[Q] 64GB SD Card suddenly read only - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that this thread has gotten quite a lot of views, from searches i assume. Well, sorry to disappoint, the problem i had was that i had accidently toggled the little read only switch on my microsdxc to sd card, so you will have to look elsewhere for a solution to your problem!
Hi, i recently bought a 64GB Sandisk Ultra Microsdxc card for my Samsung Galaxy S III. When i used the Adapter to connect it to my Macbook, i couldn't read/write to its fat32, so i had to format it to something else, so i just chose ExFAT. I put some stuff on it, but now, two days later, the card is suddenly read only? It happend after i exceeded 32GB, although the picture says 36,38GB Available, that's because i tried to delete some stuff from the card. Does anyone have an idea why the card is suddenly read only?
- Thank you!

Stock Camera app can't write to card

I popped in the Micro SD card from my EvoLTE and I can read files just fine but writing is a major issue even for the stock camera app. Attached image is what happens when I change the save path to SD and take a photo.

Check to make sure the card is properly seated in the slot. If that's not it do some tests.
Sd cards do go bad sometimes. I would back up your sd card, double check its the G3 and not the SD card by putting it in another phone, and try another sd card(a friend's?). If your sd card is fine and another sd card doesn't work, your phone might be faulty. If its just your card and your card is ok, might be a weird compatibility issue.
It's a known issue with kit Kat. There's an app called "next app sdfix" in the market that fixed mine. It's free so give it a try

Marshmallow external SD Card Partition

Hello everyone
I have recently switched to CM 13 and I am really enjoying Marshmallow for now.
One of Marshmallow main's feature is that it gives the user the possibility to format his external SD card to be used as internal memory by the phone.
I have a 64Gb SD card, and a phone with 16Gb internal storage. Increasing the storage by merging my SD card could be great, however, I would loose the external access to my SD card, which I don't want.
So here's my question : would it be possible to partition my SD card, and only use one partition as internal memory, and keep the other one free to be used with any other device
Here's a picture summing up what would be the result of such a thing:

Up to 200GB Micro SD or not...

Looks like up to 256GB for me. Took my wife's free Note 7 gift and used it for myself ?
Anyone else test out a higher capacity Micro SD to see if it would work?

damn. Nice
afaik @albertobom also uses a 256GB card - so: confirmed,
ymmv
I'm using it and works great on stock rom. I'm having a hard time to make it work on aosp rom. But on stock everything is fine. No issues of any kind for me.
200GB and 256GB tested no problems
it's never really a hard limit...so if somethign supports SDXC it will usually support up to 2TB if it ever existed.
Yeah why not

Only showing 16gb of storage?

Hi All
I've just purchased two Mi Pad 4's for my daughters which arrived unlocked with a multi language ROM (shipped to the UK from France via Aliexpress) but one of the two devices is only showing 16Gb of internal storage rather than 64Gb.
I assume this is some kind of formatting issue when the ROM was put on the device because as far as I'm aware Xiaomi don't make a 16Gb variant of this device, plus the box and sticker on the back of the device all say 64Gb exactly like the other device that's showing correct storage.
So how do I sort this out, anything I can do with it as-is or does it need wiping and a new ROM flashing on?
cheers

Well if it helps anyone else it did need re-flashing and that's fixed it.
