[Q] CM10 mms + Swype = no return key - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I'm on CM10 (9/19 build) and using Swype as my default keyboard. I love the quick reply option for texts, however, the stock mms.apk causes the return key to be the emoticon shortcut and I am not a big fan of that. I've searched all over and, so far, have only found the following solutions:
- install a modified mms.apk which gives me a return key, but causes me to lose the quick reply option.
- install a modified latinIME.apk which gives me a return key on the stock keyboard, but not on Swype.
- make a template that inserts a new line (with a character on the new line, since templates can't be blank) which seems like a lazy workaround.
Is there any way I can get the best of both worlds here, with quick reply and a Swype return key?

smiley for a return is really retarded. how did they ever come up with this. so where do i find a modded mms.apk? or i have to compile one?
i went to look for a pre-existing mms.apk on my phone, but didn't find one. thought it should be \system\apps\ - it's not. where then.
is mms.apk specific to CM flavor, or the phone model, or what?

In MMS hit menu, go to Settings. Then at the very bottom. Soft keyboard type ->show enter key....

is the soft keyboard setting from Mms.APK system wide?

i don't have this option - maybe it's only on ICS? i'm on gingerbread cm7.2. but also - do we think that this will affect messaging apps system wide? namely - i'm not using the stock sms app, but go-SMS, which does give me an enter key. my need for enter-key is primarily in weixin/wechat.
cheers.

Found Enter Key !!
Guys I have found easy way in ICS & JB may work in KK as well (Not yet checked)
Just hit and hold Shift key [look like up arrow] You will see ENTER instead of SMILEY. :good:
Don't Forget to say thanks if it works !!!

i stopped fiddling with swype a long time ago - semc was the answer
i had updated my ROM to something based on the stock ROM, and the sony ericsson stock app is swype-like, WITH an enter key and multi-language selections, so i could stop fiddling with swype, who were hostile to user-requests, and wasting everyone's time with their licensing.
semc_intl_keyboard_textinput-tng.apk
this is from xperia ray st18i, modded stock gingerbread. i haven't tried it on anything else, but suspect it might work on any/most androids.
hope this saves someone some time wasted with swype.
cheers.

[Q] Change keyboard on a rom...

Okay, I'm fairly new around here, I haven't really posted anything, but i've been checking up on stuff for my phone and everything, I just have one question. I have the rom Nonsensikal. How can I get the keyboard from KaosFroyo V36 onto my Nonsensikal rom?
I know there is a few threads, but I would like to hear it again on this one, I would also like to change the keyboard. I know your supposed to download the keyboard you want, and on most 2.1 roms you have to change the keyboard apk to lLatinIME.apk i believe
Yeah, I'm just not sure how to go about downloading the one I want? Or, even putting it on my rom?
it really depends on what keyboard...if your are just adding one like swype or any other keyboard from the market you just install it like any other app and then go in settings/keyboard and check the box to enable it. Then long press on a text input area such as an email or any where you would type and it will bring up an option for input method where you can choose the keyboard you want to use. If you want to use the droidx keyboard or another "hacked keyboard" then there should be instructions in the thread where you get it for installing it.

Okay, Maybe you can help me out here then. Which keyboard is used in KaosFoyo V36? because that's the keyboard I want. and when I looked at the droidX keyboard. all it says is push it to "location" but how do I do that?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764021&page=8
about 4 posts down, there is a flashable .zip you can use rom manager to flash. Once your phone boots back up, long press in the box you type, and select multi-touch for the imput method.
droidx-signed.zip i beleive is the name of the file.
Further along in the post is a grey type version, though i have not been able to get that one to work, aborts install and FC's on my constantly.. so I am just sticking with the white one.

[SOLVED] Phone app number layout in GinTonic.SE

I'm running GinTonic.SE v2.5.1 on my X10 mini pro, which is great. The number dial pad in the Phone app has a broken layout though - dial keys are cut off.
How can I fix this?
Here's a screenshot to illustrate the problem.
Same here. I think that's related to the resize of the phone.apk to show (part of) the autocomplete (smart dialer) feature...
I tried replacing Phone.apk with the one from the Flame.E ROM (which is not having the layout problem), but no improvement...
What else could I try?
(What is the smart dialer autocomplete btw?)
Are you sure that replacing phone.apk succeded? I think this is not something you can simply substitute...

It's an autocomplete feature that works like T9 for SMS messages: you type (part of) the contact name on the phone keyboard, and the dialer finds that for you... but you can see it (very small) between the dial pad and the numbers at the top...

Pretty sure. I replaced Phone.apk and removed Phone.odex in the original zip and reinstalled from scratch, to avoid problems with r/o file systems, files in use etc.

