Dust in my camera, how can I fix without replacing? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well to put it short, I replaced the screen myself, and dust seems to have gotten into the back camera, I've tried blowing it, vacuuming it, tapping it but nothing has seemed to have solved the problem. Is there any other way to fix this without having to purchase another camera replacement, which is around $40?
Here's an image of it

Isnt the dust between the camera module and camera window(which is part of the phones rear housing.
Ive had a look at the spare camera I have here and there is a small gap between the chrome housing and the black circular thing that sits on the lens.......is the dust somewhere in there.
I thought the camera innards would be sealed, but maybe not.
Youd have to unstick the camera module and clean that and the inside of the phone housing,to see if that helps.
Can you post the link where you got the camera module for $40 from,as there people on here looking to get them.

Hi yeah, do you know how I would take the camera apart? There isn't a seal around the gap in between the actual camera lens.
The phone housing itself is clean, I've cleaned all of it and replaced the screen as well, but however pulling apart the phone has lead for the dust to actually get into the camera itself, and stick there, hitting it doesn't even take it out anymore.
A while back with the same problem I found a $40 camera on ebay, obviously they're all aftermarket, so if there's nothing wrong with the actual camera, there's no need to buy an aftermarket part, but I'm slightly picky with these types of things and I want to get it replaced or fixed.
Thanks for the response.

Some people have said they are $100+ but the only price I seen was about $60.......but the seller had no stock, and maybe never will.
I would try to flip off the chrome box cover thing and see whats under there.
You could buy my one,but donate the money to this site somehow.

I really like the look of the blue case. Cheers for showing us these.
Looks like from doing a bit of research on google they are roughly a good $15-20 to buy so not too bad (that's Aussie dollars)

amazing... where i am buy in indonesia ?
Great case (I have one) although it doesnt cover much of the front of the phone ie front edges or buttons when lying face down on a surface and the camera/mic area is also exposed when lying down on a surface - otherwise excellent case.
Oh yea the right hand side of mine pops off and the case moves slightly back and forth over the phone causing scratches - the movement is solved with sticky tape between the back of the phone and the inside of the case.
I have incidentally since bought a Krusell case which is far far superior in many ways (see post) but does increase the size of the phone a lot more than this slim fitting profile Imak case.
P.S - dust/dirt getting between the back of the phone and the case can cause a sandpaper scratching effect between the hard surfaces and I used some sticky tape to stop the slight movement as the case moved over the phone to also stop the scratching (and the movement).

Otterbox commuter mod

So I was having the rebooting issue that so many of us are having with different cases.... I know about the other mod where you modify the back of the phone but I did not really want to do that so I took the case and phone and really looked into the problem...
What I found was otter is putting a really nice "bump" of rubber on the inside of the case so the users get a nice and easy button push... Well after some playing i realized this made the button way to easy to push. So easy that any pressure was holding the power button down. Now our phone have a ultra slim easy to press power button as it is, but with the cases added "bump" on the inside its over kill. So I took a razor blade and SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY cut the extra bump out...

It looks a little sloppy in the pictures but by taking my time I got it smooth and flat. Now I have a little play room on the button (I actually like the feeling more now!) and it has not rebooted alllllll day.
I would say if you're like me and don't want to modifie your phone... I would try this first.... With the case on you can't see it and no body will ever know you did it when you go to sell the phone .. unless they really know what to look for.. ... But when you go to resell your phone they might notice the base cover being modified....
This might work with other cases too! Let me know what you think and let everyone know if you try it and it works with other cases!

Not sure why guys with rebooting issues don't hold the case manufacturer accountable for an obvious design flaw. I owned 4 different cases and none of them had this problem. If my case was causing my phone to reboot, I would just return it for one of the many other cases that work fine.

EDIT: Nevermind you were looking for Soft Rubber, Sorry i am not sure but i will keep the links above for others.
I have 5 pieces of standart carbon looking covers, if anyone could find a place to buy these new back covers, please post it. I think the UK and South east mb860's are shipping with these covers nowadays.

Although I have no idea if they ship to the US. I am consider picking an atrix up on the cheap. if you do get one shipped, share a couple shots.
Cool, contacted them for 10 pieces shipping to Turkey. Will let you know how it goes.
you should ask them if they come with speaker grill or not.
Is the case rubberized or just standard plastic case.
Bet it is simple plastic, thow I bet it has a little more grip wrt the original due to matte finishing..
As said I am just betting, never seen one of those except from photos..
I emailed eoem.cc about the speaker grill two times but they didn't return. I don't think this is a company that focus on end-buyers but bulk buyers.
That's a shame. I'd love a cover that wasn't as slick as stock.
ever heard of plastidip?

Have you tried that on a cover? I wonder how it'd come out, namely if it'd still stay flush against the camera, how it'd turn out even if you taped the speaker grill, how much thickness it'd add (too much to be used on a dock?), etc.
Sounds like a pet project when getting the battery case or just using a TPU and removing/replacing it would do.

[Q] Replacing the glass on this, is it too far gone? -opinions?

Hi guys, just looking at a phones glass and trying to decide whether it's too far gone to repair. I know it needs a new button also. What do you think?

Ouch.
Well anything is possible but depends on how much money are you willing to spend. Try finding a good deal on ebay for the entire front with digitizer, lcd and button like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...058?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337f67fb42

You don't think this can get done with just the glass and not the whole LCD replaced?

well anything is possible but from my prior experience with other phones, the adhesive holding the digitizer and lcd together is very strong. When trying to pull it apart it usually cracks the lcd...
So from now on I just usually buy the entire assembly.
The glass is not too hard to replace. I broke mine (not nearly as bad as yours). It took me about an hour to get the old glass off, clean it all up and install the new glass.
Make sure to keep the heat on (I just used a hair dryer) and slowly work your way around. After having a look at the photo I'm not sure the digitizer or buttons will work though. They are both attached by a very thin ribbon at the bottom of the phone, which if damaged won't work.
Holy crap it still works!

[Q] How to fix/replace a rubber gasket for the microUSB port (picture included)

Unexpected update! Someone was looking over my shoulder at school, whipped out his Z Ultra, and showed me his flap. The gasket is attached to the flap, not the inside. It needs to be glued or replaced.
This is a C6806 model. Behind the microUSB port, there used to be this little rubber gasket. From what I can tell, it should be on the inside. It appears that there's a slight tear partly though the thinnest part of the rubber, though it doesn't go all of the way through. It's about the size of a dental spacer elastic, if you're familiar with them. When I try to jam the part back inside, it bunches up. Without this rubber gasket, the port flap stays open and the phone is no longer sealed from water entry.
I contacted Sony about it (first time speaking with them). They said that I could send it off for warranty repair, but if they determine by their own set of standards that it was normal wear and tear, then I get charged a minimum of $25 (either if I opt for them not to repair it and send it back, or more than that for labour and parts). Since I'm not too pleased with that, I'm wondering if anyone knows what this part name/number is so that I can acquire it and try replacing it myself. Any suggestions on how to get it back in without bunching up? If nothing else, can someone with an Xperia Z Ultra post a photo of the same angle so I can see how/where the gasket should be sitting in there?
Thanks!
P.S.: Sorry about the dusty photo. I let it sit around while I was trying to decide what to do about it. I was told that instead of doing the repair, if I brought it into a Sony store, they'd be able to swap it out for something like $8, but there are no longer any Sony Stores in Canada. I'm going to Honolulu for a conference in a week, but Sony's website doesn't seem to have a service centre locator for the USA, so I couldn't see if they had a store there.
The following photo indicates where I think it is supposed to go, though it could be that it was actually affixed to the flap and simply became detached.
