[KITCHEN-MOD][HTC]Plug-ins and etc for dsixda's kitchen[UPDATED: 10/7/2012] - Android

So, I've been running this on a personal level for a while now, and figured it's time to share. . .
At any rate, I would like to thank:
dsixda for his Android Kitchen (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246)
Chainfire for SuperSU (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053)
eLucas for the script his extract-RUU script used on HTC development (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729898)
tommytomatoe for the Android utility (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167623.)
Pof for his nbimg package (found here. . . http://pof.eslack.org/2008/07/03/nbimg-htc-splash-screen-tool/)
I did nothing fancy here. I wrote a few plug-in scripts to adapt the actions. Everything seems to work fine and has been tested on other environments. . . although all linux-based.
The extract-RUU plug-in takes the full RUU.exe through "the ringer" and places the rom.zip in the original update folder that we are all used to. You'll need Wine to implement. . . sudo apt-get install wine
Adding SuperSU to your rom is done with a plug-in. I didn't separate the detection of Superuser and SuperSU when running option 10, though. The kitchen isn't mine to modify, so you'll have to pay attention to that part as you build.
The HTC Splash Screen creator plug-in will auto-detect the dimensions of your .bmp when running the script. This means you MUST know what they should be for your specific device!!!! I goofed up a few and they made my phone look possessed for that period of time. . . Do yourself a solid, and research it before attempting. Even better. . . report with the specs if not mentioned below!!!
EVO 4G LTE - 720 X 1280 | 24 bit
EVO 4G (OG) - 480 X 800 | 24 bit
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Choose the zip that corresponds to your current setup and download.
2. Unzip the folder
3a. stupid_kitchen version - Drag the folder named "kitchen" to the folder that contains Dsixda's original Android Kitchen
3b. stupid_android-utility version - Drag the folder named "android-utility" to the folder that contains tommytomatoe's original Android Utility
4. Play!!!
Beyond all that, please let me know what you think. . . pointers, etc. Otherwise, I hope everyone enjoys!
UPDATE - 10/7/2012
Reconfigured all mods as plug-ins
Cleaned up some scripting
Added a really lame "signature" the beginning of my plug-ins. . .
UPDATE - 9/29/2012

There's a reason I don't have PM's enabled, but you can either reach me via Twitter (as I mentioned in the Kitchen thread) or through the email address that is in every single kitchen script file -- in the top header that says not to distribute unauthorized copies without the author's permission.
If you want to add a plugin then let me know and I can gladly add it to the kitchen (or you can post the plugin as a separate thread), but please do not distribute alternate copies of my work.

Not a problem. Had no intent to offend as I stated. I sent a friend request... you hate pm's and I hate Twitter... go figure. I really don't know HOW I missed the email address in the scripts, though! Haha, I even went to your project homepage looking for that! Anyways, taking down now.

No worries, send me your plugin and/or include it in post #1, and I can add it to the kitchen. I don't mean to hijack this thread

Haha. well, it really was made for you to do so. I'm going to provide a link a little later of the plugin alone... which is what I should have done in the first place. My sincere apologies for that.
Anyways, stay tuned... I have another in the works, as well.

Updated the Kitchen-Mod to include a splash screen creator for HTC devices. It uses Pof's NBIMG package which can be found here. . . http://pof.eslack.org/2008/07/03/nbimg-htc-splash-screen-tool/
Let me know if there's anything that needs to be changed. . .

Going yo use this again the last one was good for me no bugs going to try the splash screen maker do you have to put in commands like for the screen radius or is it a list

Your .bmp needs to match exactly what your phone's splash screen should be.
On my phone now. Going to update the op later.

updated the OP with new files
All scripts are plug-ins, now. This is done to preserve the scripting in the kitchen. As an after-thought, this saves a lot of headache in the case of a kitchen update being so different that everything I've done has to be redone.
Enjoy!!!

can someone post or PM everything this does? I would like to know because Ive heard it is good, and might add it later.

Linked to my Android kitchen thread, thanks!

Wine Alternative
Hi There!
Just a quick one for you, Obviously some people might consider wine as a bit overkill for extracting ruu's, I don't know whether your aware of this little native linux utility https://github.com/kmdm/unruu which does the job nicely and is under 100K rather than a 28MB download,
Anyway Nice Work! :good: Get those kids Hooked!

[Q]How to change the sense version number in the about screen

Which apk, or lib, or whatever is this found in (Changed the sense version from 2.1.. to 3.0.. in rosie.apk and didnt fix the issue)? Its bugging the crap out of me as im working on my own pyramid/kingdom mashup rom for the desire hd/inspire 4g.
This is one of the items on my list of things I still need to address, and i'd rather not waste time on such a mundane thing as its apparently already been fixed in both the rcmix port and the new unity port.
I just need someone to steer me in the right direction.
As far as finding it in the code... i'll do that myself.
It is not found in a apk or lib file, but rather in an xml file. Let me search which.
Edit: After looking through xml files in the Sense 2.1 ROM I'm running I couldn't find it. I'll try again tomorrow once I got my Linux box on and I get some sleep.

