OK guys let's be honest, is the Sensation more worthwhile than the amaze - HTC Amaze 4G

Before you go and bash me saying we do one of these threads like every week I'm just asking an honest question. is it worth it to trade an amaze for a sensation or go to the sensation from the amaze because if development and support
The down side is less RAM slightly worse camera and no internal storage
But besides that speed wise they should be similar since they run the same chip.
Software is a huge part of the phone, and I don't want the one s because it doesn't have a removable battery and storage.
What should I do? I think me and my amaze have been together long enough

Damn noob... There's a Q&A Section.

Noooo it's a discussion thread

In my opinion Sensation is better than Amaze since it gets more software supports (official CM, yah), integrated SoC (seems to be more power efficient), and is slightly thinner.

Hey eclipze! I personally think that the trading to the sensation is a good decision unless your snagging some cash. But I personally have owned 3 sensations. And have had one at the same time as having an amaze. I compared my stock amaze side by side with my cm 9 sensation. And the speed, smoothness, and stability of my amaze was noticeably better than the sensation. So while having the support, I really don't think it out performs the amaze. I had a sensation when the amaze came out. I was honestly laughing at the amaze. It seemed like a terrible phone choice for tmobile to push because it was arguably the same specs as the amaze. I thought this for a long time. I then had an opportunity to get an amaze dirt cheap, I planned on just reselling (besides wanting to play with the camera). But once I played with it I immediately noticed a difference in performance. That aside... Out of probably 4 sensations that ever reached my hands, 3 had significant amounts of dust under the screen. This gradually increased overtime... So even if it didn't have dust to begin with, it happened eventually. Because I'm cheap... If I could find a sensation for around $150 and could sell this for over $250, I'd do it, and use the sensation until gsiii prices dropped. But unless you're getting money out of it I wouldn't find it worth it.

I think I'm having the same feelings as you. I have been thinking about switching to a different device that has more support and dev. Although, I haven't thought about the sensation. Personally, I wouldn't go to the sensation as an equal exchange. I would need cash on top since the amaze is an upgrade.
Although, I'm actually thinking about the sgs3 or the nexus. I found a s3 for 400 brand new, thinking about getting it right after this doctor's appointment.
EDIT: after some reading it seems that there are a lot of scams going on with people on CL and tmobile phones, specifically the sgs3. So maybe won't go down that route. :banghead:

I can personally care less. I don't like the Sensation as much. 14.4MB compared to 42MB. big difference for data. I originally bought my phone so I can tether it to my laptop and Xbox. I still do that. I'm happy with how the software is. I'm not a flashaholic so I really don't mind. Sure, it is slow around here. At least I made some friends around here and people know me.

No thanks to a sensation, that's clearly a downgrade. If you've used one, side by side with an amaze, you'll know.

why not get an s3? arent you over there making roms for it anyways? if youre going to get rid of your amaze, at least dont go backwards

I think right now.... No amaze ftw

I got an Amaze knowing its issues. The performance is ok and its size/weight is not as much an issue for me since it is tapered. The lack of wifi source this late is infuriating. The battery life is also mediocre at best. IMO the main problem with the amaze is the crappy HSPA+ modem that was first gen, a huge power hog, and made the phone bulky as well.
But I probably would not downgrade to the sensation despite better rom support and battery life. I'd rather just wait for the successor to the Amaze or the next google phone.

If you could, get an S3, way better than the Sensation & Amaze. Only thing I miss from HTC is Sense, but Samsung's new touchwiz isn't that bad.

Had an S3. Sold it after a week. Love my Amaze.

Sure it has great ROM development but I'm sure it wasn't always like that. The amaze work have great development one we figure out data. Plus it's a downgrade in specs from the amaze. If anything I would say go with a more current phone like the s3 or the one series phones.

[Q]edit! anyone think the sensation is actually worth more than atrix?