Ah, now I see it - thanks, I had no clue about this!
Not very useful at that size though.
The size is a "known" issue... if you look at the first post (by slade):
smart dialer added (but layout switch not yet working 100% so you only see top of it, working on it though)

Sadly, no more updates since then, we'll have to wait
next update will include resized smart dialer ...

Finally looking in the right place, I found a solution for the broken layout. There's a GinTonic setting to disable smart dialer, which in turn corrects the layout in the phone app
Just unselect:
Code:
Settings > CyanogenMod settings > GinTonic settings > Smart dialer

[Q] ICS build task650-aokp-build-35 question about speed dial

I just changed over to task650-aokp-build-35 and in the process of setting everything up again. I can not find a feature to designate phone numbers for speed dialing. Can someone point me in the right direction? Other than that, the ICS build is awesome.
Thanks,

First, update to build 37.
Open up the phone and hit menu, settings, speeddial.
Thanks. I'm a noob so one question. Can I just do an update or do I have to wipe and flash again?

Im not on latest either, and do not have the option. and have no clue, other than what red said, if its even in the ROM.
but if you didnt do a full wipe, then some features might be missing.
The stock AOKP dialer does not support speed dial. You can however set favorites. If you need speed dial just download a different dialer from the market that supports it.

If the icon is all you want - download a Go Launcher EX ICS theme. And assuming you are using Nova launcher that comes with AOKP (if you are not you should, it is awesome). Press and hold the dialer icon of you new dialer app - and replace the icon of your new dialer with one from the ICS theme icon pack from Go Launcher.
It sound like a PITA but it really isn't. I did the same thing cause I do not like the GMail icon for I did the above steps and replaced it with the stock email icon.
I just found a way to do what I wanted. Part of ICS is guess.
1. Place shortcut to app on home screen
2. press and hold shortcut until it can be moved.
3. drag and drop on top of phone icon.
(this creates a toolbar with both apps)
4. tap toolbar to show both icons
5. press and hold stock dialer icon until it can be moved.
6. drag icon to delete area.
(this leaves only the dialer icon in place of the stock dialer icon)
Cool stuff. I am liking ICS better and better.

Does this have anything to do with your original question, the speed dial?
I've tried to visualize your 6 steps above and can't imagine how that accomplish what you want.
The original question of how to get speed dial is answered by replacing the stock dialer with one from the market. The last part is replacing the stock dialer shortcut with the shortcut to the replacement dialer.

there is a much easier way of replacing that.
remove one. replace with another. no need to make a folder with both apps, and then remove one. This has nothing to do with ICS, just the launcher. and that feature has been around for years.
Play around with android, its pretty cool.

Thumbs up.
This exactly what I had in mind, but I thought OP made 6-step speed-dial working. If just for placing the icon (new app) on the home scree, it could be done in 2 steps, one remove the stock, two, place the new one on the home screen.

[REQUEST] Stock xperia keyboard for Cyanogenmod 9

Hi,
My phone is Xperia Mini Pro. A few days ago I switched to CM9, the difference is huge, everything comes faster, smoother generally better, because anyone who is considering the change I suggest to move as soon as possible!
But this is not what this post was to be in CM9 default standard keyboard with Android. The most I miss T9 keyboard layout, a notice on the status bar (or typed text 'will be introduced from a large or a small letter', and that the normal characters or special characters [the blue button on the keyboard physical]) or it can be simply zbackupować with stockowego ROM CM'a and move on? If not, it is certainly a different way.
I also tried to copy the stockowego textinput-tng.apk to /system/app and chmod 644 it, but does not work, also tried to copy the files from the stock rom on CM9:
screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/h5/1a/70/iezd71.jpg
screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/j4/5o/gu/kdf47x.jpg

screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/md/je/ha/3lip2h.jpg
screenshu.com/static/uploads/temporary/qh/hk/6t/pt2pp9.jpg
unfortunately to no avail, I know that this subject was already discussed in this forum, on the other also but did not find any specific solutions.
Can I have someone that has adapted keyboard from stock rom for CyanogenMod 9? Thanks in advance for your help, besides, I think not only me that is useful.

The same for me with Mini Pro.. Also, I cannot find a way to have word completion enabled with the physical keyboard, so I always have to type the whole words. Also accented letters are a lot faster to type if the word completion is available, as long-pressing a letter sometimes does not work. Finally, also the "world" key (which I often use in the original rom to change input language) is not working with the normal Xperia S keyboard I found in another thread. Naturally, that is beacuse the Xperia S has no physical keyboard =)
I am planning to follow your path of copying some files from the original rom, but I don't think it will be so simple =(
Has anyone found a solution?
Unfortunately I have not found it. In this forum, and the other is a lot of posts on this issue but no solution. ;/
I have found this thread on a new rom based on the stock ICS: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852916
At the second post, the author links to a "mini pro stock keyboard": we could try that and see how it goes!
I will try this week end and post the results =)

I'm also looking for the stock keyboard.
xperia pro (sk16i) with cm 9.
currently use smart keyboard. Work quite well. But if i use hardware keyboard sometime the key indicator (shift or FN) doesnt work with every apps (eg. messaging)
I also tried "Xperia S keyboard.zip" from some post before, with out any effect.

