I dug and searched for the same thing, from what I found all over the internet, no. I resorted to using the email app for gmail and unchecking the sync gmail in my account list so I wouldn't get double notified. The stock email app is pretty good, no issues, seems a little more flexible.

K-9 Mail not saving settings

Hi!
I'm using K-9 Mail instead of the stock email app on my rooted NookColor and I've noticed that the changes I make in settings are not stored
Anyone here using K-9 Mail too? Do you have the same problem?
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Folder settings I saw this, but no-where else. It seems to not be reproducible on the latest version on their site, especially if you use the status bar back button, NOT the big text Back button in the dialog.
I logged a bug because I could NOT get it to set folder settings (and stick), and now I can't repro it.
Thank you very much: it has solved my problem
I used K-9 on my Droid for about 6-7 months. I then discovered how to use the Gmail app to have my pop3 emails pushed. Here's a quick writeup I did over on DF about extending battery life. This one paragraph is about the gmail app:
Emails: I don't know what email app you use, but try this. It saves battery power and in some cases emails arrive quicker. This scheme will have you using only the Gmail app on the phone for all email accounts whether they are pop3 accounts or Gmail. Go to the Google Gmail inbox on your computer and log into the Gmail account. On the top right of the screen is an option called Settings. In there is an option to have the Gmail program poll your regular, non-Gmail accounts. Provide the email address and the password. The Google Gmail program will then poll your other accounts on a frequency from 1-5 minutes and push the email immediately to your phone. The polling frequency is determined by each account's activity - more emails = faster polling. It will always be no less frequent than every five minutes. This saves battery power because on the android OS pop3 accounts are polled at a frequency of 1-30 minutes and that really eats battery. Because the phone goes and checks those accounts for mail whether there is mail there or not.
I've been doing the above for 6-7 months now and could not be happier. Good luck.

No thanks, I like K9. And POP3? Welcome to 1990.......
I was having the same problem a couple of days ago with the latest version from the Market. The solution I did was to not use the big back button up top but the little one down below just like you mentioned. The big one wouldn't save settings but the little one did. Weird

Actually not weird; the Back button that the B&N ROM has on the dialogs isn't sending the right intents, as the K9 folks found out.
I logged a bug about this in their tracker and they discovered the difference in the buttons and that the status bar back (from Softkeys) works. Although I still swear it wasn't working for either at first.

[Q] Disabling GMail app (no root) - Solved

Hey all,
Can't believe I am actually interested in disabling GMail.
But the standard "Mail" app seems to have a nicer UI than the Gmail app. Especially since it has dedicated Gmail settings.
But how do I disable the gmail app (can't be uninstalled...yet)? Obviously without root, and not sure it's worth the trouble to temp root.
It's just that every email received at Gmail gives me two separate notifications...
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
The best I can think of (without rooting) is turning off notifications for Gmail so you don't get harassed by two alerts.

That's really all you need to do.
I turned off the gmail notification the first day I had the thing for the same reason.

FWIW, the dedicated Gmail settings in the Sense mail app are POP3 settings. In other words, every email will show up on your phone as unread, even if you have read it on another device or the web interface.

Thanks for this. I did disable notifications for the Gmail app, which worked like a charm.
As to the pop3 mail, I did not get an inbox full of unread mail when I set it up.
Perhaps the Sense mail has been improved? I am familiar with what you are describing, but that is not the behavior I am seeing.

This issue happened for me on my Rezound, so we are talking about the same Sense version. When I set it up, I didn't get an inbox full of unread messages either, but every message I got from then on wouldn't get marked in Sense mail as unread unless I viewed it from within that app. So, for example, I could get a new gmail message in the gmail app/sense mail, and view it in the gmail app/web interface, but even after refreshing the sense mail it still shows up as unread. Eventually I had to remove the gmail account in sense mail and set it up manually as an IMAP.
An HTC rep responded to an email of mine and basically told me that manual IMAP was the only way to get around the issue. But kudos to you if everything is working!

I had this problem too I had to clear my chrome sync data on my Google account clear the data on the Internet app and then sign in and out of chrome. Make sure you are only encrypting your passwords in chrome.

Oh fantastic!
It worked.
For anyone else who stumbles across this thread, what I did was...
In google chrome settings via a computer, There is a hyperlink to google dashboard. Go there and down to Chrome Sync, I reset and deleted chrome data. (Don't worry, it doesn't delete your bookmarks, picasa, or gmail). Then it reset Chrome so that it was not "encrypt all data" and instead is now "encrypt with password", like you said.
Problem fixed.
Thank you so much!
Is it possible to sync both my personal laptop and work PC to chrome? I have my laptop syncing to my primary gmail account and my work PC to my secondary gmail. Can I sync both computers to the same gmail and maintain separate, unique settings for each?

In chrome settings, disable syncing to whichever account you want to let go. Then sign back in with the correct account.
Then, under the syncing options, you can chose what exactly to sync; Browsing history, extensions, bookmarks, etc.
So, yes.

If I am understanding correctly, I can sign into both machines using a single email (gmail account) and they will both stay synced separately? Just want to make sure I'm retaining all of my synced settings for both machines. Thanks for the clarification.
What I don't like about this is that it merges all bookmarks and items in the bookmark bar. I wish it would keep them separate by device. Not practical with the work computer...

