[Q] Apps Remained after a full wipe - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Something strange happened to my S3 after a simple reboot I noticed that some app have been removed so I decided to clean my phone on the way.
I made a full wipe + everything you can think of to clean, delete, format the phone but after I install the rom I can still see my apps in the application manager and I can't get rid of them even if I uninstall them through the application manager the come back after a restart.
I tried 2 different roms but it happens on both of them, both are xxDLIB .
How to fix that?
pls help me

Try the SuperWipe from "Android Revolution HD" here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334
Be careful, this will erase everything that is not on your external SD-card. Read the instruction first.

Are the apps system apps perchance? A wipe of data WILL wipe all user installed apps, the full wipe script alluded to doesn't do anything that you can't do manually from recovery.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

So you did a full whipe but did you do also a factory reset?

Sure the apps aren't part of the ROM. Depends on what the dev has cooked into it.
Sure you're doing a full wipe vs wiping caches only.
Could also be syncing to your Google account meaning when you launch play store it automatically detects your market links and reinstalls previously installed apps

CWM Recovery mounts and storage FORMAT system cache data and preload .
That fails wipe internal sd card .
jje

explanation
I think I didn't explained my self right, these apps are "user" apps downloaded from Play store.
things I did before installing the rom:
1. factory reset from setting.
from cwm:
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache partition
4. wipe dalvik-cache
5. wipe battery stats
5. format /cache
/system
/data
/preload
/sdcard
* also I removed the external sd.
but still I have these app "ghosts"

Then i suggest as per previous replies to the same question you are auto downloading from Google play after installing a rom .

I disabled wifi/data and sync when it ask for a wifi connection (at the openning screen of the new rom) so there is no way it somehow sync with play store.
you can see below what I mean by saying "ghosts"

I tried Omega, HyperGalaxy and WanamLite

Could possibly be a problem with your CWM installation or any dependencies such as ?busybox

Ok so I installed Samsung 4.1.1 stock rom and reinstalled CWM and afterwards install Omega rom and it worked!!!

Clean Rom Install
Many people don't exactly know what a Data Wipe / Factory reset is. NO it does not delete "all" your data on Internal SD-Card. It Deletes all you user data and settings and stuff, like it says it formats "system". For Example if you Full wipe you loose Whatsapp, but the Whatsapp folder on your internal SD-Card remains untouched, that means you can restore your Conversations with ease. This means you can cause a huge mess on your internal SD-Card over time. This is my way how to do a CLEAN install. Doing this prevents many unwanted issues like Bootloops, FC's and all those other nasty laggy ****.
1. Put new rom on EXTERNAL SD Card (if slot available)
2. Data Wipe / Factory Reset
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik Cache
5. Format Internal SD card
6. Install Rom and enjoy
Keeping your personal Data on your external SD-Card is a good idea (pics, music, vids , docs ...)
[You can do this even if you don't have an ext. SD-Slot. After "cleaning" your device mount USB-Storage in CWM Recoery and you can connect to pc and pull over your rom. ]
And this is probably one of the best ways to do a clean install without aditional Scripts like superwipe or other "flashy" stuff. (DO NOT USE THOSE SCRIPTS UNLESS THEY ARE IN AN INSTALLATION GUIDE)

One addition to above format/preload as well .

Insufficient storage: google playstore error

before anyone jumps on my ass... i HAVE googled the **** out of this and spent 2 days looking for an answer. NOTHING i've found has worked.
i CANNOT install ANY updates via market. the ones i have tried, end up telling me "insufficient storage available" and then seem to disapear. facebook, maps, gmail, and a few others did this. one by one apps are leaving my phone. NO there is not a virus.
i've tried:
repairing permissions via TWRP
cleared cache/dalvik
deleted TONS of txt msgs
removed lots of apps
moved as many apps to SD as i could
deleted old nandroid backups
deleted old TIbackup backups
used leedriod to fix permissions
installed apps2sd and moved apps
im 5mins from doing a factory reset.

You didn't say if you went into 'applications', manage, play store, and then cleared data. I hope you tried that and then rebooted. Same thing has happened to me and this cleared it up.
"We're coming from a pure power source."
tried that as well.
I know you may want to here this but you may need to reflash the Rom and and do a full wipe and a super wipe and wipe dalvik ceche wipe ceche and format system and the list go's on basicly wipe everything and run a super wipe tool and then flash your Rom if that doesn't work then you may want to try another Rom

Try turning the autosync off on your Google accountunder settings(not playstore) then back on. If that fails try signing out if your Google account then readding it.