I have been looking for one for weeks and it has been a no-go. i've looked through XDA market, and CL. i dont understand why, ive heard so many people trading back to a atrix from a sensation asap when they tried it. when i ask if they'd trade its usually "no thanks, the sensation is worth more". i honestly dont care about price tag. that doesnt put out how much the device is worth, just what manufactures tag it. especially when atrix has more ram and features. and before i get flamed for even posting this. i want to trade because i care about display and camera over webtop. i take tons of pics and watch netflix alot on the go. i actually liked this display until i watched a couple movies.. i hate the outer glow on the screen and how grainy it can look/washed out. or maybe i should go after another phone?
Reason im posting it here is because i want to hear people who have the atrix or even both opinions. thanks
edit: haha to think i was about to trade.... http://www.htcphones.net/htc-announced-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio/ look at this ****!
I have an ATRIX and I love it ..I actually thought about trading it for a sensation but after watching a review it changed my mind. Its so much faster than the sensation and never lags,..I think it was bad with MOTOBLUR but with a custom rom or the official gingerbread update its simply amazing, only phone I would trade it for is the galaxy s2

ive heard about all the laggyness and glitchyness the sensation has "had". its mostly all gone now, they released a update and one of my friends that has the sensation says all the screen issues are gone and its way less laggy. so that made my interested in it again. ive always been on HTCs boat, this is my first Moto device. i wouldnt mind getting one again though.
edit: dont get me wrong, i LOVE my atrix, best device i have had. i just like to switch things up.. i dont really care for the "big features" of this devices. they sounded cool at first. but not for me

Do you like it though?? about benchmarks or anything of that matter. just everyday use and games/movies, also i love to skype and such. its sad atrix isnt supported. thanks. ive never been big on CM cause its all "stock" it just bores me id rather have eye candy and neat looking things and a camera/gallery with great settings then just.. stock. hopefully ICS has neat things
thats why i love sense. it all great in one package. i havent had my hands on sense 3.0 yet, last android HTC devices i had was the mytouch 4g.
I can't do HTC phones anymore until they improve the battery, and make the signal strength stronger...

I love my ATRIX, I get around 2200-2700 on benchmarks and in everyday use it never lags, opens applications easily, also the battery is a huge plus, I easily get through a day, I could get it through 2 but i'm used to charging my phone every night. I also think the tegrazone games are fantastic, even though im not a mobile gamer. If you're thinking about trading your phone for the sensation I would wait for any HTC devices coming out in the next few months that may running sense 3.5, or even beats audio, or maybe a Samsung galaxy s2 or nexus prime.

I agree, my old MyTouch barely made it through like half a days usage..would have to charge it around 5 or 6pm, Motorola also always does a great job on radio too
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
lol i know what you guys mean xD i am always home so that isnt an issue, and with radio i have more benefits with the sensation cause im on tmo. the biggest thing i will miss is the nvidia GPU, im huge on nvidia. not so big on AMD adreno... AMD always is lacking something it seems. id be giving up tegrazone for NEON support, that is hard. id probably go for neon support because i play emulators more than anything.. like ps1 games, etc. just getting someone to trade is the problem :[ id love to have a spare atrix though, this phone has been my favorite so far modding. HTC phones have never been that fun for me with modding lol, idk why. alot of people think the guys in the atrix forums are mean, lol. people are worse in the HTC forums.
motorola atrix internal hardware with HTC sensation external would be a dream phone haha.. im never getting a samsuck phone again, after what they did to the people who spent $500 on the behold 2 to f*ck them, seriously. dont mean to sound like a **** but i was one of them who bought it lol. im all for motorola, htc, and id think about getting a xperia if they made a freaking dual core phone and not just overclocked a arc up to 1.4ghz -_-
my brother has a incredible and holy crap that things battery life is horrible!

I'll give you the screen, but my Atrix is in a case so build quality to me doesn't matter as much.
I really think "HTC Sense" is the biggest draw that brings people in. I enjoyed my time with it too.
But whether I had HTC for Android or even Winmo, I never kept a call in any of my questionable dead zones.
If they fixed that and the battery (larger physical battery and in the software) I could see myself going back to HTC again down the road...

that is one big thing, but not completely for me. i have just always had HTC and i most likely always will. i love the form factor, the cameras, the software, etc. only thing that sucks on HTC phones is the speaker, that is horrid haha.
well they did fix the laggyness in the software. the battery is poop but oh well thats one thing that has never bothered me for some reason, unless im camping or something lol.

