GS III gets a Rechargeable Battery Case Before One X/Evo LTE - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Well if this wasn't a smack in the face! This morning I wake up with an email on my phone proclaiming this is now shipping. So a phone that already has a removable battery, with plenty of extra and extended batteries available, is first to the market with a case/battery combo, before a phone that doesn't have a removable battery? Not to mention they also got first dibs on their new waterproof case but that is understandable considering how many Samsung sells. Well needless to say I instantly shot off an email asking if and when they were planning on releasing something for the phones that actually need their product. Waiting for response.

I also seen this and was surprised. I have an S3 and can't for the life of me think why anybody would buy this product. A spare battery is only a few bucks and they are so small and easy to carry. Why would anybody want one if you had the choice?
I can understand it being a popular product for something like the one x or the Iphone that don't have a removable battery but it seems like a stupid idea to me to make this for the S3. They must have a market for it though I suppose.

This is just a result of Samsung's crack marketing, they got this sort of cult following now and that means there's a potential market for useless crap, I wouldn't mind a rechargable case for my lte but on a device with a removable battery it's more of a gimmick to me

at least with a case you wont have to remove the battery to put in another one
a case is not gimmicky for a phone like that imo

While I admit its useful, many of these device families use similar batteries. I loved that I could just toss my evo battery into my 3d and and keep going without having to spend money on an accessory that caters specifically to one device model. When I have upgraded the case will be useless in regards to the new phone, Unless the design is the same which is not very likely

My battery is the best I ever had on a smartphone..
No need for ugly aftermarket batteries or ugly cases with battery that make my beautiful EVO fugly!
I'm good!

Were being left in the dust..... This phone deserves as much attention as anyone else

it's not like we can't replace the battery on the 4g lte, you just have to remove some screws but luckily the phone is able to hold itself together without those screws
I currently carry a spare battery around with me like i did with the 3vo and it works great

Not surprised. right after the GS3 came out Trident had all the colors available for the Kraken and iirc the other cases they were planning to offer for that phone. The Evo LTE came out a few months before that and a few months AFTER they made the case for GS3, the ones for the Evo LTE started rolling out.
I can understand the Evo LTE not getting much love because only Sprint has it and its a different form factor than the HOX, but I'm a bit disappointed that the HOX didn't have a battery case by now. I don't actually need one myself as the battery life is sufficient to me but it would be great to have options.

You guys are acting like a bunch of EMO highschoolers. OMG why does the world hate us?
Seriously..... the S3 is a blockbuster phone. Yes, that attracts people to make accessories for it. Who would have thought that people looking to sell things want to have a large market for their products?
In the end... so what? If you can't get a full days charge out of this battery, you are doing something wrong.

Niche phone. Get used to it.

Well the sgs3 is the same phone in terms of body for the entire globe so naturally companies will jump to make accessories for the sgs3. They would make more profit on accessories for the sgs3 than the one x/s/v/evo 4g lte...

Or I could just carry around my charger and plug it in when the battery gets low....guess you don't get the point of not wanting to carry around a extra battery or charger or battery bank. If I already put my phone in a bulky case for protection, why not also get the added benefit of extra juice, all in one item.

Super cheap battery & external charger

I've ordered 2 of these (2 batteries & 2 external chargers). I can't believe how cheap they are and the seller claims they are compatible with the HTC Hero (Sprint). He also appears to have fairly great feedback.
I'll let you know how they work out when they arrive.

