SCH-R760 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit:
How to root:
I followed the directions in this thread.
http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/topi...2Bstock++tar
Except for the stock kernel I used the FF24 one. I uploaded to here:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/usnhbh2n9ksj08s/VMAJKof_-C
This will get you root, but stay mostly stock.
Well I have a Generic Samsung Galaxy S2
Model: SCH-R760
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband: S:R760.01 K.FF24
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-SCH-R760.XARFF24-CL1125314 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.XARFF24
I am looking for how to obtain root only. I believe this can only happen by flashing another Kernel, in which case I would like to know how to back up my current Kernel.
Any help with this would be great. I know source is available from Samsung, but I have not learned how to build from source yet.
Thanks,
Ralph McDade

BUMP Me too, exact model. Am wanting to root. Any one with any info on how?

to root it looks like you are going to have to flash another kernel. If you have US cellular there are backups and rooted kernels. If you are on another carrier, you can flash the us cellular kernel and then reprogram the phone for your carrier. The problem with this is depending on what kernel you are on, you may not be able to go back to stock.
I am working on contacting Samsung to see if I can get the stock software that is currently in my phone. I will keep you posted.

No, It's not a US Cellular phone

I understand that, mine isn't either. But it looks like we can use the kernel from the US cellular that has been rooted. Or wait till a one-click root comes out for 2.3.6. Which maybe never due to work being done for newer android phones. Sorry, who is your carrier. If we can find the stock Kernel we could modify it. Problem is Samsung has not release it, only the source.
Mine is [email protected] #2

My carrier is a local company called Pioneer Cellular. All of my stats (kernel, build etc) match yours exactly
---------- Post added at 07:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:25 PM ----------
Is there a way to pull the kernel from the phone using odin?

I will let you know what I figure out. I am going to get in touch with my provider and see if they can provide the software. I doubt it though.
I have tried all of the one click solution none have worked.

I may be able to get the latest stock kernel ACG uses. Let me see what I can find.

Any word yet on a way to root this puppy? I got one from MobileNation, a small regional carrier in western tennessee/western ky, and would like to root and try to get an ICS rom working on it.

Yes, we have successfully rooted. Follow the instructions in the following post. If you are on FF24 instead of FF18 then download the stock FF24 from page 2 in the same thread (post # 25 by mcdader) instead of in step 3.

Or follow the instructions in THIS post. They are the same as the ones above but with an FF24 link added to step 3.

Hey guys, I have got a generic CDMA sch-r760 and am looking to flash a custom kernel with cwm included. Any ideas where I can find one? Haven't had much luck okn finding mods for this. Can't get cwm to flash through ROM manager due to the model. I managed to root but am now looking for ROMs and kernels. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

sch-r760 rooted, use on other cdma services?
So i have my us cellular galaxy s2 phone rooted with some app exnos abuse or something like that. What i am wondering is if there is some way to get this phone to work with other cdma services such as verizon, verizon prepaid, straight talk, or even U-Prepaid( i guess this is us cellular, but they wont let you use a us cellular contract phone... Say what!?) Just so we are all on the same page, i am very much a noob when it comes it flashes and kernals. I used to toy around with flashing basic verison phones so that they would run java apps, but thats about it(lg phones turned into super nintendo).
I have searched around, but the only thread i found asking this same thing had no solution and a bunch of ppl complaining how it was on the wrong forum. So i thought i could post here? I hope nobody minds overly much.
Anyway, if this is possible i would love to hear from someone maybe get me pointed in the right direction.
I aslo read that verizon will not add meid numbers to their database. Do you think it would be possible to take the ein and meid of a verizon basic phone and put them on my device? Would i be able to get 3g if i did ths or do you think they would view ot as a basic phone on verizon's zide?

