[Q] Can I get some help changing a boot animation? - HTC EVO 3D

I'm running Chubbz-Gruesome's Sense 4.1, It's a lovely ROM and the boot animation is cool because it was clearly build from scratch, But there are much better one's that I'd love to be running on my daily driver.
I've done the file explorer and it failed and made my phone spaz out and I had to reflash the rom, that sucked...
I really want to change it. It's the only thing bothering me with the rom.
Just checked a suggested threah, should I have to rename it to the same thing after I put it in?

Solved.
ALRIGHT! Figured it out, It has to be named the same thing as the original on your rom.

Good to know that you resolved it.
Have you tried the 3D Boot Animation? It's pretty cool.

I've ran it from Paranoid android and another one, I think MIUI and it is awesome, Once I found out how to do it i SWEAR I've changed it to 15 different one's I've upzipped my entire "ROM list" which is a real folder on my C drive haha. I have around 30 roms I keep them all. For things like this.
I have a few more questions, I'm trying to find a downanimation
I wanna take an bootanimation and rename is to down and see if it'll work... Think it will?? Does anyone have any education in this area? Or maybe editing a bootanimation to make it shorter and turning it into a downanimation, I wanna take the one from "Jelly-Belly" it's the nexus thing, which is awesome, and use it as my down. Hope it'll work.
NEXT QUESTION, The rom I'm running had a .mp3 in the folder with the bootanimation, It was some transformery sound, I deleted it haha, BUT! Can I find a sound snippet of something I want, Name it the same thing, and then reboot and enjoy my awesome booy animation along with my awesome sound!!! Please tell me I can!!!

Success With the sound, Coolest phone boot EVER!! haha, Now if I only had a downanimation, Mine is just a black screen for about 5 seconds.
Can I go even further to put sound on my downanimation once I get there? I wouldn't know what to name it is the only problem there if it is doable.

Here is an idea, instead of renaming the files every time, I just put all the files where I want them.
There should be a file called default.xml in the /system/customize/CID/ directory. Open this with a text editor and you can find the sections for boot animation and shutdown animation. Here you can just insert the names and locations of the files you want to launch for bootup or shutdown.
Hope this helps.

So you're talking about this portion of the xml right?
<BootAnimation animation="/data/local/bootanimation.zip" audio="/data/local/htc_boot.mp3" />
</BootConfiguration>
<ShutdownConfiguration>
<ShutdownAnimation image_png="/system/customize/resource/hTC_downanimation.zip" image="" fps="10" />
So theoreticly I can add audio="/data/local/htc_boot_2.mp3"/> between downanimation.zip" and image ""fps="10"/>
And if can I change the downanimations name to simply "downanimation.zip" and then put a custom there named simply "downanimation.zip" would that work? or does it need to be hTC_downanimation?

[Request] Dialer Themes

Hi,
i don't like the standard dialer theme. Can someone make new ones ? Or port some over for the defy ? Or tell me how to do that ?
thanks
i donĀ“t know how to make or port it.
But i found dialer2 in the market.
Test it. it looks nice
thanks for dialer2, looks nice enough for now. But if you make a call you still see the original dialer

I can hook u up, what are you looking for exactly?
a dial pad that looks black, and not so glossy. like the minimal matte one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726912
tried to metamorph contacts.apk for dialer, but the defy has no contacts.apk
I have the Gingerstock theme from JB3 installed. Something in yellow would be cool so that matches the theme.
Is your phone rooted? If so, can you pull a copy of your dialer for me so I can edit?
Use root explorer, go to /system/app. Grab blurdialer.apk, long hold and copy. move copy yo sd card and attach here
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
sounds great, here it is. It's from my system. I'm using the orange rom
3.4.2_131-003_Deblur_Sign if that is helpful