[Q] try another sensation or get the amaze?

So I had bought an HTC Sensation this past Thursday. Yesterday I noticed dust behind the screen. Googled it and found it was a big problem for some and they exchanged it. Being within my 14 days I went today to exchange my sensation which T-Mobile did right away. Get back to work and start setting up the phone and notice an even bigger piece of dust under the screen! I went back after work to get a third one. The guy there then let me see the amaze. I liked it but do like the looks of the sensation better. Amaze was faster and smoother.
So basically I am the kind of person where yes dust under the screen annoys the crap out of me and I expect more from paying that much for a phone. So what would you do? Get a third sensation and hope for no dust or get the amaze and deal with the looks? (I love the back of the amaze but hate the metal ring, but it is starting to grow on me)
you answered your own question seriously bro
I'm thinking along the same lines as the OP here...got seriously burnt (and annoyed) with the Sensation, had 2 units both with exactly the same problem and have now received a full refund the piece of crap! So...I do like the looks of the HTC units and my wife is in the market for a new phone (upgrade from the Desire) and the Amaze fits the bill...and so far from googling, I've not foun any "serious" recurrent problems...
On a slightly different topic, but still sort of related (!) can anyone tell me if the Amaze 4g unit will work in Australia (I know there is no 4g here yet, but its coming next year apparently)?
I still say sensation because if development but amaze is picking up so for the more ram but mostly camera sensor maybe amaze.

I came from a Sensation and sometimes I rather miss it., because of the dev community. It is a solid phone that looks good and has the right size weight and thickness. (only if you get the ones without the dust in the glass).
I upgraded to an amaze because of the camera, dedicated video and camera buttons, NFC, larger memory, built in 16gb and also better front facing camera. At this point I like it a lot. The phone works well and the pictures are an improcement, (more details in low light).
IMO the screen seems to be more vivid and brighter than the sensation, even tho they say it is the same screen.
I am just waiting for the Amaze dev community to grow and this will be even better than the sensation. (bad timing for the Amaze community cuz of waiting on ICS, dev doesn't want to put too much time into and older build when ICS is coming in a moth or so.

I had both as well as the Inspire 4G and the G2 and I would say the Amaze is the best phone I've ever used hands down. Just like all phones, development takes time but it is progressing at the same pace as anything else I think. I was happy with my Sensation but the Amaze is just so much better.
As a totally happy and satisfied user of a rooted glacier, would I notice any substantial improvement in just the overall experience of using the phone?
The only major plus I see is the larger screen in terms of real tangible differences that I would notice immediately.
Are there any "must have" features that the amaze would deliver that the average user would notice and benefit from?

Welcome fellow Ruby user. For the extra $29, you have at least future proofed your phone for an extra 3-6 months with the extra stuff that the Sensation doesn't have.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a former Sensation user and love it. But the Amaze has more RAM, better camera (backlit illuminated), better front cam 2mp, dedicated camera button and video button, louder speaker, NFC, faster CPU out of the box (even tho the Sensation is underclocked with the same chip), larger battery (but doesn't last as long), and IMO a brighter and clearer screen (even tho it's supposedly the same screen; maybe I got a better batch this time).
Enjoy it.
So initial impression from sensation was that this amaze is definetly bigger. Couple hours later and I'm already used to it and love it.
Camera buttons are awesome.
Stock for stock it destroys the sensation.
I'm a very happy guy right now

Hope these help you decide though.
And if those aren't enough here's what I think:
Personally I wouldn't buy any phone without a shutter button because it makes it that much easier for me to use.
The Amaze let's you go straight to camcorder or camera from the lock screen/off screen simply by holding down the corresponding button.
This works wonders for when I want to capture moments with my kids.
And the One S? No removable battery, no microSD card...what is it, an iPhone?
I think it's original production name was iphONE S.
Seriously, think about it. Lol.
Before you buy any phone check to see if there's a good developer community for it. What makes these smart phones smarter is solid development.
You're better off going for the s3. I know i am
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G
If sd card, removable battery, dedicated camera/camcorder button and NFC are important then you should go for the Amaze. On the other hand if none of that is important then I'd suggest going for the One S. From what I've seen, the One S has a pretty good developing community and HTC is currently supporting it as it's one of their flagship phones. While the Amaze is left in the dust sadly.

