A hammer through my prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

**** you Asus. $500 for this utter piece of **** tablet. I can't use gmail, email, maps, calendar, widgets, no games at all, pretty much ANYTHING, because everything just hangs after a few seconds. I've waited since last December, one update after the other, even went through a month long RMA, so far no sign of improvement. With the last bits of patience left I'll wait for the jelly bean update... and then if the prime still sucks - I'm going to punch a hole in this thing with a hammer, apply the baseball bat treatment office space style, and post pictures of it here.

Sent from the matrix. (or my phone)

RAM Manager PRO with profile hard gaming fixed all my problems ! I was like you since january... Using that app and slide out apps from recent apps list when I finish using them, gives me 0 crashes.
Try It man !
Good luck !

Why shouldn't he be able to let off a bit of steam after waiting nine months for updates to fix his problems and going through a lengthy RMA process that still didn't fix the issues he's having. It sounds like his Prime is unusable in it's current state which is unacceptable for a $500+ product. I'm sure the stories of being upgraded to an Infinity or being given a full refund doesn't help the situation either, it saddens me to see other people given a get out of jail free card when I'm left with a product I find sub-par from a technical standpoint that I have no way of getting rid of.

I do think he was overly harsh against folks who have problems and cant help themselves. However I got the same weak wifi laggy prime everybody else with problems had, I just did something about it instead of waiting too long to return it and crying the blues. If my college student kid came to me and said I got some tech that is unusable as is but I waited too long to return it. I would ask her whose fault is that?

Instead of giving us that excuse on why you haven't applied a hammer to it yet due to wait on upcoming JB release.
Why don't you just go to ASUS and download the 4.1 JellyBean update for TF300 and install in on your TF201.

Whilst I agree that's what should happen, many people either naively hoped for future fixes and so kept it as it would be a struggle to get another at the time or like myself were unaware of some of the issues until it was too late (I had less than a week since I bought it abroad from a shop that doesn't operate over here). I wasn't able to compare the WiFi since I didn't know where the router was in the Villa I was staying in and had no other device to compare it to so was ignorant to the WiFi problem which I guess you could partly blame me for for not checking online. Many aren't willing to open their Prime's like you did (A move I may try if the WiFi is still poor after my RMA) to fix their issues out of fear of another issue coming up and then not being able to RMA it for that issue.

reliability issues. owners, please VOTE and share your experiance

hello all
I am having a very hard time finding whether or not the current batch of TF201 are having reliability issues. anandtech has confirmed that some the devices that were sent to early reviewers had some small hardware issues. in a follow up article of the retail device ( http://www.anandtech.com/show/5175/asus-transformer-prime-followup ) , anand confirmed that he does not have any issues (other than the lack of ICS)
can we have have your experiance with your current Prime. the other thread is useless in determining that. to quote myself :
"I believe that MODs should delete/lock this thread. i'm hearing that many people have no issues whatsoever with their devices.
the lack of "no problem" makes this poll totally useless for anyone who wants to get idea about the current reliability state of the prime."

Edit JAN2: an update was released today that promises to fix many complaints

poll with more results
http://androidforums.com/asus-eee-pad-transformer-prime/470927-how-satisfied-you-your-prime.html
%86 (first 2) of the voters are saying they are happy
I'm one of the unlucky one who have prime with screen issue. my Prime have horrible screen bleeding that I can't pass looking at it every time I have black seen. Really not a happy camper
serious quality control issues ASUS is having coming out of the gate with these luckily for me its just my GPS that doesn't work.
Love my Prime in most aspects, except for a glaring screen issue (a dead pixel or bleeding in the screen, right near the center - see my thread), and the outer bezel on the right side is starting to feel loose. Got a replacement on order from Amazon.
so about %75 are ok with it. a little less reliable than expected ohh well.
anyone knows when the second batch coming in?

God bless you. Couldnt agree more. My prime creaks
same mistake in every poll.
there must be an option that is pointless so people can click on it to see the votes.
if there is a way to look at polls without voting, i can't be the only one not aware of it.
-1 vote for: kinda.
all these new polls popping up are actually in favor of the prime. just as said before, majority of users arent experiencing major issues or completely satisfied with device. the ones that are just being more vocal as far as making threads n such on it.
Team Prime 4 Life!
I am really happy with the Prime. My only problem is that it's pretty laggy for a Quad Core device. I wonder how fast it'd be if all 4 cores were always on.

Probably translates to 10% of shipped devices having significant issues - still bad, but its true that people who are happy won't be here, or reading the whining threads if they are.
This poll isn't going to be indicative of Prime owner's actual experience because it depends on how people choose to vote. Let me clarify: All Prime's at the moment have hardware issues (the GPS), thus every vote should go towards "Yes" or "Kinda" unless they choose to ignore this hardware issue.
as the poll goes on, it clearly shows way more people are extremely happy with their devices. this is not news to me as I've suspected this all along. and I'm still using the he'll outta my Prime. Loving it. a great purchase indeed.

