[Q] How can I unroot my phone ? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I want to unroot my SGS3 just to compare with stock ROM. I tried this :
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-s3-i9300/#comment-4415
But during the flash of cache.img everything stops and the phone is rebooting.
But like I said in the commentaries when my phone is rebooting I've a black screen. Then I tried to flash it directly with Heimdall but I've got this error
ERROR: Partition corresponding to -modem argument could not be located
Ending session...
Rebooting device...
Re-attaching kernel driver...
Click to collapse
And when I remove the modem.bin my phone stays with the "Samsung" and never get to the PIN code.
Do you have any idea how could I unroot my phone ?
Thanks.
PS : I'm using Ubuntu, I can't use Odin.

Use mobile Odin. This can unroot I believe.
Edit: sorry this isn't correct search for cfroot (with cwm recovery) there is an unroot method in 2nd post (unable to post link atm, sorry)

I said I cant' because I'm using Linux. And when I'm trying to flash through Heimdall I've got the error I copied in the first post.

Flash back stock firmware on PC Odin. It will do a total wipe and you are back on stock. No root.

Yes i read all your posts you have UBUNTU so what you need to do is buy ODIN mobile from play store download a stock rom depending on your country from sammobile.com. Extract the zip file get the tar file and put it into your sd and use mobile odin to flash back to stock.

Use this video as a guide it's the same way for S3 just download an s3 firmware not S2

Thanks for your response. I thought I said it. I already tried with Odin mobile. Everything's fine but when it's flashing cache.img the phone reboots and I get bootloops.

You can flash through Heimdall but to be honest I can't remember the exact steps. Here's a guide I used sometime back:

Sorry if it doesn't help. It just gives an idea.

Leaked LSJ Custom ROM stuck at Boot Logo

I downloaded one of the leaked custom roms of LSJ (Simplistic and Wanamlite). I flashed it, but the problem is it gets stuck with the boot logo. What seems to be the problem here? I have wiped everything. From data to cache. I came from CM10 nightlies, dorimanx kernel.
All replies will be much appreciated.
I believe the mask might be the problem because jb is new file structure. It may strip all mods from your phone.
Yu may have to wait until the offical version has been out for a while before flashing it.

Quite a possibility that the file you have download it may be corrupted so download it once again and check the md5 checksum and then flash it.. Also don't forget to wipe data and cache partition

Download this cwm zip http://download.chainfire.eu/267/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.97.zip after you download it. Rename it to update.zip, place it to your external sd, reboot to recovery(volume up,home button, power button)wait until you see the greendroid, flash update external storage. Reboot!and your rooted. you can now flash http://www.mediafire.com/?cjf1znoisrwafjdphils kernel for better instability flash it via odin just add it to pda.

Someone help me with my new galaxy SIII

First off my English isn't perfect so its hard for me to understand how some things work.
I have a galaxy SIII I9300 4.1.1.
Can you upgrade a galaxy S3 4.1.1 to 4.2.1?
I want CM 10.1 on my galaxy S3 but i need version 4.1.1.
I once tried putting CM 10.0.0 on it but it wouldn't work, So i searched it up on google and it said i need a dutch version of Cm10.0.0 or something( My phone is dutch)( I am dutch )
If someone can help me i would realllllllyyy appreciate it. i have been youtubing and googling for a long time but cant find anything that really helps me.
So if you're that one nice guy that like to help me! Leave a post with your skype and we will talk!
Since you have an I9300, you need to be in that section. This is for the Tmobile US version T999. I will move your thread and hopefully someone in your section will be able to help you.
Good luck.

From what I heard, International version of galaxy s3 is unable to get cm10 because Samsung hasn't release the hardware or software codes yet? I may be wrong or even way off but something along those lines

If you want to install cgm 10.1 on your S3 you can download the zip file of the latest version of the Rom and if you have already rooted your S3 you have to install that zip using the recovery.
If you haven't rooted your s3 you have first of all to root it.
Where did you read that you need a particular version of the original rom to install cgm?

