Apps won't install - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I searched but I couldn't find an answer to why it won't install any app when the internal memory is under 500mb?
Thanks

Hi there, I think that has got something to do with memory needed for storing messages, call logs, cache, passwords and things like that mate. If you have an external memory card, then i would advice having any music and photos on there. Plus try clearing your browser cache, deleting any downloads you dont need anymore.
Hope this helped.

Download LUCKY PATCHER from the link below. install it. go to the options>>troubleshooting>>REMOVE FIXES AND BACKUPS. it will most probably solve the problem... Let me know the result...

Sorry buddy... I have no other option. Let me try to search as well... I will let you know as soon I will know it... Anyways... how much memory do you have left in internal sd card?...

I have around 410mb left.
It's not a big problem as I'm uploading to dropbox and plan to buy 32gb card next week but I wanted to know why is it like that and if there is a fix just in case .

Which ROM have you got?
You need about 1GB, because the apps are bigger, when they are unpacked (Installed) and they need to store their data somewhere, don't they
Try deleting some bloatware apps, or some apps you don't use and try dowloading again ^^

Is it true that Galaxy s3 now does not support installing apps to SD card?

As per title....
Yes. Internal memory got plenty of room to fit many apps. Unless of course if you install many high end games. But you can get the 32gb/64gb version if you so need to play high end games.

Argh drats. My telco here does not have the 64gb version. Is there a workaround to this problem?

The easiest solution is to buy a 16GB one and use that. There is hardly any chance you will use up all the space by installing apps.
If you have an SD card and root, you can install to that too.
If you root it, then you can use the method explained as below :

So only if i play heavy games then i would need it do i? How about gps apps like sygic?

Try link2sd app... available at play store... except user data.. apk file lib file dalvik cache files are moved to 2nd partition of your sdcard.. also you will be able to use these apps while sdcard connected to PC and if u flash custom roms u will have your apps as soon as you install link2sd app..

Please help with storage problems

Hey guys,
I'm having a weird thing happen with my internal storage on my phone.
I'm using stock XWLP7 firmware.
When I try and install an app it says I haven't got enough space, it tells me to delete 1.6gb (I'm trying to install a large Gameloft game)
Sure enough I look in settings-storage and I only have around 700mb available, but I should have ALOT more...... Where has it all gone?
I'm totally stumped and would be very great full for some help.
Here's a screen shot to explain my issue.
If I deduct the used memory from my total 11.49gb I should have 9.8gb spare! It tells me I only have 745mb available, does anyone know where it's gone? lol
Or why this happens?
Thank you guys!

Get app called sd maid and go through each section clearing stuff.
If you got cwm, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache, fix permissions and reboot.
Thats all i can offer, it may work!?
IRONY = XDA app, buggy and doesn't work properly!
Mod Edit - do not advocate warez
Thank you for your advice
I already have pro version if SD maid and regularly go through each section deleting stuff.
I also regularly wipe cache and dalvik cache. Probably do them both almost every other day!
Fix permissions whenever I install an app and I also zipalign all my apps.
So I don't really know what's going on..... It's really puzzling me.

The free storage displayed by the system usually only reflects the sdcards partition status, while the low space warning is probably talking about your /data/ partition.

[SOLVED] 2GB Apps partition is full?!

Hi guys, i just work up and i found the attached notification. I didnt even go to market for the past week iirc. For the past 3 days i am very sure i didnt. And i went to Setings -> Application i saw i was left with 14MB. It keeps jumping between 13 and 14MB free.
Anyone encounter this before? Can guide me where to start troubleshooting? Im gonna restart the phone first. But i hope to find out the root cause
EDIT: just tried and it is still persistent

I do surf the web but i do not download stuff often, including apps. Im on the stock jelly bean leak and philz kernel. I just cleared cache and dalvik from recovery but no help. My total apps size never crossed 1GB and when i came over to this rom i only restored what i needed only which i doubt it every crossed 600MB. I am on this ROM ever since it was released on xda and i have no issues until this morning which i find it odd.
I tried to uninstall an app but it Didnt help much

Read one of the many other "insufficient storage" threads for answers. No need for another topic simply to repeat same answers.
My ans is all found here.

