When will we see Exynos 5? Which device will get it? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, just wondering when Samsung will officially release their Exynos 5 to the public and which device do you guy's think will receive it?
Please, no talk of Apple and A-15 etc!!
I think the new Nexus may get the Exynos 5, it's Google's flagship and they are going to want to make a bold statement. I am surprised Note 2 or either of the new tabs released recently didn't get it. Is it ready for public release?

Anyone's guess is as good as yours. I'm guessing either the new Nexus, or Galaxy S4.

It seems just guess work at the moment
It was announced in early August, I am guessing that was just too soon for the Note 2!
Sad as it sounds I am rather excited about the specs of this chipset from Samsung, if it appears in the Nexus then I will most certainly be getting one

Any ETA for new nexus?

November would be my guess. I'm also guessing we'll be seeing more than one Nexus this time.

I doubt that Nexus phone will ever get the exynos chip because it's documentation is semi closed source comparing to TI or Qualqomes one which doesn't meet the main purpose of nexus product - be the base for developers. I'm sure they will use omap 4470 dual in next nexus which performance is pretty same as exynos in S3. Speaking about Exynos 5 it's obvious for me that it will appear in galaxy S4 and Note 3 and tablets than and have a little better performance then A6 chip(Imo).

I guess this is a possibility, Samsung will want to make the S4 as best it can, I still think it could appear before then (guessing around May next year for S4) maybe the rumoured larger Nexus....

Partially agree, new nexus will most likely have omap or snapdragon cpu, but when you said that nexus isnt possible to have exynos, you were kinda wrong, nexus s did feature exynos (old single exynos 3 if you remember )

Not sure it is a mid range phone, I would call a Nokia Lumia 800 a mid range phone and the last Nexus is still better than that
I think with the rumour that multiple Nexus devices might appear means there will be some competition, meaning a better and higher spec device for users offering the pure google experience, which ultimately is what I would like (without rooting and flashing custom rom).
At the end of the day I am just a Technology wh0re, I don't care so much for specs and power more for the technology as a whole :good:

The next nexus will not have an exynos 5, as stated already it'll more than likely be omap.
Its more open source friendly than exynos.

Spotted Samsung's prototype with A-15 CPU (dual core): http://www.sammobile.com/2012/09/19...-powered-by-cortex-a15-cpu-and-mali-t604-gpu/
My bet is this is next Nexus, because its too soon to test SGS4 yet and also it will get quad core CPU IMO (it would be bad marketing if SGS4 get dual core while SGS3 had quad core one year before, most people doesn't know what is A9, A15 etc).

any as long as is not s4
is impossible to let samsung use exynos 5 dual on s4
since now already got quad core cortex a15 (snapdragon s4 pro)

Looking at the odd screen resolution it seems to be having onscreen buttons.. But am sure like you said it's not going to be s4. I would be happy if it's a nexus because samsung might make Exynos more open if nexus is powered by exynos

I'll bet you the cost of your phone that it's Qualcomm. There is no 1.5Ghz Exynos - it's either 1.2Ghz or 1.4Ghz. The same thing happened with TSGS2 when they didn't initially announce which chipset it had. In all cases, when a phone's been Exynos, they've said so in advance. But, as you've said, don't listen to me.

Honestly, what do you guys do with these phones that you NEED the BEST cpu speed and ram out there? Pr0n doesn't require much more than flash support. lol
Chances are they are using the same device as the Rogers LTE version which is the Galaxy S II LTE which is already out in Korean, that device is using a Qualcomm 1.5 DualCore Snapdragon just like the T-Mobile GSII The specs alone speak the world about it already.
Considering Samsung won't make multiple LTE versions you can rely in the specs that are already out there for the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE or the HD version of that one. In the end you have to look at what mobile processors are out there with that chipset speed. Considering the Eyxnos doesn't have a 1.5 Ghz variant the Qualcomm is a safe bet.

Except if you look at the Specs for the already out LTE versions it states those use a Qualcomm Chipset. They aren't going to change it up that much, you re-purpose what you have, don't create a whole new device just for one carrier.
If 99% of the specs match up to an already in production device, chances are the other 1% match up as well.

