1) First of all, you need to download and install APK MANAGER:

3) Go to the apk manager folder and place the framework-res.apk file in the folder "place-apk-here-for-modding".
4) In the apk manager folder, double click on the file "Script". A cmd window will open.
5) Where it says "Please make your decision", write "22" (Set current project) and enter. Then enter "1" (to choose the first apk) and enter. Then enter "9" (Decompile apk) and enter.
The script will decompile the framework-res.apk.
6) Now go to your apk manager folder, go to projects\framework-res\res\anim\.
In this folder there are the animations of your rom. They consist in some .xml files decompiled.
7) Download this: http://www.mediafire.com/?9pf469gjjtpz9qf
8) Copy the files from the folder "anim" of the zip downloaded into the anim folder and you are asked to replace the files; choose yes.
9) Now go to your apk manager folder, go to projects\framework-res\res\values\. Edit the file integers.xml.
Modify the values in those lines:

First let me note that all credit goes to FxN. I simply am updating the code for the Droid 2. Thank you for all the work you did FxN. Also, this is only for DeOdexed phones.
NOTE BEFORE YOU START:
Standard disclaimer, I don't guarantee anything that might happen after following these steps, and I mean anything!! These steps worked for me and I have tried to include every minute step!
1. Connect phone using USB and check that you can see your device using: adb devices
2. in your SDK/tools directory from command line do:
PHP:
adb pull /system/framework/services.jar services.jar
3. Make a backup of the services.jar file that just popped in the tools folder just in case!
4. Download smali and baksmali from http://code.google.com/p/smali/ and place them in the tools folder. Rename the files to baksmali.jar and smali.jar to save on typing later
5. Open the services.jar file with something such as winrar or 7zip or whatever you prefer
6. Copy out the classes.dex file to your SKD/tools folder
7. run following from command line:
PHP:
java -jar baksmali.jar -o classout/ classes.dex
8. Now browse to your new folders classout/com/android/server/status
9. Open the file StatusBarIcon.smali in something like notepad or context or any text editor
10. Locate a line that says: .line 61, under this line it should have something like:

const/high16 v6, -0x100
11. Change this to say:

const/high16 v6, -0x1
12. Save the file
13. Now back to the command line and from your SDK/tools folder run:

java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar classout/ -o new-classes.dex
14. If the above finishes without errors you should have a file called new-classes.dex in your SDK/tools folder now that is the same size as your classes.dex file.
15. Rename the old classes.dex file to classes-old.dex and rename the new-classes.dex file to classes.dex
16. Open the services.jar file with your archiving tool again from step 5 and replace the existing classes.dex file with our new classes.dex we just created.
17. From command line run:

19. Finally run:

On step 11, this is setting the font to red. If you want white change the line to

I've been trying to get this to happen for a while. I thought it had to do with the method of deodexing, but it turns out it may be the services.jar itself. i've talked Xeudoxus, and he's going to take a look. Also, the way he's going to do it, will be incorporated into xUltimate, so that will make this process a billion times easier.

i _thought_ they were in framework-res color but i think im wrong there.
I know that there are some default values stored in the status_bar.xml as i have changed the active action such as preparing sd card and stuff like that. I am trying to at least change the date before proceeding with my theme.

yep, this fixed the notification colors to white. can you tell me what portion of this is for the color change so that i can only apply that portion.

Q : Basic
A : The icons are stored in the Drawable-mdpi folder in the framework.
these icons are linked to XML's in Drawable folder
if you just add the icons and don't change the xml, you'll get nothing.
Q : Why Cant we just Edit the XML files?
A : The XML files are encrypted. if you try to edit it you will get weird characters.
Q : No XML No Edits, Are we Done?
A : Yes, No XML No Edits. But we've a walkaround. The APK MANAGER
it decompiles the apk and unencrypts the xml file.
BASIC :
Extract the contents of APK MANAGER to any folder
you'll have few folders
place your apk in the place-apk-here-for-modding folder
open Script.bat
and chose option to decompile and minimize
it will create a folder namely PROJECTS
now you can edit the xml files
after your done, maximize the apkmanager window and choose comiple apk
HOW TO ADD MORE PNGS :
if you want to add pngs like the battery percentage you'll need to link the png to the xml file
this can be done by two ways
1. assigning resource_id
&
2. directly putting in the names
the 1st method is easy but complex so forget it
the second method is simpler.
just find the xml file corresponding to the png and than simply add the name.
for eg.
stat_sys_battery.xml is the battery status xml.