Hey sorry, got busy at work... I'll grab it now and work on it, stay tuned for post. I'll try to get it as best as possible, but I ddi find while themeing mine, you cannot change the actual numbers only the back grounds. Stupid blur!
I'm going in blind, so not sure exactly how this looks or what managed to change. So do as I say and check it out, whatever you want fixed I'll redo it... Try it out though.
-Grab the apk from the attachment
-Put BlurDialer.apk on your SD card
-Using Root Explorer, Move this apk to /system
-Once in /System, long hold the apk, and hit permissions. Check boxes should look like this:
Read Write Execute
X
X
So essentially an upside down L.
- Once permissions have been changed, long hold the apk and paste in /System/app , hit yes to overwrite.
- Backout to home screen and reboot.
Let phone completely load up, then go into your dialer and see the changes.
Please report back with what needs to be fixed or what color arrangement you'd like different.
Otherwise enjoy!
Yeah ! thank you ! looks great ! Now it much better integrates in the theme.
I took screenshots with an app. The SDK for 2.2 won't install. It says that i have to install Java SDK, what i already did
So how you did it ? Is there a way to get inside the apk ? As you can see in screenshot 5 there is already red when i pressed the button. Can this changed also to yellow ? I ask because this "red" goes to the whole system. It is in the browser when he loads a site, it's there when i changed the volume and so on. I would like to edit more so that the system has one theme
When there is no way to theme the dialer buttons, is it possible to install the original contacts.apk ? I asked this in another thread too.
Don't forget the Thanks button!
Try this one, I made some more edits, need to see if it is the correct one for the button push. I don't believe there is a way to install the contacts.apk.
To theme the file you need to get into the apk, remove the res folder, theme in the drawable-hdpi and ten put the pieces back together. You can google for files to do so. I dont 't mind helping you..
I wonder how the yellpw in the status bar would look
Anyways, try this and see what differences there is.
Think I found a way to theme that even more. Give me a minute and i'll repost
For Honeycomb Theme
Here you go, this one should look even better.
Congo,
How does it look?
looks great ! thanks.have no time at the moment. Take some screenshot tomorrow
Good deal, look forward to checking it out
I get the sdk to run
Here are two screenshots
This there a Tutorial anywhere, what files i have to edit to get the red in yellow ?
Which apk i have to extract, and is there always a png ? or must i edit a xml file ?

It depends on exactly what you are trying to do... The main ones will be blurdialer, blurres and framewrok-res, but you have to be very careful with what you are doing. There are .9.pngs in these fiales that need to be decompiled and patched.... It's a lot if work at first until you get the hang of it. There is a full theme guid here on xda on the main board, under hacking then themes. If it sounds excruciating, just tell me exactly what you want and I am happy to do it.

BIOS Boot Animation

Found this somewhere on xda, can't remember who made it, but it works for our phone. I slowed down the frame rate so it's not instantly over.
1. Download attached.
2. I use root explorer to change /system permissions. However you want to do it is fine.
3. Go to command prompt.
4. Type:
adb push c:\wherever you saved this file to\BIOS.zip /system/customize/resources/bootanimation.zip
5. Reboot phone. Enjoy.
I know it says "HTC Desire." I'm too lazy to go in and fix all the pngs. If anyone else would like to take the time to do that, go for it. I will not ask for any credit. If you want to change the framerate, open desc.txt and edit the third number to whatever you want. I set it to "3" cuz that's what works best on my phone.
Sweet I may give it a try. slightly related what I would like to see is an animation of the Android guy dressed in a Samuri Worrier outfit taking out a Samuri sword and slicing an apple in half at an angle. Sadly I know nothing about creating animation .

I made a step by step how-to for boot animations, it is one page back.
Also, this thread should probably be merged with it.
You're right. Can a mod move it for me? Sorry.
I tried to update this, but all I get is a black screen. Anyone wanna give it go? LOL
Oh I've been using the BIOS bootanimation no problem for a couple weeks.
Attached is the one I'm using. It's designed for the EVO Shift
It's from the same thread. The guy added the Shift's BIOS animation, and that's when I picked it up.
Extract it to get the bootanimation.zip that's inside. Run the adb commands that OP posted in this thread and voila. Easy as that.