Yep, they work. I now have 2 HTC Heros, each with 3 batteries & 2 wall chargers. They're slim enough to fit one or even two in my wallet without too much extra bulk.
So glad I ditched that POS iPhone.
it looks good! but i am very concern about the quality as you know that battery always explode nowadays!
thanks for posting the link, I'm also going try the battery out and see if they would blow lol
I've got them two weeks ago, using them since. One of them have in wallet (haven't used this one yet) and the other one is in the phone - original is back in the box.
They're ok, little bit weaker than original, but for this price. One thought - I had to use the pile to get them into the phone, they were a 1mm too long
Weaker than the originals? They should be better lol.
And you guys are buying batteries for that cheap and really arent worried about them either a)exploding or b) overheating and melting or melting internal components in the phone .. ?? The quality cant be that great

I agree that HTC has very good design quality, but keep in mind that the premium build design comes with a cost. Heavy feeling device that not everybody finds comforting to hold and what feels like slight overheating because of the metals used in the design. Every device heats up with use, but because of HTC's choice of materials you feel it more than other devices such as Samsung etc.
With that being said, I do wish Samsung would step up a little bit more as far as design is concerned. Maybe using 95%
plastic with a few aluminum pieces to add a little more character. The Nexus S might be Samsung's worst looking device IMO but I loved it because of how light and easy it was to hold for long periods of time.

I actually did all the research etc too like everyone else, I bought the Amaze on the first day, 2 days ago I returned it and got the SGS2 (blasphemy) and yesterday returned it to get an Amaze again... end of story
SGS was nice, some cool software features, but HTC sense just well makes sense (does everything and minimal need if any for 3rd party widgets or any real need for a 3rd party launcher). Camera compared to the Amaze's camera was sh!t. Kies Air was cool though wish HTC did something like that. battery life was fantastic on the SGS2 though. The Amaze feels just soo much better in hand...
edit: dialer/etc on SGS2 looks generic compared to the polish of all the HTC software.

I understand your point, but I keep/collect phones as a hobby--nary once have I kept a cheap Sammy device. I'd take heavy and solid over plastic and cheap. I bet Sammy only spends $40/phone to manufacture (if even that).
*Keep in mind, that is US adjusted price, not eastern-labor prices.

I need an oven glove to use my Samsung Epic Touch, the phone gets hot to the point that I can smell the heat. This happens sporadically but especially when viewing videos.
I got some hands on the with SGSII last night. My wife's friend bought one from Sprint yesterday. It was a quick phone. I am on my first Android device and since I have the Amaze all I really know is Sense. I found it easy to use and customize but it just felt cheap to me. She loved the fact it was light. For me though it felt like a good firm grip would crack something. I am sure it wouldn't but it just felt fragile. Performance wise it was about like the Amaze. I say total toss up / opinion between the two. I love the Amaze it gets my vote.
Oh and I have had no heat issues as all with my Amaze. My iPhone got warmer...
I had a Samsung Vibrant and hated the GPS on that phone. The SGS2 felt like a Vibrant on steroids. Touchwiz is also kinda boring. The HTC Amaze is awesome! Great build quality and Sense UI is beautiful. Amaze also has higher resolution. Go with the Amaze.

For me battery is important..can you tell me the difference you felt? I don't believe I will be able to go for the SGS2...it is just too wide for me and very difficult to fit it in the pocket..but the battery on the Amaze needs 3rd party softwares to arrive at the end of the day.
I always have Bluetooth on, WiFi or 4g, and sync 2 emails every 15min, Twitter update every 30min.
With normal use for me- txt, phone calls, email, checking twitter, random use of netflix, and checking xda.. I usually jump on a charger in about
6-7hrs at 40-50% maybe. Sgs2 will just about almost double that length of time... Right now I'm at 45% after 6hrs.....

?? - The Galaxy SII for T-Mobile is a dual core clocked at 1.5 gHz.
You know what is really lame? I went to the T-mobile store and since they redesigned the place with laminate flooring and lots of space so it looks more chic they also removed every single working phone available. There was nothing but cases and accessories hanging on the walls and the only two "dummy" phones for the SGS2 and Amaze were hanging out near the entrance. There was literally no other phones, and definitely no real ones besides shells of phones. The T-mobile version of the SGS2 is much better than the ATT SGS2 and Infuse because the black is completely different with a much nicer material and is actually ergonmic since it isn't flat with a sudden hump, but instead tapers with the hump and has some thickness/ergonomics. I could not really tell if the Amaze was a premium handset or not because I could barely hold it with the giant black chastity belt. The black plastic felt nice, but I could barely tell if was metal. Since it was a dummy phone the weight was also all wrong. Well I'll be playing crapsunless I can find a way to get to the Best Buy out of town.
I went with the Amaze simply because I got burnt so bad with the vibrant. Samsung never addressed the faulty GPS and the the all plastic frame just feels cheap. I also used both at the T-mobile store and they are both very nice but the amaze is just elegant. Go with the amaze you won't be disappointed!