THE PROBLEM & THE SOLUTION :
if you try to edit any modded framework file you'll get error while compiling.
and your phone will hang if you use that file.
SOLUTION
instead of using modded file. use the STOCK framework. Edit your files and compile your apk
now when you compile it, it will give you few options
1. is it a system file [y/n]
choose yes
2. (...blah blah.. do you wish to keep files)
choose yes
now it will extract the stock (unedited) framework in a KEEP folder
minimize the window
open the folder and delete all the files you modified.
if you had modified xml file you'll also need to delete resources.asrc
now maximize the apkmanager window and press any key.
your modded apk will be compiled in the place-apk-here-for-modding folder
PS : IT WOULD BE UNSIGNED
LAST STEP :
open the compiled unsigned apk and extract all the files you edited (including resources.asrc)
simply replace these files in the framework-res.apk you wanted to mod
only part to take care is the resources.asrc file you don't have to replace it directly
do this steps for replacing resources.asrc
1. right click the resources.asrc
2. select add to archive
3. archive format zip
4. compression method Store
5. select the path of your framework-res.apk
I know this all seems way to complex but if you read carefully and do it step by step, its all easy as a PIE

How-to edit the apks:
1.) Get your two apk files (framework-res.apk & twframework-res.apk)
2.) Place them in apk-manager/place-apk-here-for-modding/
3.) Open apk-manager/script.bat
4.) Select option 22
5.) Select framework-res.apk
6.) Select option 1
7.) Select option 22
8.) Select twframework-res.apk
9.) Select option 1
10.) Go to apk-manager/projects/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi (or /drawable-hdpi-v4)
11.) Edit the .png files that you would like to change
12.) Go to apk-manager/projects/twframework-res/apk/res/drawable-hdpi (or /drawable-hdpi-v4)
13.) Edit the .png files that you would like to change
14.) Go back to script.bat
15.) Select option 22
16.) Select framework-res.apk
17.) Select option 3
18.) Select option 22
19.) Select twframework-res.apk
20.) Select option 3
(Don't zipalign)
21.) There will be two files in your place-here-for-modding folder.. They are called unsingedframework-res.apk & unsingedtwframework-res.apk just backup the originals, and delete the unsinged from part from the two new files.
How-to edit services.jar, clock color:
1.) Go to your SDK folder.. example: C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
2.) Get your services.jar file & open it with winrar
3.) Take the classes.dex from it & put it in your android-sdk-windows\tools\ folder
4.) Open CMD
5.) Run the following command: "CD C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" (directory may not be the same)
6.) Run the following command: "java -jar baksmali.jar -o classout/ classes.dex"
7.) Go to classout\com\android\server\status\StatusBarIcon.smali
8.) On line 34 it will look something like: "const/4 v7, -0x1"
9.) On line 34 change the above to: "const v7, 0xffffff" (That will be black)
10.) Compile the classes.dex by using this command: "java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar classout/ -o new-classes.dex"
11.) Get the new-classes.dex from android-sdk-windows\tools\ folder & move it to your desktop
12.) Rename new-classes.dex to classes.dex
13.) Re-open the services.jar using winrar & past your new classes.dex in there
(Notice: After editing the clock color, it will take longer to boot the first time! Be patient!)

It would actually be
"const v7, 0xffff0000" for red, etc. But yes, you can change that value.

Sorry I wasn't using my half a brain I found my mess up I over looked the "const/4"
I will take it that I don't need apk manager. Just need to unpack, repack, and sign. I could also just use a Hex editor to change the colors on the things I would like to change such as date, notification text, etc.. Just like I did with the G1.

