Yes it is and stupid Motorola has locked bootloaders good I hate that so much
Sent using XDA premium app

I hope to be boarding that train soon as well. Will never own a Motorola phone again.

i'll be heading to the S3 soon as well! no moto support and locked bootloaders = unhappy camper.

I've kind of shifted into "a phone is a phone" mode. No compelling differentiation anymore for me with all the tech advances - I don't want a larger screen and don't need a faster CPU or more memory. But having said that, I'll probably upgrade next year to either Samsung or HTC. Moto's "lock it down hard for corporate IT departments" doesn't work for me as a consumer.

You can take my photon when you pry it from my cold dead hands... Or when the note 2 drops.

Same here. Done with Motorola

If you are ditching the Photon then send me a PM, I'd be willing to buy your old one. This phone is a beast and I expect it will be running Jelly Bean by Christmas. =)
IMO, this is still the best phone Sprint has to offer.

Are you kidding
You cannot expect such a huge update from Motorola ...
I've been using Moto Phones since last 10 years...
They'll never make their customers happy ... you'll have to give up...
The day when Motorola will understand that how to provide proper support to the customers, i bet no other company will survive in the market. Not even iphone... but all these companies know Motorola guys have no common sense ...

Official jellybean will not come before christmas as official ICS isnt even scheduled till Q4. My thoughts are that if they do not release official ics for the atrix, they will 'not' release it for the photon. If they do release it, however, then yes we will have fully working jb by christmas. But not officially from moto.
"Say Apple one more MoPho'n time..."

Well they did promise most Android Motorola phones released in 2011 will be getting Jellybean before the end of the year and if not will be receiving a 100 dollors towards an upgrade, to Motorola of course. They are Google owned now, it's not entirely impossible ...

Of course, you'd expect phones to start to phase out after year or so. Let's be honest, the photon was never as popular as the OG evo or the incredible.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus....get it or wait for ICS on the MoPho

Just wondering should I get the Galaxy Nexus which is really nice especially running ICS but I really love my MoPho ...what do you guys think? Should I wait for ICS on my MoPho or get the GN ?
Phone looks awesome but it wont drop until november. And its probably a vzw exclusive for the time being. They didnt comment much on carriers at the release.

This. And as far as trying to build out the brand, it was a poor move to put this into the hands of Verizon the same day the Razr was announced. It sucks because of the fact that data is moving into the cloud, access $80 per 5 piece. I'll never go back to Verizon and the MoPho is a device I can stick with for awhile because the communications and GPS functioning on the device is great.

Ummm, probably because he wants some opinions and thoughts to help with his decision!!
im hearing a lot of speculation of sprint getting it mid q1 next year (just in time to announce their first LTE sites) at which point i will be selling my gf's soul to get one
(dont worry she doesnt actually have a soul.. )
I love everything about the Galaxy Nexus and am really tempted to upgrade. But two things threw me off:
- exclusive to Verizon. What the heck. What happened to the promise to be open and not stick to one carrier? That was just last year when they released the Nexus S!
- Likely to be CDMA only. As a student from Hong Kong that goes back every half year, I need my GSM connectivity on my Photon.
Now that Google bought Motorola, I have high hopes that they will bring ICS to Photon.

the international version is gsm and carrier unlocked, just the same as the previous nexus. if you are on tmo or att that version will work fine
verizon exclusive is only until sprint gets lte set up. sprint just bought a CRAPLOAD of iphones and is subsidzing them at a horrible cost to themselves. once they have the capital and lte networks up i expect to see a sprint version
*cries* Yeah and I wish they hadn't done so now they are so cash strapped it'll be a while before we see improvements around here? :/

I was asking everyone for their opinions just to get some idea of what I should do...I would wait for sprint to get the device because I used to work for Verizon and they are full of **** over there but I am not sure about the devices as a whole...things have been moving really slow over here and I give much thanks and props to the guys that have been developing over here but I am used to flashing at will without all of the problems with 4g wifi etc...I get bored easily so I am already looking for my next device but when I can flash at will it keeps my current device fresh and new for me and I don't get bored with it as fast....if I can get ICS in the next couple of Weeks thru a leak our something I will be good until upgrade time I guess
Motorola is probably working on it but a release of ics won't be until march April maybe.. It won't come overnight but in time...

