[READ THIS] A2SD corrupts your phone. - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

So I just realized that A2SD really corrupts your phone. Why?
Because every rom I use with A2SD ends up having the same problem over and over again, no matter what rom I'm using. And as a matter of fact, it's happening to me right now AGAIN after 3 weeks of recovering from a major one. Last one was worse because I couldn't wipe dalvik cache or flash any roms from CWM and had to completely reflash a 5 package with Odin.
Your phone will start turning off randomly. I myself just found my phone off WHILE CHARGING again. The common factor between all the roms I've been using is A2SD. No matter what script or mod I use. The fist time it happened to me was using Jusada's ICS final and now I'm all the way on The Myth 2.
I will still be using A2SD since I really need the extra space. My C++ compiler by itself is 60MB.
Just wanted to let you guys know, if it happened to you, you're gonna have to reflash a new rom all over again. If you can't wipe something from CWM before installing a rom, Odin is your fix.

Just want to make this clear, does your phone turn off completely or does it reboot?

Off completely. When I press the home button, it only shows the charging icon and nothing more.

I've been using the INT2EXT4+ script for a few months(?) and I havent got in touch with this issue. You could try to go stock for a week (with your essential apps installed + another sdcard) and see if this occurs to confirm it, such a hassle though...
To me this doesn't really sound convincing if I were to be honest, mostly because it hasnt struck me (yet).

I don't know. It keeps happening to me constantly. I just finished reflashing Myth 2 again. The script I was using before was INT2EXT+. Going to do the same thing all over again. I'm not sure if its the SD because this happened way back in the Jusada days and back then I had just recently bought my phone + SD.
Even while using S2E on CM7 and while I was using DT's A2SD when I first started using Myth 2. Not really sure how it's possible. This is my only theory.

Yep I also have issues with different A2SDs.
S2E
After a reboot my sd-ext is not mounted. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
Darktremor's A2SD
Random bootloop after a reboot. Had to completely restore CWM backup
INT2EXT/4
After a reboot, sd-card is only mounted as R/O. Had to use Advance restore in CWM (sd-ext only)
So every once in a while I always do nandroid back-ups. That's the only solution I know. But now I deleted scripts in my init.d specifically Adrenaline Engine because I noticed some of them has remount scripts at boot. I only left the default ones and the a2sd script. After a few reboots no problems so far. Hoping this will continue for a long time. :fingers-crossed:

I don't think that the matter is to be taken as drastically as in OP.
Using an a2sd script obviously puts your phone in the condition to be less stable than before, but some little steps will help you facing it.
1) If dalvik is moved to sd-ext by the script DON'T WIPE IT. It will result in phone not booting. If you are using INT2EXT script there is a flashable zip which wipes it in a secure way (just have a look at the Cronmod topic in this forum).
2) If the SD doesn't mount properly try taking it away and cleaning it (I think blowing at the SD and at the socket will do). It happened to me that the phone wasn't booting, no matter how many times I restarted it. After cleaning SD it was all right... and the same happened to a friend of mine.
3) Do frequent backups (at least once a week). You never know.
Hope I was helpful.

I can safely assume that I was using a2sd far longer than you and for the 3-5 months I stuck with Apocalypse S2E and A2SD works perfectly with no problems .

i've been using dt a2sd since the first time i use custom rom, it's a long time ago, no problem so far..

can honestly the problem isnt with the script i had this issue tons of times aswell with multiple roms.
something on your sd ext is corrupt format your sd card with mini partition tool and recreate an ext 4 using that aswell will sort the issue out
n btw i was getting bootloops and andriod force close alot before i formated
now using Amarullz tho its alot more stable

1. I never wipe dalvik unless I'm flashing a new rom.
2. I've never had that problem.
3. Yeah, I told myself I was going to do that but I kept forgetting. Either way, if you do a backup, won't you save the to-be-corrupted files anyway?

So you're saying the problem is the ext partition that CWM creates? Ext 4 is better? But a lot of people make partitions off CWM and theirs still work fine. :/

Hmm.. about to make a backup right now then. I was thinking of backing up a clean version of Myth 2 but I remembered to when I was already restoring my apps. I guess there's still time.

What's your sdcard ? And class ?
Sent from Ursa's claws.

I already used S2E, DT A2D, Link2SD and never had any problem like this.
But I'm facing a different but at the same time similar problem. By "similar" I mean that the problem also persists even flashing the ROM again, or flashing other ROMs (CM based ones).
WelI, I was testing CM 7.2 SIII Mod v2 ROM and after a reboot the PlayStore app disappeared. I did the 3 wipes, flashed the ROM again and it wasn't there either. Then I installed the Stock 2.3.6 with Odin and again flashed that same ROM and nothing again. Installed Stock 2.3.6 with Odin again, downloaded the latest CM7.2 from cyanogenmod website, flashed it, and guess what ? No PlayStore app! Now in every CM based ROM that I flash, PlayStore is missing. In Stock based ones there is no problem, it's always there.