[Q] would you recommend this phone to me?

hi guys im coming from a droid 3 and i want a bigger screen but costs no more than $300 and a great dev community. is it worth getting a thunderbolt off of ebay for $300. i also want 4g and miui. thanks.
You can get one on ebay for $200 or less in very good condition,so yeah its a good deal for $200

Ok thanks i think ill get one end of febuary. Another question, how does the screen compare to others specifically brightness and colors?
It's a TFT display which is standard nowadays. S-LCD and IPS are better but I have no complaints. Also the pixel density isn't bleeding edge but that matters a lot less unless we're talking about pentile amoled (see: droid razr, YUCK).
The phone itself is a great device. It's big and it's heavy but the 4g standby is unmatched and the dev community, though now slow, has an enormous catalog of good software. So if you're renewing a contract I'd say get something newer but if you're buying outright online get a thunderbolt.
Not sure of your location but here in Houston there are several Thunderbolts listed on Craigslist ranging between $150 and $175.

If you can't afford a Nexus and want an LTE phone with lots of development done already (compared to the charge, bionic, etc), then yes, I would get it.
It's the only now cheaper LTE phone out there that will have Cyanogen.
Request serial numbers (ESN/MEID) before buying any phone on craigslist. Go to a Verizon store and all them to check if it's reported lost or stolen. You can get seriously ripped off on craigslist if you're not careful.

+1 to that. Lots of shady cmda phones out there and if it's cheap, be even more skeptical.
The battery life sucks. The only real "fixes" are:
1. Get the LongLife battery and make a large heavy phone even
larger/heavier.
2. Root the device and install a better ROM/Kernel (Voids warranty).
3. Keep a spare battery around you at all times and swap them when
the first battery dies. (You'll spend $40+ for one worth the time. They
come with a back-plate that accommodates the larger battery, but
if you get a cheap one, the plate usually will not fit 100% correctly,
thereby disabling the antenna built into the back-plate, killing your
reception)
4. Turn off half the features that make this phone worth buying.
5. Buy a different phone.
I also hope you're not big on updates. At release, the Bolt
was Verizon's Flagship phone and it came with Gingerbread 2.3.5.
ICS is allegedly coming for T-Bolt in mid to late 2012, but considering
HTC/Verizon's track record on releasing updates for T-Bolts, I don't
suggest holding your breath.
Its by no means the worst phone on the market, but it has some issues.
Were I buying a phone, I would likely pick a different one.
As always, YMMV.
Good Luck!

IIRC, the bolt came with Froyo at launch, not GB. I'm positive mine did, so it was updated to GB already. When it comes to updates, HTC is best among the big boys.
I got two Rezound batteries from Verizon for about $20 each. They were selling all 4G batteries half off, and they may still be.
That said, yes, the battery life is atrocious. There is no sure fix for that.
Sent from my BAMF'd Bolt.
Why not just get the rezound?
I personally like the phone. I came over from the Incredible which I loved but we just got 4G in my area and needed to have it.
Battery life is horrible except when I bought mine on craigslist for $100 (already rooted) it came with an extended battery as well as the stock battery. I think I got a steal.
Now I can wait to use my upgrade on "the next big thing" or at least till the Nexus is a little cheaper.

