If you are not "sure" what you are removing, then dont remove it.
I am "sure" that the carrier icon is a system process that will break other areas of the phone if removed.
Perhaps you can request this feature change in MIUI ??
the developers are very kind, and may decide to cook that feature in....g

The carrier name isn't an app that you can remove. You would have to do some decompiling voodoo or some such surgery. Just put a piece of bacon over it -- you'll actually look forward to looking at it.

On certain carrier if the system doesn't recognized the phone as one of their own, incoming MMS get resize to very small file. I know with Tmobile US it happen. Some ROM like CM let you change user agent. This is to edit MMS.apk to allow full size incoming MMS

Will wait for "How To Use" in the OP, I guess. I really need this.
Changing the MMS user agent to Nokia N95 or iPhone 3g fixes the small pictures for me
Again, this is for roms without the edit MMS user agent option, namely MIUI.
Thanks for this. I was visiting the thread over on miui every week.

If you install the modded apk, do you think it'll fix if your using, say, GoSMS?

It should because the stock MMS.apk is the one that handle incoming MMS
Thank you will test, does this fix (mms.apk) have to be uptaded every Friday?
Tried this fix, cant receive pics.
So is this working or not? Left MIUI to go to Sense ROM to get pictures but now missing trackball alerts/wake and speediness of MIUI. But don't want to lose pictures when coming back..
is their any (HOW TOO) to use this as my MMS pic's are tiny when i receive them
and im on T-Mobile using a sense Rom any help would be great

Is rooting this much easy?

I came across this thread which hints at rooting in a very simple and in few seconds...My question is that if it is this much easy then why it has been made so complicated in other ways??? Is it really working??? Is there any drawbacks in this type of rooting??? should I go for this way of rooting???

First of all thanks a lot for the reply..Sorry for the mistake I made to post it here..I was thinking that it is Q & A forum because I opened several tabs at a time.
The reason I made a separate thread was that I wanted other people also to comment not just those people who replied to that thread...Because I didn't see any expert member to comment on that thread.
Sorry if I am wrong...I am noob to android phone...Before I was using windows phone.
Rooting or flashing is easy as long as you can read, interpret and understand. If you can't, well that is where the "complications" come in.

BTW the only reason for me to root was to get rid of Samsung blotware.
If you are new to this (I'am) don't delete apps ... freeze using Titanium Pro and PLS read this list before you freeze anything:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Ag43oj7rLQP4dENZcmhGN0ZUa3pHSENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
I don't know if this method is really an exploit or just a consequence of the Android platform being a development platform open to anyone with a PC and an USB cable to install things...
But the problem with real exploits is that they can be fixed on future versions and be device/manufacturer specific. While installing modified kernels is a feature available for most devices at the cost of the warranty (sometimes).

[Q] Looking for "permissions" control solution/app

Hi,
Total noob here. Just came from Blackberry 2 days ago and my head is about to explode with all i have learned about rooting, bootloaders etc.
I Got a Galaxy S4-VRUAME7. Rooted it last night.
I am trying to find an app that will allow me to control permissions given to installed apps.
I have tried a few out with not so great results.
LBE reboots my phone (known problem with Jelly-bean)
and a few others i tried that froze (cant remember which)
Is the best option to use a translated chinese version of LBE? like this?
And if so then do i need to install from my desktop following instructions such as these
or is this a better route:
PDroid Privacy Protection which needs a patch. What would I need to know about using this one with my rooted droid?
or....?
Thanks for any suggestions/guidance.
Xposed framework with xprivacy is what u need.. No hassle of patching framework like pdroid but got the same function, probably even more powerful.

thanks! But now my head is really spinning.
Is this my required reading for the night:?
430 pages here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320783
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=biz.bokhorst.xprivacy.pro