I am pretty sure you can't use Hexedit to edit the Clock. You need to decompile it.
Also, you don't sign /system apks
Awesome! I barely qualify as a 1/2 brain. ApkManager is sweet simple program that does the job. In the many times I have used it, I noticed that recompilation of the files are not clean after images have been change/edit. So I always optimize images inside (option 2) everytime I recompile. Does this help and worth doing?
BTW: what xml editor are you guys using? Some of the ones that I downloaded are crap.

I think you should have posted this in themes and apps section but nevertheless this is your answer-
You will need-
a)APK Manager from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
b) .zip manager (I suggest 7-zip or winrar for windows and archive manager for linux)
c) text editor ( Notepad++ in windows or gedit/write in linux )
d) framework-res.apk from /system/framework that you want to modify and build.prop from /system.
e)Root explorer/Fileexpert or adb to pull framework-res.apk and build.prop
First thing using root explorer or adb pull the above files to your computer.Then do the following..
1) Once you extract APKManager you should have a folder called "APKManager," somewhere.
2) Within that folder there's another folder called "place-apk-here-for-modding". Place you desired framework-res.apk into that folder.
3) Navigate back to the root of "APKManager", and double-click "Script.bat"in windows or "Script.sh" in linux
4) Press option 9 to decompile the apk. (It may take some time)
5) Once finished, navigate to "APKManager\projects\framework-res.apk\res\values".
6) Inside look for a file called "bool.xml". Open it using your notepad++ or gedit
and find and change the
"<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>" to "<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">false</bool>"
7) Remember to save! Not "save as," but save.
8) Doubl-click "Script.bat" or "Script.sh"again, and choose option 11 to sign the apk
9) Say "y" to first option.
10) When that is done, a new folder called "keep" will be created. Open that folder, and delete resource.arsc.
11) Say "y" to the last option.
12) It will ask you to press any key, do that, and it will finish.
13) Navigate to the "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder, and you'll see a new file called, "unsignedframework-res.apk" open it with a .zip manager, and take the resource.arsc file from it, and transfer it to your original framework-res.apk (Which should be in the same folder)
14) Now push the modified original framework-res.apk(with new resource.arsc) onto your phone /system/framework using adb or copy by root explorer/fileexpert, and set permissions using root explorer to -rw -r -r or use chmod 644 framework-res.apk using adb. There wil be force-closes using root explorer when copying..just ignore that and set permissions and reboot.
15) Now pull build.prop from /system to your computer
16) Open build.prop and modify the line.
'debug.sf.hw=1' is the line in the file. Replace it by '#debug.sf.hw=1'. Indirectly you are just changing the line into a comment by adding a #
17) Now take this file and replace your original build.prop. You can do this by using adb or root explorer and set permssions similarly as in above.
18)Reboot and go to settings>>display>>animations and choose all animations. Enjoy your crt screenoff animation.

11. Once it is done building you need to open the backup apk you made at the beginning with Winzip, Winrar, 7zip or your prefered compress tool. Also open New_SystemUI.apk with Winzip, Winrar, 7zip or your prefered compress tool. From inside the New_SystemUI.apk drag resources.arsc and classes.dex to the root of backup.apk and it will replace resources.arsc that is in the apk. You are almost done. From inside New_SystemUI.apk drag the res folder into the backup apk.
12. Copy this modified backup file to Zipalign folder and run the ZipAlign executable. Then run the .bat file. You will find your zipaligned file on the "ZipAlignedApps" folder.
13. Copy the file to your phone.
14. Using Root Explorer, copy your new SystemUI.apk to /system/app, and set 644 permissions ((rw-r--r--) or (tick Read: owner, group, others / Write: owner)
15. Reboot your phone and Enjoy!!!

Hey guys, I resized the images of the Razr HD bootanimation from 720x720 to 540x540 for our XT910.
The one in the OP gets cropped on the sides. Enjoy!

Does the sound work on your devices? I've tried everything, searched everywhere and can't find why my device doesn't play the sound. I have changed the permissions...

It isn't... always on loud, checked permissions, checked the file is in the right place, the line in desc.txt (in the bootanimation.zip) is there for the sound file... nothing... i'm running custom rom aopk r12.
EDIT: Just tried it on stock rom and works perfectly so it has something to do with the custom rom...