Still have yet to put it down love this thing!
I may have voted too soon. I voted for "NO. more than happy with my Prime" but I'm having so many small problems that it's becoming a serious issue for me. The tab has randomly frozen while the screen was off about 4-5 times in the last week.
The GPS is spotty..sometimes it works great, sometimes it's off and shows the wrong placement.
Google earth freezes.
MX Video player has frozen a couple times.
My microphone goes in and out. I tried using voice search about 10 times just now to test out the commands such as "navigate to... " "note to self.." It worked every time but now my mic doesn't work at all. Tried doing a Google+ hangout with a few friends and they can't hear me through my mic. I guess I have to RESET it AGAIN....
Resetting takes 2-3 minutes to boot up.
Web browser shows some flash ads as a distorted image.
The last problem I'm having (so far) is that there is a lot of lag in between commands. Sometimes if I open browser or some other app it freezes for a few seconds so I keep pressing different areas of the screen and I get that message asking if i want to "force close" "wait" etc. I press wait and it eventually loads up.
even with super IPS on there is no issue with screen bleed
My gps sucks but i have no need for it so I have yet to fully test it

prime is up to par...

grey 32gb preordered 11/23 bestbuy STD shipped received 12/28.
initial screen bleeding and wifi issues.
bleeding went away after reboot and wifi /GPS works good not great after update.
tested wifi moms, friends, home, panera, Barnes n nobles, church, and my tethering.
all wifi analyiser and speedtest are compareable with my razr and friends og transformer at all places.
tested dolphin mini n mobile, opera mini n mobile, Firefox, n opera mobile is the smoothest and love it.
the tetra 3 games are incredible shows off the capabilities of the processeors.
camera is great.
screen is brilliant and bleeding went away.
reading all the negative reviews I got sucked in but I think the scrutiny was because of the hype and botched release definitely the thinnest, fastest, and sharpest tablet on the market now.
after debunking the issues and playing with it hardcore for 4 days no need to return it but will get the bestbuy warranty.
can't wait to c what this thing will do with ICS.

Just the boost in confidence I needed for buying one next week.
I was just about getting snowed under by all the negativity, thinking its complete crap.
Fixing screen bleed by rebooting, thats a new one though.
How does bleed go away? By the premise of the condition, it would seem the only way to go is worse.
Cool for you, none the less
Glad you're enjoying it! We're going to see more positive reviews as they start shipping out more this month.

I was wondering the same.
I had the same thing also the bleed was on one side in the setup and then it was gone and havent seen it since
I've had my Prime for a week and a half, and am very happy with it. Screen is great, speed is good. Wish the GPS worked better (mine does lock on, just takes like 10 minutes), but that isn't a big deal for me.
Gaming is cool with a PS3 controller (connected to dock's USB port).
If going from honeycomb to ICS is as big of an improvement on this device as it was on my Xoom (night and day difference to me), this device will be even better soon.

My theory is that its a firmware issue as opposed to hardware. How on earth could they push out a tablet without testing gps... My bets on one of these initial updates contained a gps bug. Id rather them spend the time on the ics update then a short term fix for honeycomb. Hopefully my theory holds true and ics will round everything out

I think so too. A lot of other tablets and phones that I heard about with similar issues was remedied with a software update. They either changed values or updated drivers. Another good theory is that since this was rushed, and was supposed to have ICS anyways on it, honey comb was literally slapped up here without much testing as far as making sure everything capatible. One thing is for sure, the broadcom GPS chip in here is top of the line for tablets now. An upgrade on the one in the galaxy tabs. So it'll make more since for it to be a software issue vs. The thin aluminum back cover. Yes, the metal back cover could be affecting it but I think its more to it then just that. Maybe a combo of that and bad software/drivers equates to what's going on now.
Plus ICS could literally drop any moment now.

About the light bleed disappearing, the glue that holds the screen down probably wasn't dry completely when the OP bought it. Give it some time and the glue will dry, and there goes your light bleed, in most cases.
It wasn't a reboot that fixed it, it was time.
Sent from my Snapdragon.
He was talking about a column of multicolored pixels on the right (in landscape) during initial setup, not backlight bleed... it's happened to a number of people, including myself.

Returned Transformer Prime After One Day

I received my Prime on Monday January 9th and returned it on January 10th. First and most disappointing fact was the GPS failed to establish a lock. No signals were ever displayed using GPStest. This was after receiving two OTA updates which I was hopeful one of them would correct the problem. Neither update addressed the GPS issue.
There was backlight bleed on left side of display. Although my keyboard dock had not arrived, I cancelled it as well. Bottomline, I decided to keep the Transformer 101 and wait for better offerings. This was very unfortunate because I had very much anticipated the new tablet.
Although otherwise it appeared to be a very nice tablet, the issues just turned me off completely.