Flash/reflash various ROMs
deleted old nandroid backups
deleted old TIbackup backups
uninstall/reinstall TIbackup
used Rom Manager to fix permissions

Here's a compendium of temporary working solutions i've tried:
unmount sdcard->install app->mount sd card only work for one download
using logcat to find specific file copy problem only work for that particular file, other download will still display this annoying error.
factory reset only helps for a while, and this annoying error came again.
Repartion/reformat sdcard also provide temporary solution, but soon the error came again.
This is soooo frustrating man!

already tried clearing cache/dalvik, but not working 4 me.:crying:
Had the same problem with my Evo 3D. The problem is that you have to have at least 10% free internal storage in order to install anything. So move some big App to SD card to solve this.
No solutions up until now yet, but the real culprit is the cache created by google playstore in the cache partition when downloading apps.
I found a workaround to use until google sort out this bug. I backed up all of my apps, do a factory reset, and restore the app. In order to prevent google playstore to build up it's cache when downloading new apps, i use an apk leecher, transfer the apk to sdcard, and install from sdcard. Sometimes i have to use market fixer to link some installed apps to playstore. i preserved the cache for updates only.
not very pretty and i don't like this, but at least it worked.
Just verifying...You sound like you know what you are doing, but just in case...
Maybe you really are out of space... when you did apps2sd/Link2SD, did you actually partition the SD card with two partitions? Use that 32GB CL10 and make a 4gb partition (use the recovery formatter, since most align the partitions, don't use winblows/linux), then use Link2SD (my preference, since it's UI manageable, plus apps2sd didn't work for my rom anyhow) and click "Link" (not move to SD). Link moves the .apk, cache, and user data (if I recall correctly) to the "4GB" partition, but move-to-SD just moves user data to the larger USB mountable FAT partition, so this isn't going to move everything, plus it's not as flexible when mounting via USB. Good luck!
Thank you very much for reminding me. I did make 3 partitions which includes 2gb of sd-ext, 1 gb of linux swap, and the rest is fat32. on the sd-ext, i've symlinked data, cache, google play cache, system/app, and user/app partitions. there was still plenty of space left on it (more than 800mb at that time).

[Q] BootLoop Problem !

Hi guys, I'm new to this Forum
Actually, Im having this problem…
It all about my font ..
I was using the fonts from settings > display > font … but then I thought of changing a newer font, and so I downloaded “Font Installer”
I didn’t read the instructions carefully before I download and install…It says **Backup first before you do anything**, and so, I install the font and it change my browser’s font and the folder font (like when you create a folder, it will show you how many app you have in the folder, it changed the numbers too)
I wanted to change it back to my original font but it wouldn’t let me anymore, I downloaded other fonts but it still doesn’t work..
My friend told me the original font for S2 ICS is [Roboto-regular.ttf]…
So, I try and try and try, finally, it allows me to change the font and it ask me to reboot.
Okay, I reboot my phone, then the phone starts and keep on loading at the “S Samsung Galaxy S II Logo’ and I wait and wait, it still doesn’t do anything..
Im thinking of my phone was BRICKED..Then I ask my friend straight away about it…What he told me was it is just “BootLoop” (not sure what is that)…
He ask me to do these steps..
1. Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button
2. It then directs me to CWM, It gave me 6/7 choices… (reboot system, wipe data, wipe cache and few more)
3. 1st I click reboot system (still doesn’t do anything), then 2nd I click wipe cache ( click yes and then I click reboot system again), not working also…
4. then my friend ask me to clear dvcache and clear all data, he say it will lose everything…
What should I do now ?
I've saved my contacts in my SIM..gallery, apps doesn't care anymore..
If so, do i need to reformat my phone ?
It won't help you so don't wipe

So can you go into CWM? (Volume up+home+power). Clear the cache and dalvik cache. Then go to install zip from internal SD(depends if you put in phone storage or micro SD.). Find the file from the above and install. Then reboot. Should be fine then.

Dalvik cache is just for the apps data. It doesn't reformat. Its not much actually. Just that it might cause errors with you don't wipe it. Hmm. Put it in micro SD card then. Install from external SD and reboot.
Sent from my potato.
When your phone starts up, the Dalvik Virtual Machine ( Dalvik Cache) looks at all your apps and frameworks, and creates a tree of dependencies which is stored in the dalvik-cache. This allows applications to run in an optimised state (and explains why your phone takes longer to boot up after applying a new rom, it’s rebuilding the cache.)
SO when flashing new roms without wiping dalvik cache sometimes will result in Force Close issue due to Dalvik VM skipping the caching process for apps as it detected existing app cache.
To connect your phone to the computer, connect it and in CWM go to "mounts and storage" . The last option should be "mount usb storage". Then you can move the file written above

[Q] Vibration intensity controls in effective!

