[Q] touchscreen digitizer /virtual keyboard alternative - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi my digitizer/touchscreen has deadspots can only type p and L on with keyboard even though i managed to still root and install cyanogen mod 7 but the trackball seems to be the only thing that will let me select anything and i dont want to spend the money on a new touchscreen for it or digitizer and go through that headache on this outdated phone so was just wondering if you guys knew of a virtual keyboard app that would utilize the trackball feature of the htc droid eris and let me use it to select that letters to type there by getting a quick fix for the prob besides having to sink money into it for a bluetooth keyboard or digitizer anyway I did an internet search and am extremely busy with work and dont have the time to play needle in a haystack search for my answer so if you guys can help it would very much be appreciated .. thanks in advance I know you guys are probably just as busy as i am lol...

Touchscreen with dead spots
I'm also looking to use my trackball to dial numbers and type on virtual keyboard!!!!
One of the problems I have just solved is drag to unlock!! This is impossible with broken screen. So I found the application AntiLock that stops this screen coming up.
If you find a solution for the touchscreen for htc (mine is htc desire) then please email me.
Thanks
Alan

palmone wireless universal keyboard with wizard?

Hi, I have an O2 XDA Mini S, and just received a Palmone Universal Wireless Keyboard from a friend. I was wondering if anyone had success using the two together? I tried the PPC keyboard driver from the palmone website, but haven't been able to get the two to talk to each other. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!
judging by the lack of responses, I guess the answer is no? Too bad, the keyboard seems pretty handy, although the Wizard doesn't sit in the craddle thingy that well. But it seems useful for taking notes and not lugging my laptop around.
Anyone? This would really come in handy!!!! PLEASE.
So try this drivers:

Hi,
Just want to let u know that the Palmone Universal Keyboard do work with my SX66 (HTC Blueangle). I am using the driver from palmone website. You got to make sure your BEAM function under SETTING->Connections is turned on. AND the IR port on your PPC must be in line with the IR port on the keyboard.
Everything work fine except that my PPC will go into sleep after the preset sleep time in the SETTING even when I am typing. Somehow, the IR activity didn't reset the system idle timer. Does anyone out there have a solution to this problem?? Is there any apps out there that can reset this timer so that it will not got to sleep when I am typing? Please help...

SMSing with 1 hand..

I recently got the JasJam and wanted to know is it possible for a developer to be able to write a code for a '123' keyboard with the 'abc' letters on each number to appear when typing an sms with T9 functionality.
Your replies would be much appreciated..
Thanx.
lol, I would probably be prepared to be flamed for this...
And we wonder why people get in accidents...
I've never seen anything like what you are asking for though, and I think that it would still be very hard to do something like this while driving since it's a touch screen...
actually i think it'd be easier if somebody could write a code to modify the normal keyboard to accept sliding...
that is, if you poke at G then move to H and release at H, H gets typed not G
this makes things very easy to use 1 handed as you can keep your finger pressed to verify what is being typed before actually typing the letter

no he has a valid point... trying to type in porn websites on your hermes while you're masturbating is quite tricky.
also... yes it is possible to do; if MS have released docs on writing your own keyboard map, then it could easily be done
you could try the phone pad cab in the ftp under tools and programs, it gives you the option to have the onscreen keyboard work like a normal phone pad with t9 predictive text
Well, there is an application that I use for one hand SMS. I don't actually use it when I am driving, however I do use it when I don't feel like sliding the keyboard. The app is "Tengo Thumb" and below is the URL and it is not free.
http://www.tengo.net/
Thanx for the replies. Will try TenGo and let u know how it works out..

phone cab is the way to go. Install it, then soft reset and select it instead of the on screen keyboard and you tap on your screen as if its a phone with a keypad.
Pls excuse me..
I am having diffculties locating the Phone cab file..
Pls help.
Installed TengoThumb but it takes time getting used to.
Thanx in advanced.
Found it.
Thanx for your help gents.
Here's the link incase anyone else was looking for it.

@kastro,
I have never used Phone-Pad so I am interested on you thought between the two products.
The reason why i ask this is because it is difficult to type an sms when driving...

In the this country it is not only difficult but illegal! I nearly got killed by somebody using his phone while driving.
for those that don't know after installing the phone cab and restarting you have to select the onscreen keyboard and then press the arrow next the keyboard button
as for how it works, I find it pretty responsive, the t9 works as well as other phones, although if your a fast typer you can outpace the phone sometimes, I didn't find it a big problem.
the only real negatives I found was leaving fingerprints on half myscreen and the phone pad is a lot taller than the normal keyboard
OMg txting while driving
@lpsi2000
Phone pad is much better and more practical to use. It's exactly like using a normal keypad to type T9 sms's - it's actually even better..
The driving was simply an example to 1 hand typing. I started the thread cos there was no possible way i could continue with the Jasjam using its current features to type out an SMS.
And yes, it is illegal in my country... But who obeys the laws at the best of times?
i use the full keyboard while driving yes yes, flame me now...
but actually it works out kinda better, as i can put both hands on the wheel while holding the keyboard and still keep my eyes on the road...
WARNING, do not try this at home, this is a stunt performed by a professional with years and years of texting experience. I will not be held responsible for your inability to multi-task
@kastro,
Thanks for the tip and I will give it a shot.
@shogunmark,
Using the full keyboard while driving is definitely not an easy task especially at night. I agree with the warning, please do not try at home.

Phone Answering UI

Is it possible to change the UI for when the phone is ringing?
I've been searching all morning and have noticed I'm the only one it
seems who has trouble answering the phone, the slide to answer scheme
is horrible and I hang up on people all the time.
Can't seem to find an app or launcher to change the default setup.
Thanks for any help given.
-Muddy
Yeah, I am kind of with you. It's not the best scheme.
But I haven't found anything else available either.
I believe you could try an alternate phone apk in maybe the nexus forums? I'm not sure if it's a good idea yet to switch over and lose the stock phone dialer yet. Guess I'm just scared of doing anything to my phone until all of the BIG bugs with customizing are worked out.
Agreed, guess I'll keep my bluetooth headset nearby to answer with until we find a replacement. :-/
How are you accidently hanging up on people? Don't you just need to swipe left or right?

Q. Does anybody know any software that change sound when we tap screen?

I've used such a software when the HTC Touch first came out. But it slowed down the device so i didn't use it. Now i forget the name of the software. I've search the internet and my my is it hard to find a lost ppc software. thanks guys

LS HDMI & show touch

Hi all,
I'm lately using a lot in the HDMI port.
I have a couple of questions, first, what roms natively support LS?
Second, I'm looking for a way to know where to touch the screen without looking on it,just by looking at the big screen.
Meaning I need some kind of pointer to show where my finger is currently touching.
I saw it in a youtube video, named "Android 4.0.1 ICS on HTC Desire S(With Show Touch)".
People who run CM9, can anyone see this option?
Do you know another of doing it, in CM7 maybe?
10x,
Adam
Go to settings - development you will find it there, else debug menu entry if on cm7