You are right, there was one announced, but it's too late for the LTE version of the GSII. Remember just because a device/processor is announced doesn't mean it's being put into production right away. Think about this, the 1.5 was announced on October 1st. AT&T wouldn't be pushing out a device with an untested processor right away. They need to test a device for MONTHS before doing that. Factor in the timeframe from announcement to putting into production, then you may have a month timeframe, not enough time for AT&T to test a device to their standards. The Exynos will NOT be in this device.
Samsung isn't going to make a custom GSII LTE just for AT&T they will use what they already have. All the specs match up to the current GSII LTE including processor speed, by that reasoning the device will be the same specs as such.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/01/samsung-releases-1-5ghz-exynos-processor-and-16mp-cmos-for-mobil/
Samsung's just announced the newest and fastest version of its Exynos mobile processor. The 4212 is a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 clocked to 1.5GHz, built using a 32mn process that makes it 30 percent more efficient and 25 percent faster than the 4210. Last year's model was capable of many impressive feats, but its 3D abilities were hampered by the limits imposed by its HDMI 1.3 controller. The new boy gets version 1.4 and hence the freedom to run stereoscopic imagery at an impressive 70fps. The chips will be available in Q4 of this year, but only to "select customers" who -- we guess -- look after Mr and Mrs. Samsung's cats over the holidays. The chip comes too late for the Galaxy S II LTE but we can expect to see it in future superphones before too long.

"select customers" - do you HONESTLY think that AT&T, the launch partner for Samsung's biggest competitor, and a carrier that has shown CLEAR favoritism towards Apple for the past few years, is considered a "select customer" by Samsung?
Hell, we're lucky we didn't get the crippled Tegra2 variant of the non-LTE GSII that was reserved for "third world" markets. Seriously - there was a LOT of worry that the I777 would have a Tegra2.

Also the only reference on att.com to the Skyrocket is in the press release that shows ANYTHING specwise. You guys interpreted what you read wrong, misleading information to others. Samsung announced their 1.5 exynos chip last month, that's all they did "ANNOUNCE". Where in the press release did they say its not ready or they still working at it? For all we know it could be on any of the upcoming phone including the skyrocket? Do you guys work for Samsung? Just because they Announce it last month that does not mean it has not been in production for months or in testing again for months. Who knows? again only "Samsung'' That been said I highly doubt is the exynos chip inside the skyrocket. As of yet it has not been confirm. I hope it is though

From the press release:
" Samsung’s new Exynos 4212 application processor will be sampling to select customers in Q4 2011. "
That means that selected customers (which ATT is probably not top tier) will get samples of the technology to start looking at in Q4. Even if ATT was lucky enough to get their hands on a sample on October 1st do you really think that they could have tested, customized, ordered and mass produced a brand new phone by Nov. 6th?
The same ATT that took over 6 months to bring the OG SGSII to market with very minor changes? The same ATT that still hasn't released Gingerbread for their version of the Galaxy S that has been available for over a year?
Don't have to work for Samsung for this one to add up.
Now is it impossible? NO. But winning the lottery and retiring tomorrow is not impossible either, but I am not holding my breath

SGS3 Coming 1st part of 2012 with its own launch event what ya gonna do?

So us AT&T guys and gals what will you do with your beloved SGS2 when the SGS3 arrives? I mean we are hearing 12 Mpx camera and quad core with possible 4.5 inch screen
well well, MWC is the announcement like I stated earlier.
http://www.bgr.com/2011/12/28/quad-core-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-to-be-unveiled-at-mwc-2012/
When is the SGS3 being released? My guess is not for quite a while since the GS2 is so popular with all the carriers. For me it doesn't matter as this phone is more than fast enough. And I judge fast by experiencing no lag when opening apps.
A multi core processor, like those in a desktop, really only make a difference in apps that can utilize all cores. I may be wrong but I'm guessing it might be a bit before most apps will.
Besides the SGS2 screen is about as big as I would go on a phone display. 4.5" is getting closer to a small tablet. Also for me, I rarely use the phone's camera for pictures that matter so it doesn't matter much for me.
Sorry, that was one downer of a post. I must still be bitter after my Broncos loss yesterday.