I am facing a strange issue in my GT-I9300 Baseband:I9300XXELLA, Build:JZO54K.I9300XXELLB after a software upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. with the exception of some apps like watsapp and default system apps, messaging dialer etc etc. system vibration intensity settings do not work, they are max always.. like when ever i get msg or call on viber it vibrates with full intensity, irrespective of my phones vibration intensity settings. similarly if i use dialerone dialpad haptic feedback is operational, although its disabled. skype vibrates with full intensity also.. so on.. so here is wat i have done so far.. i was able to resolve the issue by downgrading to 4.1.1. but i think 4.1.2 feel lighter and faster.. i have tried re upgrading to 4.1.2 and reinstalling fresh apps.. (not restoring).. wiped cache and user data via power+homekey+ volume up button menu... nothing seem to work on 4.1.2.. so i was hoping if any of you folks could help me out.. it will be better if someone who knows where these system vibration controls reside and how can i reset them, to clean things which could be messing with vibration controls, answers me..
These are app problems not the phones problem. Can be caused by the restoreing of the data that the app has.Try booting to recovery and wipeing cache partition and dalvik cache and then go to advanced and fix permissions and reboot.Should clear up all bad data.

Sure mate. If you boot to recovery you can wipe cache. To wipe data for each app one by one if you want you can do it in settings/application manager then select the app and wipe data if you know what app is causing the problem. For dalvik you will need root unless you can find a file manager from the play store that will do it.This can be a common problem when restoring data. That's why people root their phones to get this type of wipe access. It also allows a proper restore without data problems.

but dude i have wiped everything other than dalvik cache.. only downgrading to 4.1.1 solves the problem.. but i want 4.1.2 cuz its faster...btw what do u mean by advanced options and fixing permissions? how can i do that... just to clarify again.. i have tried even manual fresh install of the apps after the upgrade and wiping cache's n user data....
Those extra settings you get when you root and install a custom recovery. They aren't available in the stock recovery.upgrading to 4.1.2 and restoring apps with data from 4.1.1 is obviously the problem seeing as they are different firmwares.it can be done though with root and a custom recovery.

It would have most probably not have happened if your phone was rooted in the first place. Then you make a backup of your apps + data with Titanium Backup. Its the best there is for this type of thing. Then when you flash the 4.1.2 (if its via kies you need to root again cos you loose it and if its via Odin its full wipe so you root and download Titanium first) you go to TB select the restore option and select "let me choose" and the phone will do it properly for you.
When dowmloading TB on a new firmware after a full wipe you will get a prompt asking to keep or accept the new android ID.Always restore the old one so you dont have problems with old backups and data.
Fixing these things before root is more difficult cos you already have the data backup. You may need to full wipe back to stock then root and try again. It depends on you if you want to try it installing some apps without data. Some like viber and FB dont need data for example as you can just sign back in.If you dont want to loose games data the just instll them.Viber, line,FB,WhatsApp can just be re-signed in and set up.
Seeing as they are the ones causing vibration errors then dont restore their data.

i even tried that.no restoration from backup options.. (zero third party apps after upgrading to 4.1.2)..the moment i installed any third party app the issue came back again..n its for all the apps.. except the "watsapp".. i dnt knw y not watsapp ! i dont think its the problem with apps.. the interesting thing is.. if i create a keis backup from 4.1.2 along with the 3rd party apps,, after downgrading to 4.1.1 and restoring the backup from 4.1.2 does not create any problem..all settings seem to work fine as far as i am on 4.1.1..i think its the problem with OS which is unable to override its current notification/alert settings for 3rd party apps, instead it keeps them to max vibrations!..
If you upgraded via kies it may be that something didnt go completely right. You could always flash the same firmware or a 4.1.2 firmware for another region via Odin to see what happens. Also there are custom ROMs which take out all of these bugs that stock firmwares can sometimes have.
I can confirm an oddness with haptic feedback in 4.1.2 when compared to 4.1.1.
Seems like it's somewhat more intense in general.
In apps, such as emulators, that have the option to have vibration when pressing a button the intensity is too high, clearly not the one I have in my settings, which was at lowest.
Even if you disable it it'll be on when dragging icons etc.
I upgraded from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via Kies and did full reset to no avail.
My region update is Portugal and build JZO54K.I9300XXELLA. Other regions such as Nordic countries XXELL4 makes no difference, so I guess we'll have to wait for a fix.

Flashing ROM Gone Wrong!

