Xperia active died - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello guys,
I have an Xperia active rooted with ICS (sony official) and it just died. I got a phone call and before I even answer it the phone crashed and was unresponsive. I removed the battery and from that point on it doesn't boot. I just get a vibration and then nothing. It needs to remove the batter again in order to shut down.
Some things that might help
1) No response or led light when plugged into PC or wall charger
2) Can get to Fastboot and Flashmode
3) I tried flashing again ICS and 2.3.4 but still nothing. The flash finishes OK but I the phone doesn't turn on.
4) When tried flashing with Wipe Data option enabled I always get the Abort Flashing error.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Yes it's unlocked. I tried your suggestion by installing this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398910 and then the official ICS image but still the same thing. It vibrates when turned on and stays there .

Could it be battery related? You cannot enter clockworkmod, when you have flashed for example rage or x-kernel?

If it was batter then it shouldn't turn on at least when plugged into the charger? Also once I hit power button and vibrates then it stays there, it doesn't shutdown. If I press the button again it does nothing until I remove and put back the battery. I believe this is an indication that it's not battery. Also the first time when crashed when I was pressing the power button the bottom buttons (return home and menu) were turning on (not anymore though since it seems that doesn't boot at all)
I tried booting to clockworkmod but no luck . Just to make sure, how do I do it in Xperia Active? If I remember correctly I have to press the volume down button several times until it gets into to he recovery mode, right?

Yes, you are right. Try to relock your bootloader.

How can I relock the bootloader? What if the solution is to have an unlocked bootloader? Can I unlock it again since the phone is not responsive now?
Sorry for two many questions. I started really worrying about losing the phone now .

I just noticed that for rage kernel I have to wait for the blue light to turn on and then press volume down. I do this but still nothing. I started suspecting that might be a screen problem. Can someone give me the sequence to restart phone or turn off from the recovery mode? If this work and it means it's my screen I guess.

Maybe it has something to do with bootloader. I bet it can be relocked, you just have to search a tutorial. I would try it, you have nothing to lose now.

You can't turn off from cwm, just pull battery. Maybe screen is dead, so background screen. You could try logcat to see what happens.
So the blue light appear, but screen doesn't come up? So it's related to the screen I think.
If you flash sony stock rom for your device you should be able to relock bootloader, just search in the forum for solutions...

OK thank you guys. I will try to relock the bootloader and see how it goes. BTW when I tried to use SUS I got a message that a modified image (or something) was detected. Is this due to the unlocked bootloader? If I lock it the SUS will also work?

It didn't die while I was experimenting with flash. It was working properly for a long time and just died after a phone call. That's the guide I used to root it and install ICS in the first place. That's of no use now since at step 3 the phone doesn't boot anymore. Blank screen.

Will be there any vibration when restarting? I am looking for a way to see if the phone works and it's just the screen the problem.

2 pages and the most simple solution has not been posted.
Get into recovery mode (press voluke down with phone switched off, then connect the USB cable), and then flash a stock FTF filr using flashtool
Sent from my ST17i using xda app-developers app

Hello dumraden,
I tried your suggestion but still nothing . When press volume down and connect USB cable the led lights green and I suppose I get into flash mode. Is this correct? I am asking because you mentioned recovery mode and I am not sure if it's the same thing.
Also the screen seems to be completely black! Like it doesn't light up at all, not even a light flick.

I also tried loading the rage kernel for 2.3.4 Android and then installing the stock 2.3.4 FTF but I get the following error:
09/019/2012 06:19:19 - INFO - (X10flash.java:230) - Flashing loader
09/019/2012 06:19:19 - DEBUG - (BundleEntry.java:34) - Streaming from file : .\firmwares\prepared\loader.sin

Any ideas? If I untick Wipe data it flashes just fine.

I tried the new Flashtool and didn't gave me this error (with Wipe user data ticked) but still the phone is dead.

I noticed some new symptoms on my phone.
1) When is turned on it doesn't just freeze, it stays with a black screen doing nothing and after several minutes (not always the same time) it turns off again (I call this turn on-off cycle)
2) Today after several flashes I let it rest and after a few turn on-off cycles it actually worked. It worked for couple of minutes and I was even able to make a test call to it and worked but after few minutes it got back to the previous state.
3) I noticed that this turn on-off cycle consumes a lot of battery. After symptom (2) when the phone turned on I noticed that had about 25% battery. 5-6 turn on-off cycles after that the battery was completely drained (led flashes orange when I press the power button).
4) Now the phone can be charged from the wall charger
The phone now has rage kernel for 2.3.4 Android, the official 2.3.4 android of Sony. Also I tried to relock it using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563840 and unbrick it using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553601
I wasn't able to verify if the bootloader was indeed relocked. How can I do this with the phone off? flashtool says "Bootloader: ROOTED"

