[Q] Rooted Sam.10.1 Tablet (non-Rom) can't install official ICS update without error. - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My tablet is rooted, but I never bothered with ROMS in the past. I received notice there was a firmware update.
"The update package was successfully received. During install procedure...etc,etc... Backup data and visit samsung website. Install Now?"
When I click the install button, it force closes with an error message:
"The application software update (process com. wssyncmldm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
Is this being caused because the tablet is rooted? Is there a way for me to get the official update to work without having to install a ROM through CWM?
Tablet specs:
Model Number: GT-P7510
Android version 3.2
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.3
[email protected] #1
Build number: HTJ85B.UEKMP P7510UEKMP
I'm currently at work and do not have a way to connect the tablet to a computer so I'm hoping I can get this done through the normal channel.
Thank you for your time and any help you can provide.

Did you take a Nandroid backup of your unrooted device before rooting it? If so you should be able to just back up your current data, then restore your Nandroid, and run the update.
If you don't have a backup, you'd likely have to flash the stock firmware for your device with Odin (go to Sammobile.com to get it). That will remove root. Then the OTA should be fine. While I don't think just being rooted may necessarily prevent an OTA, it is also likely that it may. Back up your data before you flash of course.

I'm pretty sure, from what I've read, that a rooted device won't update (but not 100% sure).
You can flash to the official version with Odin which would remove root.
Guessing you're trying to update from HC to ICS?
If so, download the official version from Sammobile, flash it with Odin.
I think it's also highly recommended to do a factory reset after you flash, and then do the wipe data options.
This assures you are back to factory stock.
Last time I did it I flashed back from rooted ICS to HC 3.2, flashed ICS, and did the reset/wipes three times each. Then rooted again.
I followed a guide posted here, and all went well.
If Samsung gives us another update for the Tab 10.1, be it for bug fixes or for Jelly Bean, I'm pretty sure I'd have to re-flash the stock ICS do the wipes etc. in order to update again.
Here's the guide I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971

u will brick ur tab if u update officially after rooting ....Odin back to stock and try updating ......and to say frankly honeycomb was far better and had good battery backup than ics

Why dont you just Install ICS from SamFirmware or something...
Is it necessary to update your tab from Official Samsung Server?
If you want to upgrade from samsung badly
unroot your tab
do factory reset and just clean everything and then it might be installed without error idk...

you will need to be on an unrooted stock rom and recovery to receive the official update. is this the verizon version?

[Q] Software Updates not supported

Hi guys
I have the following problem
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII
I rooted my phone and now i heard that android 4.0 will come soon
so i wanted to restore my phone and get original firmware again
at this time i had litening rom 6.1 on my phone
then i restored a backup with clockworkmod recovery to a state before installing this firmware
then i unrooted my phone with SuperOneClick 1.9.1 and flashed the original KF4 kernel
These steps went very well and now here is my problem:
I'm not able to get firmware updates via kies any more
Kies doesn't search for updates, because it says, that my phone doesn't support updates via kies
Hope somebody can help me
Sorry ,I also have the problem
Find the stock firmware for your carrier in here or stock firmware for your country in here & flash that.
A clean flash of stock (as opposed to using a backup as you did) should enable you to use Kies to get official firmware updates.

Thank you for the info.. I will try out later
The other thing is, Did you screw around with and change your CSC? I believe it may have an impact on Kies updates as you are trying to update a phone with the wrong firmware and country code...
Could be wrong, had a couple to drink tonight and everythings a little fuzzy...

Cannot upgrade to ics official

I have searched and searched and cannot find a solution. Here is my problem. I bought a note 2 weeks ago. I updated to ICS through kies. At the very end of the update my pc had a blue screen of death and reset on me. The update seemed to take though as I was on ICS when I checked my android version. So I proceeded to install cmw and root my phone. I had been noticing some issues regarding uninstalling downloaded apps. I decided to connect to kies again and lo and behold I received a message saying that the update had not completed and I needed to do an emergency firmware recovery. Well, since my phone was rooted kies wouldnt do it. So, instead I decided to try to install official ICS (I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_I717UCLF6_HOME.tar.md5) through odin. It fails every time. It goes all the way to the end and fails on (write).
I decided to take my note back to stock GB and see if that may help. I got it back to stock using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330 and on download mode it showed custom binary: yes and current binary:custom also the flash counter read 4. I am however back to GB. I tried kies and it still says that my phone cant be upgraded through kies. This is what it says under current firmware version: PDA:LA1 / PHONE:LF6 / CFC:LF6 (ATT).
Next I tried installing cmw on the stock build and resetting the flash counter in hopes that kies would then be able to upgrade. Since doing that download mode now shows custom binary: no current binary: official samsung and no flash counter. However, I am still unable to upgrade through kies (still says my device cannot be upgraded through kies) or the flashable odin tar (I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_I717UCLF6_HOME.tar.md5) still fails at the end when it has to write.
I just want official ics on my phone. I really hope someone can help me. I am very sorry if this has been answered, I hope you can see that I have done some searching and exhausted any options that I have found. Thank you in advance.

