[Q] TouchWiz 5 GT-i9300T AUS Vodafone Dock problems - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all newbie here and did a few searches and tried to look for help but could not find right info, also I hope I am in the right spot to post so please feel free to tell me if I am not in the right place. Currently running ICS 4.0.4 up-to-date at time of writing on Vodafone Australia but I don't think the country of service provider is the problem. I have a problem with my 'Home Screen Dock' NOT THE 'Lock Screen Dock' I can change icons on the lock screens no problems, All the help, forums and videos on changing the 'Home Screen Dock' Icons say to simply drag, drop[ and replace. All i wanted to do is change the stock "Internet" Icon with Chrome. Dragged the internet icon of and went to drag the Chrome one on but I can't as instead of the dock staying visible like on some videos it changes to the Delete Icon option. Cant find settings please help. Also I do not want to use a 3rd party launcher. I tried Apex and do like it but I use widgets and can't use widgets as my phone is not rooted. Please help arrrgghhh. Thanks in advance.
PS . I just have a blankspot where my internet Icon use to be.

I am running JB at the moment, so can't tell you perfectly. But I remember having this situation before and I used menu-edit to change icons in dock. try that.
Or go into app drawer and navigate to page where chrome is then go menu-edit... pick chrome and try to bring it down on the dock.

Doing menu-edit changes the dock bar and give me the following 4 options to drag the icon on to.... "Create Folder" "Create Page" "File Info" "Delete".

Thanks for your reply...I had already tried this. The only difference is that now once you start to drag instead of the "Creat Folder" "Create Page" "File Info" and "Delete" it does the same but just with those as icons and no text.

Gonna go and get rooted the I can take full advantage of APEX Launcher.

Hi All,
Like StefsGalaxy, I've done a myriad of searches re: TouchWiz Shortcut Dock and thus have yielded no results, or at least nothing fluid anyway.
I guess it is a localised issue. i.e. AU Only. I'm with the Vodafone network but have seen posts the same from people who are on Telstra.
I've read a few threads on XDA RE: Modifying TouchWiz, and have been fairly successful. Said Mods have mostly been Column / Row modifications to allow for more icons on the HomeScreen and AppDrawer.
I'm interested to know if there is a way I can
A) Modify the application shortcuts on the dock (within the APK)
B) Undo the changes that Samsung have 'borked'
C) Revert to a pre-jelly bean version of TouchWiz (seclauncher2.apk) where the functionality to change the Apps still exists..
Perhaps if I could find seclauncher.apk from a 4.0.4 build (any directions on where are welcome), I could compare the differences between the two and re-compile for 4.1.1.
Any alternative suggestions that don't involve a complete ROM change or a new Launcher? (I quite like what I have)
Thanks in advance....

[Android] Hiding apps in the Drawer

Okay so I rooted my phone and have been having some fun with the pm disable <package name> command. I am wondering whether there is anyway to hide applications from the drawer but not completely disable them.
I have access to these apps on the home screen and don't need them taking up space on the drawer. Obviously this isn't that important, but I can appreciate good design and maybe this is possible (without a home replacement app!)?
Any help is appreciated
On some Roms you can hide these icons by opening the app drawer, long pressing on the icon you want to hide, dragging it onto the desktop (but dont remove your finger) and then when the app drawer closes, drag the icon to the trash.
Not all ROMs allow this but some do.

What you're referring to is the advanced launcher here is the link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540880
I think what the poster wanted was a stand alone way to do this without having to rely on one particular ROM or having to use any particular launcher/home replacement.

Advanced launcher is just an advanced version of the current home though. You would be able to use it and not even know that it's not the default launcher, it works exactly the same, looks exactly the same and behaves the same bar a few added features like folders in the drawer, hiding applications and setting the number of homescreens.
This thread is pretty old, but I can't find an answer to this question anywhere else. Is there any way to hide apps in the drawer? I have a rooted evo with sense. There must be a way someone has found by now!
Only way I know of is an alternate launcher. I use Launcher Pro and that allows hiding icons.

I want to do this too
it can be done from root explorer renaming app.apk to app.bak
but some will not work
Well there is this app and it seems to work as described with a ton of bonus features... Just make sure to restart you phone after hiding the apps to make it work.

