[Q] How would you rate the different JB ROMs for SGSIII? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
As the title says "How would you rate the different JB ROMs for SGSIII?"
Pros/Cons?
Which firmware is most stable at the moment? I have tried the last 6 but they keep getting worse. DLH9 was horrible.
I LOVE the Stock Samsung Camera App. Which ROMs does it work on?
A penny for your thoughts....

LI1 is by far the most stable, the others have issues, everything seems to be fine on this one

I just use AOSP ROM's, the speed and smoothness is unrivaled, it wipes the floor with normal TW ROM's, unfortunately there is still the memory leak issue but i think a solution to this will be found soon when all the necessary sources are released by Samsung, i actually don't really miss some Samsung features like i thought i would, speed, smoothness and excellent battery life does it for me and AOSP is the way to go IMO.

What camera app can compete with Samsungs own?

not just compete, beats it, i got this for 10 cents when there was a sale on in the market but even at this price it's worth it.

i would advice you to try the hypergalaxy 1.2.1 rom its small, BEST battery life so far from any rom ive used, (50% battery after 12 hours, 3 hours on screen) also its quite smooth and nimble but due to lots of bloatware being removed so you would need to download a few add-ons which is okay because they only take a few seconds! Also most of the other roms start to lag even though i clear cache and clear most ram being used a few times a day using titanium backup anways Go ahead and tell me your experience

^ LOL XD I am too. And I am sure Slaphead is too!

I have tried Android Revolution since 3.0.0. By now it has hit 8.0.0. It keeps "stuttering" and lagging for me. Gets worse as longer it is running. I did try Resurrection Remix. It was good until I got a release where it was horrible. Which prolly wasn't RR's fault.
Samsung Camera does not work on RRso that is why I switched. Also that the Samsung HX Mod didn't workas well. I have CameraZOOM Fx but it is lagging but that might be the ROMs fault. How is CZOOM Fx better? In what sense?
I am running NovaLauncher at the moment. Which makes it a little bit easier to flash and restore. But it stilla job to do with every switch of ROM. Isn't it?

welll samsung is gonna release the official JB in the "NEAR FUTURE":silly:
so im waiting for that to happen
hope its soon :fingers-crossed:

[REQUEST] stock camera for MIUI and CM7

Can anyone get the Stock Camera's working on Miui and CM7 because the ones on there just plain suck, or just don't have enough options.
I would like this as well.

bump +1. i was thinking the same thing earlier today...i miss the panorama feature!
i like these cameras, but the stock one, albeit doesn't look as cool, has way more options
Stock Samsung Android Camera not available on MIUI (Not Samsung ROM)
That and the battery life with MIUI are my only complaints - at least this camera works every time...

Only reason I haven't gone back to either of those is all honesty is cuz the camera. Screw gps never worked for me but the stock camera.apk from touchwiz was something else
Picture quality from the stock Camera pisses on the MIUI one. The quality I saw was horrible.

it's crap. Especially the camcorder
plus one again., no offense to miui dev, but their camera is really bad compare to the stock camera, though the rom itself is great.. ^_^
Agreed!

is it really the apps fault, or is it the ROM? i've always wondered if it was the MIUI rom... idk. but yeah, it sucks lol
Yeah..I also miss the stock cam.

I have a feeling its as kernel issue and not a ROM issue.
To test (if some wants) flash a 2.2 ROM and take a pic with the stock cam and Miui and compare.
The reason I think its a kernel issue is some 2.3.x ROM kernels have issues with HD video. My thinking is since in essence its based off the I9000 kernel its not really the "best" drivers for the camera.
Next time I flash a 2.2 ROM I may test it.
Sorry guys but this is a oldddddd thread and was never solved, and i have infact grown to like the new miui camera, since i havent been on touchwiz in over a year.

Best Rom for Performance

Hey guys just switched from a skyrocket. loving the new phone. just wondering which rom+kernal combination is the best for performance. battery life isnt a concern for me as i have an external battery charger with 2 batteries always charged. also curious if leaving the cpu clocked at 1.6 in performance governer bad for the processor.
all the roms, at this point, perform pretty well. Try one and see if you like it.
I have not even rooted my SGS2 but reading through, I've seen many posts saying UnNamed ROM and Entrophy512 DD kernel are great for performance and battery life. It retains the TouchWiz GUI though.
I've tried many different ROMs that are available right now and I have not noticed any significant performance difference (not OC'd). Maybe my idea of 'good performance' is different from others.
miui with siyah
Please do not post 'best ROM' threads as they quickly get closed and just end up cluttering the forum. There is no best ROM, only the one that works best for you. Do your homework, read up on any ROM you're interested in and then try it and see if you like it.
If you like touchwiz and the stock look UnNamed is great. If you like the look of ICS then ICScreweD is a great ROM. If you want to have an AOSP experience try CyanogenMod 7. MIUI is a whole other unique experience as well. It really depends on what you want.

Though the Touchwiz 4 launcher is closer to ICS than Cyanogenmod is.
Try them all, its pretty easy
use stock for at least one week and then try unnamed first and go around all the custom roms if you want, finally you will end up with unnamed.
important note: backup backup backup if possible copy them to PC after every backup and label them for future ref.