Actually, now it is GPS and "SERIAL NUMBER UNKNOWN"
Trust me, as more people get there tablets in hand, and cannot download and install firmware 4.0 ICS, they are going to be complaining about that too.
I am pissed about mine. Just got it yesterday, has "Serial Number Unknown" and I cannot install any updates. Heck yeah I am going to be negative. The "FIRST TABLET WITH ANDROID 4.0" for me is just "ANOTHER TABLET WITH HONEYCOMB 3.2.1."
I should be happy about that? It would be nice if there was a stickied thread for WIFI & GPS PROBLEMS so everyone could post there. Maybe even one for "Serial Number Issues" that way everyone else can post about how awesome their tablet is and the rest of us can moan in the OFFICIAL NEGATIVITY MY PRIME DOESN'T WORK RIGHT thread.
Problem is, I love my Prime, it seems to be pretty good. However, those of you with ICS, think about how much better it is with ICS. Meanwhile, I am stuck with Honeycomb cause of the Serial Number Issue. I cannot enjoy all the upgraded speed, faster touch response, new features etc.

That sucks. Sorry to hear about it. However, the point everyone is trying to make is that we don't need 600 new threads for each person who has a problem. Not only does it clog up the entire forum but it makes it much more difficult for people that do have problems to find answers. What's easier, browsing through one thread or searching through 50 different ones?
Also, nobody cares that whomever took it back and is getting something else. What's the point then? Nobody can help you (in this case, the OP) fix it now that it's gone. Why bother posting it at all!?
I'm about to cook up some lunch here in about 20 minutes.
#Can'tWait!
Really, if you are too retarded to know that the GPS wasn't working good you shouldn't have a tablet at all because it probably too hard to understand for you.
I had a Motorola Photon, then tried out an Epic 4G Touch. Decided to keep the Samsung instead of the Motorola. Did NOT have any desire to go to any Motorola forums and announce that fact. None. Zero. In fact, haven't visited a Motorola forum since.
Why would I? I don't have a Motorola...

Totally new issue, and I am done with this piece of cr*****p.

I had first noticed that while docked I had this flickering while closing the tab. It appears there is something totally wrong with this unit. Today I was playing zen pinball and i pressed hardly for the right flipper and this screen flickering again. Starting with the bezel when I apply pressure to the right bottom part of the tab the screen flickers into white. I don't think it is a common issue.

Ok, every product has a small percentage of defective devices. Besides the other issues, THIS is that small group. Return it, it's that simple. They will send you a new one. No need to create a topic to vent your anger when there is a very simple solution.
Wait wait wait.....no nobody is allowed to complain??? If it's a valid concern that doesn't seem right.

Mine dID something like this after exiting a game. This was a couple of days after ICS installed. I did a couple of reboots and it disappeared. Never did it before ICS and has been good since. I marked it up to ICS and program issue. Prime is working great now and even the same game works fine. Hopefully it is something similar.

People certainly can complain, but it would be much more useful if the issue was in the name of the thread instead of just having a trolly URGH MY PRIME IS SUCH A PIECE OF CRAP title. Why would anyone wanna help someone who's insulting the device he's asking help for?
Did you try a reset, uninstalling the app and reinstalling?

Ok true. However most are told to read before they post. If you read in this forum, you get about two pages before, uggghhh I hate this piecer lol.
Joeyle: just to be fair, I remember in the wifi thread you being one of the loudest Asus bashers. I can pull up posts if you want. I'm just saying. Give other people a chance too, as you were given.
What is wrong with people who throw flames to someone complaining about an item spent that much. Don't worship companies which screw you with defective units, false advertisement and all. Then you become not different from Apple worshippers.

The Complaint System Works
How quickly everyone forgot about the bootloader, the whole Prime community sang the loudest compaint campaign that made Asus change their mind about the lock. Let's give those with valid reasons the room to voice their concerns, not getting any answer or support will only lead to fans losing their Prime esteem and leaving the fold.

That's not true. I only was angry when the rumor was that the Prime was being discontinued for another tablet (TF700) however that isn't true in the end.

LOL...arent they all defective!
Up today I hated Apple. My next tablet will be Ipad3.
I am just joking. I'll wait for the next Samsung. I am not an Acer guy, and although I have huge respect for Asus in the PC area (for the last 17 years my mainboards had always been Asus, 7 note and netbooks including TM91 and I recently bought the Zenbook) i lost my trust in the Android arena. I returned TF1 in a week because of terrible light bleeding, and now this. I thought mine was perfect except GPS but after 3 weeks of use now I discover the screen issue. I was really sorry to see Samsung not giving any hints about its next tablet in CES 2012. I had 2 Acer notebooks with huge problems, so it is not my brand. It means I'll wait some time and am very sorry for selling GTab 10.1.