For the MEID swap NO. It's basically your phones fingerprint, assigned to that device built in to the hardware . Although you could clone another phone if its the same, but that is a felony. So I wouldn't try it. But flashing to another carrier, would require the stock files for that particular device. I.e if ur going from say Alltel phone to USSC you could flash USSC stock file to your phone. But it would basically have to be the same model GS2>GS2 and hardware.etc

What so to clone the meid of one device i own to another device i own is a felony? I bet that freakin FCC is behind this!
That aside, i've seen people talking about scripts that allow a user to install a newer android version from a similar device on another network, then the script edits the back to be able to use uscc, is there any way i can manually edit these settings so that i can connect to another network? I'm sure i can convince someone at straight talk to add my meid to their cdma service if their towers see my device. What with that new thing they offer send u a sim card for any gsm phone. Can anyone point me in the right dicection on switching carriers this way?
Uhg sometimes text entry gets so glitchy on this thing, makes it hard to go back and chamge aomething when my curser is out of place five characters, this is my excuse for any the spwllig issues.

[Q] Atrix Version OLYLA_U4_0.50.0

Hey,
I'm from Brazil and I just got an Atrix from a local operator.
The version is that one from the title.
I was just wondering if i can flash any other sbf (so I can eventually flash a gingerblur or something like that).
Thanks!
Second it, since I would probably be getting the same version (I'm from Argentina), Were you able to get root access?
i'll try it right now..
i just got the phone yesterday!!!
I'll post the results...
Can't root with superoneclick
it do not accept the OLYFR_U4_1.26 spf...
i think, by now, i'm stuck!!
Try the GladRoot script... not super 1 click... by all accounts the Atrix dev teams think that's a bad solution. That's a different fw version than the bell or at&t, so it still may not work.
Bump, did it work?
you can't flash a sbf from another carrier. if you did, you just lost your phone for being impatient and not reading the forums.
If these versions are so different and carried by others might the bootloaders be unlocked or are these operators from south america subsidiaries of att?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Strange...that version string is similar to the Canadian Bell Atrix (OLYLA_U4_0.37.4).
another no go... this time with GladRoot v4
psneuter failed
anyone, any sugestions?

I know it would problably not work... I read about it...
but that's ok.. the phone just wont accept it, but it does before changing anything... so everything still works just as I bought it!
I can return it to the store if something goes whrong within 7 days... so that's why i'm not worried if something gets broken!
Chances are this version has all the current root methods patched, and will not be able to be rooted. I'd need a device to play around with to know for sure.
Perhaps the rest of the international versions are the same? what about the korean, or the Uk version?

It's very likely this is the case as well. Again, without a device in front of me to test with it's hard to say. If someone wants to post a dump of the device I can look at that as well.

Hi,
I've created a dump using the information provided at the modaco link above. As I never did it before, I don't know if it's correct. I used the following command "busybox tar cvf dump.tar /system". Here is the link:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/820080431/OLYLA_U4_0.50.0.tar.7z
When I tried to flash SBF 1.5.2 I got the following message (at phone): "sec_exception: febe, 35, 35" (or something like that). I'll be happy to provide more information if needed.
Cheers,
Thiago Souza
Root for this SBF
Follow the guide in my signature. This should work for all future SBFs
BTW, I would update to the Telstra one which is leaps ahead of the SBF you guys have gotten.
Whats the diference between ours and the telestra?
Many improvments?
Under the telestra one can we flash custom sbfs?
Tks

Questions about International SGII

I've made up my mind and will be getting a SGS2 as my iPhone 4S replacement. I'm trying to decide between the international or AT&T version.
Reasons I want international:
- No bloatware
- Tethering enabled
- Unlocked when I travel
- Faster updates on current OS and when ICS is available. (Question, since I will be using the phone on AT&T will this interfere with the international updates...I've heard they are faster. How will I be able to update when they are available?)
- I like the physical home button.
My other issues are: I found the thread (different website) with correct APN settings so I'm good there. Will I have full access to the market?
BIG thing I want to get figured out: Can I root this phone? I haven't been able to find any guides for use with a Mac.
Sorry for the long post but appreciate the help and do you guys have any other suggestions.
I'd go with the international. I like the design better and the home button. Of course, I'm still waiting for mine to come which should be around monday. But in general, its the same as the AT&T version. I got the white one so its extra special and sexy =)
And there has to be a way to root on Mac, I'm sure just finding a Mac version of ODIN would allow everything. Theres way too many people with android and mac that there wouldn't be a way.