Er. No it doesn't - it just hides files
Actually it does remove files and i just used it. After long pressing the "audio manager" logo it comes to menu with one icon being "hide apps". Click and select what to hide.

Launcher Pro on Nook Color: how to remove/change dock shortcuts

I figured out how to remove the useless dock icons from Launcher Pro, it's a little bit of a workaround, but it works...and I love me some LauncherPro
1. Make a backup of a launcher pro home screen from another android device, without any dock icons or with the ones you want.
2. Copy the "/sdcard/launcherpro_backup" directory from your other device onto your Nook Color (into the same place on the SD card), and restore launcher pro from the backup. (I used Astro to do all the dirty work)
Here is a zipped backup of my blank launcher pro setup (no dock icons, no widgets, no nothing):

(I can't make links yet, so just copy/paste the URL...)

did this, but now when I go to re-add my shortcuts to the homescreen, only the icons get added, not the text under them...

Yes, the checkbox is at Preferences > Appearance Settings > Hide Icon Labels.
Not a genius...just stuck in my ways. Launcher Pro has always been the fastest one out there!
Thanks, though!

So after i restore to blank can i add new shortcuts in the dock. I long press and tap add shortcut and it just brings up the honescreen again.
Can't add shortcuts on NC. BN cripped that functionality.

You can't, unless you have access to another device that you can use to make a backup with the correct shortcuts that you want to use.
I was considering making one with a couple of actually useful shortcuts for the Nook Color...but I am afraid that there would be a flood of requests, and there are more important things that need work for me.
If anyone would want to step up and offer that, I'm sure there would be some happy customers!

I may be misunderstanding, but I can add shortcuts to the home screen (launcher pro) by going to the app page and holding down the app icon until it jumps back to the home screen. I can't move them to the dock at the bottom of the page, tho.
rooted with auto-nooter 2.12.18. BTW, thanks!

So as this works great... as in I load up launcher pro on my Epic 4G, change all icons to what apps are on nook color that I want down on the 3 sliding bars, backup and then restore to nook. Kinda a pain to do that more than once
I loaded Launcher Pro 0.8.2 onto the nook color running 2.2.1 via MicroSD card and it works great. Not a single lockup resizing things, and can add, remove and customize any of the icons in dock all I want. Here is a youtube of that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra8xROjFpY4
So I guess that is just another one of those things that just won't work like it should via a hacked up 2.1 on these things? I would love to have that workin... As like the other guy says... I love me some launcher pro. Just not sure if I should give up hope and just wait for some legit Froyo action for things to be all purdy.
Other than having to convert videos for this thing so far and having to use Zeam which I actually am starting to like, these Nook Colors are awesome! Can't beat a tablet with this power and this screen for $250!

CircleLauncher - cool launcher widget/add on

Saw this on Gizmodo:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/circlelauncher-light/de.dbware.circlelauncher.light
Multi select apps from one widget.
Liking it!
Tried this. It duplicates the launcher icons every redraw until it gets overwhelmed and FCs. Give it more time.
That problem only occurs with Angry Birds. I believe they are working on a fix.
Hi all,
Does anyone have a clue, how to:
- Add a shortcut to Circlelauncher.
I mean the shortcut should appear as app, maybe in the manu as well.
Ive been using it for a while now and think it's great! occasionally it slows down when opening one of the circlelancher widgets (i have four on my screen) but have never experienced an FC from it.
Tap to open the launcher. Currently installed apps appear. To add more, tap circle icon. List of all apps should appear. Check the ones you want....Is this what toy meant?

Do you mean getting the circlelauncher to appear on your screen? If so keep in mind that they are widgets so you have to long press on your screen and select it from the widget menu.
If you mean choosing the individual apps, you choose them from the settings menu.
Hi all, thanks for the answers.
But you dont get it, so far. So: I would like to add a shortcut (like call the chosen contact, go to wifi settings) to the circle. The problem is, that you can add only apps which are on the devicle. I should make the shortcut to appear as app, and than I could add it to circlelauncher.
Or to add shortcut somehow else. (I know that in a normal case, you can not add shortcuts to it)
I want to clear my homesreen totaly btw. Dou you know any launcher, that would let me to even make the dialer or contact button to disapperar? (have motorola defy)
BR to all.

