Making a template install - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've finally set up my desire pretty well with all the best settings etc. I have a spare desire and at the moment have my friends desire too. I want to restore an image of my phone to each of the other desires, but at the same time, not have the google account info restored.
I tried do a clockworkmod backup and restore to each of the other phones, which worked, but I was thinking I could simply "clear data" of each app, to get my account details off the phone. Unfortunately this isn't the case and the only way is to do a factory reset. I'm using mildwild 4.3 and not prepared to change ROM as it's working fine.
Can anyone advise on the best way to get all the apps, settings and other "template" files to each of the new phones without the account info and without having to start from a factory reset with each phone?
The aim is to get all 3 phones set up the exact same way, but just with their own google accounts and no trace of other accounts. It'd also be good to have the template as a backup.
Any feedback appreciated

Uninstall gmail account prompts factory reset, which i am afraid to do. Help

When i first bought this tablet, i logged on with my main gmail account used on my G2, because i naively thought all my apps would synch over from my phone. Didnt happen.
Since then i installed vegan tab and have been adding apps one by one. Finally got netflix to work. Yay! Now that netflix works, i was going to give the tablet to the kids.
But i can't. Because i can't delete my personal gmail account from the tablet. The kids don't need to read my email and i'm worried they might delete something.
I dont mind reinstalling apps under a new gmail account, but i am worried what factory reset would do to vegan tab.
What to do?

As an alternative you could use an app that locks the use of other apps via password or there is even one that does facial recognition. Then you could always check your gmail when you wanted to by entering a password.
Do a Factory Reset.
Factory reset does not do anything to the ROM, just the data (accounts, apps downloaded, etc..).
there is no "factory ROM" sitting on the device so a Factory Reset can only reset the current ROM you have running. So if you are on VEGAn5.1.1, a Factory Reset will reset the device to be just like you installed VEGAn5.1.1 with no accounts associated with it, no apps installed, no settings configured.
Your /sdcard data is still there....so you'll want to clean that up as well (backups, downloaded files/apps/music/pics/etc..
Thanks tim and tcrews!
Tim, Can you recommend a facial recognition app? An application startup password app?
If I had those, I could keep my blog app on the tablet after I give it to the kids to use for netflix. IF I can ever get Wordpress to load. (other thread on wp)
Your explanation makes sense, tcrews. I'm learning all the time.
Thank you for helping me!
factory reset worked just fine
I'm still wanting an app that blocks the use of other apps by a password or facial recognition.
any suggestions?

I'm not aware if anything like that exist for Android, though I've honestly never looked at it.
Try searching the Market https://market.android.com/ and search for something based off your keywords...
Factory reset is not working

Hello! I have had a similar problem with my Hannspad tablet- I cannot remove the google account we put on there when we rooted it. I need to remove it so I can sell it on. I have tried factory reset like you suggested but when I do it, it shuts down and then when it begins to reboot I get an image of a warning and a cartoon of a man in a hoody which is a part of the root menu. If I then turn it off and on again it is working but my account is still there.
Any ideas of how this can be fixed will be much appreciated and sorry if this has been asked elsewhere; I did search, I promise.

Factory reset with automatic app restore

So when I first got my Evo 3D, I installed a bunch of apps on it from market etc. And then two weeks later, I decided to do a factory reset on it because of an issue that was surfacing after an update.
In any case, after the reset, the phone went through it's initial setup stuff but once I entered my google account info, all my previous text messages + old apps I had installed on the phone were back. I had no idea the phone could do this. Is this stuff somehow linked to our Google Account?
I'm a bit confused because I've seen threads about "backing up" and "restoring" the phone but why we'd need that if the phone does it on it's own.

Becuz backing up jus doesnt back up only apps.....it also backs up ur settings, wifi passwords, also so u dont have to wait for ur apps to download and restore.......
R.I.P. HD2 hello EVO 3D!!
So just to be clear, text messages are backed up somewhere in the cloud without me having to do anything?

If u did a factory reset and they were restored i guess they r in the cloud. I always backup and restore through recovery so im not too sure.

You can change this setting by going into Settings -> Privacy
Remove the check from Back up my settings and or Automatic restore.
Turning off Back up my settings will delete any data from Google's servers.

Well it wont delete all the info. Just your most current backup that Google made.

[Q] Move apps back to phone before factory reset?