Worked perfectly. Thank you.
fixed finally
On my sensation it seems that "reset Chrome so that it was not "encrypt all data" and instead is now "encrypt password" is what repaired my "internet sync" problem.
Thank you!

This worked for me too! I previously had had chrome. Had to get a new galaxy 3. I redownloaded chrome on the new phone and deleted sync data from my desktop then signed back in to chrome on desktop as well . Went back to my phone and hit sync internet and it worked.
I've had the same problem on my SGS3 so I decided to look it up on here. The fix is fine and all, but what exactly does syncing "Internet" do anyway?
Android and Desktop Chrome Sync
I know this is a little old, but I found this thread after having sync problems as well. So I thought I'd post the fix.
I assume you are using chrome on both devices.
you can have encryption on everything and still sync across devices, but you have to have the encryption set the same on both, and use either the passphrase or the google account option, but again it must be the same on both (all?) devices.
I failed to change the setting on my phone when on my desktop browser I reset syncing to encrypt everything, not just passwords.
On your chrome browser for android go into "settings" then tap account name at top then "sync" then "encryption" then match whatever you did on the desktop, and everything should work again.
there's really no reason not to encrypt everything IMHO

Tell your work computer not to sync certain things. like bookmarks. It's how I have mine set up. I sync everything except bookmarks and extensions
Swyped on my EVO LTE
I still want to know what syncing "Internet" actually does.
Had this problem on both my GS2 and my HTC ONE.
Only thing that worked was going to "Google Dashboard" from your computer web browser
Find "Chrome Sync", and click on "Stop sync and delete data from Google"
Refresh your Internet Sync on your Android.

I only use the stock browser, so I wouldn't know, but any browser that syncs with your google account will have the same issue.
for me the issue is slightly different.
my google account bookmarks syncs well on chrome pc and chrome and chrome beta on my android devices (2tabs and phone)...
but it doesn't work for stock browser on any of them. stock browser doesn't sync with server from a month.
already tried to reset data on server...and tried to disactivate and restart syncing on each device. nothing worked.
i set to encrypt only passwords..

Exchange no server side search

I just got a ONE. I setup exchange (my outlook.com email) I try a search for something i KNOW is in the subject field from a few months ago. I get no results and no option to server side search. Is this just the usual exchange support on android sucks?
I haven't gotten my One yet, but I have a One X and the server side search can be a bit iffy at times. I haven't figured out why myself, but sometimes things pop up and other times even if I know I am searching for exactly what it is, it will not find it. I think it's how HTC's e-mail app searches, can be a bit wonky.

Very strange. Possibly outlook.com email issues. My verizon galaxy note 2 had the same issue no search server but when i replaced it with AOSP email app, that one works and searches server automatically just like the gmail app searches gmail.

Are you using a hotmail or outlook.com email address? Also if using outlook is it a paid office 365 version or just the free one (hotmail/live type account). Thanks, this will help me get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for the replies. As stated, i tried the outlook app from the play store.. That doesn't search the server either for me. It only searches emails on the device itself.

E-mail App

Just a general question, or just a point out. Why would google put that e-mail app in Lollipop, when gmail can take care of all your accounts, another thing the email app is not even usable when you open it. It'll just redirect you to the Gmail app. Just weird Google would do that.
Gmail handles all email accounts now. Just slide out the side menu, and the accounts will appear by the top if you linked them.

Actually, gmail *does not actually* handle anything at all besides gmail itself.
It is actually opening activities from the regular email application.
If you disable gmail, you will find that the functionality of email increases.
Either way, they both suck badly. I suggest k9mail and disabling both of email/gmail.
Gmail does actually handle exchange and hotmail .... at least for me.
I deleted Touchdown.
Wish Inbox was updated to handle more than just Gmail.

Why I ever want to disable Gmail it works it provides my inboxs, calendars, and address books from every email account I own.

Give up. You are incorrect and parroting garbage being spouted by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
In fact, how about you try this TO PROVE ME WRONG:
DELETE the following trees;
/system/app/PrebuiltEmailGoogle
/system/app/PrebuiltExchangeGoogle
But LEAVE
/system/app/PrebuiltGmail and whatever update may be installed in /data/app
Observe how suddenly "gmail" can no longer use IMAP, POP3, SMTP, or exchange.
Hmm, I wonder why that would be, if these were actually functions of gmail.
Like I said, I'm truly sorry for you, that you were dropped on your head as a child.
Why no other mail??
Apart altogether from the frankly appalling suggestions (which should warrent a permanent ban, I have a relative who was dropped when small) why (apart from paranoia and greed) does Lolli not have an option to pick up the former mail app; I don't like gmail and don't like learning a new one.

I don't know if it's greed as much as survival. I'm the same way where I prefer not to use the gmail app and YouTube app or be logged into my browser and have google search everything I'm doing. What got me excited about gmail when it first came out was it offered free pop3 with basically unlimited storage for free. Then they offered imap which was way better. All these years since gmail came out I only logged in to the actual gmail site or app very rarely, mostly just because it's better at searching for old emails. Realistically though, as awesome as AOSP and Nexus devices are, it doesnt do them any good to offer a general mail client that pushes people away from the gmail ads. Makes more sense for them to try and get us Nexus people excited about Inbox even if a lot of us are old school curmudgeons. Very few people these days use stand alone email clients outside of the office. Much more people likely use their own personal domain email using gmail as the mail client as weird as that is to us.