Since the Nook Color so far can't make shortcuts, I might suggest asking in the Motorola Defy section of the forum.
facebook picture for contacts
Circlelauncher is a great widget so far, haven't had any problems. Does anyone know if it's possible to use the facebook pictures as the picture for the contacts? That would be a great addition!
Is there a way to arrange the order of the icons? I want to group like items.
Cheers,

[Q] Missing Messaging Icon from undertray Galaxy S2

Hi,
I have somehow accidently deleted the Messaging Icon from the undertray where the 4 standard icons go, now the problem is the messaging icon is not in the applications so cannot drag it back there again!
Does someone know how I can get this back, if I search the phone the Messaging Icon is there and I can click it to go to messaging, but it just isn't in the applications so cannot drag it back when editing the undertray.
I am completely stock and not rooted (yet...)
Thanks in advance,
Go to applications, click on the menu button and select list view. This is an alphabetical sort, so messaging should be there under M.
how the devil did you do that! i thought the four icons in TW4 were locked in place? id love to be able to change them but keep the TW4 launcher
kinda mad since your not rooted, you have any idea how you did it?

Now you can drag and drop the icons around
@Sleepycat3 Thanks for the reply, I tried as you suggested but the Messaging App is not in the list (see attachment).
Anyone got anymore suggestions, it is really driving me mad!!
@Crucio_ As to how I did it, I have now worked that out...
Hit Applications, Press Menu, then Press Edit you can now drag all Apps around including the undertray. Be careful though if you remove the Messaging App you can't get it back - As I have found out
I would suggest trying to re install the message app, or push it with adb/root explorer. But if your not rooted i don't know enough about these things to give you proper advice.
Only thing i would say try is get the .apk for the message app and install it and see what happens

[Q] ICS build task650-aokp-build-35 question about speed dial

I just changed over to task650-aokp-build-35 and in the process of setting everything up again. I can not find a feature to designate phone numbers for speed dialing. Can someone point me in the right direction? Other than that, the ICS build is awesome.
Thanks,
Jim
First, update to build 37.
Open up the phone and hit menu, settings, speeddial.
Thanks. I'm a noob so one question. Can I just do an update or do I have to wipe and flash again?

but if you didnt do a full wipe, then some features might be missing.
The stock AOKP dialer does not support speed dial. You can however set favorites. If you need speed dial just download a different dialer from the market that supports it.

If the icon is all you want - download a Go Launcher EX ICS theme. And assuming you are using Nova launcher that comes with AOKP (if you are not you should, it is awesome). Press and hold the dialer icon of you new dialer app - and replace the icon of your new dialer with one from the ICS theme icon pack from Go Launcher.
It sound like a PITA but it really isn't. I did the same thing cause I do not like the GMail icon for I did the above steps and replaced it with the stock email icon.
I just found a way to do what I wanted. Part of ICS is guess.
1. Place shortcut to app on home screen
2. press and hold shortcut until it can be moved.
3. drag and drop on top of phone icon.
(this creates a toolbar with both apps)
4. tap toolbar to show both icons
5. press and hold stock dialer icon until it can be moved.
6. drag icon to delete area.
(this leaves only the dialer icon in place of the stock dialer icon)
Cool stuff. I am liking ICS better and better.

Does this have anything to do with your original question, the speed dial?
I've tried to visualize your 6 steps above and can't imagine how that accomplish what you want.
The original question of how to get speed dial is answered by replacing the stock dialer with one from the market. The last part is replacing the stock dialer shortcut with the shortcut to the replacement dialer.

there is a much easier way of replacing that.
remove one. replace with another. no need to make a folder with both apps, and then remove one. This has nothing to do with ICS, just the launcher. and that feature has been around for years.
Play around with android, its pretty cool.

Thumbs up.
This exactly what I had in mind, but I thought OP made 6-step speed-dial working. If just for placing the icon (new app) on the home scree, it could be done in 2 steps, one remove the stock, two, place the new one on the home screen.
