I believe there is also an unrooting method for this. Unroot, and try the OTA again?

Doomlord's method is easy enough to unroot Do a web search and you should find the tool.

Assuming that you were only rooted and made no mods, the root wasn't the issue. Several people had issues with the XT912 when ics came out for it. I suggest wiping your cache partition and trying the update again.

[Q] Error updating to 4.0.4 via OTA

Hello guys,
I received a notification today saying that 4.1.B.0.431 update is available for my device. When I try to update the device restarts and it seems like it is updating. then it starts up and I get a message "The software update could not be installed"
If i try again it re-downloads the update then again fails..
Anyone can tell me what might be the cause of this?
I have Neo V .562 LOCKED bootloader with root and cwm installed.
Note that my SI number is NOT in the list that is in Sony site.
Thanks in advance.

Yes.. you can reinstall after update, and your device will stay rooted
I just tried repairing .562 and then root without installing CWM, when I try to do the OTA update again the same error message pops up "new software version could not be installed". need help
EDIT: Repaired again, rooted, and didn't install or disable any app then tried the update and it worked.
Strange..
worked fine for me..
Damn! still no OTA here
No ota to me tip ,and im on the sony list

i have the same problem with you, the download are fine but cannot install the update, and i have RELOCKED bootloader. my phone is Xperia Neo.

No, I've never unlocked the bootloader. But I suspect Titanium backup or link2sd might be the cause because these are the only apps I installed the first time. Try removing them If you have them and try again. Or repair then root then try update before doing anything else..

This might be silly but.. have you guys tried manually checking in update center (not waiting for notification)?
Other than that, I honestly have no idea.
hello ,
i also have xperia neo v with 4.0.3 rooted. i have never involved with cwm or bootloader... just rooted.
i am trying to update to 4.0.4 via ota but at the third step the last 10 times i tried my neo just fails... and when it restarts i receive the failure message...
does anyone had the same problem and solved it?
thanks,

Lost root on my LG P769 (superSU library problem)

Hi,
Sorry for my poor English, I'll try my best to explain my problem:
I have a L9 Optimus L9 P769 (T-Mobile). JellyBean 4.1.2, software is P76920f.
I rooted it a month ago using the LGpwn method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338816 ) and it worked fine.
Last week, there was an update (20f I guess), and also a SuperSu update (1.51) and since then, it seems than I am not rooted any more.
I have the infamous message from superSu that says "there is no su binary installed, and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem!".
I tried re-root, no luck.
I tried phone recovery (factory reset)+root. No luck
Every time I install/reinstall superSU (last version or previous version), i have the same message.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks
Any idea ? :crying:

Yes, it is checked...
The thing is that it has been successfully rooted, and now, it is not. I always have that message from SuperSU every time I try to launch it.
I installed rootchecker, and of course it says that my phone is not rooted.

Disable supersu and enable again. If still have problems delete supersu and install superuser. Should have root access again, if not then idk. Did you update ota when you had root?
Sent from my LG-P769 using Tapatalk 4
Already tried that (but thanks anyway)... well, I mean uninstall/reinstall superSU. I can not Disable/Enable, I have not acess to supersu settings, it FC after displaying the message about missing library.
And yes, I was root when I updated (20f) OTA.
I just don't get it... there might be a solution. I've checked, spritebud is here. There is a .su file in system/bin/.ext.
I've googled my problem and found people with the same, but none of the fix worked (well, there was no specific for 20f afak)

Well just a heads up, never update when you have root. Will take away root. You have to use ota rootkeeper in order to keep it. I recommend you to flash 20d and update ota then re-root

You have to run the LGPWN fast, don't take your time and read each pop up. The first time I used it, I did it slow and read all directions, and it didn't root my phone. However, the second time I tried, I did it fast (didn't read anything) and it worked. You might just be running jcase root app to slow.
Good Luck

[Q] Putting a Custom ROM on Phone

I need some help I used to have my phone rooted then I got an update to 4.3 since this update I have not been able to get root back on my phone. It seems that KNOX is blocking this process. Instead I tried to simply put a ROM on using ADB. I cannot figure out what is going on when I tried to transfer the file it said "Signature Verification Failed" I have reset my phone. I turned on everything necessary in developer options. I have uninstalled all my phone drivers and kies completely then re-installed.
I have watched Tutorial video after tutorial video and I cannot figure it out. If someone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it.

So I cannot post on that thread, but I did revisit it and reset my phone and went through the instructions carefully.(this time on a different computer) I actually managed to disable knox and get SuperSU back on my phone. It still says the binary needs to be updated and when I click continue, then click normal since I do not have a custom recovery. It attempts to install, but then I get the message- Installation failed Please reboot and try again. So I tried to reboot my phone a few times to see if it would work and no luck. Any ideas?
EDIT: I also tried to install SuperSU update using my sdcard and still no luck. Signature verification problem.

Samsung Galaxy S4 by Verizon. I found an updated version of SuperSU and tried to update using adb shell

Can't install the new 5.1.1 OTA update

The update begins, the robot appears with the bar. The moment the bar begins to progress, my phone reboot back to 4.4.4 and tells me an error occurred. I have factory rreset and cleared cache but it still doesn't work.
What might be causing this?

You need to unroot, and also make sure you have the reserve.img partition restored. If you unlocked the bootloader after the .27 OTA, reserve.img is deleted during unlock.

It's very simple, and the script does most of the work. All you have to do is hit Enter a few times, and let it run.
Back up your data to be safe, and worse case scenario, there is an MSM tool available that will restore the phone to stock.

Use Google Drive backup, but you should first temporarily turn off your password/fingerprint authentication. That's the only way to ensure a complete backup is run. That's been an issue with Google device backup as a whole since 9.0 began enforcing encryption on backups.
You can turn it back on as soon as the backup completes.
One thing I've noticed already on this update is idle battery drain with 5G enabled (connected or not) has improved dramatically.
I would suggest that anyone who re-roots after makes sure to use a freshly patched kernel pulled after the update.