I've been on CM7 by almost a week now, and I can tell you it's amazing. Very smart rom, lots of customizations possible, gingerbread based...
The only side effect is that it's still on beta stage. This means that has a list of medium and small bugs that could upset the phone user. It depends on what kind of user you are. If you like to try new features and don't mind encountering some little issues, then I recommend you to give it a shot
For any reference, question, problem, read the CM7 thread in the development branch.
hey thanx then i will try today xda rocks...!!!!!!!
CM 7 is awesome!!! But still there are some bugs in beta 1.1 like after a call, sometimes the screen turns black and returns to usable state after a minute or so. There are some bugs in DSP manager and hardware decoding of videos don't work. But remember it is still beta, so no complaints

@xzet2
I too had the same problem. Here's what I did :
(First wipe all cache, dalvik, android.secure (?) , factory...etc.)
1) Reboot in recovery
2) Flash the format.zip ( or better yet, the Debug-FormatSYSTEM.zip )
3) Flash cm7 beta2
4) Reboot into CM7 beta2
5) Reboot into recovery
6) Flash gapps
7) Reboot into CM7 beta7
Hopefully, it'll work.
Can any of the CM7 users tell me what all is different in it as compared to normal 2.2/2.2.1 ROMs?
Awsome 2.3 for Optimus One
Hello to all,
Great build of Gingerbread for P500H.
Just installed last night and seems to be great.
For tethering, download Android Wifi Tether from Market.
So far no black screen issues.
Gps getting a faster lock then with original rom.
However, bluetooth still seems not to work properly.
Thanks a bunch
My device, Opti one from Telus unlocked and using Bell

Hi, I have question about CM7. When I want upgrade from .void and save some kind of image of my system, can I do it without consequences? I mean make nand backup, flash CM7 and when wont like it I could return back to void and use it as before using restore nand backup am I right?

Hi, yes, it is possible, I have the same option of going back, I also used .void, and wanted to try CM7, but I was very impressed by .void ROM, and I have just finish all customizations, so I didn't want to loose it all. Here's what you need to do:
Start phone in recovery, and try to make nand backup (nand + ext + .android_secure) but what happened to me, it wrote an error and that I have to make it via adb shell. You will find how to install adb here:
addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
(Sorry, I'm still quite new to forum, so I can't post it as link)
When you have adb, run cmd and type (Phone must be connected and in recovery mod, and have to have mounted /system - but I'm not sure about mounting ):
"adb devices" - you should see your devices with serial number.
"adb shell"
"nandroid-mobile.sh -b" - this will start backup to your SD card into "nandroid" folder
When you have your backup done, you can start flashing CM7. I wiped data+cache, then flashed "Debug-FormatSYSTEM.zip" from CM7 thread, flashed CM7 itself, restart your phone and you should be running CyanogenMod
note: if you want to flash Google apps (I assume you would), you have to boot CM7 at least once, because if you flash it immediately after flashing ROM itself, you will see .void booting screen and phone will freeze, and you will have to flash it all again.
And finally, if you'll prefer going back to .void, just restore your backup in recovery mod, and you're back I have two backups, one of .void, one of CM7, and can switch theese ROMs (by restoring backups) in up to five minutes
Hope it helps
Man its awesome. Real speedy. Installed yesterday. I even installed Darktremor a2sd. It is also working cool. Moved cache and data all to my SD.
Cm7 though, does not have titanium backup pre-installed. Rename ur titanium backup folder before u install. I lost mine. Got over written.
Will be testing during week end.
Here is what i did.
Downloaded the 3 files from the first post.
1. Backed up my apps using Titanium.
2. Backed up contacts.
3. Booted into recovery.
4. Connected into PC.(Linux in my case.)
5. Formatted the ext partition to ext4.
6. Deleted the Android folder in the fat partition.
7. Wiped cache, Dalvik Cache, and android_secure from recovery.
8. Copied the 3 files into the fat partition.
9. Copied the Darktremor A2sd zip (Do a google search for "Darktremor a2sd zip" without quotes)
10. Flashed the Debug-FormatSYSTEM.zip and the ROM.
11. Then rebooted.
12. Again Booted into Recovery.
13. Flashed the Darktremor A2sd zip.
14. Reboot and start terminal app.
15. su (to get root access)
16. a2sd cachesd (phone will reboot)
17. a2sd datasd (phone will reboot)
Thats it folks.

