links not opening in desktop useragent - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running the excellent Toldo P7510 JellyBeanRom ICS v6 but I'm having problems with opening links in browsers using desktop useragent. For instance if I go to digitalspy I can't open ANY links by short clicking them. If I long click them and then select 'Open in a new tab' it opens fine. This is true for Dolphin and stock browsers.
However if I change the useragent to Android then it all works fine.
I also sometimes have a problem where the back button doesn't work as expected. Pressing it once refreshes the screen to the same page. If I press it many times in succession it will eventually go back a page (or more)
Anyone else experience these problems

Is nobody else having this problem? It's driving me bonkers!

I've hat the same errors. but two days ago I switched to this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877784
and till now I don't recognized this error. anymore. maybe it's an issue of the A1 Kernel Toldo uses in his v6 rom.

Thanks marco.michel, I tried the new kernel but it behaves the same for me. However I managed to fix the link problem by disabling javascript in the browser settings. Still have the intermittent 'back' button problem though.
Just realised that disabling javascript breaks a lot of web pages that use it to function properly so that's not an option.
Anyone else on ICS having this problem with links not opening? Can people try going to digitalspy and click a few links for me, would be interested to know if t's just my tab or a general problem.

[Q] Touchwiz Browser problem with clickable links.

I never had this with the stock browser but noticed it immediately after upgrading to Touchwiz KMB. It happens very often. I have to click on a link many times for it to actually load. Anybody else experiencing this problem? I'm using Starburst ROM.

I think the browser is slower to load a page than stock...also it crashes everytime when i click on a drop-down menu
It's not lagging or slow. Links just don't start loading and I have to click on them multiple times.
i dont experience this problem on any websites except Blackboard for school. I used to not be able to download anything with the stock browser from that website but with the touchwiz update I can by clicking slightly below the actual link but it still takes a couple of tries. If you use opera it allieviates the problem
I don't want to use Opera or any other 3rd-party browser. I don't know why I'm the only one to experience this (it seems). It's not a touchscreen problem since the link blinks showing that it's been clicked but just not loading. Guess I'll reflash Starbust, if that doesn't work, I'll just go back to stock 3.1.

[Q] Back button not working in Dolphin Tab

I just started using the Dolphin for Tab beta browser, and it's so much better than the stock browser. I do have one major issue with it though. Almost every single time I use it, the back button will not work. (I've tried not the one on the taskbar and in the browser itself.) At most, it might scroll up the page a bit.
Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.
I don't know. I don't have this problem on dolphin for pad. Have you tried rebooting or uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it?

I had the same thing. I think its a bug, similar to like when certain roms and kernels work on certain tabs and other dont. Its nothing too serious, but Im sure they are still trying to figure the browser out for all tabs
Having the same problem. I have to wail on it several times to get it to work. I think the only change I made was to install the LastPass plugin (since it was working, as far As I can remember). Rooted CWM TPT.

Browser not responding

I couldn't find a thread about this.
At times when I open a web page with lots of content (images) the page will be loaded just fine until it is almost done. Everything is fine and I can scroll the page. Then it will just freeze until I get the dialog "Browser not responding" asking if I want to close it. However, instantly when I choose "Wait" the browser becomes responsive again and finishes loading the page.
Lately this has been happening a lot more frequently. About every 5th time I load a big web site. Sometimes it happens even here, but it is quite rare.
I've tried this with other browsers and they behave almost exactly the same way, except they freeze for a shorter period of time and it never gets to the "App not responding" dialog. But they will still be frozen for multiple seconds during which I can't scroll the page.
During the freeze none of the Android buttons work but music playing in the background plays without any errors.
This has really started to irritate me so I wanted to know if others are experiencing this.
This far and away my biggest problem with the Prime. I really hope this gets fixed.
Same problem here.
I thought it was related to the common freeze/reboot issue addressed by the latest patches, but it is still occurring with patch .15 (just had one loading this thread).

If you prefer to use the stock browser, download ics browser + from market.
Same as stock but with more features. Works flawlessly on my prime.
My friend also have this problem. Also with the ics+ browser. It works flawlessly on chrome though, so maybe flash is the problem?

No, even if you block flash on the stock browser, this problem randomly happens ... it looks like a problem with Stock and ICS+ browser (well ICS+ uses pretty much the same code base I think), but doesn't happen in other browsers as far as I can tell.
So most probably it's a problem with the stock browser !
For me it happens even if I don't have Flash installed.
It happens with Dolphin browser as well. Haven't noticed it in Opera.
Chrome is a bit different. Occasionally when you scroll down while it is still loading you only see white until after some time it starts to fill the page again. I think it could be related because the duration is pretty much the same as with the freezing issue.
My biggest frustration also.. figured it was possibly related with all the reboot issues also but still happens regardless of what browser I try and I have tried all of them.. I hope this get fixed soon..
That was my biggest complaint about the Prime... Browsing was just not fun because of this. I switched to Dolphin and it's much better.