Hi,
This is going to be such a "noob" question & I apologize in advance.
I have an Orange UK branded HTC Desire HD running stock firmware & NOT rooted. Since the fairly recent 2.3.5 update with Sense 3.0 I have found that I am regularly seeing Sense restart upon exiting an app and returning to the home screen. This is not related to a particular app, as it can happen when returning to home from ANY app. My wife is seeing the same behaviour on hers too.
Having posted on both HTC's & Orange's Facebook pages, I have been advised in no uncertain terms that as a first step I should perform a factory reset.
This is something that I have not done since I got my DHD (my 1st Android - plenty of hard resets on WM ). I have had a bit of a tidy up - clearing unnecessary data, uninstalling apps I don't use, etc. Pretty much ready to reset (but aware that there is SOME data that I will lose). However, there is one thing that I am unsure about...
I have previously moved a number of apps to the SD card. If I leave them there, will the existing data be recognised upon reinstalling the apps? Or will it cause me problems? Or will the existing data just be orphaned? I.e. should I move all apps back to the phone before performing the reset?
Thanks in Advance
Saving them SD leaves a bit on your phone, so that wont help. Just back them up with your google account!
The apps and system data will be wiped regardless of it being on the sdcard or not. You can perform a manual backup by enabling debugging and using adb to pull the apps from your phone to your computer.

Ok, thanks RTContent. I think that answers my question. So I needn't worry about moving stuff back, which is good.
I have no experience of using ADB. Would this backup just the APKs? Or the settings & user data too?
AlwaysDroid: "Just back them up with your google account" - Not sure I get what you mean. Are you referring to the way Google Play will auto restore apps from your install list? TBH, I was banking on this working correctly. Hopefully it will only reinstall those that were on the device, and not ALL previously installed apps. Especially as some of those were from my tablet only.
Not sure that now is the time to start dabbling with ADB, so will probably just go ahead with the reset and lose non synced app data.
Thanks.

migrate settings-accounts between flashes

Been flashing ROMs for awhile now on a Samsung tablet device.
Everything is great with one exception - I have 20+ Google accounts monitoring various emails...
Installing a new ROM clean, means manually reentering all these accounts.
I don't mind loosing the apps on a fresh install, its the passwords and accounts fiasco that gets me down
I have Titanium Backup Pro and a port of Lollipop at the moment. Read an article on"Touch & Go" style port between two NFC devices.
In my case its only to restore all Lollipop- Settings - Accounts data on the same device after flashing a new ROM.
What's a slick way of doing that please?

The wisest will tell you not to. Depending on the rom these settings are handled very differently and could cause huge issues. With that many accounts I would honestly advise you not to be flashing roms unless you have the time to restore each account one by one

Google app & settings backup

Hi everyone,
In the last 6 months I've been going back and forth between phones a lot (mainly because of a temperamental GS6, that got replaced by a GS7 last week). To be honest, I never really cared about backing up anything on my Android devices in the past because I would still use an iPhone as a main device (I know, I know...). Now though, my Android has become my main device and I want to back things up as seamlessly as I can - say what you want about Apple and iOS, but as a Mac user, backup is something they do really well.
I've noticed that even if I checked off everything that I had to, nothing got backed up to my account: no Wifi passwords, no app data, nothing. I did see the devices to restore from when I booted a new phone, but selecting one or another backup only asked me which apps I wanted to re-install; once done, no app data was restored. I mean, I can go to Play and re-install apps myself... the whole point is to recover my DATA in the apps... And as I mentioned, all my passwords needed to be input manually and so on.
I'm not talking about contacts or calendars, those are fine; I'm just interested in app data. Did I miss something? Am I misunderstanding what I can and cannot back up?
Thanks!
PS: I know of and have used things like Titanium, but both my GS6 and GS7 are not rooted, and I can't (because of a stupid rule from Canadian Banks of all things...) so those are not an option. I find it hard to believe there are no solutions in 2016 to back up my app data. All the backup apps I've tried back up the APKs but not the data.
Helium backup doesn't require root, so I recommend trying it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup it's not as good as titanium backup though.

Thanks, I've tried it but it doesn't keep application data either just the APKs
You will have to have root for this. This is due to the security of the data partition where the apps and data are being restored. Google does back up the info with apps or so they say but I have never seen it work outside of the nexus line due to oem messing with the code.