Pretty much, but I noticed Siyah Kernel performs better than the DD kernel. It just isn't stable for me, my phone will not wake up and I have to hold the power button to reboot. Happens once every 2 days.
I personally don't care for UnNamed but I think it's got the most theme support. I've gravitated to mainly going back and forth between CM7 and SHOstock 1.7 with most of the time spent using SHOstock.
I think you'll find you won't be able to detect much difference between the two main kernels we've all been running, Siyah and Entropy; they are both well supported by excellent developers.
But like a few others have mentioned, you need to try them for yourself and pick what makes the most sense for your daily use. Enjoy the SGS2 salad bar!
I'm a new sgs2 owner and have tried basically every rom on the first couple pages of this forum. UnNamed, ICScrewD, ICS'd Out, SHOstock, etc.
My favorite was a toss-up between ICScrewD and UnNamed. I ended up going back to stock however simply due to some wifi issues I had will just about every rom except stock.
Just do as suggested....root it, CWM it, and flash 'til you can't flash no more.
I've been getting great performance and battery life running an older MIUI rom. Haven't updated in a while, it's about 3 weeks old. By far MIUI has the best skins, so if you're after looks, MIUI is where it's at.
Every rom is different, every kernel is different and every phone is different. What works for A, B and C may not work well for X, Y and Z. You have to try them for yourself and see which combo WORKS BEST FOR YOU because nobody can tell you that but yourself.

I wouldn't suggest trying it.
I switched to it a while ago from Passion, after a day i went back.
It felt laggy, and not the normal lag but it stuck at one screen for atleast 30 seconds and then resumed what i wanted to do. It is also not up-to-date with the new bug fixes etc neo has made on Euphoria and Passion.
Try Euphoria or Passion, those are the best. I'm on Euphoria right now.
" a Best Rom " question is too subjective. A lot of users love passion, but my device was virtually unusable on the 10 builds i tried. Docs master v2 was solid and stable. Zenwich is a cut above anything else imo. But like i said, it is subjective. Flash them and see what works for you. You have die hards that will swear by what they are on now, so judge for yourself. Also gps is a non issue for me. I am one of the lucky ones..my Gps always works

For my ICS Passion is a good ROM, but the decission what is the best rom is a is a very personal decision, you can try euphoria or passion or any other rom development section and in the end you will decide, after you do your tests, let us know what is best for you.

Telus ICS this week maybe

I asked Telus via twitter and this is what I got
@Kevin_B_Robert Hi there! Jesselle here from @TELUSsupport, we are working with Samsung to get it out later this week.

VERY excited for this! Hoping holding out for the official release was worth it
:highfive:
Trust Telus to release the previous OS as the new one is coming out. Still very happy to get media control on my lock screen. :victory:
I just noticed this on the Telus software update page.... http://www.telusmobility.com/en/AB/Software-Updates/index.shtml
It must be imminent.
That would definitely be nice although I don't know that it'd be much better than just using a rom.

I've tried several roms, the most recent being King - Kang and all seem to crash my phone and have strange little bugs and issues that pop up.
King-Kang was crashing my phone 1 or 2 times a day where as I've never had a crash with stock gingerbread. I hope stock ICS can do the same with all the added ICS features.

I'm using it as well and it's working pretty well. I just want to have my S-Pen working though..
On a side note how are your data speeds on the current ROMs? Even with the official ICS out I still get horrible speeds(HSPA ~2Mbps, LTE ~5Mbps download but 14Mbps upload) when I am using stock based ROMs. Only when I am using AOKP/CM9 ROMs I get regular speeds (HSPA ~10Mbps, LTE 20-40Mbps)
Looking forward to this update!

Woke up to the update notification. Installed without a hitch. Lost my Home screen icons so i'll have to redo that but everything else seems good.
I had this Note rooted with King Kang and several other Roms and my counter was in the teens. I reverted back to stock without resetting the counter and just did an OTA update and had no problems.
Had to reload stock recovery and try again, first attempt failed as cwm choked
Where did you find the stock recovery image? I can't seem to find it on here anywhere. Thanks!

ROM/Kernel Setup for Best Battery Life Experienced

So I have found several threads about this in other device forums but not so specifically here for our Verizon Note 2. With that said, what rom/kernel combo have you experience the best battery life with? This thread isn't not meant to say which rom or kernel is better or performance, just what you have personally tried and found to offer the best battery life overall. Thanks
Am running Stock TW with stock kernel.
I have seen 1 day and 9 hours with about 6 hours of screen time.
Already a thread on this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021191
sent from my Note 2
Trial and error gets you to the final result. Every device is different so one rom/kernel combo may not net the same result for another user. Thus, this thread is kinda pointless to me.

This thread is different since it is about battery life in general instead of combinations which have produced great battery life. However, the similarity is there- agreed.

I know this already, so that's why I do not take to much stock in it, but getting other's people's opinion of what has worked best for them is what I was curious about (it might work well for as well).

For reasons unknown to me, I always find myself going through a cycle: go back to stock locked, use the phone for a few hours then wonder why I did that, root, install multiple roms, then a few days later relock again.
My opinion bone stock is best for getting the battery life. If course I don't exactly stay put on one thing anyway. ..
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Tried most and keep going back to jedi rom and saber kernel.
Very very smooth and good on battery considering I'm OC to 1920.
That said I don't care about battery with this phone, I use the hell out of it all day and charge at night. 5-6 hr screen on.
I don't miss my Nexus one bit. It was a pig and I always had spare battery and charger everywhere I went. Good riddance. .... I love this phone.

Awesome- I still am on stock just trying to get over all the intricacies of stock before I more onto something new. I'm still dumb-founded that it last aaallll day even while using it for hours often time without the need to reboot, clear memory or even change the kernel settings. Love it. Thanks for the feedback.