Thx for your response. I did see that thread and gave the kies suggestion a go earlier, however kies kept crashing.
At this point i may just flash a custom rom. Any suggestions? Looking for something ics with touchwiz.
Just wanted to provide a little more info. I am at&t. Also, in the thread i refernced with the stock gb tar there is also a few other files underneath. Stock kernel only odin tars, one of which is for at&t. I did not install that. Also, cwm is still installed on the phone. Can that be whats causing kies to reject the device?
Looks like you have the GB rom and ICS radio and that's why Keis is not recognizing your rom. Flash the stock GB radio from the dev section and Keis should update. If not, you should be able to perform emergency firmware restore through Keis. There is a thread in the general section that details how to enter your serial number, etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
This procedure should put you on the latest firmware regardless of root or what you currently have installed.
You could flash one of the debloated official ICS ROMs.
I'm not sure but I think Bigfau has the complete official posted. Flappjaxxx has a nice one also

I went with bigfau. I installed the better stock ics rom. Works like a charm. Thank you to those that replied.

[Q] Cannot Update to 4.1.2

I have 4.1.1 Jellybean on my phone, is unlocked, an had no trouble updating to 4.1.1 from ICS. Now that my phone shows "Updates Available", downloads them files( I think), but does not install and rather says "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available". The new updates I have seen in my mate's phone are good, and as he told me he had no trouble updating to it unlike mine.
What is the problem and the best way to solve this issue?
Also I'd like to ask, if I used Odin to update it manually, will I be able to update my phone with later releases without having to use Odin again?

You answered your question yourself...modified = no ota update. Go back to stock unmodified or easier, download the new version from xda or sammobile and flash via odin

Well i don't know what you mean with "unlocked" . If you mean rooted then it's easy :fingers-crossed:. You might have rooted with CF-Root or Toolbox or whatever. And in that process you were forced to install Clockworkmod Recovery and that's the reason you can't get OTA. If you want to have a rooted phone and OTA all you have to do is. Root your phone, stay on stock rom and flash the stock recovery via odin. But this means you loose CWM Recovery and a lot of the fun part about a rooted phone is gone.

What part of "Unlocked" is confusing to you? It means the phone can run any sim card of any sim provider, thats what I meant, and no, the phone is not rooted or never even have tried rooting it... Never mind, I factory reset the phone and the update is done. Anyways kudos for your reply
Cheers!

[Q] Is it safe to install the automatic update from 4.0.4 to 4.1 with Siyah v:5.0.1?

Hi all,
I'm looking for a little bit of advice regarding the automatic software update on my Galaxy S2.
I am currently Rooted via Siyah Version: 5.0.1 and running Android 4.0.4. The automatic update wants to upgrade my phone to 4.1.
Will the automatic update mess anything up with regards to my Root or the phone? Is it safe to install?
My thanks in advance,
John.
Yes it's safe. Yes the stock kernel will replace Siyah & you'll lose root, which means you'll need to reflash it/re-root when you're done.
Hi there,
I finally got round to this update. After it downloads and installs the phone reboots into the updating screen, however, once the phone loads properly it displays a failure message. Saying the update was unsuccessful and that I need to connect my phone to Kies.
I dismiss this message, however, the phone tries to download and install the same update on pretty much a daily basis with no option to cancel. Only to delay buy X-hours.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Thanks,
John.
Flash 4.1.2 with odin. Or you could find the thread on here with cwm firmware zips. He has updated to latest lsw firmware.

[Q] Phone is alive but stuck on ventilator on GB

Hello All. I had installed SHOStock 3.0.1. Then I somehow thought that I will back ROM and that reminds me of ROM Manager which I installed ages back . Clicked on backup which restarted the phone and then phone didnt start ever. So I put back Stock Gingerbread UCKH7. But now after that when I am trying to update using AT&T software update, it is giving me error that software cannot be installed due to interrupation. When I try to install from Kies, office laptop does not recongnize my phone. Home laptop do recongnize the phone but gives message that this version of Android is not supported to upgrade by Kies. I dont know how shall I proceed. When I try to install stock ICS downlaoded from some XDA thread using ODIN, it is not doing anything. Tried to use Exynos Abuse to root but not working. Any other tool to root? Is it ok to directly install some Jelly Bean ROM after root on Gingerbread or shall I go for ICS first then JB? PS: Tried to read thr' all stickies and Q & A but could not find proper answer. Thanks in Advance.
I hope you didn't do any permanent damage by using rom manager. If you did all the reading you mentioned, you probably saw, after the fact, the sticky thread warning not to use rom manager.
First, you can not do an over the air update any longer; the only way to update officially is via kies. Not sure what is blocking kies, but you might try entering 3e recovery and performing a wipe data/factory reset, then see if kies will install the update. You do have to be bone stock for kies to work, I think. Rooted may be ok. Not sure exactly what elements causes kies to fail.
I mention the possibility of damage because you say:

You should be able to flash any of the stock firmware via Odin.
If you want to go the custom firmware route, you can install a custom kernel, then use ClockworkMod Recovery to install your custom firmware. You should be able to do this from any version, Gingerbread, ICS or JB.
You can root by flashing one of the stock plus root packages. Exynos Abuse only worked with 4.0.3 I think. The exploit was patched. People have been using Framaroot to root stock 4.1.2, and I believe someone mentioned using it successfully on ICS as well. Results posted here have been mixed but generally successful.
There are several resources in the Download Repository. See the link in my signature.
Will try tonight

I used your root to official ICS. Then I rooted Exynos to root. Thank you. Do I still need to have CWM after this? I am planning to install Helly Bean please let me know.,

Assuming that Helly Bean uses a CWM flashable zip file, as almost all rom's do, then you will need to install a custom kernel containing a CWM recovery. You can not flash rom's from stock recovery or Odin.