I agree. I went from the Amaze (well still have it as a backup) to the Galaxy Nexus, so I'm in your reverse situation. Honestly, the hardware of the Amaze is top notch, so in that regard you wouldn't be disappointed.
However, if you are looking for a variety of things to flash and robust development, the Amaze is really not a good phone to get. It's no fault of the few developers we do have, but more a lack of proper drivers and source thanks to HTC abandoning this device.
If development is important to you, go with the HTC One S (better processor, GPU and screen) or the SGS3 (better everything) when it comes out on the 21st. Both will have better dev communities since they are flagship devices.

Purchasing either one right now is a poor consumer decision and would be very premature. I'm a fan of the Amaze, but not happy that HTC has abandoned it. I'd wait to play with the S3 and then weigh your options and decide what's most important to you.

Galaxy nexus vs. LTEvo

I'm having trouble deciding between the galaxy nexus and the evo lte I like sense and want a device with good longevity is there anyone who's thought about this before if so what was your choice?
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
I'm sure there's alot of ppl on here who have had the same question. Theres a few other threads about it, but like others have said I think it all comes down to personal preference because both phones will perform similar. Go play with both of them to make it a little easier
The nexus will with out a doubt get jelly bean first. The EVO is the best build quality. It's pesonal choice but for me I will stick to the EVO. I tried nexus before and liked it, but all mods and ROMs where the same. And I hate all that plastic

this is a tough choice im leaning towards evo right now though is build quality of the evo really as good as people say?

man with out a doubt go with the evo. i have both and i can tell you right now you will not be disappointed. i love my evo. great UI and outstanding build quality.
but over all its about your personal preference.
ltevO!!!!!
Had both and I kept my evo only cause evo has better reception then my galaxy nexus did, but other then that the galaxy nexus is a really good phone IMO cant go wrong with neither, but if you want dates update probably nexus, but if you want a reliable phone for the next two years, both phone will do this, I got rid of mine but I should have kept both

There is absolutely no competition here.....
EVO 4G LTE hands down.
I'm thinking there is a better dev community here with the evo so I'm a little less worried about updates

I've had the LTEvo for over a week now and all I can say is WOW. Aside from being super smooth with sense and all that jazz, the battery life is just plain nuts. I have yet to see it go below 70% and I leave it on from 7am til 11pm. I use it to browse and play music a good bit, too. Another thing I am waaay impressed with is how fast it turns on and off. I can turn it on and off and on again faster than my HTC Thunderbolt turns on! It also runs the psx emulator a TON better than my tbolt, so I'm happy with my ffix Sense 4.0 FTW
In terms of Dev and community support, HTC will always take the cake there. There might be a chance that a new nexus will be release before Jelly Beans comes out, but that's just heresay. I'm also under the opinion that google will be shifting a lot of there goodies to Motorola phones now since they bought it out.
P.S.- the camera is by far the best one I have seen, although I'm sure there will be people that say they've seen better on other phones, but meh.
The last phone I owned on Sprint was the Galaxy Nexus (switched to Straight Talk on an international GS3). I would say go for the Evo 4G LTE. The "awesomness of a stock experience" wears off pretty quickly. Sense 4.0 adds features and isn't as bloated as previous versions. More importantly, the SLCD2 screen is much sharper than the SAMOLED Plus screen on the Nexus, and the Nexus is running last year's features and noticeably lags.
Stock can also be on an unlocked rooted evo so is there really a big difference between the nexus?
Sent from my HERO200 using xda premium
Definitely go with the LTEvo. I was in the same boat as you, and was completely torn between the Gnex and the Evo. I had previously owned the OG Evo, and the Evo 3D, and while of course interested in the LTEvo, I was enticed by the sexy look of the Gnex, the pure AOSP, and the immediate updates from Google. I played with the Gnex for a while, but the moment I held the LTEvo in my hands I knew it was no contest.
Build quality is way better, screen is the best I'd ever seen on a phone, expandable storage, larger battery, improved radios...it's a beast. And the dev community is steadily growing, especially since the phone has only been out to the general public for about 3 weeks. There's a largely functional CM9 ROM already (capable of being a daily, depending on your needs, as it's only really missing MMS, multitouch, camcorder) if you crave AOSP, and I'm sure we won't be that far behind the curve in terms of getting JB.
The Gnex is a great phone, dont get me wrong, and not many people who've gotten a Nexus phone have ever really regretted it. But it's age is starting to show, and at this point, the LTEvo is definitely going to last longer technologically speaking.