[THEME] [REQ] Google Voice Dark

Anyone have a Dark themed Google Voice? That would go with FunkenEclipse?
Anyone know how to theme this and up for the challenge?
** UPDATE **
Here is a working DarkGrey/Green themed version of GoogleVoice (0.4.2.32) if anyone wants it.
*Thanks to xkape*

** Just put on SD card, boot into recovery, install zip and reboot **

Okay, So I've been trying everything I can think of, have done alot of reading. Really could use some help here guys. If anyone can give me some pointers I would greatly appreciate it.
I DLed the Google Voice from the Market, put on my computer, unzipped it with 7zip.
Took the res folder (drawable-hdpi), and replaced all the .png files with updated green/black themed ones from that above post.
This is where I get lost. I try to rezip the package, tried it with every kind of compression.
Everytime I go to install it on my phone, it tells me.....
Parse error
There is a problem parsing the package.
Anyone got some pointers?
OK buddy, 1st off, I am assuming by dark voice, you mean black background with white text. If that assumption is true, theres a lot more work to be done than editing images.
However, if you are in fact just trying to change images and are familiar with 7zip, the process is pretty easy. Especially since you already edited your images.
Lets do it this way, since your progression will yield the right results...
grab your completely stock voice that you have.. open it (NOT UNZIP) it with 7zip... find your way to the proper folder(s) and move your edited images into.. yes, while still zipped. Once thats done, close 7zip. it will ask you about updating the archive.. say yes... you're done.
And if you are in fact looking for the black backgrounds with white text.. grab my BNB theme and pull the Voice out if it. Its inverted.

Yeah, Dark themed Google Voice, like in the 1st post. The green one.
I havent thought about the TXT color... crap im not going to be able to read it after i update the PNGs......
One of your themes has a themed Google Voice? I might have to try that.....
Thanks for your help sir.
K, So I ended up pulling your Voice.apk from the BnB theme (which looks awesome btw... dunno how I missed that one)
I like it, but its just black and white. So I opened it with 7zip, go to res/drawable-hdpi and replace the file "widget_inbox_background.9.png"
That is the background for the widget.... only thing I care about..
I let it update the archive and save.
Copy the apk to my SD card and attempt to install it.
Everything looks great it appears to be installing then it gets to the end and says "Application not installed" done
I cannot get past this part..... am i doing something wrong?
bobhilton.... what color do you want it to be? Im willing to bet I can find the color you are looking for.
I mean the whole app, not just that background image. I can make that right in 5 minutes for you.

Really? wow that would rock. I'm just starting to learn this stuff. I've done so much reading and feel like i've came so far. but I'm finding out how much a pain in the arse these .9png files are....
The theme I'm looking for is the Dark greyish/ green one. Its in my first post of this thread. There is a screen shot here

I like those colors.... not a fan of the font but i dont really care. I've tried everything. I found that .9png background widget image but I cannot insert it into your BnB theme
I would love if you could insert it if its not a big deal, you make it sound easy. I'm going on about 4 days of reading and about 10 different programs..... I must be missing something.....
Thanks for you help man.....

Yes, I did try flashing them with an update.zip it went with no errors but did not work. But I dont really know if I did it right..... this is a huge learning process for me.... If you can get these to work.... please tell me how.... and it better not take you 5 mins lol
Bob
ok I am downloading it now.. let me see what I can do.

Awesome man! Geeez that was fast..... mind giving me a few quick pointers on how you did it?..... You must've used cheat codes or a game genie
Actually, I think you may have just been trying to install it wrong..lol I decompiled it thinking I was going to need to fix some 9pngs but the log said they were all ok. So I just stuck it in an update.zip and installed it..lol
I attached mine if you want to try it.
Wow, I don't get it....
It worked flawlessly.... looks perfect.... you rock man.....
So if you don't mind.... just help me understand this a little....
I went through your flashable zip (Voice.zip) and looked at everything.... It just pushed the apk (Voice.apk) to ssytem/app..... right?
K, so, the Voice.apk that is in your updatezip... system/app/voice.apk
how did you get this to work?
Is this your original inverted voice.apk? and then you just replaced the drawable-hdpi complete folder? or just the updated pngs? and thats it? Thats like the first thing i tried.... for like HOURS....
I just went through the apk.... looks like you just overwrote the pngs and 9pngs with the new gray/green ones.... man... you didnt have to mess with any xmls did you?
That just seems way to easy... I tried that like 10 times
Anyhow... thank you so much for your help man!
If the above is true, shouldn't I be able to do this same process with the new updated googlevoice from the market? and just update the pngs?
Don't know if I want to try it yet, but im really curious where I went wrong so it might be a good challenge...
I think I may of had a bad update.zip... I will try yours next with themed facebook
Theres an new GVoice? I guess I need to get to it.
For this, All I did was take Voice out of the BNB theme and opened it with 7zip. (NOT UNZIP)... then I opened (again, not unzip) you hdpi folder. I highlighted all the images and moved them all at once into the BNB hdpi folder. I then closed 7zip and yes to updating the archive. I stuck Voice.apk into a update.zip template and put it on the SD Card. I rebooted into recovery and installed the zip.
Ive never tried just sticking something in the system folder and hiting install. Not sure that would work.
Maybe just putting the apk in there, making sure the permissions are correct and then just rebooting would seem more like the solid option to me. I mean, technically, if its in your system folder it is installed.