Thanks mate, I havent found it in any of the xml's that are just lying about in the builds, I havent started using the kitchen yet myself (just setting it up now on ubuntu 11.04), so far its all been using apk manager, and just parsing code, and familiarizing myself with nitty gritty, parsing and editing code. I've already gotten a few gray hairs from frustration. lol
Have a look in strings.xml in Settings.apk
I don't have the phone or a ROM as a reference on me, but you should be able to work out how to set it by starting from strings.xml in Settings and working backwards, if you know what I mean.
If not, upload the file (Settings.apk) for me and I'll have a look for you.
will check it out, thnx

[Q] Need help making a boot animation for thunderbolt

I have tried a multitude of the other guides for other devices, but so far no luck. I have the pt1 and pt2 folders set up just need to know the config for thunderbolt.
Thanks
Garrett
Drop pt.1 pt.2 into "bootanimation.zip" Use Root Explorer to copy it to the system/media folder. Make sure its the right folder, check "system/customize/resources" if not media if you didn't know. Text file in zip. Works for my thunderbolt running Bamf Sense3.0 RC4.9 Running stargate bootanimation.
http://db.tt/boP69kE
Take wife, take car, don't touch my Thunderbolt...
I dropped a link to my bootanimation.zip file. Just add your pt.1 pt.2 to the zip and drop it in your "system/media" or "system/customize/resources" file, which ever one it is. Use Root Explorer, if you didn't know that is. Use at own risk. I don't know what you files are. Make nand backup always....
Take wife, take car, don't touch my Thunderbolt...
You need a .txt file to let the phone know what part to run when and at what fps but I can't remember the code, my suggestion is to find your stock ani and look inside it for this

http://www.mediafire.com/file/e6eajlp9paa7up0/bootanimation.zip
OK so I looked at your ani and this is what I suggest
First the only folders that should be in the zip is part 1, part 2, and the desc.txt
When I opened your zip these files were inside two other folders
Second change the PNG numbers to start at 1 (they currently start at 3
Third change the numbering to 3 digits instead of what you have now. Ie 001....etc
I can't guarantee this will fix it but its all I got. Lol

[Tool] Themer's helper

I created a basic tool for swapping icons(Windows/DOS only right now). Real easy to use. You can either double click the .bat file or run it command line. Either way it works for swapping icons in/out of com.htc.resources.apk, framework-res.apk, and SystemUI.apk.
Only gotcha is that it is case sensitive providing the APK name. I'd love to hear feedback if you give it a try. I'll revise this again in a bit after I get some feedback. If there's interest I'll build one that allows XML swaps as well.
Directions.
Copy the apk file to the directory with this script.
Run the script either from command line or windows
Follow the prompts
Just that easy

I don't know how the framework is laid out, but in theory it should work for any HTC phone that uses com.htc.resources. Only problem is that some icons may belong in different places. But that part is on the user anyway...

Privacy protection for your DX2!

What is it? Okay, well kenjesse put it best with this description : " Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.
As the app does not need to run constantly in the back ground it has virtually no impact on battery.
To check out the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19570074
On the next page of this thread I have posted the patch zip necessary to install the pdroid app on CM7 for DX2 only!!! I will make patch zips for other roms upon request but it can be done easily by following kenjesse's instructions below. After flashing the zip just download and install pdroid from the play store ......viola! Thanks for stopping by and happy flashing!
Looks like a pretty cool program. I've read other post that reference making changes like this, always wondered how. Wonder if this is one way, I'd assume there are other ways too.

Just got done installing this and it seems to be working great. I'm running CM7 with no special tweaks other than Moon Shadows wifi fix, following instructions from op here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056
this is what I did:
1. DL Pdroid Patcher zip to PC (Win7 in my case)
2. Extract Pdroid Patcher exe file and run
3. Browse to update-cm-7.2.0.-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip (cm7 ROM) and select.
4. Click "Patch" (program takes about 2 minutes to create required patch zip file as well as restore file if you choose to uninstall Pdroid later)
5. copy the 2 created zip files (PDroid-v1.31-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip & PDroid-RESTORE-update-cm-7.2.0-RCO-daytona-KANG-public-beta1.zip) to your external SD Card
6. Boot in our BSR BACKUP...BACKUP DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!
7. Flash the PDroid zip file
8. I did not wipe anything as it is not stated to do so in the OP install instruction... I did flash cm7 reRecovery before I rebooted just to be safe.
9. Reboot your phone, go to market and install Pdroid.
I tested by removing several permissions for my Fox News app which doing thru cm7 causes the app to break, using PDroid the app still worked. Not sure how to test beyond that.
I did notice that the reboot stayed on the cm7 animation for a while before the phone came back up as if a dalvik wipe had been done.
Hope this helps and if you break it it's your fault not mine and remember...BACKUP
You are awesome! Thank you very much for giving this attention, I can't wait to follow the steps you've listed when I get home. Thanks again

He probably should update the op title. Pdroid is an app that lets you modify permissions app by app with out breaking them. You also have the option of "spoofing" the permissions by sending randomly generate data rather than your phones actual sim, meid, phone #, etc.