LOL....what do you consider defective? Oh, you must mean the GPS.. no where did Asus claim that GPS reception on this unit would perform on par or better than the original, you just assumed it. Not up to your standards then return it.

Wait wait wait.....no nobody is allowed to complain??? If it's a valid concern that doesn't seem right.

It's definatly a valid concern. I'm just wondering why we have threads with people just venting. It's a VERY easy fix. If Asus didn't fix it, THEN he should vent, I would too. I just feel like Asus deserves the benefit of the doubt on this. Don't blast a company if you haven't even tried to work out the issue.

This is one of the most ignorant statements on this forum.
So when you bought your garmin nuvi which says gps on the box and you cant use it within 50 feet of any structures or trees, that to you is acceptable because the box does not state "it works".
GPS printed on my prime box, meaning GPS should work ALL the time, not on Sundays at 3pm wearing a blue tie and purple pants. GPS should work as GPS is expected to. Outside with clear skys should not display can not locate satellites...

Returning Prime today

I received my Prime a week ago and I am going to return it today.
I have the latest firmware updates, including the GPS "fix" which changed my GPS capability from marginal to absolutely useless. And I have the bluetooth wifi issue, although it only occurs with one of my headsets. Two newer headsets do not cause the problem so it's not an issue. Neither is the GPS since I don't really need it on a tablet. And I really like the ICS UI on the Prime, and with ADW EX on top, I love it.
However, the overriding problem is general poor wifi reception. One of the things I do every day with a tablet (in addition to read email, browse, and play words with friends) is watch video at night in bed, using a tablet to not disturb my wife. My old crappy (albeit with CM7) Nook Color does this flawlessly and has full bars of wifi at this location, which is about 20 ft from the wifi router, but through a wall and a floor. The Prime shows one or two bars but stutters so much on streaming video (from netflix, youtube, other internet, or local server) that it is unusable.
I think that once it was discovered the Prime had so many issues, Asus' first priority should not have been trying to roll out half-tested firmware updates but to release the bootloader unlocker as quickly as possible. I have far more confidence in the devs at XDA to fine tune the software of a device to get the best possible performance of the hardware than I do with any manufacturer. And I should have followed my own rule on buying mobile devices, and that is to not consider buying one unless there are XDA roms available for it. But, it was quad core! And ICS! And hi-res! I got caught up in the excitement and ignored my own advice.
Now I don't know what to buy. Maybe wait for the 700 series, or just get an OG transformer once the price drops.
Cool story, bro.
I'm having an omelette this morning with some really spicy jalapeno cheese and some nice uncured ham. It should be really good. I think I'll enjoy it immensely.
This morning, I took a big dump, at first I thought that I would delay doing it till the evening so that I can a better version (after lunch) but I was having so many issues and my stomach was making noises so I decided to just go.
Moral of the story: No one gives a f**k whether you keep your Prime or return it. There are already countless threads like these, please stop posting this s**t.
Hmmm interesting
going to the gym now, then watching some tennis.

TMI, man. TFMI.
Goodbye from this forum then, we wont be seeing you around anymore. All these issues still haven't put me off cancelling my order.

Just stupid and no one cares!
My life is complete now that I know the info reported in this thread. Thanks for that!!!! We are glad you are gone....please do not return. You don't deserve to have such power in your hands. Do us a favor and don't get the TF700 either, you can't handle bleeding edge technology. As a matter of fact....just close your XDA account.....you have nothing to offer us.
Not to mention there is already a thread about this!!!! you should be banned from XDA!!!!! that's my VOTE!

I think the fact that he specified "sucker" implies pretty strongly that he did not disclose the defects.
Oh, and, about that iPad 2 the guy bought and light bleed:

Sorry, also forgot to mention the iPad 2 and dead pixels. No need to link all of the stories, here's the Google Search link: https://www.google.com/webhp?source...303290c933ce3a0&biw=1366&bih=643&ix=heb&ion=1
And Apple's official policy for dead pixels on the iPad 2 seems to be that there have to be three of them before the thing can get replaced (with some wiggle room on a first replacement): http://www.tuaw.com/2010/11/05/apple-dead-pixel-policy-leaked-one-for-iphone-three-for-ipad-g/

My bad. I should have looked for threads on this topic before posting. But from the responses it appears poor wifi performance on a wifi-only device is not much of an issue for some people.

For some folks WiFi seems to work fine. For others, the signal and speed degrades rapidly as you move away from the router. Much worse than other devices for me.

The responses to your post have nothing to do with the Prime's performance, and everything to do with your creating another thread harping on the same issues that already exist in many, many duplicate threads. Why should anyone feel the need to respond to you about issues that've already been beaten to death?