The Gnex has the best development community right now. But yes, the Evo is good too. Just not better.
To OP, if you want updates first without waiting and worrying, get the Nexus. If you want Sense and better specs, get the Evo. We'll have our devs give us JB before HTC does, at least.

Significantly better specs, at that. After a while, software doesn't matter if the hardware is behind. Oh and also, the Nexus has TERRIBLE terrible camera, especially compared to the Evo. When I say terrible, I mean even my Sony Ericsson W580i took better pictures, I'm not exaggerating.
I'm convinced now I'm gona get the evo if I don't like it ill use the 30 return policy

True, but I would argue that this phone stock, Sense and all, runs about as smooth as the Gnex does stock as well. The spec difference is kind of less obvious due to Sense. Running stock ICS on this phone would really show the difference. Gaming as well. But as someone who does not game that much on a cellphone, I would say that the difference in power between the two, while admittedly large, isn't as huge when it comes to non-gaming performance, thanks to Sense.
This phone is still much better though. Even if someone doesn't completely understand how much more powerful it is, anyone can see that this phone can run something as heavy as Sense as smooth as the Gnex runs stock ICS.
Tl;dr: I agree with you.

Let down

HTC why are you crippling the development of your recent devices? ive been a fan of htc. got the original G1, motorola cliq (FACCKKK WHAT A MISTAKE! hopefully moto made their devices better), nexus one, G2 and now.... the amaze
i got the amaze since day 1 of its release. hoping its development would blossom like the nexus one and G2. blehh guess it didnt! ive been looking through the threads here and it looks like HTC has issues releasing kernel sources and that severely cripples development. all we get are broken roms. its kinda irritating that HTC's dev community are practically bothering HTC about it yet they just give us generic answers lol im surprised dev's here got as far as they did without any support from htc
Im thinking about moving on to a new device... i was hoping to get another HTC phone (HTC ONE X+ anyone?) but who says that HTC might do what they did with the amaze again. Im thinking about transitioning to a new company all together? samsung? or maybe Motorola (their new QWERTY key boards are to die for). From reading reviews they look amazing but there is one issue its build quality... HTC makes the best phones when it comes to hardware. I wanted to get the galaxy nex but the specs isnt all that tantalizing. thats why im reluctant to move out. but im prlly borderline
The company thats prlly as good as HTC when it comes to build quality is SONY. Xperia S looks nice.. esp the transparent strip. But i want it to glow different colors like the xperia u. I just wish it would work on tmobile 4g. Other than that this is prlly on par to htc's build quality.
Hopefully HTC will make a new nexus device with killer specs this fall.
HTC Y U DO THIS?
I agree with u 110% I "moved on" to the galaxy nexus. And the older specs don't mean much, it obliterates the amaze in performance. But the build quality is real bad. Every time my phone vibrates it feels like its going to dismantle itself. I still have the amaze, and when I go back to play with it, its So slow and stuttery, but the phone feels so amazing in my hand I love the build quality. And the camera is MAGNIFICENT! Both phones have pros and cons! I give so much props to the Devs here they keep working at it even though htc is working against them :'(