[Q] bricked Xperia Go, trying to install CyanogenMod 9 from FreeXperia web-page

Hello, I have bricked Xperia Go, trying to install CyanogenMod from FreeXperia web-page, would appreciate some assistance.
First of all, my phone had unlocked bootloader and rooted GB (kernel 184).
I checked "Supported devices" page from FreeXperia project (sites.google.com/site/projectfreexperia) to learn that my Xperia Go is eligible for CyanogenMod 9 and downloaded FXP203 (FXP203-cm-9-20130118-UNOFFICIAL-zeus.zip). After sending "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as required by their instructions, I have a phone that doesn't start at all.
If I press Power+VolUp with USB cable plugged in, it with vibrate, LED turns blue for approx 5-8 seconds and becomes red after that. If I unplug the cable it stays red. That's it.
I would be deeply grateful if someone helps me get my phone into working condition.
You got the wrong file. Go = lotus (FXP203-cm-9-20130118-UNOFFICIAL-lotus.zip)
The changelog on the FreeXperia also says:
!!!! first flash stock 6.1.1.B.1.54 to update your modem FW for U,P,Sola,Go !!!
Sounds like you flashed the wrong kernel. You can download the lotus and flash the boot.img there.
Should be able to run CWM from there.
And the most wrong thing other than kernel is u flashed it over gb
First get the latest ics flashed then ur desired cm..

Dear all,
Thank you for your replies. Indeed, I did not check changelog, admit. My problem now is that I don't know how to flash lotus kernel - as I said, I can start the phone only with Power+VolUp then it vibrates, shows blue light for 5 seconds, which then turns into red.
Command fastboot flash boot boot.img gives "waiting for devices" message. Is there any way to solve this?

U need to force shutdown
With my xu
I just remove the battery to achieve this
Bt xgo has non removable battery I guess
If volume up plus power is not working
Let the battery discharge completely
Then charge it and try again
Or else
Try removing and reinserting battery if u can (google how can u open up xgo)
@sAtan - no cm10 yet for xgo

Vol up + power. Wait for 3 vibrates.
Then hold vol up, jam the USB cable in.
You will now be in fastboot.
After 3 vibrates, hold vol down to get into flashboot to flash stock if you prefer to do so.

Actually, I ran into one different trouble now :-\ When I took my phone today to try reviving it according to your advises and pressed Power, LED started blinking rapidly (which, I assumed, meant that I should charge it). I connected the charger (from electric plug) and indicators lighted red, but only for few minutes and then it turned off. I tried twice again, but with the same result - LED lights red and after 2-3 minutes turns off.
If I press "Power" or Power+VolUp or whatever, the phone wouldn't vibrate, turn on or whatsoever. Is there anything I can go with it?

[Q] Tablet Z half-bricked or bricked?

Hey all!
After successfully unlocking the bootloader, tried to flash rootedkernel thru adb but something went wrong
and the tablet became ly a paperweight with no lights screen or buttons working.
Let it idle for one night and then charged for a few hours.
Now when I pres power there are three led flashes.
Nothing else apparently happens. Can't get it to flash or fasittboot mode.
It is like this for the last 48 hours. I can only see three continuous red flashes.
When I put it on charge there is continuous red led light.
But now I want the battery to loose all power and to reflash. When connected to PC it is seen as generic USB devicee.
Any ideas? Would be greatful
Have you tried holding volume + and power button, you should see one white flash keep holding and you should see three more flashes. If that worked you may be able to get into flash mode.

Somehow, after numerous intents the tabnlet got into flash mode!!! So I've flashed this (original) kernel with flashtool:

which at the end gave the following error message:

12/026/2013 10:26:03 - ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MINOR";ERR_CODE="0017";ERR_DYNAMIC="0x80080012 ";
but immediately after that running Emma finally got the tablet back into working starte.
Thank you very much!

Can you possibly elaborate on what you have done here? My tablet is in much the same state as you described... How did you get into flash mode, how did you know once it was there, and what is "Emma"? I'd appreciate any clear directions you could offer!

Xperia U-not turning on, red LED stay 1 second only

Hi guys,
I am currently trying to repair my friend's ST25i Xperia U, he encountered random crash and the phone won't turn on. I have tried to charge the phone but no reaction from the phone itself. if I pressed the lock button it only turn on the red LED for a second and nothing happens. I think I am having a problem with the kernel that it won't let the battery charged.
I am familiar with flash tool, when I tried to flash the device will not get into either fast boot or flash mode. IF i connect the phone to PC via USB(holding down up/down for either fastboot or flashmode), it only turn the red LED for a second.
anyone can help? I am currently trying to only charge the battery via universal battery charger, hoping that it is charged and can enter fast boot or flash mode so i can flash the device.
my friend said that it was running android 2.3.6, having a problem and sent to repair center upgraded into 2.3.7, then this random crash happened. I want to flash it to ICS by the way. I had the stock rom ready to flash.
Is there any flashing method that does not require a battery?
sorry for the long post, I hope you guys can help me with flashing

well the universal chraging method did not work, and no one uses xperia U here. hard to find a battery. can you confirm if using battery from similar phone will work?
regarding the led--it only flashes once, and red. this happens when it is plugged into pc/charger.