This might be it (although minimal chance of autocorrect for HW-keyboard really working)...
Stock Xperia S keyboard port for CM9
I am backing up my phone as we speak, getting ready to flash CM9 and this keyboard... If it works I will report back (I'll report back regardless, but gimme a day for testing).
[EDIT]
Works, but now I realize this is as reported in many other places; SYM-key IS working but the menu it brings up is different, T9 for portrait-layout works, blue alt-key and CAPS indicator not working as well as no auto correction. Still better than after initial install but not good enough...

Mini pro and original Xperia Keyboard with CM9.1

Good afternoon everyone.
I've recently installed on my Xperia Mini Pro the new Cyanogenmod 9.1.
It's more than brilliant but lacks of a very important feature... I'm not able to use the onscreen t9 and the hardware keyboard has not spellcheck or autocomplete feature.
for the first problem, i've solved with a zip flashable file containing xperia S keyboard and i managed to have t9 keyboard in vertical and qwerty keyboard in landscape, with a perfectly working autocomplete and spellcheck...
But when i use hardware keyboard I hate I cannot have the spellcheck or autocorrect, because italian is very reach in stresses and it's disappointing using a long press key every time i have to strees a vowel... with the stock rom i just typed the word and it got corrected automatically.
Also, the sym key shows me just symbols and would be great to have all the smiles back like in the original firmware.
I've found a system folder from 4.0.4 original firmware of Xperia mini pro [SK17i_system_folder_4.1.B.0.431.rar if u wanna google it] so I would be able to post here all the keyboard files that could add the original t9, autocomplete and spellcheck both of on-screen keyboard (so we don't have to use the Xperia S files) and expecially for hardware keyboard...
Can anybody help me?
I want to stay with Cyanogenmod 9, but if I dont find a solution i will be forced to go back to 2.3.4 to have the original keyboard back
Thank you so much for help!

It works on my SK17i CM9.1 100%

Hello to everyone in this forum.
I have the same issues. I'm Italian too.
The same here in germany. Swiftkey has a nice replacement feature, but it misses swipe in vertical mode. It would be nice to be able to change keyboard depending of HW-Keyboard status. If Keyboard is out, use Swiftkey, if its in, use Xperia-Keyboard. maybe this could be solved with Tasker, but I didn't test right now.
edit: I tested with tasker and needed an external plug in, - It worked! but this solution doesn't make me happy as Swiftkey cannot handle the extra keys like ? and ' right.
+1
does anyone have a proper fix for the hardware keyboard on the Xperia Mini Pro, Including the symbol and globe keys?
thanks
Maybe we need a porting from the original stock rom. Is there any way to extract the files from the original rom? I also tried to backup the original keyboard with Titanium but I fail
Same issue here.
I am italian, too.
For a language as ours, it's very important having predictive text in hard keyboard.
Is there any workaround?
Please reply!
I've tried some keyboard's apps but no one satisfied 100%
Thanks.

Click to collapse
yes... it's a real pity that there is still NO solution for that problem
THIS is a simple but the ONLY reason because I can't handle with cyanogen.... i'm a great fan of this project but i really miss the keyboard (which is a must for a mobile like mini pro)... so I'm still so sad that nobody was able to fix this problem ALL the mini pro user have
I think i'm on the right way to use the keyboard but i still need some help from experienced developers.
I've managed to install the keyboard but still it crashes.
I dumped all the system folder from the lastest Mini Pro firmware (4.0.4 built 567 if I remember well) in a zip and installed from recovery all the files related to some keywords (used the search function of a mac).
I've used
- key
- keyboard
- input
- text
- emoticon
- emoji
- qwerty
- font
- slide
and something like that (I can't remember all the keywords but i think they are all)
Anyway as i wrote before when i turn on the keyboard it keeps crashing without even starting (i can never see the keyboard on screen and with the slide keyboard).
I think it's great i managed to install but i have not the right experience to know what files are missing or are disturbing the keyboard...
Does anybody have a clue? (unfortunatly i cannot post this post in the developer rooms)
I will attach soon the zip file i'm testing on Cyanogen mod 9.1.
(I've added TrackId to see if the installation process was ok, just while developing this zip file)
Tell me what, according to you, would be good to add for the keyboard
Have you set all permission properly? Because if not it can't work. And you would have to take the textinput-tng.apk (not sure how it's named) from /system/app
But I don't know if this will ever work, I hope so :good:
