[Q] Camera settings font become giant - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I entered camera settings today and noticed the font became really big. I think some custom roms i tried caused this problem. I tried the simplicity and extereme barebones roms and returned back to stock that i've backed up before. What i want to know is i followed the instructions on this thread word for word and before i restored the backup should i have performed wipe data/reset wipe data catche. Because it says just do the restore. Is this the cause of the problem if not can you upload the stock camera apk for me please. Thank you.

I had the same problem with my Galaxy Y, and I discovered that the problem is the custom KERNEL..
What you need to do is to reflash the stock kernel via Odin, and you will get the normal font in the camera settings
CWM has problems (at least with my SGY) since it does NOT restore the original kernel from nandroid backups.
*note* I do not know if OP has solved this problem, and I hate to bump and old thread, but I have had the same problem and since it seems to be pretty uncommon, I prefer to put my answer in an existing thread so it will be easier for people to find

Who cares about the age of the thread? A question will be still the same questions, even after 6 months or 2 years. A question won't change without editing. So the age of the thread doesn't care. It is like commenting a 1 weeks old comment on youtube.

[Q] [ROM + Q] Lite'ning ROM

Hi!
Moving over from Desire to SGS2 and I'm excited
Couldnt find a Q-thread on Lite'ning-ROM (as I dont want to ask in dev-thread), so here goes:
After flashing latest 1.3, I get force close on:
com.google.process.gapps
and some more apps like Handcent
Tried wiping cache but no luck..
Any ideas?
If there's a thread I missed out on - plz feel free to delete!
Oh strange, I don't have this problem at all. My advice would be backup all user apps with Titanium Backup and wipe the whole thing.
I hope someone smarter than me can help .

Often fix that sort of problem with a factory reset .

Yep, I believe that would sort it also, but ROM-chef states that wipe etc isnt necessary, so if I can avoid a factory reset I would be happy
can i ask those who are on Lite'ning Rom 1.3, can you list all the apps it has stripped? I went to the Lite'ning Rom 1.3 dev page and its a massive 138 pages of info. So far i have memo, wifi sharing as the apps stripped from this rom. Could the OP or anyone list all the apps stripped so i know what to backup before updating from KE7?
thanks heaps

Did you do a nandroid backup before flashing? What Kernel were you using?
I had some FC's when I flashed it but that was because I had some incompatible mods (black phone dialer, black in call) that were for KE7.

Do a nandroid, see whats missing, and then go back if not satisfied/make list of apps to back up
I flashed this on mySGII and I dont think any app was removed afaik!
I didn't have Handecent installed though; so I cant confirm that!
If this is going to be the Question thread for Lite'ning then I'll re-post my issue;
I flashed Litepro's Lite'ning ROM v1.1 a week or so ago and it caused Flash content in the browser to jump and move about whilst scrolling. When still, the content played fine, but the effect when scrolling is very ugly as you can end up with a flash banner accross what you're trying to read.
I went back to stock ROM and all was back to normal.
I've put v1.2 on hoping that the Flash problem might have been noticed and fixed but it's not.
Installed 1.3 and now want to go back
Hi Guys,
I am sorry for this stupid question but I am extremely new to this and have no idea anymore what I'm doing. I was wondering if there was a way to remove this rom and go back to the original one. Is there a way I can go back to the original way I received it. I thought flashing XWKE8 with PDA will return me back back to the original stock
You can find all the orginal stock roms & kernels here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Flash them with Odin like you did for Lite'ning
I tried wiping everything, but no luck
I tried flashing XWKE7 Stock Kernel, but no luck
Only way is perhaps to unroot and start over?

what i did was use titanium backup to backup all the system apps (e.g. memo, wifi sharing etc)
so after flashing to litepro 1.3 and i want to put some of these apps back, will it work?

Is their a specific way I have to do it? flashing XWKE8 by PDA doesn't seem to remove Lightening 1.3. I just want the original SII with CF-Root 3.7.

Last question, I know this sounds n00bish but what is CWP? Is it stock kernel because I tried flashing that and still no luck. I heard I have to flash a bare nandroid backup. Anyone know where I can get those?

I don't know, I'm a noob too! All I know is that I was able to flash that and my GS2 was back to stock (as far as I could tell) and Lite'ning was gone. All apps and settings remained.
Sorry I can't be more help.

[Q] should i delete everything on my SGS2 if i want to put a ROM

and another question, i still can't update my software to ICS, i go to settings, about phone, updates, and it checks and then says no updates found

Hey mate maybe you should read this post 1st before you delete something on your S2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125282
Cheers
Here & also Stickies.
You're going to have to do a lot of reading/learning. There are no shortcuts, taking shortcuts & not reading/learning leads to bricked phones.
i still didn't get answer to my first question do i need to delete all data on my phone to flash a new ROM??
If your on stock rom then no you don't.
i don't have any rom flashed now, but i'm thinking of miui or cyanogen, do i need to wipe all data or cache for this roms??
Follow whatever instructions these roms have to the letter & you should be fine. It isn't a case of do X regardless of whatever rom you're installing. Some roms have specific instructions.
Yea but its better when you always make a full wipe everytime you change your rom to minimize FCs (errors) but dont forget to back up all your datas and apps

Touch screen response in ICS

So ive flashed ics on my friends SII but from the beginning it had touch problems, for example in the app drawer i have to tap setting 3 times before it registers the touch. For eveything else it works just fine so im sure its not HW related.
Switching kernel improved it (also improved scrolling lag).
Is this a known existing problem with the current kernels? I dont own a galaxy sII so i dont know the issues that are playing atm.
Thanks in advance!

no problem might be bad flash or early beta release that you flashed by mistake
Nah, i thought the same but after flashing again the problem still was there.
Gonna try returning to stock and start again with CM9 Resurrection Edition with Odin. If it still persists i gues the problem is hardware related.
and suddenly everything changes.........!
weren't you on stock ICS before? please use stock with full wipe to test such things.

[Q] From 2.3.4 to CM9 ?

Hey there,
I'm currently using a Galaxy S2, which is running stock Gingerbread 2.3.4 (no updates available through OTA nor Kies)
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
And now I would like to get CM9 on my phone. Although I read quite a lot of threads and tutorials, I still have some
unanswered questions left.
Of course I would like to get onto CM9 in the fastest (and safest) way possible, but I'm not really sure how I would accomplish this.
Is it rather better (or even possible) to just go from 2.3.4 directly to CM9? Could I first root it using insecure kernel or CF-Root and then use CWM Recovery to flash CM9? And would this process actually flash all the necessary things, like the correct firmware, kernel and bootloader?
Or should I use Odin to flash it to stock ICS first and then just follow the official full update guide from the Cyanogenmod Wiki (because it is written with the requirement of stock ICS running on the phone) ?
Please help me out with this, I'm thankfull for every answer that I get
Follow the noob-proof instructions on the first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20841817 , and you can jump to cm9 from your current firmware, no need to go to stock ics first.

Just another question, as far as I understood it I don't need to root before applying the Resurrection Edition of CM9, right?

No. It already includes CWM recovery. After you flash it, boot to CWM and flash the last cm9 update + gapps, wipe data/cache and reboot.
Make sure you put the .zip files on your sdcard first
Great thanks!
This seems to be easy as it can get
Oh and just one more thing, should I do a backup of some sorts? Just a little bit unsure, because then I would have to root first, do a backup and then would be able to the whole CM9 thing (I don't know if the rooted kernel could somehow interfere with the Resurrection Edition later on)

Yeay, just flashed my phone and everything worked out smoothly and perfect, didn't have any problems at all
(I also didn't do a factory reset, is it necessary to that? Because right now there isn't any data left from before and I'm also not experiencing any problems whatsoever, so not really sure if I should do it and what it would do)
Thanks to everyone who posted here and helped me to finally flash my phone :good:

How do i get back to original rom

hi guys,
i have a samsung galaxy s2 (GT-i9100 - NFC), which i got from orange end of 2011. I the in jan 2012 got help from this forum to root my phone and change the rom from the original to:-
Rom & Build No: VillianROM 3.0
And' ver: 2.3.5
Baseband: i9100XXki1
Kernel: 2.6.35.11-ninphetamine-2.0.5+ninpo @ titan #20
Although the phone works okay, i'm beginning to notice a lot of slowdowns and regular reboots, so i want to go back to whatever latest google android OS the S2 can handle (rooted). I've forgotten what to do and would be most grateful if someone could please help me with the following:-
1. Whats the best software/method to backup everything?
2. What is the latest rom (original, but should not have a provider's bloatware) i can use on the S2?
3. Once backed up, how do i change from VillianRom to the latest/best OS currently available?
4. How can i root the original rom?
Thanks once again
Check

I think it ll help you and save you time

For official stock rom, check
www.sammobile.com
And search latest stock rom for your region.
If you like custom rom, then there are so many roms on xda. I like omega and alliance roms. Choice varies from person to person

1. Depends. You can do a backup in CWM to image your device or you can use Titanium Backup Pro to just backup your apps/appdata and restore to new rom.
2. http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ < Check your device/model here.
3. Well just so you're clear, There is no "best" its subjective. Also "latest" depends on what type of rom you want to flash like Sammy/AOSP/AOKP/CM/MIUI etc. To flash latest samsung do it via ODIN, to flash any other do it via CWM. All info you need is already on forum.
4. By flashing custom kernel via ODIN.
All your questions have already been answered countless times.
Thanks very much guys. I simply want a fast lean rom as some seem to be slow running.
Doesn't get better than this.
sendign the phone for warranty?
you will need to flash back the original rom and unroot your phone.
if they found your phone is rooted the warranty void, experience it before so be aware of this.
Let me thank you guys for advicing me. I am most grateful. I read your posts a bit late and in the meantime, I think i have bricked my phone as i've flashed Samsung's original FW (I9100PBVLP8_I9100PORALP8_ORA) from sammobile.com. I used Odin v3 and successfully flashed the phone, but it's simply stuck on the boot logo. I have even done the following:-
I've managed to wipe the cache partition, but the recovery menu has No advanced options. It says:-
ANDROID SYSTEM RECOVERY <3a>
reboot system now
apply update from ext' storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
test redband fota[FS]
But i still cannot get it to boot. I have also tried to use an old nandroid.md5 backup i made, but odin reports the file as invalid.
I'm desperate guys, please could someone help me.
Download Mode and re flash.
Are you sure you are flashing the right ROM right? Check under the battery to see the Device Model.
If it's i9100, then make sure you are downloading a i9100 ROM.
Thanks very much for your advice gastonw - i have managed to fix the problem now by going into system recovery and doing a factory reset, so thank you.
Although everything seems to be working fine, i would have preferred a more newer 4.2 jelly bean rather than 4.0.3. Oh well beggars can't be choosers and all that, lol! I guess i'll have to re-root it again.
gastonw mate ur a star! I've installed the latest JB rom u posted earlier and i'm very happy with it.
Now before i damage it beyond repair, how do i root it safely?

Hi You could try this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 its quite safe so ether should work or wont, if don't no harm done as it doesn't need a insecure kernel.
I'm quite new myself @ this so plz use caution when trying it out.

Good to know man, enjoy it
About root, I've seen a couple of methods laying around the threads, I'm sure they're safe.
I still think that ExynosAbuse app is the fastest way to Root now (one-click).
Here's a vid. I never tried it tho.
Thanks very much for the links AnubuRe and Gastonw.
Gastonw mate, i have been playing with the rom you posted a link to. Don't get me wrong, it's great and very fast, but the downside is that it doesn't have a huge number of options to tweak etc. Now someone mentioned a rom called Neatrom, but i'm wondering what you can recommend? I don't want a bloated rom...i want a fast rom, but with some options to allow me more greater control over the phone.
Also, i know this is a bit off-topic, but can you recommend me a widget app, where i can quickly dial phone numbers i.e. by touching a person's photo?