Remove the battery out of the device and leave it for an hour without the battery and after that press and hold the power button for 60seconds (without the battery) after that insert the battery and try to enter flash mode "have the FLASHTOOL ready to flash a rom"
IF it doesn't work
Just as a last try you can TRY REPAIR using Sony Update Service(SUS) and if it doesn't work either you have to report the service center... they will help you and if it is still under warrenty you can get it done for free too...
battery drained
have you done anything that couldve drained the battery fully ? if so the solution is to continuously charge it ... it might take upto 16 hours or more happened to mine now fixed
did it woks ? after charging your mobile for 16 hours ?

1. Open flash tool (don't click anything)
2. Turn the phone off, power + volume up until you feel (1+) 3 vibreations.
3. Press the volume up key while connecting the USB cable, led should lit blue and connected in fastboot should be in the log.
4. Repeat 2, press volume down while connectiong the USB cable for flash mode, check flashtool log
If flash mode stays connected for about 45 seconds you can simply try to flash stock with flash tool.
If fastboot stays connected over 20 seconds you can flash custom stock based kernel and flash moonwalker again, or any other custom rom you have on the phone.
If none works, just leave it turned of, charging for one day then try again.
I've seen more than one report of people that recovered XP by disconnecting the battery, though it didn't work for others.

[Q] Booting Problems! [SOLVED]

For reasons unknown, I'm able to boot into flash mode and therefore restore my ROM.
Thanks for helping me though, random stranger!
So can anyone close this thread? It isn't needed anymore.
I recently flashed a new stock pure Lolipop ROM on my Xperia Z Ultra from a stock pure Kitkat ROM that I've been using for months now.
However, it is noteworthy that my device has been rooted and custom roms has been installed on this device for about a year now. So my device has its bootloader unlocked.
I followed all of the instructions I can
- Wipe the data and cache ( incl. dalvik )
- Flashing the ROM in question
- Flashing the su and GApps
- Wiping the cache ( again, just to make sure )
And here's where the problem started
When I started to boot my smartphone, it flashes red for a couple of times. At first instinct, I thought it was a battery depletion problem, and sure enough, it was! So I plugged in and noticed yet another problem; my phone started randomly turning on for a brief moment before shutting back down, presumably due to extremely low battery power. And it didn't even bother to wait for my Z Ultra to be charged to a reasonable level of power before attempting to power on. However, I tried using the power+up button fix, and it didn't work and then there's yet another kicker; Fastboot ( Blue LED ) Mode is no longer accessible on my phone. When I plug in while pressing down on my ZU, it does nothing and simply just charges ( presumably ).
I'm currently on my last legs of hope and doing the last resort: to wait for my smartphone to charge substantially enough for a long time.
Which is about 8-9 hours after this post is made.
TL;DR
- Device is currently rooted for a year now and has been installed with custom roms left and right.
- I followed the instructions to the T
- Phone not able to turn on
- When charging, phone attempts to turn itself on, regardless of power level
- Plausibly due to low battery level 15%-24% during flashing
- Fastboot Mode not possible presumably due to low power
- Now waiting it out for 9-8 hours to see if issue resolved
- Will update whether if method works or not
Please help! This is one of my most used smartphones.
Yeah, it might be the battery that's gone bellow the "zone". What I mean is when you deplete the battery completely to 0%, there's still more battery left, but the system shuts it down so not to damage the battery. It's a Li-ion thing. But once in awhile it does happen that it get completely empty, and you'll experience what you've done here. A dead device. It's not only Sony phones that experiences this, but from all OEMs.
Notes:
- So, keep it charging for 15-20 hours and see if it helps.
- You mentioned fastboot not working. Be sure to have fastboot installed on the computer. If it's not, it won't work.
- Blinking red LED also (usually) means there's been a kernel panic

I'll try to follow your advice on the extended charging thing.
Fastboot is definitely on my computer so ye
Kernel panic? What can I do to remedy that?

Just flash a different kernel. If that doesn't solve anything, then we'll know that it isn't a kernel panic.

We've got Fastboot and Flashmode. Fastboot is what you use when you want to flash some ROMs and kernels through a terminal (command line), while Flashmode is for flashing ROMs in Flashtool and Sony's PC Companion.
You can enter Fastboot by holding VOL UP while you connect your device to the computer. Remember to hold VOL UP until the LED above the screen turns blue. Once you've achieved that, the either flash/hotboot a kernel with recovery, like NUT's Dual Recovery, and then restore or flash a different ROM. If the device doesn't reboot by itself or do anything weird, then case closed. If it does do something weird, then I'm not sure what's going on.
Remember to have fastboot installed on your computer. Or else it won't work. You can easily install it by using this installer. If you don't know how to use fastboot through a command line, then use Flashtool or QuickIMG.
EDIT: JUST SCROLLED UP AND READ THAT YOU'VE SOLVED IT! JUST PRESS EDIT ON THE FIRST POST, AND ADD "SOLVED" IN FRONT OF THE TITLE, LIKE THIS: "[SOLVED] [Q] Booting Problems!"