As you say, your mileage may vary..
But you over looked another option to the battery issue... The LTE batteries are still 1/2 off. That makes the stock Rezound 1620mah battery $19.99 (got one for my wife Tuesday night). That battery makes a difference compared to the stock TB 1400mah battery, and it fits under the stock covers! (so no unsightly bulge).
Also, the External "battery only charger" was being sold for like $3.99 and lower (you need to provide your own "wall charger" for it). So you can leave the 1620 battery in the phone, and charge the stock 1400 as a "spare" outside the phone in case you ever need to carry a "spare" with you.
I have only 3 issues with my TB....
1. Bluetooth Phone book Access Profile (BT PBAP) doesn't work with my car's built in system when using the stock Verizon ROMs. (It DOES work with the leaked Open Mobile firmware.)
2. GPS can still be a little slow at times to lock onto my location more accurately than "within 10 meters" in Google maps. (sometimes its about 5 seconds to be "accurate within 3m", other times it can take up to 15 or 20 seconds, I haven't tried any of the fixes in the forums for this).
3. 3G/4G hand offs can still be slow, and during that transition, I loose data connection. Unlike the Bionic, when the 3G/4G hand off is done, data comes back automatically on the TB. I think hand offs were better/quicker with the MR2 radio, or one of the leaked radios before 2.11.605.9 got pushed out. But its still quicker/better than when I got my TB back in March.
I would recommend this phone and I am selling mine as I can't afford the data plan anymore. If you want to pm me we can discuss it further.

Rumor is clear wire and Lte are joining forces, seems logical sense sprint owns %50 of the shares and there going Lte as well, will c..
I wouldn't not recommend it. You can certainly do worse. If you tend to type one-handed or own pants with smaller pockets, it's not for you.
On the other hand, the screen isn't bad, the 4G screams, the kick stand is more useful than you'd think, and it feels very solidly built.
For $200, it's a great deal off-contract on Craigslist, but if you're due for an upgrade you can do better.

HTC Thunderbolt - Used - 30 Day Return Policy - $140
I ordered my thunderbolt from cowboom and my galaxy tab as well. Both came in really great condition. The Galaxy Tab was flawless; including retail packaging and all accessories.
The only "problem" with the Thunderbolt was that the top of the battery cover (where you use your nail....or a penny it seems in my case...) where you take it off is a bit dinged up. Otherwise, it functions perfectly and it allows you a 30 day window to decide if you like it or not.
They also have a Droid Charge, X2, and LG Revolution for around the same price on their.

Former AT&T One X owners compare it with EVO 4g lte

Hi,
If any of you guys have owned the HTC One X by AT&T and now have the EVO 4G LTE, can you compare the battery life differences? Screen differences? General impressions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Had the one x for a week. At&t had the worst coverage I've ever experienced ..but when I was in a 4g area, it was fast.
Just got the EVO so I can't compare yet.
One x likes. The screen wrapped around the sides a touch, it felt really sleek and smooth. I liked the slight curve but wasn't crazy about the white color.
EVO likes. Kickstand! I like the metal finish around the side. The screen is still amazing. Being on Sprint just feels better.
Overall I think I like the look and feel of the one x just a little better, but I feel more comfortable with the EVO..prolly because it feels so much like the previous evos

How is the battery life between the two phones?
Are they comparable? I'm really bummed b/c most of the 'pro' reviews indicate that the battery life on the EVO 4G LTE is poor despite the bigger battery. I have no idea why this is the case.
Like many, many people, I want to leave the iphone. However, let's be honest...people stay with the iphone because the absolute corest of the core features on the iphone are still the best on the market.

I wish that the makers would just get the core features right (I realize that it's not that easy). I always have to worry about battery life when I am considering a new android phone. Sorry, I just got mad when I read that the EVO 4g lte packs a huge battery but doesn't seem to benefit from it. Tired of being disappointed yet again because it's the same old story--great hardware specs, disappointing real life performance due to a lack of attention to details.

These phones are for a different user type than the iPhone. These phones have freedom and customization. That does not mean they are not stable. I don't believe screen brilliance, resolution, or touch inputs are arguments anymore. This phone has it all and then some.
I regularly get 12-16 hours of battery life everyday! With fairly heavy usage. This phone really has it all. Definitely a jump up from the OG Evo!