But how do we know which paths and folders reside on the 2GB partition? Hopefully it doesnt come back again.

[Q] Basic s3 rom info.

hi guys
theres a few things that i need to know if somebody could be so kind to assist or point in the right direction.
i have my s3 international for the past month now. i had put cyanogenmod 10.1 and it had its issues yet my titanium back up and my sd card was working fine. now i got my s3 back yesterday with stock rom and i flashed it and put cwm then restored a backup of the old nightlies then i did an update with the new nightloies, problem is that now none of my images are there and titanium backup is giving me the elements failed when i try to restore missing apps. how do i go about restoring my images from a nandroid backup? or where is it? i like this rom but now i noticed that the battery drain lasst night was like 15%. as you can see im still a noob at this so i cant check logs etc cos i dont know where to look. i have attached screenshots that might help.
Images are either stored on your internal or external SD card, in the DCIM folder. If they aren't on your external SD then you have lost them, nandroid doesn't back up the internal SD unless you tell it to and service would have wiped the internal SD.
Ask in your ROM thread for specific help, but I'd suggest flashing a fresh version of the ROM without performing any restore - see how it runs for a few days before you add any apps.
If you aren't confident then best stick with stock, or an modded version of stock, for a while first.

thank you, very good advice. i will miss those apps for those few days tho. i think that if titanium back up will work i will get all my images etc back.
going to try your advice now and if i dont come right ill be back right here.
thanks again
Mate, if your images aren't on your internal or external sd card - they ain't there. No amount of titanium backup fiddling will restore your images.
Regarding your apps, play store will have a record of anything you have downloaded. Menu, my apps, slide left. Profit.

so you saying that if i ddi a nandroid backup and a full titanium backup and if i did a wipe then i will still lose all my images etc??
Mate, using a file browser, look in your DCIM folder on BOTH the internal and external SD cards.
If you can't find it, download a software called Recuva. It works like a charm. Sure, they'll be some corrupt images, but, most of them are there.

What's the best way to backup, kies air or plug in and use like usb ?
Do you have to let a Rom work its way into the phone per say before making judgements and installing another rom ?

[Q] can´t install and update apps

Hello i´m from germany so my english isn´t so good and i hope you understand my problem. Since a few days i can´t update apps because i become a error report which says no more space but i have 2 GB internal memory free?. 2 or 3 days later i can´t install new apps too. I have the stock rom 4.2.2 with root, TWRP and Hacker Kernel. I hope you can help me.. I also tried to install a custom rom but i don´t find a rom that is better then stock and at custom rom my wifi can´t be enabled.
Help...
Nobody have an idea?
Google Play is only supposed to prevent you from downloading apps when you have 200MB of internal storage or fewer. However, I've seen this same problem at other random numbers like 400MB. Unfortunately, I've never seen the problem as high as 1.4 GB.
Although you aren't supposed to have this problem, you can definitely try freeing up space and seeing if the problem persists. If you have 3GB of free internal space and you still cannot download apps, there is a problem with Play. If the problem goes away, I would recommend buying an SD card where you can keep most of your data, and you will still be able to update your apps.

In your screenshot, it looks like 4.7GB is being taken up by media. If that is your internal SD, try moving the media to your 64GB SD. See if updates work then.

The only way to solve the problem you are having would be to isolate it. If you clear up some memory and apps start updating, you know that your phone has a limit of 2GB. In that case, always keep over 2GB free and try to move more data to SD. (I still don't understand how Whatsapp takes so much memory) If apps don't update after you clear the space, you know that Google Play isn't working the way its supposed to, and should probably contact support on their end.
Sorry I wasn't of too much help for you. Good luck!
