Q: HDMI out with phone screen off? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know of any one working on a way to allow us to use "screen-mirroing" without actually having to have our phones screen on? I am running "Wet Dream" (2.3.5/6 varient of stock motoblur) and can't find anyway of achieving this goal. I am trying to use my Atrix as a TV addon unit due to it's broken digitizer, it works great I can handle SD content on XBMC for Android but I can't seem to find a way to disable the actual phone screen. Any body got any ideas?

Tape over with ducttape?

I doubt there is a reasonable solution to truly turning it off (or Moto would have done this in Webtop to save power).
But perhaps the backlight can be turned down to near 0?

[SOLVED] Unlock Screen stays on Indefinitely

Sometimes when putting my Touchpad into its slip case, I accidentally catch the unlock/wake button, but rather than turn off automatically it seems to stay on the unlock screen indefinately, by the time I realise there is hardly any battery left
I've installed Preware and few of the basic patches, but not a new kernel.
Anyone got any ideas?
I would just power it down before putting it in the case. That way the screen won't accidently come on.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
That subtracts from the instant on tablet experience though.. Does it happen to anyone else, is this by design or have I done something?
I have had it stay on as well. I think it has to do with the screen sensitivity patch being set too high.
Removed the patch and its now working. Many thanks.

Strange white dots on the screen, dead pixles?

Hello
Yesterday at night when I was playing "another world" I noticed 2 unusal dots. The first one just above the search button does indeed move everytime I rotate the phone. Everytime I rotate the phone to left the dot appears but when I rotate it to the right, it comes back again, WTF? Anyone have this kind of issue? I have attached the pictures. Anyway to fix it?
EDIT: It doesn't seem to be dead pixles, it something else but I dont know what it is...it's moving when I rotate the phone and AFAIK dead pixles does not move.
Something else strange I have noticed is that everytime I close an app by clicking the "home button" for example Angry birds, the sound is still there. I need to close via the task manager in order to make the sound disappear. Not the sound of the game but a strange sound is still left
EDIT2: Is it possible that is water? Because I installed invisible shield some day ago...maybe little water got under the screen and is "floating"?
It won't be "water" cause water under/on the screen would never "rotate" with screen, I guess it's some "background" process that to monitor some action, and a minimum GUI was "1 pixel". So it a white dot

Ah oke I was scared it was water. So there is no way to get rid of it? Its normal?
Did these dot only appear while you play this game or always on your display? Try to make a pure black(#000000) picture and view it as Full Screen mode, if it always appear, then it maybe some social apps or monitor like face recognition or gesture recognition services. If it only appear in these game, it maybe some social tools integrated in your games or cheating tools.
I guess it's posterior one, so just leave it.
If it's always exist, and you ARE a GEEK, then check every PROGRAMES on your Razr and figure out which/what perform this
If you're not a geek and it always exist, try to backup your system and data, then do a Factory Reset. Everythings goes well means it was some issues within some Apps you installed, If it still there, then it must been some issues in your integrated apps or some ROM issue
you can use es task manager's screen checker to check for dead pixels, it can also kill task, and manage startup tasks. I find it faster than razr's built in task manager.
I have no idea what that little white dot is, I also noticed it when I got my Razr back in November. On the bright side I can tell you that out of 4 Razrs I've had and my girlfriends 2 all 6 of them have had the white dot in that same spot. I don't think it's anything to be worried about. Also, neither me or my girlfriend use a screen protector that requires a solution to adhere so you can rule that out as well.

I just tried a pure black picture from the app "Dead pixel Detect and fix" and the white dote was still there. It is not just in games it's always there but most visible when there is a black background. I reall have no clue what program I should check, I thought it was watchdog tasker but I unistalled it and it's still there. I am using stock Rom 2.3.6 651.167.21.NonEFIGSretail.en.EU
Is there a way I can take backup when I am not rooted? I have not rooted the phone yet.

I'm beginning to think it's just an optical illusion brought on by glare and the capacitive buttons but who knows. It doesn't really bother me at all to be honest I just found it to be weird.

That means you have dead pixels. The other one at the corner of the screen is the shiny reflection from the phone design.
Bring it to a service center for an exchange, it looks like a big chunk of dead pixels at one spot.