yea! i was afraid of that... too light and too clunky. I mean the htc one S is light but it's build quality blows all of samsung's phones out when it came to that. but the development is amazing for gnex.... i want the paranoid rom ported to the amaze but thats aosp based lol and the amaze doesnt even have that yet!
htc must make the next nexus! ughhh no more samsung. i dont want to jump the band wagon yet.
considering google owns motorola now, by the time I'm ready to upgrade I wouldn't be surprised if I'll have a moto in my pocket. Aside from the build quality I can't stand for what HTC has done to its customers. I expect HTC to get worse too, so now that you know they're capable of doing what they've done, they won't get my business again

I have a case on my nexus. Still feels light and cheap. I didn't leave HTC for Samsung, I left ICS for jellybean lol
Jellybean is light years ahead of ICS and iOS lol
If htc makes the next nexus with one s/x build quality. I'm all over that like a virgin at the strip club!

Unfortunately it's pretty unlikely that we'll be seeing any ground-breaking development for the Amaze... We've been itching for a fully working AOSP ROM for at least half a year and even though we've got S-Off, it obviously hasn't made as much of an impact on the progress of AOSP ROMs as we had hoped.
I'm still using an Amaze, stock rooted and debloated, but I've pretty much given up hope on a viable AOSP ROM for this device. I've seen so many people post about saying how this beast of a device will finally be unleashed when blah blah blah blah but honestly, a GNexus with its inferior specs will hands down beat the Amaze into the ground in performance and smoothness.
This device was a total let down. The specs on paper looked awesome at the time and the build quality looked to be much better than other phones, and yet here we are with the capacitive button light bleed, camera flash leak, squeaking backplate, and god knows what else there may be.
All I can say is that I will probably never buy another HTC device in the future because of this experience.

One x/s build quality? S maybe but not x, x has so many hardware issues >.<
Samsung's quality is not really in question. It's just how it feels... A lighter phone is smarter and the plastic is a lot less likely to crack. My vibrant never creaked or had any weird physical issues. And chances are with a lighter phone the screen is less likely to break or crack from a fall. A lot of people like it. I personally love the feeling of the amaze in my hand. The weight gives the impression of it being more durable I like my phone having a little weight to it.
And I know there's a lot of talk about the amaze being poor but honestly I'm just happy we even got ics. Seriously, I had a sensation and this at the same time and this stock gb, compared to my sensation on ics aosp, the amaze was much smoother. May not be everyone's experience but was the case for me. Also I had multiple sensations that got dust under the screen very easily. And know several others with the same issue. I know the sensation is also HTC but to say the amaze was a failure or similar things, I have to disagree. As far as htc, yeah its a little disappointing what they've done. And Samsung is seeming to change for the better but back with my vibrant, the HTC devices I saw were getting froyo updates months before we had any signs of getting an update. Was quite frustrating. Ha back then all the talk was #neveragainsamung now it's htc. Interesting

Dang, you're like the 7th person I've read has gotten that dust issue, and to think I was going to buy the sensation, but decided to go with the amaze lol. I'm giving HTC one last chance, with the one x+ apparently, I'll see how it turns out, if it sucks I'll go with sammy and... Goodbye HTC

Ha yeah that dust was an epidemic! And it could happen at any time /shudders freaking nightmare I tell ya! And yeah I mean every phone company has their peak and their fall. Sammy hasn't been the best with updating their devices and while we had everything else working when we finally got custom roms not based on touchwiz it took an eternity to get gps working without them releasing the drivers. And gps blew anyway. I think it took the sgs ii the same time as us to get ics. It's not that Sammy is doing great customer relation business its just that htc is plummeting, making them look good and htc isn't thinking of the customer... No memory expansion, no battery removal. That's irritating to me. The grass is always greener though! I thought I saw Sony devices are pretty decent and updated pretty quickly that's hearsay though.