Stuck in Download Mode

I just tried rooting my phone using Odin and was expecting phone to reboot. It didn't and instead is stuck in Download Mode after flashing the required .tar file. I cannot get to the home screen or anything like that. I have also searched for the stocked kernel from Samsung on their website to see if I can flash that using Odin. The only thing that shows is the download for Kies. My phone will not be recognized by Kies either.

I used the CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.tar.md5 to root instead of CF-Auto-Root-m3-m3zh-gti9305.tar.md5

I did try to Re Flash with CF-Auto-Root-m3-m3zh-gti9305.tar.md5, pull the battery and then enter Recovery mode, but nothing I jusr got to the recovery mode screen. nothing else..
What else can I try?

I have been looking for a thread about if superoneclick can root the S3. If anyone can help me with this please tell me where to find it at. I have superoneclick v2.3.3 downloaded on my computer already.

I read your first post and the guides explain in detail how to root and what are the options (cf-autoroot, cf-root), hence if you would have read you would know . Both options can be found in the dev section.

I would use CF-Auto-Root or CF-Root 6.4 but I can't find any working link anywhere and it seems this site has some issues http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately all the links say "Database error". And attempt after attempt on all 3 options, Framaroot is still being stubborn.
if you are using a stock rom you can re flash it by using Mobile Odin Pro. it is in the play store for about $6 . make sure to tick the option for Everoot. this will install the rom pre-rooted. you may want to back up efs folder before flashing anything . Best of luck.
nevermind I forgot you need root to use it. sorry
Framaroot should work if you flash an older unpatched build but that could be risky.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately all the links say "Database error". And attempt after attempt on all 3 options, Framaroot is still being stubborn.

Do you really need root? Can't you just flash a rom as suggested in my thread you just read?

if you are using a stock rom you can re flash it by using Mobile Odin Pro. it is in the play store for about $6 . make sure to tick the option for Everoot. this will install the rom pre-rooted. you may want to back up efs folder before flashing anything . Best of luck

I think I read somewhere that flashing a custom kernel such as siyah can get you rooted. may want to try that?
IMHO and as per my thread > flash recovery via odin.
Then you can flash a rooted rom and its all done

Thanks. Now, I guess I'll flash CWM again tomorrow, but I am unsure of where to find rooted roms as I have never used this method of rooting before, I'm lost.

You've never flashed a rom via recovery?
They're all in android development. Hundreds of them. IMHO, stay away from mg4 unless you've had it before...the whole imei thing

I learned staying away from mg4 the hard way. I flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly to a stock rom only to find that I dug my own grave as I previously had an mg4, so I had to flash back to it. And I'm not sure what I've flashed via recovery, I may have but I just don't remember.
Edit: and on a side note, a rom is different from firmware right? Since I got into the whole imei problem I forgot what goes where and what flashes what, it shook me up.

You would have flashed cm via recovery. Do the same but with something like wanam lite or omega...
Or wait for chainfires website to be fixed. Doubt it will be down long

I think I'll wait for chainfire's website to be fixed as even though it may or may not be the easiest, it made the most sense to me when I done my phone the other day, I knew that method with my eyes closed.
Thanks for all of your help. Although I may not use your methods now, they will certainly come in handy in the future.
As for cm... although it was one of the best things that happened to my phone... I will not touch it again or anything like until 10.1 is stable because it gave me hell xD I'll be running with my rooted phone and root apps until that time comes.

if you are on MG4 firmware or rom. you will most likely lose imei if you flash any previous modem. I would back up efs folder going forward. probably best to stick to MG4 based builds for now .there are some custom roms with the MG4 base in the android development threads .since that is a newer build than most. that explains why it has been patched. why framaroot and cf root are not working. There is a prerooted stock firmware for MG4 if I find it p will share the link