From an xda/dev community perspective i don't think it'll be affected to much. Look at the GSII predecessor, I9000/captivate. Those forums are still going strong with plenty of devs. The captivate already has Ics running pretty smoothly with CM9 alpha! By the time the GSIII comes out, our phones will have some amazing roms with little to no issues(we already have a few).

Sales of the GS2 are doing to well to warrant a release of a new model in February especially with the recent release of the skyrocket. The only speculation I've seen from any site is second half of next year. I doubt it will have quad core as well as they have much faster dual core up their sleeves. i think quad core is going to be overkill until they can milk the dual core architecture

1. The HTC Edge is the phone think youre refering to as the ville is reported to be a dual core. I have not seen anything suggesting that the Edge will come out sooner than End Q1/ Early Q2 which is why i jumped on the GS2
2. I thought the GS2 was initially released in April not February.
3. Im not familiar with android and its apps coding but ive have indeed done searching to see if it could actually take advantage of quad core. I found little info but what i did find suggested it that it currently doesnt really stress dual core phone enough to suggest much of an improvement jumping to quad core. Developers could probably shed light on this and i would love their feed back. Ive been meaning to make a thread on this.
4. You are right a quad core will beat a dual core but only in an enviornment that would take advantage of 4 threads. If these android device are not going to really use the 2 extra threads then mhz and cache are going tdo be the things to improve on. I dont want quad corw if its going drain the **** out of my battery for minimal peformance gains.
Samsung is claiming that thier 2ghz 5250 is twice as fast as their 1.5ghz dual A9 core offerings which sounds like more power than these phone are going to use. Unless these higher res screen are ggoing to make that big of an impact and thats really gpu side performance .
OP, you left out 2 crucial details- for one, how much will it run us/will ATT get in AND will they butcher it (like Skyrocket came to be) or not? I honestly feel we struck insane luck w/ GS2 being left mostly untouched and I don't forsee this happening again anytime soon.
well from what i have been told all Galaxy S phones will be left almost untouched from SGS2 forward. The agreement seems to be as long as its galaxy S it stays almost untouched. The captivate previous and skyrocket are variants not SGS therefore the mostly at&t differentiation. The SGS3 will follow like the SGS2, ps the Galaxy Nexus is coming to AT&T in February http://www.technobuffalo.com/companies/google/android/galaxy-nexus-coming-to-att-in-february/
Well hopefully they will figure out to get Exynos to work with the LTE chipsets.
im thinking that will be a definite, a matter of short time really

Samsung Galaxy SIII- 05/22 in London-Yes i will definitely stick with my awesome Note

Leak pics and introduce on 05/22/2012 of the SIII? I usually change new phones every quarter until i got the Galaxy Note. I will certainly stick with this untill Note 2 coming out just because of the screen. Anyone here have the same idea?
SIII Specs:
Quad-core processor – Exynos 4412 with ARM Mali-400 GPU
4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display
8MP rear-camera, 2MP front-camera (as suggested by a supposed image taken with the SGS3)
2GB RAM
4G/LTE
Ceramic Case
http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-release-date-photo-64212/
The screen will be the same?
But i agree... I will stick with the note as well. And i switch phones a lot too.
Kony 2012 is Propaganda.

I think that I need to calm my a$$ down when to comes to phones because I change alot as well. But this phone is defitnely my winner and the battery last me anough that I don't have to charge it fine times a day!!! Besides new phones come out every what two weeks? the s3 looks nice but just not as badass as this phone, I'm sure alot of us wouldn't of mind having this phone a lil slimmer lets leave it for the Samsung galaxy note 2

Wow, now those specs are awesome.. Just wish the camera was 12MP instead... But I def would cave in throw $300 @ that w/o a problem off bat. Might just completely hold out for this , the -.2" screen real estate wouldn't be missed coming from the Streak....
I feel like this is just a photoshop. Home button, power button on the opposite side? The home button especially. Doesn't fit in with the prospected worldwide launch, as I'm sure they would do away with the physical button for North America. To me the physical button in reminiscent of old smartphones. I'm certainly keeping my Note but if the s3 actually looks like this I won't be getting it as well. I have 3 upgrades to use this year lol but I'm not going to get a phone with a big clicky home button
Edit: This is definitely a photoshop. The volume buttons on the left are not shown from the side profile shot, showing the power and camera which would be on the wrong side.
I will pass not willing to give up on my 5.3 inch screen. Love my note.