Rooting with a Mac is simple. An easy way you could root is to install Heimdall onto your mac and flash any of the custom kernels that have an auto-root feature like speedmod or Siyah kernel.

hmmm looking at the latest version of heimdall 1.3.1. Completely different than the previous versions and actually looks like ODIN simple.
From what I'm seeing, you can put any firmware packages .tar, .tz etc...in the heimdall firmware package...or maybe i should be saying kernel and then just flash it like that.
No more individual flashing and the pain in the ass method it used to have.
Im probably gonna need to learn this since i only have a mac up here in college -.- my white i9100 should be here monday.

Dev will be slow at first so if this is a first android for anyone, be patient and help however you can. We don't have a device so no CWM or custom kernels yet. Once we do things will start rolling.

First android noob here. Will have mine Friday. What can be done to help? Or just keep an eye out for talented devs on these boards and do whatever they say?
This isn't development - when a dump actually takes place, a thread can be placed in Development, not before.

Unfortunatly, I didn't have any luck with this method.
I installed adb drivers from the windows version of Samsung Kies. (You can download it here)

Tried with Superoneclick as well and same no luck.

Don't post system dumps from other carriers/countries in AT&T Note forum. Despite what you think - it's not the same. It may have the same hardware, but software wise those are very different firmwares and attempting to flash cooked roms from another carrier "will* cause problems.
- Telus version has worknig NFC, AT&T Note has it disabled in the firmware
- LTE has 16 bands and the ones, used and enabled from Telus are not the same as the AT&T version
- AT&T Note has embedded software configuration settings for voice GSM, data HSPA+, LTE networks, voicemail, etc'. All those are very different from Telus and there is no telling how easy it'd be to manually restore all those AT&T settings to assure fully functional operation of all radios
- AT&T Note has a lot of bloatware, Telus has less and different stuff
- Each carriers has customized their firmware according to their security needs. Protection may not be the same, and bootloader & radios firmwares may not be the same on AT&T and Telus.
List goes on. It's a bad idea to post here system dump from another carrier & country.
That doesn't mean the Telus dump won't be useful, and despite the AT&T in the title of the forum, this is also the forum for his device (forum name should really be I717, imo). Go ahead and post the dump if you can; just make sure it's clear that it's a Telus and not an AT&T dump.

Well not really. The system dump will definitely help with development of the ATT Note. Im was running Rogers based roms on both of my skyrockets. No ATT bloat and NFC enabled. Having the system dump will help devs build a compatible rom for the ATT note as well. And pretty much everything you listed as being different was built into the roms I had on both skyrockets. Only thing that had to be done was APN settings

[Q] Atrix 4G MB860 SKT Version

Hi All,
First of all I would like to thank everyone at XDA who has invested their lives to make our phones look and work better day by day...
I am very confused right now and have been searching the whole internet for three weeks now but didn't got any solution as yet.
I have got a Motorola Atrix 4G from Korea that has the following information:
Model : MB860
S/W Version : 4.5.2A- SKT-167
Android Version : 2.3.5
Kernel Version : 2.6.32.9- 00004-gfbc 746e
My problem is that the stock rom currently installed is flooded with Korean language. I want to put a pure english stock rom into my Atrix that has all the stock options enabled. Which rom is suitable for this purpose and also as Korean SKT version doesn't have SBF files over the internet, therefore how can I restore to stock if things went into the wrong direction. BTW I have already rooted my phone.
While searching, found some files at "main.develoid.com:81/%40%20MOTOROLA/Atrix/" that I am not sure helpful for any thing or not.
Thanks in advance for all your help and support.

Thanks for ur reply but I am already aware of this fact that my Atrix is not from any of these two i.e. ATT or Bell. My phone is from Korea and is from SK Telecom South Korea. It is a MB860 with SKT software version.
The SKT is the version of the rom. There are only 2 atrix models: ATT and Bell. It doesnt matter where are you from, my Atrix is Bell and we dont even have it in Brazil...

