[Q] Sim unlock question - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My question is why there is no software that can sim unlock xperia x10, i mean access has been obtained to the bootloader and everything inside, i dont understand why there is no method to sim unlock this cellphone, other android cellphones that are succesfully rooted and hacked their bootloader are super easy to sim unlock just one button press like samsung galaxy so my question is why cant they acess the area where the lock is stored and erase it or replace it with an unlocked register, im really interested in this info, if someone answers me or points me in the right direction it would be really appreciated, im pretty sure there is no method and i want to create one, probably imposibly difficult but i want to try.

I dont have a technical answer to why its not possible but yes the answe is no. Theres no possible way to sim unlock your phone.
Galaxy phone capable of being unlocked already have the unlock code hidden in some file which we dont have.

My phone is rooted and I ran unlock app the code wouldn't unlock phone
Do I use unfreeze code then try unlock code again
Any help would be much appreciated
Have trolled through the forums point me to a link

If you are rooted, use Galaxy_S Unlock from the market.
[root] SGS2 SIM unlock code finder
Or you can use Chainfire's unlock code apk.
I have and the code won't unlock from O2
That is why I'm asking if you only get so many chances
Three normally

Just a noob who's trying to understand as much as possible before actually doing anything to their new toy.
Reading other threads on this subject suggests that NONE of the routes to unlock documented on this forum (whether via an app or manually using odia's method) will work UNLESS you have hardware version 1.2.
You can find your hardware version by typing *#2222# into the dialler.
My phone is H/W version 1.4 - does this mean there's no way I can unlock it right now without buying an unlock code off the carrier?
Any way to check this on the phone and can it be reset to zero?

I'm curious to know what hardware version you have. Just type *#2222# into the dialler & report back what you see on the screen.
READ FTA HW VERSION
FTA HW VERSION : REV1.4
Hope this helps
Ive also given phone to a "SHOP" to have it unlocked
they couldn't get it unlocked either - this was going to be at a cost £20 - obviously i didnt have to pay
So im pretty sure that more than 3 attempts have been made to unlock phone - all i want to know is can you reset the "attempt counter"

There'll be an unfreeze code you can enter for that but if the methods used here can't find the unlock code, then they almost certainly can't find the unfreeze code either. For H/W v. 1.4, I believe Samsung have salted the encryption of the unlock & unfreeze codes stored in nv_data.bin, so any attempt at unlock based on odia's method will fail.
Hopefully one of the more experienced members will come along soon and help us noob's out, even if it's only to confirm that there's no way of unlocking our phones without paying the carrier for the code.
Phone unlocked :- ran app got unfreeze code put that in shut down phone removed battery(dont think this is necessary) restarted phone then put in unlock code SUCCESS phone now unlocked and all appears to be well.
Just going to thank author of post
MODS ok to close Thread I'm sorted
Thanks to all

This worked for me too and I had tried every other method going. my phone was locked to orange and was rev 1.4
I also have HW 1.4.
But I'm not confidence with Helroz method.
I've heard that is different from IMEI method, and I prefer to do it like "buying imei unlock method"
So, is there any option to get unlock code for HW 1.4 ? May be unfreze also ?
I will put manually when the SGS2 asks for it.

Xperia S hard locked

My Xperia S gets Hard Locked as My Bro enters Wrong Network unlock code so many times...anyone help me i also purchase an unlock code for it but it doesnt work it says "couldnt unlock network"...HELP ME PLEASE:crying::crying::crying:
I'm not really sure as it has never happened to me, but I just found a thread on the Arc S forum where someone has the same problem. What they suggest is that, is your bootloader can be unlocked, then you can do that and that way it will not be hardlocked anymore. However... if you needed to use an unlock code in the first place, then you probably can't. In that case, i think you're out of look, sorry .

please help with unlocking (i got it as a gift)

I bought an atrix 4g mb860 with the lapdock locked to at&t.. latest android version 2.3.6..
I live in egypt..
first I called at&t asked for the unlock code, they gave it to me.
didnt work the unsuccessful
then i called again to make sure of the code but unfortunately they gave me the same code. they suggested i would call motorola
i called motorola they guided me to make a factory reset but did not solve the problem.
i unlocked the phone root
instal cwm
flashed diff radios
didnt help
flashed back 2.3.4
nothing yet
tried diff radios again
tried CM7.2
nothing worked
finaly i sent it to a repair shop
they said they were unable to unlock it.
now i do not know what to do????
i was thinking maybe doing advanced hacking to the software may help.
or eveeen changing the motherboard.. i thought of going to motorola asking them to replace the motherboard for me...
i want to know where does this ****en lock code is.. it is like a ghost i replaces software and boot loader where is that memory that hold the lock code and make it functionable on every software...
You're trying to sim unlock your phone, right? It's not a bootloader unlocking, i guess...
yes
Yeah, I'm not sure where the SIM lock code is either, but it is definitely not within the bootloader or boot or the ROM area. I think it might not be user-accessible at all. It's not like on Samsungs where you modify a file and that makes it unlocked.

I believe this is correct, I doubt it's in user accessible files. I'm no expert but if I had to guess it would be built into the firmware or a separate; small chip for storage that is inaccessible. It is only accessible via kernel probably, so it's very low level. Just a guess.
EDIT:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock#Unlocking_technology Here is a decent read if anyone is interested.
anyyy ideas for solving this problem... other than throwing the device in the recycling bin

why do u always think i didnt search? maybe for u it's easy to find but i cant find nothing about this. maybe u dont understand the question?
Unlocking sim has nothing to do with root. It's part of sim management, if you provide a correct code calculated with imei number and your phone provider it just unlock the sim card.
You have generally a hidden menu that doesn't need root to be able to enter the unlock code.
You can bypass this on s3 with some apk that need root.

Bootloader not allowed

Okay, so I'm guessing this is a question that gets asked a lot, but honestly I couldn't really find a definite answer, so i figured I'd just ask.
I recently got an XZ1. The Model number in the service menu is G8341, if that matters. And in the configuration tab, it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: No". I'm guessing this is a block that Sony put on there for whatever reason. Is there any way at all to circumvent/fix this and unlock the bootloader anyway so I can root my device and install a different ROM? Cause if not, I'm gonna send it back.
Thanks in advance.
I think it's not worth rummaging in the phone system. The consequences can be deplorable and the benefit is small. That's why I advise you not to change anything. Not worth it.

If it says 'unlock allowed: no' its not possible to unlock the bootloader. Is it a carrier branded phone?

Bootlock allowed=No phones are contract phones from providers. They don't want the hassle of "waa, I unlocked my phone and now it's broke" so they just disable it.
There is no way round it.