Hey guys,
I was running LiquidSmooth v2.9 previously, and thought I would try some of the other mods. Heard a lot about SlimBean so gave the lastest version a try (Build 7). Right off the bat, the ROM was highly unstable. It would crash randomly and often. After a few hard reboots (Power+Home button), the ROM just refused to start up - it would get stuck on the boot screen logo. I tried clearing the cache + Dalvik, but no luck. It would boot to the 'Android is optimizing app' bit but would get stuck at "starting apps" after it finished optimizing.
I had Illusion ROM on the phone, so flashed that, wiped the cache + Dalvik, but the phone is behaving in similar fashion. It gets stuck on the boot screen logo, or at the "starting apps" bit if i clear the Dalvik the cache.
I fear I may have bricked my phone. I hope there is a solution to this. Any help will be appreciated!
Did you format system and data before flashing?

I flashed via Rom Manager, and I selected Wipe Data and Cache option - however, that's not a complete format as in my pictures and whatsapp content still remained.
So, no?

It does say to format system - is there a way I can avoid this? My only concern is my camera images - I do have a backup, but I believe that when I will copy them from my PC to the phone, it will loose date formatting and just show them in an unorganized fashion.

I went to CMW and selected wipe/factory reset option which should delete all user data. It brought my phone back to life, with IllusionRom in it, but I am encountering random crashes like how I did when I first installed SlimBean. I am sure it's going to go the same way and I will be stuck again with a bricked phone.
Slim Bean suggest to format/system from Mount and Storage in CMW. Is that recommended? Because wipe/factory reset did not delete my user data like Gallery images.

AS said if you messed up format .
Cache system data preload and sd card .
jje
Factory reset does not format system, it wipes data. The instructions clearly state format system and data

Is deleting SD card necessary - I don't know how that will help especially since it only has images and other media.
I will try formatting system, data, and preload. Should do something else - like erasing the currently installed ROM and put it back again? No idea how to do that though. Should I flash the ROM again, regardless?

No leave the sd card only format if you have problems .
Use the How to return to stock for warranty guide to restore your phone .
I suggest you then read the basic faqs and guides before flashing anything .

camera images are stored on /sdcard not /system.
This is quite a basic understanding of layout. Please read the "read before rooting" thread in my signature. It has all the basic info you need to know.
I performed format/system/data/preload/cache, wiped dalvik and normal cache, and reset to factory settings. Installed Slim bean along with Slim Gapps. It seems to be working, or rather I am getting prolonged used out of it before it crashes. It has only crashed once for me (I was just browsing the homescreen), but I haven't used the phone frequently due to work.
I don't think the problem is solved. Could it be related to emmc chip?

Rom not chip flash stock rom and test .

I have had two crashes so far, but since the past 5-6 hours, it is going steady. Slim Bean is quite slow, especially compared to LS, but I am not if it's the ROM or if the system is performing optimally.
Anyways, if I have another crash, I will install the stock and give it a try. Will keep this thread updated.

Ultimate wipe?

Hi guys!
I've been fiddling around with different ROMs. With every new rom I install, I always wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache + Dalvik cache.
However, it seems there still are files lingering from earlier versions (eg. wallpaper settings).
Is it possible, and if so how, to do an ultimate reset, to make the phone as bare as possible before installing a new rom?
I've tried using CM recovery, TWRP, CWM, and others based on earlier mentioned recoveries. Right now I'm running the latest Candy 5 (infected) + CWM
It's not quick but if you encrypt before wiping it that is one way. I've always reccomended doing this when selling your device.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
usually I do a full wipe with TWRP (go advanced wipe and check everything including internal sdcard), this will wipe everything you have on the phone like pics and other stuff, so make sure TO COPY THEM FIRST, the are not included in a nandroid backup, had to learn that the hard way
There's no better wipe then what you do (except formatting sd card).
I think the settings that stay between flashing are the one restored by your Google account.
Uncheck backup / restore from Google settings next time you install a rom and it should be all new !

I'm quite sure it's more than just the google back-up files lounging around, but I'll make sure to try and set it up as a new phone next time around. Thank you for your help

If you mean files that are on your sd (internal or external) they are not Google's backup but have no big effect on your settings (except for some apps). If you want to get rid of this, just format your sd.
Now if you mean some settings like the wallpapers, they are restored by Google automatically but the setting is stored on the data partition (which you wiped).
Do you have other examples of things that stay between wipes?

Nothing that comes to mind, only the reoccuring feeling of "Huh? That shouldn't be there anymore". However, I'm quite sure I solved it using PhilZ to advance wipe and wiped everything but the boot.