Def getting the S3 when it becomes available, love the note just loved my beloved S2 more and miss it. Cant wait for the S3.
The leaked pics are BS.
Qualcomm doesn't have a quad-core chipset available yet.
Unless this runs on their 8960 chipset [that has an integrated LTE chipset] the performance of any S3 released before Q4 2012 would probably be very similar to the Note.
The leaked pictures are just mockups, and it's a good thing too. They wouldn't sell many with a phone that looked like that.
I, for one, won't be changing - I've been through three Android phones in the last year and finally found one that I love enough to keep for some time.
My wife, however, will be able to upgrade in August, and at that time I'm guess it will be curtains for the iPhone 4; I think she'd like the HTC One X but no one touches Samsung's screens right now, so it might be this one, if it's out by then.

If that's true (and they don't need to use Qualcomm) then scratch everything in my previous post.
That phone will blaze, undoubtedly, but I still don't foresee myself going back to a sub-5" screen again.
That first link is definitely a fake.
I'm pretty sure that was one of the concept pictures to the iPhone 5 that was all over YouTube before the 4S came out.

The S2 and the Note are already "valid" iPhone competitors.
The only thing apple has over any current android phone is a smooth OS, but that only lasts until the next major iOS update, at which point you're forced to get a new phone.
IMO, it's another bogus spec of SGS3
Whatever the s3 is I'm getting it.

this time i'm undecided
normally i'm jump right into the next best Samsung device without much of a though, but without knowing what's in the bag this time, i'm not as eager to get it
however if it's really a Quad core and runs on AWS 1700, then i'll sure hit it
the problem is there are no official quad core exyno CPU announced by Samsung
and Tegra 3 or Tegra 4 is a no go, nVidia doesn't like open source, so do not expect any updates for your Tegra devices
and the Qualcomm S4 / S5 quad core doesn't look like to be ready yet for this year, it's been relatively quiet in that front
So I don't know if you all got this, but for some reason I wasn't billed the upgrade fee for my galaxy note since you could only preorder the note on a contract and not without one. If I am able top do this with the s3 I will probably sell the s3 and wait for CEA 2013 to roll around the corner.

I just bought an AT&T Note today from XDA but I'll be really tempted to switch to a SGS3 if it comes with Samsung Quad-Core & LTE. If I'm able to control myself, I'll wait to see if what Note 2 comes with.

When Will The Galaxy Note 2 Come To AT&T?

Anyone know when this phone will come to ATT?
I think this will be the best phone to end the year and start off the year for Sammy.. Anyone think the GS 3 is still the flagship ? cause I think this is the best phone now.:good: thoughts and opinions Plss

It has only just been announced and on blogs they're saying sometime in q4. But specifically for AT&T, no one knows.

Mid October likely. But I could care less. I'm quite content with the performance of the current Note, we have a well established and thriving dev community, and the current screen is better than the new one. And I have a GNex arriving tomorrow. I'll be good on phones until either the next nexus, the next galaxy s, or the next note.

Do you know if they will be releasing the north american version with the quad core since its compatible with Lte now?.
not feeling the 16:9
Some time next year. We usually get android devices in the U. S. a few months after the International version has been released.