I am not sure as if this has something to do but I considered it worth sharing...

Please remember that questions go in the Q&A section.
Contrary to what was posted earlier, there are three Atrix models (MB860, MB861, and ME860). But you seem to know which one you have already. Also, never flash an SBF unless you have no other choice.
Did you try going to Settings, Language & keyboard, Select locale and see if you can choose English? Might not work because I think that is the Korean GB235 software.
Is the device rooted with an unlocked bootloader? If so, you should be able to flash a AT&T stock fruit cake.

Thanks for your reply. My apologies for posting into the wrong section.
Right now my phone is rooted but not unlocked yet. I wanted to be safe before I can actually modify it. Least I could have a restore point to return. Thats why asking the experts for an advice.
My only issue is not the language but most of english characters are shown wrong whenever I receive a SMS. Can only have caller ID for SMS (contact numbers with +) or for the call (removing the + sign from all contact numbers). Can only send SMS with 80 characters otherwise it is converted into a MMS.
Instead of solving all these issues one by one, I believe installing a stock english rom would solve my problem. The only problem is that I am not sure which ROM can I use and what can I do if I end up into a soft brick phone.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into my problem.

Text information will probably never display properly with the Korean OS. Probably a combination of language and carrier differences.
Flashing an English ROM will solve your problems. Be sure to follow instructions for unlocking the bootloader for the Korean Atrix in the dev section. You can install any custom ROM. You can also install a stock ROM, but may have to make changes to locale and APN settings - no biggie.

This is where I get lost ((((((((((
I have apmel experience of flashing my old HD2. I even did it with my eyes closed. Thanks to XDA for the load of development and user training.
Atrix is a little complex (or maybe I am more cautioned). Which stock english rom will work for me? I have also read within the forum that Korean Atrix can take Telstra Stock ROM but still I am not sure about it.

Just to be clear, when I say stock ROM I mean a fruit cake. Some associate stock with sbf. As I said before, never flash an sbf (OK, only once when unlocking your bootloader). I recommend flashing this fruit cake to get you started. If you are not on AT&T, look here for changing your APN. But the very next step you take will be to unlock your bootloader. Worry about the rest later.
Thx for everything
I will unlock the bootloader tomorrow.
For the ROM, are u advising me to flash stock ATT fruitcake. Would ATT software be compatible with my phone's hardware?
Plz accept my apologies for bring unnecessarily demanding but I am very cautioned about flashing my Atrix mainly as it lacks support from Motorola.
Thanks again...

Can I use the fruit cakes given within this link:
"forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1163009"
Also right now I am on GB 2.3.5 and if I go for ATT GB 2.3.6 fruit cake, can I downgrade to 2.3.5 with my stock backup? What I have understood during all my search is that Atrix could get hard bricked if downgraded. Please advice.

make sure you make a CWM backup of your rom first and put it in dropbox/mediafire

Yes, AT&T fruit cakes will be compatible You can flash any fruit cake you want, you will just need to makes the changes I posted earlier.
The one thing I forgot to mention before: depending on your country and carrier, you may need to flash a different radio. Those are available at the Atrix Reboot Project.
Once your bootloader is unlocked you can flash or restore anything want. Your phone will be free!

Yep this is the only workaround I have to go stock if something went off the plan
Thanks for the tip though.

Many thanks
I will start off with flashing process tomorrow and will post the results accordingly.
Finally I did it
I have unlocked the bootloader and complete backup of my phone with CWM and ROM Factory.
CWM has given me a folder full of 6 files and ROM Factory has given me a .zip file and a folder workdir.
I believe now I am on the safe side to flash custom ROMs.
People like me can head to this post that I have followed to do things forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
Many thanks upndwn4par for the sincere help.
Moreover I would also like to thank all the developers working hard to make our phones what they are really today... Really appreciated :good:
Please advise if my backup is accurate. Also direct me to the place where can I drop these files to help other users with a similar phone.

