Thinkin bout upgrading to s3.... - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

But from reading this forum I'm getting nervous. How's everyone's battery life? Is the overheating battery and 3-4 hour battery life after it over heats common? Screen staying on while charging normal??? I am coming from a droid inc2 and I think I'm ready for a different brand but I get really nervous lol. $200 is a lot of cash for me and I really don't want to regret spending it. Someone tell me not to buy it or everything will be fine lol. Any feedback back would be much appreciated.

I got mine about 3 weeks ago and haven't looked back. Even though I broke the screen and had to replace it.
Now down to the battery, I plug mine in at 11pm and plug it out at about 6:30 to 7:00am I use it all day for calls, email, twitter, Facebook, xda and lots of other things. Basically I'm on it all day and by the end of the day I have about 20-23% left.
On the odd occasion I will plug it in during the day for about an hour but really it's not needed.
Go for it, you won't regret getting it.

Remember that people in q&a are usually posting to report a problem that 99.9% of the time has a solution.....people don't generally post just to say .....yippieeee my phone is cool......for a competent user this phone is a joy, just respect it and do your reading and it will be for you too :thumbup:

Thanks for the replies. Prolly gonna go pick one up tonight at BB. Really the only other phone I was thinking of was the one x+ if it comes to Verizon, but im to impatient I want a new toy now lol

It's gigantic IMO to big for a phone, but that's just my 2 cents. Samsung seems to be selling them like hot cakes, so what do I know.

*rant*Evo lte why don't you have

After only owning this phone I hated it, I'm on it too much .I use over 1.3gb on 3g and I cant stop looking at YouTube videos, want to know more and more about it by Googling ... For real tho I'm happy with this phone and is the best decision I made since the OG evo... Gs3 is about to come out and even tho I don't have it I don't feel like I need too , a lot people is trying to return their phone cause another is coming out... I been there before and sometimes we don't think it thru. I'm happy with my phone ans some of us don't realize how great it is .no phone is perfect.

I'm trying to see how many people can actually realize we have an a amazing phone and deceploment is looking *slow*
But what they don't realize is that no phone is perfect nerve will, if you feel like the phone is not good enough then why get it in the first place , we all have 2 weeks to try it out and not fill up the xda board with complaints and complaints , I believe thus is a keeper for me

I'm going to have to agree with the OP. I have the same problem. I can't put the thing down. The screen is very nice and vibrant. I even put Fast Five on it the other day and have watched it about 3 times with the beautiful 720p screen and Beats audio using my Skullcandy 50/50s. There are people out there who are truly disappointed in the phone, and that can be their opinion. This should be the EVO 4G LTE lover's thread.
I too can't put the thing down. Screen is beautiful.
ok I agree totally. I mean I was glued to my old Epic but the screen on this thing is so sharp I actually started to read books on it.
my buddy is waiting for the gs3 but I think the screen on this phone is the top selling point.
I'm typing this while watching the video from Conan. Doesn't get much better for me. I agree 100%. We always want more, so the issue is accepting what we have and not getting upset at what we don't. I'm making a stand against my ego and accepting this device as what I need and adjusting to it. This thing is awesome as is and any shortcomings are way better than the razor I had just a few years ago. And the support from this community will only unlock more of its potential for us.

Something I want to add:
I am extremely anal about dead pixels. Not because I expect a display to be 'perfect' but because of my personal ocd issues. They bug the hell out of me. I had one on my Evo3D and it annoyed me EVERY time I turned it on.
On this phone I have a dead on at the top and then two stuck ones. I don't notice them. Unless I get half an inch away from the screen I don't even know they're there. That's how awesome the screen is. You simply can't tell pixels apart from your normal viewing distance. Hell I could probably have more dead pixels and not know it. You even might. The thing is, the only way you'll know is if you get extremely upclose, turn the brightness all the way up and search pixel by pixel.
That's the only "con" I have against this device and as you can see it isn't even a con. Hands down the best piece of hardware I've ever owned.

Yes serious. Radio in this is a joke. My og epic's data is way faster on 3g in the same areas as where I'm using this and sense really sucks. Non removable battery, you have to download programs just to access the internal storage what a joke. If your not tech savvy then yeah this phone is for you but a die hard Samsung is the only the way.

Yes, it has the sd card, and removable battery.
Sisters and their phones. I have 2 younger sisters and I refuse to waste my time rooting their phones. They both got mad at me. Within a month of them both upgrading, they have successfully destroyed a gsiii and one x.

My rezound is going wonky and in need of a new phone. Question is should I get the DNA or hold off and see if Verizon get the HTC one? If I get it, it will be as a 2nd line.. should I get it and also wait til Nov for my normal upgrade and get whatever new phone comes out near x-mas?

I don't believe they are getting the one. The DNA is the best your going to get at the moment. Unless you wait for the gs4 that comes next month. Verizon is also supposedly getting the Motorola x this June. But the DNA is $49 with a new contract right now.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
If you like custom Roms and kernels and such I would not recommend it. There's nothing wrong with the dev community but if you buy it now you won't be able to unlock etc unless you send the phone off.
I would wait for the gs4 personally.

The latest ota has not been cracked yet and as of now it looks very unlikely.
I'm currently just waiting to see what happens until the GS4 is released.