Honestly, we don't know anything about the AT&T version. We can only speculate based on what we gather from IFA2012. So it'll actually be quite some months until we hear anything that might be truthful.
I hope people don't start with the: "I know a rep from AT&T and they said...."
The only Quadcore processor that can run with LTE is the Snapdragon S4 Pro currently. I'm thinking the US variants will have the Dual core snapdragon s4 like the GS3 and HOX but clocked at 1.6mhz. But if it does get the SD S4 Pro quad...it will fly!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
[Lady]: "How do you carry that huge phone in your pocket?"
[Note User]: "I'm used to having huge stuff in my pants"
(My Guess)
Mid 1st quarter, 2013.....
AT$T will ride the GS3 bandwagon as long as possible..including the Chiristmas holiday season, as sales for the GS3 are far from over....IMHO
they dont want two flagship devices running at the same time. the back to back approach is common for them....g

Even though the GNex is already a year old almost I think it's a great phone with JellyBean and ONLY with JellyBean because I saw a lot of lag when using my friends phone (which has the original software on it).

Didn't the guy in the video post specs and it said the quad core exynos will support LTE (in selected markets that have the connectivity?).. i'm hoping it will have LTE connectivity. But battery ahhh it will destroy any battery even if it's 3,100 mAh...... *sigh*

I've played with the Verizon version on ICS and it's still buttery. Your friend probably had something else causing the lag. And you think I would really stay stock? Haha. I'm excited to get it. It will still get the next version of Android no doubt, and by them I'll be ready to buy another phone anyways. The nexus is for me too get into developing as well...just figured it would be best to go nexus for that. My note and nexus will last me plenty good.

His GNEX had virtually no apps except maybe 2-3 i saw on his one home page (yeah weird right? LOL)... the transition going from main street to the app tray was a bit laggy and scrolling through menus was a bit choppy too. maybe he had the original firmware on it therefore it wasnt updated to the latest ICS builds.
I'm still thinking about a Nexus with JellyBean. Seems to be pretty futureproof with project butter in place.
You wouldn't be disappointed. Just received mine yesterday, and I have no desire really to flash anything custom. JB on the nexus is simply amazing.

Who plans to upgrade to the Snapdragon 800 version when it comes out

I have been reading about a new model of the S4 going through testing based on the Lte A model.I really like my S4 but it seems like the all of the new generation phones are going to be Snapdragon 800 based.I don't think there will be much difference in day to day use and will be more about bragging rights of who has the fasted phone.
My current S4 could last me for a few years no problem but I have become a sucker for newest phone out.I am not really sure why since I am typing this on a pc with the first version of the core I7 920 and have never seen a need to upgrade to a faster processor.
No I think this phone will handle all I can throw at it. 32g model rooted I'm extremely happy overall. My battery life is great. Know what ya mean about latest and greatest though.

The Lte A version is, but there are a few other model numbers showing up that seen destined to other markets.I really don't see Samsung sitting back and letting LG put out a 800 powered phone as their new phone is rumored to have as well as Sony's rumored 800 based phone.Their own Note 3 is sure to have it as well.
I really can't see them not putting out a updated S4 since the 600 will be considered a previous generation processor once everyone goes to the 800.I also don't see them waiting for the S5 to do this.

Well I certainly can. They didn't release a S4 Pro version of the GS3 when that became the newest thing.

exactly. the snapdragon s4 pro quad core was out, and the quad core exynos s3 was out, but the s3 was still the dual core s4. they're not going to release this phone here just for a slightly upgraded processor. that would be a stupid business move.

Happy with my S4 32gb as is- even without root, but want root to stop updates and kill da' bloat.
Running smooth and fast here with my 16GB quad core.
Don't care about such a minimal upgrade for a phone that costs as much as they do. Just be happy you have the best phone on the market.

Processor upgrades are a fraud! I have a Core I7 920 also and, thanks to arthritis, I'm typing slower than I did on my 386DX25!
I've become comfortable with the on screen keyboards but still the fastest keyboards I've used on a phone are Blackberrys and I'm still trying to figure why my BB 8330, a totally obsolete 3g only phone, takes better pictures with it's 2 megapixel camera than any phone I've owned since, including the Galaxy S3 and S4?
Some days I think if I could live with the small screen I'd reactivate it, sell the later Android phones and blow the money on beer and cheap hookers.....