You're comparing the average iPhone users to the most informed Android users. The average Android user has never even heard of Ice Cream Sandwich.
I do think it is ridiculous that the RAZR was advertised as "ICS upgradeable," and six months later there is still no official date set for release. I don't understand how Motorola even got away with advertising the phone that way. They should have said "Gingerbread, with the possibility that before your contract is up in two years there may be an update to ICS."
I've got ICS. It's amazing.
but I'm stuck like a fat kid in a tight hallway.

And to all who are claiming they'll sell their phones, I'll give the same response I did over in the Acer Iconia A500 section... WHY would you buy a phone you were unhappy with? Did you really buy it to just sit there in agony until ICS was released? Suffer horribly under Gingerbread until the promise of a new OS became reality? Really?

I plan on getting a new phone in about 2 weeks also and the Q is not even a thought. I don't really like Samsung but I'll be getting the S3.
I recommend you stay with the Photon and not get a new one. My reasons are selfish though, because I don't want you to leave us as a dev!
Honestly though, my girlfriend has the S3 and it's amazing. I don't like how fragile it feels in comparison to the Photon, but I watched her drop it on concrete yesterday and it surprised me. It landed in the top left corner and the screen didn't shatter. It just has a couple dings and scrapes on the sides.

IMO, get the S3:
1- As far as I know is the fastest phone out there
2- Samsung has added some nice software features
3- It's about to get official JB
4- The development community is growing up day by day
5- You will support Samsung in some way after the crappy outcome of the Samsung vs Apple trial D:
Thanks for all your work spleef..we've really enjoyed having you as one of our amazing devs!

the note 2 will face the same changes the sgs3 did, there is no current quad core chipsets that support LTE, the newest and greatest one to do so is the MSM8960 aka the qualcomm snapdragon S4 tahts inside the one x lineup, sgs3 lineup, and many many other phones this year
Come to the light.
S3 so far has been a great phone.

Samsung's radios are garbage. I had the Epic, have since given it to my ex-wife, and after a year, the single sucked, on all fronts. the cell signal sucked, the wifi signal sucked, and even the bluetooth was flakey. The Photon (and I got mine used, so it's probably a year old now) is 10 times better in those respects. The only thing the Sammy has that bests Moto is the Super AMOLED screen.

Goodbye Sprint and Photon

I'm getting close to saying goodbye to Sprint and sadly my Photon. Going to be making the jump to Big Red here soon, probably to a Galaxy S3. Price points just finally got the best of me. Huge thanks to Joker Bill and the rest of the devs, as well as everyone who has even remotely contributed to how far the Photon has come with the lack of support from Moto. That all being said, anyone have any personal preference or thoughts for android devices on Verizon? Far as I can see its basically the S3 or go home.. i want something new and fresh, with backing here on XDA, and please don't ever mention the word Motorola. NOT going to happen, no more Moto for me.
New and fresh you say? How about the N4? That's what I am going to switch to.

I thought about those but not due for upgrade until 6 months after their release. If the new Motorola/Google phone is released later.
If not, wait a while longer for next year releases.

Motorola is screwed. They have such a bad reputation for customers besides Verizon customers. The biggest mistake that Motorola has made in the past few years was focus too much on making Verizon exclusive phones and ignored the other 3 carriers. I simply dont trust Motorola to do anything right unless they stop focusing on Verizon so much.
The Photon Q 4G LTE should have received Jelly Bean by now and there is no end in sight on when that will be available. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Motorola suddenly updated their webpage to say that the Photon Q 4G LTE phone will remain on Ice Cream Sandwich. Motorola would need to prove to me in the next 3 years that they provide constant Android updates in a timely manner as in beating out Samsung to the punch on new Android releases and actually deliver on those promises instead of just making empty promises and cancelling them at the end.

Motorola will never gain my trust again after what they did to the Atrix/Photon. Even the LG 2X users got a better deal.
I'm digging this HTC One X+ though. It does everything right.
I'm not even concerned over the One or GS4 since everything is already perfect.

Motorola has dropped the bomb on us all. Though Google now owns Motorola mobility which is their phone division. HTC is good, Samsung has done better recently also. Since the new Motorola phone bought through Google is unlocked and everything when they decide to do it. Is supposed to be almost complete stock.
I am waiting to see what Google Motorola has in store.

I got my wife the Photon Q and I too am disappointed that it does not yet have Jellybean. My photon contract isn't up yet, and I want my new device to be as solid hardware wise as the Photon is. so I will keep waiting and hoping that Motorola gets their act together.

It appears that everyone got their punches in @ Motorola, thus this thread is closed
