I think my battery drains too quickly is this right? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all.
In my s3 I played a game for 10 mins and for rest of time I was installing apps and tapatalking is my battery draining too quick?
After full charge in 1hr 20,% lost

Hey
If you've lost 20% with your screen on constantly for an hour and a half and played a battery hungry game for 10 mins then I'd say you're getting average battery performance.
That side, you can hardly give it definitive answer Based on the info you've given. My advice is to grab Better Battery Stats from Play Store and run your phone normally for a couple of days.
The big problem with this phone is that it's impossible to put down though

ur mobile coverage is rather bad...
could be d cause.

looks normal to me for continue use.. screen, wifi, etc on almost the entire hour and a half. once the device goes idle/sleep the "awake" bar should not be blue, otherwise if it stays blue that means a app or something is keeping it awake.

I had avast anti virus and it was keeping my phone awake.. So I uninstalled that

That seems normal to me. I bought a second Samsung battery. Now, I'll never be afraid of running out of juice! It's worth it compared to getting a 4,000mAH battery that makes your slim samsung turn into an obese samsung. :fingers-crossed:

Battery life?

Hi,
I was comparing battery life to my desire s. I know there are different specs and the galaxy s 3 needs a bigger battery for the screen etc but I charged the desire s to a 100% and took it of charge. It took around 10 minutes for that percentage to drop to 99% while using the phone and considering it has a smaller battery. On the galaxy s 3 when I take it off charge it goes straight from 100 to 99 and while using the phone for the same time 10 minutes the battery has decreased dramatically to about 94.
I am on RGUI rom with siyah kernel

No day is considered complete without at least one new topic about battery issues or low RAM.
Please let me stress that the forum search has no issues and works fairly well... one needs to use it tough.
Li-Ion packs don't like being fully charged or fully discharged, so the phone's integrated charger only goes to 99% and keeps it there on trickle charge which will significantly extend the phone's average battery life.
It doesn't matter tough if your phone goes from 100% to 99% instantly or stays at 100% for 10 minutes; the overall capacity (from fully charged to power-off) is the only relevant factor. And that one should be better
Thanks for the info but I see my desire s battery better though

U say ur desire had better batterylife. Did u have 3g or wifi on on both? My galaxy s2 lasted 4 days with 64 orosent left. Almost no screen on time and 3g and wifi off. It wasn't better than s3 when using it the same way.

Samsung galaxy s3 Problem !!

Hello i just bought my s3 yesterday and battery is draining very fast i have used the fix but i have that problem of screen which takes 88% of batery and it's not normal ! here is a screenshot

Keeping the screen on will dran the battery since that's what screens do.
Regardless of the device (including laptops), screens always take >50% of the battery.
Could you show the screen-on time?

Let me venture a guess. When you get a new phone, you tend to play with it a lot, hence the screen on time and battery drain Give it a few days, it will be fine -- this phone has great battery life.

The battery needs to go through a few full cycles of drain and charge before it's reached optimal performance. First week battery drained more but now it's performing brilliantly.
Just keep letting it drain completely and charging fully a few times and have auto brightness selected.

I've heard that li-ion batteries don't suffer from memory issues and there's therefore no reason to calibrate them or run them in any specific charge/discharge cycle.
If you ask 100 different people about how best to use your battery you'll get 100 different answers. Don't worry about it, just enjoy the phone.
Hmm. This phone probably has the best battery life of any android phone I've owned, and I've had a few.

Tripe.
Minimum of 3 cycles to reach peak performance. I have flashed hundreds of roms/kernals, it ALWAYS takes a few days for the battery to normalise.
Op, take a chill pill, calm down, post again in a few days. If you're still having drain, it will be down to an app or your settings.

[Q] Overnight battery drain

I am new to Android and very new to Samsung devices coming from iphone. Last night I was at 100% battery before bed and woke up at 71%. I didn't use the phone once. Is that normal? Should I be turning things off or something? 30% overnight drain seems wrong.

Seems like something is amiss. I left mine on all night lastnight at 33% I THINK and its at 18% right now. 1d 1h 55m 47s on battery with 3h 43m 23s of screen on time right now at 10:29AM
Hmm. I forgot to say I have power saving enabled and the usual battery saving tips too.

That js a very big problem. as you can see i get alot of time on battery. The graph shows that it charged about 10% while I was sleeping (not true). Are you rooted?

my device drains less than 2% over the course of 8hrs when sleeping...you have a app causing a wakelock.

No. There's something wrong. Force Close the messaging app and restart it. Wait a few hours and see if its battery usage goes down.
Possible...
The most likely culprit is the "wakelock" issue mentioned above.
Basically it means something... most likely a poorly written app (also most likely a 3rd party non-google app) is preventing the phone from entering its idle/sleep mode, in which it scales back the CPU to minimum, and other bits enter low power states to conserve battery life.
An app that likes to live on the internet or update frequently, or constantly wakes the device to do things, can cause large amounts of drain as well.
It is also possible that signal strength is a cause. Poor/low signal can keep the radio working at higher power levels and that drains battery fast.
Is there any way to check for wakelock applications causing issues? I have removed a few possible applications and force stopped others. I seem to be losing 1-3% battery per hour on idle. Normal now based on everyone's experience?
If it is a signal strength issue I can live with that but the drain still seems steep.
Sorry for the questions. Too new to this to be able to determine if there are issues and everyone is having great battery life.

Battery issue after root( how to fix)

Ok, after I rooted I seem to be having a strange. Battery issue .. anyone have a fix for this? (I user antutu to control CPU and for now I'm busting using it to monitor+ dropped my phone iinto eco mode ( where it usually is) I can counter bat loss by doing the normal stuff but I never had to do.anything other then turn off data before... and even then... but from 10:50 pm to 2:40 am the phone went from 90% to 12% . And that was ..( eco was off) lol ... but I have never had that happen. Before even with that.
Thanks for any advice

Right after I rooted mine I had terrible battery as well. I ended up reformatting (not wipe, actually formatting my system and caches) and then installed my rom again, fixed permissions and my battery life has been amazing. If I don't use the phone my battery maybe drains five percent all day long. If I use it a lot it will last most of the day as well.

The other thing you should check is you fast dormancy.
If you're flashing custom ROMs it's best to do it at a FULL 100% charge. In the past, before I started doing this, I had major battery life "problems." My phone would drop from 100 to 1 in a matter of hours and just hang on 1% for hours on end. If you haven't done this, download Battery Calibration, turn off your device and plug it in. Once it reaches 100%, turn the device on, run the app, and restart your device WHILE STILL PLUGGED IN. Once everything settles you should be good to go.

From the looks of your screen shot you have alot of things running in the background. Emulator, torrent and media servers drain battery quickly. I can get 2 days with my setup. Holy crap you have your screen on alot. What is your screen on time? If you are getting 4 or 5 screen on time, that isn't bad. Looks like your phone sleeps when screen is off which is good. I just think you are killing your battery with on screen time. Most people saying they get 1 to 2 day use don't have the screen on that much. I usually get 5 hours of screen time on 4g. However my 5 hour screen on time spands over 15 hours. Also depends on what you are doing when screen is on... Playing games drain vs checking email for example.