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43892381&postcount=1703&nocache=1&z=9436779862769084
I would pay a good amount if i was able to just install one app. but i guess that would mean i would have to find something else to do tonight.
Just read xprivacy thread. Reading first page is enough I think. Usually first page of any thread is full of info on howto do things right. Basically what u need to do is root your phone, install xposed installer then install xprivacy.
Ok, I installed the Xprivacy Installer and now I am at this point:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
When I click the "Download/install Xposed" link I am taken to this post.
From here do I just click on the "....latest.apk" link and it installs?
Do I need to install any other patches? What are the chances of getting into a "boot loop" as i did with LBE ?
I would like to help out however possible so I would buy whatever I can to support this developer. In this case would i install the "XPrivacy Pro enabler" and then also get Xprivacy Pro ? or are they the same thing.
Try asking in xprivacy thread. I haven't got enough experience using xprivacy to guide u through it but asking actual people who actually using it on its dedicated thread would be better.

will do. thanks for the help.
I got XPrivacy Pro Installed and working ! Now i can install worthless aps like facebook on my phone and limit the permissions.
I thought when I left Blackberry 3 days ago that i was done monkeying around to get stuff onto my phone! I was wrong.
If I had posting rights (i think i need to do 10 posts before I can hyperlink) I would write up a description of all it took to do the install. Definitely not easy for a noob to do. The installation consisted of multiple parts/components and instructions were not clear to a noob like me and they were not all on one page.
But it was all a good learning experience which will help with my next hackadroid venture.
thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
Glad to hear that u nailed it at last. Enjoy your secured droid. Probably more secured than berries now

Yes, I need the LGPhone.apk. The LG Contacts.apk that you ported from G2 its working on P760, but its force closing when you want to switch to dialpad. I think it will work only with the LGPhone.apk from G2.
LGPhone.apk is not relative with dialpad.
Post/upload a logcat to check it.

I already deleted your LGContacts.apk, soo I cant make a logcat, but I had force closing when i tried to switch to dialpad and/or to call history from contacts.apk. I was thinking its the LGPhone.apk.
Now, I think its something related with com.lge.systemservice.core.jar
Off topic: you can port the dialpad from G2?
Tanks
Its NOT relative to LGPhone.apk. I can "port" this but will NOT work with your phone (either mine).
Dialpad comes with LGContacts.apk, that's why you see it in first post.
com.lge.systemservice.core.jar is more relative with your problem.
I can not help more with out logs. You have an other phone!
[If you want, you can try to replace the relative *.png icons from LGContacts.apk (from G2) to yours *contacts*.apk]
It's possible to port it to P760?

Yes, as long as P760 has 4.1, is possible to port it.
BUT, I don't have this phone and can NOT test it, so you MUST give me logs! This is the only way possible.
Can you tell me how to do this, i have root, adb etc.

I cannot uninstall system apps even after I ROOTED my android phone

Hi everyone
I managed to root my android phone yesterday (I checked with 2 root-checker apps). Now I'm having trouble removing pre-installed apps like Twitter and Yellow Pages which I never use. I tried few uninstall apps, and after granting them permission from SuperUS, they perform an uninstall (some apps do it forcefully) and give a message that the apps were deleted. The apps are not removed from my application list but when I click on it to run, they give an error message. But when I restart my phone, those apps I deleted start working again as if nothing happened.
What I'm I doing wrong? My phone is HTC One M8, android.
Thank you for any help

I just tried it now but same problem. I select twitter to delete. It gives me a message that uninstall was successful. I check to see if it's listed on my home page, and it is although when I click on it, it gives an error message. However after restarting the phone, twitter somehow recovers and works again!!! Really strange. It's as if it wasn't uninstalled to begin with.

You need to remove read / write protection. You can do this most easily by flashing a modded kernel (boot.img) through fastboot. Alternatively, there's custom roms that have this already or you can mod a kernel module. There's a guide in the General section of your phone's forum. If you go that route, make sure that the module is compatible with the update you're on as the guide might be outdated.