Didn't buy any.
I Cases definitely wouldn't be able to tho. The phones are shaped different not to mention the kickstand.
I get excellent battery life with the EVO 4G LTE. I charged my phone overnight and it lasted 14 hours yesterday with about an hour or two of actual usage on the phone (browsing internet, Google Talk, Google +, Gmail). The battery level at the end of the day was still around 75%, so I could have not charged it if I wanted to and still would have a charge today most likely.
On my Evo LTE I got 16 hours with 23% left, moderate/heavy usage (photos, video of town's Memorial Day Parade, family pics, sending said stuff to server via WiFi, some web surfing, used TeleNav for about 45min, and a bunch of phonecalls). On the OG Evo to pull that off I had to be using the Seidio 3600 battery, and I was lucky to get 12 hours on a charge.

Got to play with a ONE XL last night

It was amazing. Screen size was just right. 45% battery was 1:45 screen time on LTE. Comparatively, the rezound sucks. It is so thin and light. I can't believe how good it is. Makes me hate the Rezound now.

really? i played with my friends htc one s on tmobile and it made me love the rezound even more. My sense 4.0 was just as smooth as his stock sense 4.0. Verizon 4G keeps 4G inside for me all the time and his dropped to 2G and was slow. Everything it can do rezound can do with exception of shoot video and take photo at same time but everything else is the same. Rezound was just as fast too. And the weight difference is a little bit but you cant remove your battery on the one s so that isnt a good thing for me. I was very impressed by rezound vs a brand new device
We have bright screens.

The One X is way better than the One S. It made me hate my Rezound lol. That great battery life on LTE with the screen on was amazing. Their screen was so much more vibrant to be honest.

I can see the screen difference. Its a better screen. But I love being able to swap batteries. Until htc makes a device like the razr maxx, just can't have nonremovable.
Though, come this winter if verizon gets a killer wp8 device with lte, might jump back over there.
It's not that much better than the rezound to make me want to switch. I'm fine with the rezound for now.

I've played with whichever One that AT&T has (my mother got it and has no idea how to use it) and I think it's way too thin and I didn't like how you can't change the battery and how the flash works. If the XL has a battery and a removable flash like the rezound, it might be better. It was too big and thin for me, I thought id break it easily.
Lighter does not equal better. I like weight because it means better build quality (in most cases.). Not having a changeable battery is another downside.

4 hours of screen on time with the internal battery is fine lol.

No offense, but in 6 months, there will just be another phone that blows the doors off the One X. 6 months ago, that best phone was arguably the Rezound. The point is, there will always be another better device right around the corner, waiting for your envy to get the better of you so it can steal your money. I am not saying I don't agree with your assessment of that device... it is an extremely nice phone. But, it did not in any way make me think my Rezound sucks.
For now, rezound is ok, not the best but still great.
After I flashed your ConRom V4, everything works well.
The only bad thing on rezound for me is the thickness and heavy.
Other than that, rezound is still best for me.
GS3 looks awesome, sometimes wanna switch to it, but screen on rezound is better than GS3's pentile.
I might switch my rezound to other phone when next generation of S4 comes out.
Oh, I might say Thank you Con for your flawless rom, since I cannot leave reply on dev section

I agree completely but it just shows how terrible the Rezounds battery life really is.

I like the heft of the Rezound too, just some psychological trick though. The physicist in me just screamed out that more mass means more energy...the phone gets jolted all the harder during a drop because of it.
Extra weight is generally bad and is just stored potential to mess your tech up, I wish mainstream reviews would explain that scientific point when it comes to devices: weight is a detriment to overall build quality, not a benefit at all.
That said, the Rezound is a tank lol, I've dropped without cases and it survived many a time. Screen cracked only on a direct fall, pancake style.

dude you know what's hilarious? i had two girls in yesterday who were like, "wah i hate the razr because it's so thin and small..my friend has one, she drops it all the time and it breaks every time."
so a million things wrong with that, but then i'm like, she really thinks that because it's THINNER means it'll break easier? are people dumb? lol
but yeah, the rezound always had a nice feel in the hand, hence why i bought it over the razr
SLCD2 make diff i guess
our screen drink energy a lot