Dont know if its worth exchange it and possible get one even worse..
I have emailed the store I bought it from, I think I now have had the phone in exactly 2 weeks. If its going in to repairs imo its not worth sending it. But if they exchange it then its ok. But the problem is I installed a Zagg shield on it...can I remove it and apply it on the new phone?

I don't know if you can take the screen protector off and swap it. I don't use one don't like them. Especially the wet install ones. Water and electric do not mix. Ever. Even in tiny amounts.
If it doesn't bother you just leave it. I'm just saying I wouldn't accept it. These devices are way too expensive to have any kind of defect however small.

I agree. I will definitely push the store to let them exchange it for me, even if it's one pixle a phone for 600$ should not have any damaged. About the screen protector **** it, if they exchange the phone for me I wont use one anymore.

Motion Activated Screen ON Apps?

right now im testing screen control, which is free in teh app store (on stock ICS)
it works but works when it wants to really. it might be for earlier android versions.
but im looking for a simple app that recognizes motion on my preferred sensitivity to turn the screen on.
im so tired of pressing the power button on these phones. it irritates the piss out of me now.
i just wanna pick my phone up and screen come on. i dont even care if the screen comes on when i dont want it to..
Try this one here
Or go with the paid version here
I havent tried either of them yet but they look promising.
I used this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=grandmaster.awesomeonoffultimate&hl=en
It worked really well but eventually the extra battery use wasn't worth it.
What if the folds from ur pockets turn the screen on? I see no point though in screen on with motion detection it's cool to show off but I think its just a of waste time. Thing you could tell us the plans for this?
Using phone as a media server and don't wish to get up to turn screen on so u just wave ur hand from a distance? That sounds pretty useful lol

[Q] Need Some Help with New Phone

Two days ago I received my One from T-Mobile. The auto sleeping/locking after inactivity feature is preventing me from using this device. Due to my severe physical disability (Spinal Muscular Atrophy), I am unable to push the power button to wake it up. I know this will drain the battery faster, but I have no other choice. Any suggestions to fix this are greatly appreciated.
Also, I cannot get Android Screencast to work like I did with my Sensation. The screen shows, but mouse/keyboard are nonfunctional.

Aside from maybe installing a custom rom, there is no way to force the screen awake.

Is it just the power button that causes you difficulty, or can you perhaps use one of the volume buttons? There may be apps that can change the functionality of the buttons and can be remapped to turn on the screen. Barring that, the screen turns on when power is applied to the USB, so maybe you could use that fact somehow.

The volume buttons aren't possible either. I'm not able to apply enough pressure to press down. Some days my mouse is even difficult. I am also not able to plug/unplug the USB. I appreciate the suggestions and welcome any input at all. If someone has specific questions about my exact limitations, to help figure out a solution, please private message me!
So you're looking for a way to never have your screen go off, is that right? And you can't press USB hard enough to insert? That means you'll be unable to charge a rapidly draining battery. That's not good. (Never sleep while plugged in seems like best option, to me)
If I can think of anything else, I'll come back.
Peace.

I'm thinking that you could have someone construct a large switch in the middle of the USB cable, which would turn the power on and off.

Well, a large toggle switch on the usb cable would allow you to disconnect and reconnect the power, which would cause the screen to come on.

This is a good idea, however, I am not able to toggle a switch. What I am envisioning that you are referring to is something like a lamp that has the on off switch in the power cord instead of on the fixture. Is this what you mean?
Is there no way to edit the root to prevent the screen from automatically turning off when the device is idle? Also, any ideas on getting Android Screencast to accept mouse and keyboard input when connected to the PC via USB? From what I have read it is something to do with Jellybean. Perhaps an alternative app?

[Q] Wave Control work when screen off/level only function enabled?

Has anyone used Wave Control? It's a cool program but would work much better for me if the feature to work only when lying flat actually worked with the screen OFF. When my screen is off and the application's feature to only work when lying flat enabled, the application doesn't work, i.e. the sensor isn't recognizing my hand. The phone's sensor recognizes my hand when the screen is on and flat mode enabled, however.
Thoughts?
Can someone install on their Verizon note 2 and let me know how it works on theirs as noted in first post? You can always uninstalled once done testing. .
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 4
I'm really surprised that as helpful as this site normally is, nobody will take 3 minutes to install and test the functionality of the Lie Flat Mode with both screen on and off on their phones. It would take <5 minutes at the most and think most folks would like this functionality...
I guess this promising app is a no-go for us Verizon users?