Backup strategy is correct. The fruit cake won't work as is. Upload workdir or the zip to the Atrix Reboot Project and I'll fix it and put it back.
Edit: You can also post a dropbox link. Whatever works.
Edit 2:
Forgot to say congrats on unlocking your bootloader!
Also, could you post a link here?

[Q] NOOB ALERT! Need help with SGH-i777

Alright, I've read LOTS and LOTS of stuff on here and I've searched and I think I know the answer, but I'm not sure how to implement said answer.
My quick and dirty question is this....
Are there any members here who are fluent with the NV.bin/bak EFS side of the terminal emulator in the Napa, CA area that would care to help me resolve my issue?
Now that that's done...
SGH-i777
CyanogenMod Version
10-20121207-NIGHTLY-i777
Build Number
cm_i777-userdebug 4.1.2 JZO54K eng.
Kernel Version
3.0.15-CM-gf76e4eb
I can't get my SIM card to read. I think the EFS/NV files are corrupt. I've tried editing with the terminal emulator but it doesn't like to play nice either.
If you need more info just ask.
Thank you all in advance and thanks especially to the folks that do the work to make this site available to the noobs like me.... now to go back to more searching, reading, getting confused...
DM
P.S. I don't have any APN's, nor IMEI's, nor any other settings configured. I think they got lost/corrupted on one of the many reloads/reboots/return to stock/kernel/flash adventures. I know the SIM card works in other phones as I have put it into a few others and it pulled like it was supposed to. I've called AT&T and have gotten the unlock code to put into my phone, but I've never gotten to the screen to input said number. I've also tried S2 Unlock from Helroz, S2 Repair, Loaded JellyBean, Gingerbread, GAPPS, Siyah kernels, KToonez and Task650 stuff... I wish this was a PC so I could take the HD out and blank it and start from scratch.
Well damn.... 60 views and no one in the area...
I guess I'm going to have to dig into this thing and hope not to break it. One last thing before I do that...
Anyone in the East Bay area? Sayyyyyy... between Napa, CA and Livermore, CA that does this stuff on a regular basis?
ugh... hate having to figure stuff out when you are on a time limit to get it working.
DM
hmmm... so I'm still reading and learning but not gaining any ground...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20229527&postcount=46
I've gotten the phone back over to 2.3.4 with kernel version 2.6.35.7
Build Number UnOriginal v1.4.6 Minimalist Edition.
I'm really trying to get the phone back to stock with the NV/EFS files restored properly.
I'm pulling down a few of the listed roms/kernels and am going to try and get those installed to see if I can get the IMEI and other settings to come up.
Wish me luck... and if you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to post em.
DM
Just ran the Odin3 to put the StockKernel-PDA.tar onto the phone. It loaded and rebooted. Still no IMEI or baseband.
Back to Odin with Current Binary: Samsung Official showing on the downloading prompt...
Pushed this UCKH7_MODEM.tar via Odin to the phone but still no baseband, IMEI, etc...
Did u go back to complete stock uckh7 ?? And still a no go ??

You won't be getting your IMEI back by flashing roms and kernels and modems. You need a backup of your EFS folder, which I assume you don't have. You're pretty much screwed for the most part unless you can get AT&T to replace the device or repair the IMEI for you.

Mobiletechvideos can repair your IMEI. You will need one of those types of services.

Thanx for the reply guys... I THINK I have a backup of the EFS. I can see some of the folders on the phone. I just don't know if the backup is before or after it was corrupted. I found some files with the mod'd dates being in 2011 and such and so I'm pretty sure those are the build dates for them and should be ones I can work with. I've tried to get the Hex Editor part the Solid Explorer... other things....
I did revert it back to a stock rom.
Android Version 2.3.4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7
UnOriginal v1.4.6 ME
Is what I'm currently at.
Thanx for the feedback guys.... And Red, I'm afraid that's where I'm at as well, but I would like to know myself how to fix things. I'm just that way.
I hate having other folks do stuff that I can do if I can just figure out how to get it done.
But... maybe it's not for me to figure out.
Thanx again...
DM
I'm fairly certain it's a very technical procedure. But maybe if you contacted them they could walk you through it? I dunno really, good luck my friend.