You are lucky.. Dolphin no better here and just switched to chrome to post this after Dolphin closed out afterward and happened on chrome.. Please Asus fix this.. main reason I have a tablet is to surf! It is very tiring
from my experience all the browsers (ICS, ICS+, Firefox, Dolphin, Boat, Opera) have flaws, even Chrome Beta which still doesn't recognize the Function keys on the Keyboard dock and somehow interprets a character return when you try to enter an uppercase "B" on the dock.
At this point, I rather Microsoft get involved and just put up an Internet Explorer for Android. All the other browser alternatives have flopped hard to deliver. It would be an ironic twist if a IE for Android just simply worked. (not to mention the Silverlight and Flash support )
yup
Ditto here. Biggest complaint about the prime for me, too... after WiFi and GPS.
I think I've had this happen to me on every browser I've tried. Dolphin, chrome, ics, boat...

I get the same thing. Figured it was just me.
My biggest annoyence by far, I've got this problem with all browsers on a regular base and it's a big problem that needs to be fixed quickly.
Same problem here even after latest update.
I also noticed this before. The strange thing is that with the same site, on different times, I sometimes do have this problem, and sometimes I don't.
I have same problem the browser freez and chrash and sometimes i get force close
Me too.
I have had the same problem on all the 4.0 builds. With stock, dolphin and chrome browser.
Did a factory reset after .15 update, no better.
The ics browser on my phone does not freeze. Seems its a prime thing. Anyone notice this behavior on any other ics devices?

Q for users of Dolphin HD on I717 ICS

When I updgraded to ICS, Dolphin HD behavior changed in several ways - all of them for the worse.
If these were global issues under ICS, I'm sure I could find info on them elsewhere.
I'd like to narrow down whether changing ROMs would resolve any of these problems, or whether it's something specific to my setup.
So, if you're a Dolphin HD user, can you reply with info on which ROM you're using and whether or not you've seen any of these problems? [Yes, I'd like to hear from people for whom Dolphin is working fine.]
1) In Gingerbread, long-pressing on an empty area of the screen loaded a menu (close tab, find on page, etc)
I can no longer get that menu on ICS
2) In Gingerbread, when I highlighted text and chose Share, Dolphin would send the URL and Page Title along with the selected text.
ICS only shares the selected text, without any contextual info.
3) Open Link in New Tab / Open Link in Background Tab only work intermittently under ICS. Frequently, no tab is created at all - foreground or background.
4) The Dolphin: Evernote Add-on (com.dolphin.browser.addons.evernote) creates notes with empty bodies. In Gingerbread, it copied the webpage into Evernote.
5) New tabs frequently display a label of aaaaaaa instead of the title or URL.
FWIW, I went from Stock Gingerbread (rooted) to the Kies update (which I then rooted).
Thanks for any info. Needless to say, this has been extremely frustrating.
Yea I also experience #3 pretty often, it is pretty frustrating. I'm using Team Objection ROM

I've used dolphin for 2 years, I'm currently on a Rom that is not on xda, it's a cm9 based Rom though.
Long pressing on a page only brings up the text selection, can't recall the menu you're referring to haven't been on gingerbread since the first leak.
New tab opens every time with the proper url displayed. Actually, open link in New tab, is my default behavior.
Don't use any add ons so Idk.
Don't use the share option, never have, o just copy the url and send that to whomever i wish to share with

Yeah...i mean who needs flash support anyway?
I doooooooooooooooo,
#1 and 2 are true on stock Motoblur ICS, so this is not a ROM issue.
#3 - 5 work fine for me.
#1 works on Dolphin Mini. #2 crashes Dolphin Mini
I, too, don't know why this issue isn't found elsewhere. I'll be raising a bug report with Dolphin, for whatever that's worth.

Browser problem

hey guys, I have a problem, every time I'm browsing the internet, whether it's using dolphin, opera, chrome, stock browser, etc, when I go to another app, (without closing the browser of course), and then I come back to the browser, it has to load the page again! This is annoying, in my computer I can do whatever I want and when I come back to the browser, all the content is still there already loaded, I want that in my phone, I'm using CM10 Rom,I don't know if its some settings thing, and I don't remember if it happened using Samsung's firmware, guess it didn't because I would've noticed, help please! I want my browsers to keep the loaded content while I'm in another app! Thanks in advance..

If this problem is there in cm10 too, then I think Google has messed something somewhere. The same problem was reported numerous times with Sammy roms and the conclusion pointed to the lack of free memory. But cm10 never runs out of memory as it uses lower memory footprint than samsung roms

Just this morning I wrote to the developers of SwipePad highlighting this problem with Chrome on my GN2. The same problem does not occur however when I use Boat Browser with SwipePad. The problem seems, in my case, to be with Chrome and SwipePad together. Chrome actually opens a new tab every time. Behind the new tab the page is already fully loaded! I should point out that if I use the android multitasking window -long press home on my GN2 it does not occur.