Do you really want to play the "maybe i'll wait just a few more months for this newer phone to come out" game?
I'm sure the GS4, and HTC One are great, but DNA seems just as impressive ( based on video reviews of all ). Once Verizon releases sense 5 for it being rooted won't make a difference.
Rezound to DNA was an amazing upgrade, so much more battery life, NO HICCUPS, and an even more gorgeous screen that can be on for 4-5 hours compared to 1 hour, lets not forget 24/7 4G without battery drain.

And yes I know new things come out all the time and its hard to keep up. But is it worth it to spend that kind of money on a phone that in a few months will be beaten by something else?? Is it worth the money at this time? Or wait for something better? .. I know near x-mas there will be another awesome phone, and I will have an upgrade then to get it.. but for now, is it worth the money to spend on the DNA when in a few months there will be something better????

DNA is a great device, I switched between this and my GS3 before I sold it and was extremely happy to come back to the DNA. Root would have been a deal breaker for me but since I unlocked and rooted before I took the OTA updates I was able to root again on the newest update. HTC has also always always (I don't care what anyone tells you) had better overall reception and not just with service and 4G but with WiFi Bluetooth too. My GS3 sucked when it came to getting strong signal and I doubt the GS4 will be any better with it, Samsung has always lacked in that department.

Just because the people who are working on it aren't posting public updates on what theyre doing doesn't mean it isn't being worked on, and by some pretty damn talented people might I add. Anythings possible. All it takes is for someone to get lucky and find an exploit that lets us get rid of write protection for any amount of time.

Miss my HTC One.

Hi, I bough the HTC one when it came one on T-Mobile, then after 4-5 days of use I decided to return. The reason was I had the Galaxy s3 before and thinking that the Galaxy s4 is much better watching online reviews. And I went and bought the international version of Galaxy s4 i9500 for $775 cash. Thinking its octocore and it has to be unbelievably fast. Now after using the GS4 I realized that HTC one is a much better and faster phone. Everything on the one is PREMIUM.
Now Im trying to get rid of the i9500 and get the HTC one back.

I will never buy a phone with non removal battery. Its stupidity. Here in europe you get 2 years for warranty and 6 months for battery. If you are unlucky after one year and battery is gone you have to pay to much for a replace battery or if you try to change it by yourself you loose warranty. Thats stupid in a phone of 700 or more euros. And so far i saw from comparison s4 is slightly better. Thats all because I say. Lol

Why be so childish over a phone? If you don't like the HTC one then why are you on this forum? No need to bash other phones just because you "think" yours is better. I have the HTC one and I love it because it's for me, my girlfriend has the gs4 because she's used to touchwiz and I've played with it and it's also a great phone. Stop all the bashing and just enjoy your phone. It's all about personal preference.

Because Android and iOS have polar opposite philosophies. Android offers users choice; and choice leads to freedom, ultimately entitlement. iOS says my way or highway. Capitalism vs. Communism.

Anyone thinking of going with the HTC One???

I'll be honest, I was hoping the one was going to be released sooner and prolly would have gotten it if it came out before the s4. Don't get me wring, I like my s4. But now that the one is coming in a couple of days I'm thinking about getting it.
My only two concerns are battery like and Verizon locking it down. I've read some reviews that the battery is terrible and some that its OK.
I'm a total crackflasher and if its locked down, that alone would prolly make me not get it.
Just wondering what you all think. I mean spec wise they're pretty similar.

I'm in the same boat as you. My upgrade was available and I was to impatient to wait for the one. Since getting the s4, I have really grown to like it and I like a lot of the features it brings to the table. I haven't actually had the one on my hands to play with it but I've watched a lot of reviews and ultimately I'm happy with the s4.

Yeah its a tough decision. I've played with it and like the design, but if you put a case on it, which I will, that becomes a moot point. I did like the new sense interface. Blinkfeed looks pretty cool as well as the zoe feature. Of course thise prolly destroy the battery too!!
Specs are fairly similar, and honestly a bit better for the s4. Like I said, the battery reviews concern me about the one and Verizon locking it down.
I wonder if a Dev edition would come out.

The HTC One is a great device, but the fact that once again Verizon is only offering a 32GB (at launch) tells me they are dragging out the 64GB later on or not at all and it really does benefit from the extra storage space. The Front Facing Speakers do kick ass.

Also I noticed on the the FCC spec sheet AWS LTE was not listed as a radio band. That was my reason for no longer waiting for HTC ONE and getting the Galaxy S4.

I have no issues with battery life, with very heavy use. I unplugged at 5am this morning, and after pretty heavy use all day I'm at 14% now. With light use (such as when I'm at school), unplugged at 5am will still be over 90% at 2:30.

I believe it is something Verizon plans on rolling out this year. I believe it could potentially double bandwidth speeds. I figured, few devices support it and for the HTC ONE to drop the ball on this is too bad. I really did want the HTC ONE over the S4. But when the FCC spec sheet came out and 32GB S4 released, made my decision easy.

*Estimating*
I'm don't think it gives you an exact time, hut it looks to be around 6-7 hours, while using battery intensive apps.

If I got close to that I'd jump to get one lol. 4.5 hours is about what I get now and that's awesome. I'm thinking its not 6-7 hours.

I actually came had an HTC device before, don't think I'll go back. I'm thinking Motorola will be my next choice, especially since they are owned by Google now. Motorola devices have never let me down.