Beautifully put. Hey, I would update the op title but it's not letting me from the mobile app. I will later when I'm on my laptop.
Hey, how did you spoof the permissions? Don't see that option within the settings. I just see symbols without descriptions (gear, bar graph, check, ect...)?
Just to add, I don't know if it's just in my head or not but I feel like my phone is moving way faster After changing all the permissions that I did.
........and last, I'm going to post the patch zip file for cm7 dx2 when I get home so all anyone needs to do is flash it and download pdroid from the market (Google play (stupid name)....whatever). Okay all done.

Settings options are:
Check = allow
Graph = random spoof
Gear= set the spoof value
Slashed Circle= block
And then there is a check box in the top right corner to enable notifications for just that app.

Okay, here are the zips. Just flash the first of the 2 zips in CM7 recovery and then install the Pdroid app. The second zip is just to restore. I'm not responsible if you break your phone...blah blah blah.....THIS IS ONLY FOR CM7DX2 (but if anyone wants I will make zips for any rom on dx2, just ask.)!

So please help me clarify what setting should I set the apps to? Also do I need to do them one at a time or can I do it by batch?
Okay, what I have been doing is blocking ALL permissions for any given app and then trying to run it. I then look for any error messages and go back and enable only those specific permissions to allow the app to function properly. You'll get a system once you use it a bit. .....and unfortunately there is no batch function. It is a very cool app though once you play with it and definitely enable the function where you can see it blocking and granting permissions. It's pretty cool!
........and someone please tell me how to change the title of this post please

Flashing The update zip makes the required changes for the app Pdroid that you get from the market to run properly with the cm7 ROM. IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE ON CM7. If you later uninstall Pdroid you flash the restore zip to remove the changes made by the update zip.
I believe it is done this way so the app can work without root permission and therefore doesn't have to run in the background....I could be wrong though and as with any mod you should go to the linked thread above and research it for yourself.

[MOD]HTCLinkifyDispatcher Fix

Running a Sense 3.6 or 4.0 ROM and tired of not having a choice what app to use?
Sick of Apple and their patent infringement lawsuits?
This script will revert the workaround HTC put in place to comply with the ITC's order to remove the patent infringement.
This script makes a backup of your current build.prop, and then EDITS IT IN PLACE.
What does this mean? It means you can flash THIS file on ANY ICS 3.6 or 4.0 ROM on this phone and it will not mess up any tweaks your specific ROM dev has put in place.
Why is this important? There are a number of build.props edited with this fix (and others)...some of them are from the stock ROM and some are from various other custom ROMs. Simply copying one over your current build.prop could lose you important optimizations, or custom fixes your dev has set up. By flashing this script you keep those customizations and still get the benefit of having your choices back.
Instructions:
To tell if this edit worked for you, check in settings. If the app associations menu option is gone, then it worked.
You will need to clear defaults for specific programs in order to have a choice pop up.
Example:
If you have selected Chrome for your default browser in app associations, you will need to go to menu/settings/apps/downloaded/Chrome/clear defaults.
The next time you tap a URL you will have a choice of which browser to use.

I am including two zip files. The first one will make the build.prop change to allow you to choose your own defaults.
The second one (HTCLinkify-revert.zip) will allow you to put your build.prop back to its default.
There are other build.prop edits out there and I will be creating ROM agnostic flashable zips for those as well.
Please let me know if there are any issues with this flash.
Good idea on packaging it this way it'll make it easy for those that havent made edits to a build.prop yet.
very good!

Right, that was my thought as well. Plus this way if a dev updates the ROM but doesn't add this fix in as a default, it's the easiest way to get it back.

Great job my good man! This is very useful and well thought out. I especially like the scripts you used to keep build.prop tweaks in place. Very well done.
Keep it up bro

Thanks. That was my whole point: I could see times where people would just copy over random build.prop that already had the tweak, over a ROM with a heavily edited build.prop and mess up everything their ROM Dev was trying to do...and then I thought of the poor devs trying to cope with figuring out random glitches due to build.prop changes and I thought...hey, let's make this easy for EVERYONE.
Now the users don't have to edit it themselves and the devs don't get stuck trying to figure random bugs out without knowing a user may have changed build.prop, or overwritten it.
Win for everyone.
so the mod will allow third party apps to update with facebook and twter?
like Handcent app is not longer updating contacts picture from those contact linked to fb and twter.

Nope. This mod allows you to choose what app you want to launch when clicking on say a URL. This is the functionality that Apple claimed infringed one of their patents.
It doesn't have anything to do with 3rd party apps, aside from allowing you to decide which one you want to launch, either each time, or by default.

I'm still kind of confused, so was the patent on the "Complete action using" dialog box? I thought that was present in all Androids for years now, and I thought iOS didn't even give you an option.

Yep, that's what it was about. And whether android has been using it forever or not isn't the point. Apple dusted off their patent book and found that it was infringing.
Stupid patent law system.
Thanks. This was bugging the hell out of me.