after android_audio.mp3 try adding audiostart="part0"
So it would look something like this:
<BootAnimation animation="/system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip" audio="/system/customize/resource/android_audio.mp3" audiostart="part0" />
That's the only thing different between your default.xml file and mine, except you named your boot animation 'bootanimation.zip' and I kept mine as 'TMOUS_bootanimation.zip'. I doubt the file name is causing the issue though.
See if adding audiostart fixes your problem first. If that doesn't work, try renaming to TMOUS_bootanimation. If that still doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas.
Also, I'm done with making boot animations for a while. Sorry bro. However, I can send you info on how to make your own if you're interested. Just PM me.
For anyone else having the same issue, adding audiostart fixed the problem.
See previous post.

[Q] Custom Boot Animation

How do you change the boot animation for the G3? I tried the standard way of replacing the bootanimation.zip file in system/media, then changing the permissions, but it doesn't seem to be working. When I reboot the system, there is only a black screen while booting. Also, does anyone have a backup of the original boot animation? I forgot to make a backup while playing around with it.
I have had that some problem before also I just kept trying others until one worked. As far as the stock one I just renamed mine, I try not to delete that stuff. If no one helps you out I can get you a link when I get home tonight.

Well i tried multiple edits of the desc file and it seems to be the pictures themselves
they're 480x800, i swear i remember being able to use lower resolution images for a bootanimation and it would still work but i think im mistaken
so request a 1440x2560 version
i have a batch file somewhere to automatically resize a list of images but i feel like it would stretch the images and make them look horrible

Darn. Thanks for trying!
Was doing it manually but too much work, now I just use Boot Animations app.. Much quicker
So not sure if this has been figured out or not but I was playing around with this last night. I attempted to use the Red Helix boot animation from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002893
I pulled the boot .zip file out of the flashable zip and downloaded it to my phone and moved it over with Root Explorer, changing the permissions to match the original file (which I saved and appended with .bak). Upon boot however, only the repeating portion plays.
As you all know the stock boot animation is four different sets of files, two for the Quick Circle case and two for the full screen. Each is the loading animation (plays once) and then the waiting animation (repeating until the home screen is ready). In the new boot animation I tried it's just a full screen loading and a full screen waiting animation in two folders. However as I stated above only the repeating portion plays for both the loading and waiting periods (I can tell when it switches as the screen flashes black in between). I tried matching the folder structure in my zip file to the stock animation (four folders and associated config file) but that resulted in the phone staying on the LG screen until the home screen was ready. I can't figure out how to get the actual loading portion of the animation to play. I don't mind just the repeating portion playing (it's a red Android mascot with a white/red light going in a circle underneath and looks pretty cool) but I'd still like to see the full animation.
Any ideas? Might it be related to the desired frame rate (45 vice stock 30)?

I don't mind just the repeating portion playing (it's a red Android mascot with a white/red light going in a circle underneath and looks pretty cool) but I'd still like to see the full animation.
Any ideas? Might it be related to the desired frame rate (45 vice stock 30)?

Bump! I've tried changing the desc file for the boot animation I'm using from say p 1 0 part0 to p 2 0 part0 for a maybe lucky fix, but no dice. I'd also really like to know what's going on with this.
I know it's an old thread, but I have an old school BIOS boot animation that does this too, only the repeating part of the animation shows up. I don't use the circle case and the option is switched off in the Display menu. Did you ever get a fix for this? Thanks.