Update:
No Black screen after making/receiving phone call.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Yes, it's great, but there are some small problems with black screen after calls for me, slow GPS and the most important is battery drain. But its still beta and its amazing on the other side. I am looking forward to next steps beta 3 or rc.
I'm testing it too, It's relly great and fast.. but i've found some bugs, hope that devs see this thread as well(I don't have permitions to post on the official thread):
- Black screen after call;
- Do not save the keyboard selection over reboots(I have to activate a select every boot)
- Can't connect to eduroam, don't know why tho..
EDIT: GPS icon is not showing on status-bar.
I relly apreciate the job done!

[Q] n00b question about A2SD, CM7 beta3, and widgets

hi
i recently flashed the CyanogenMod 7 beta3 found here
I have an issue with my apps, prob. due to the a2sd stuff. i can't see most of my app's widgets, including the messaging widget. maximum annoyance!! when i put other apps such as facebook in the phone memory, the widget appears in the selection screen, but the messaging app was and is in the phone memory all the time..
HELP WILL BE EXTREMELY APPRETIATED
also, i'm planning to make a vid about flashing the cyanogenmod rom to a phone. who's with me!
i'm having problems with darktremor's a2sd too, it seems to be that it's unable to mount/recognize /sd-ext... i've just backed up with TB, re-partitioned and wiped everything, let's see if a fresh flash enables CM 7 b3/a2sd to recognize /sd-ext -.-"
it keeps gettin stuck at the cyanogenmod animation... it's getting me mad!
there was no way for me to get dt's a2sd working on cm7b3... -.-"

I think it is native to the system, at least you are able to move apps..
Correct me if i'm wrong
Am I the only one that the choise of the keybord is not stored between reboots?? can someone test please?
(using smartkeyboard pro)
Moved the app to phone memory and worked fine, my bad!
Well, these actions may help you guys "am not sure":
-When installing a widget in CM7, never move it to SD card, it will be only recognized when it's located at phone memory.
-When installing CM7 itself, don't partition your SDcard, just format it using PC or any utility and install CM7 using recovery "so it won't stuck".
-if the stuck thing still happening, download from CM7 topic a Wiper file which will wipe your system setting if wiping is not working on your O1.

Is thera any way to flash CM7beta4(when it's released) and keep all the apps and configs?
EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
When i connect the phone to USB, the widget crash, and also the apps i have to move it to SD because they installing in the phone memory. Dont recognize the Partition.
Sorry for my English.
question
my messaging app (stock) is in my memory, and i can access it, but i cannot access the messaging widget. CAN ANYONE HELP?
I'm not that noob, I can follow instructions, I erased /system using adb, and flashed cm7 many times, partitioning (needs to be done to get darktremor's a2sd working) and flashing a2sd every time, it's just that this time just didn't work... I flashed again doing a "fresh install" and got cm7 to load, but there's no way to get a2sd working... Using "native" cm7's a2sd doesn't just move apps to fat32 partition?

It's all in my sig. I've run Chingy's ROMs on my devices for a couple years now because they aren't pimped out, overworked, quirky, experimental ROMs. He strips out heaps of totally useless garbage, optimizes them in all the functional ways every other dev does, provides excellent mods, and bakes in the best kernels. His ROMs aren't FrankenROM projects like Synergy, and they aren't attempting to bend reality like uberBAMF. They're based on the most recent RUUs and they simply work, which is what matters most to me. I'm the kind of guy who'll wipe a ROM if just one thing I use a lot doesn't work right.
That sounds worth a try....can u direct me to that ROM? Also, is it worth to do a2sd with the chingy ROM? Thank you for the input...I like cm7 but I like effiencey. Thanks for your input...look forward to hearing your next reply...

I've always thought App2SD was kind of pointless unless you had a need too. If anything, it's more risky because your SDcard can become corrupted a number of ways and having apps out there puts them at risk. Chingy's ROMs can be found at themikmik.com. I've NEVER been a fan of AOSP primarily because of CM7. I've run 5 versions on my dInc and all of them have been unstable and quirky. My girlfriend uses it now and likes CM7, but it's a constant battle to keep it stable and running the way it should. The 2 versions I've tried on my Tbolt either had functionality problems or rebooted. I will not tolerate a ROM that reboots if there's any alternative out there that doesn't.
Thanks again for your input...soooo everything that works the way it should?4g..Bluetooth, Skype, navigation, etc. Also...just download the ROM and flash? And its good to go if I'm coming from the stock thunderbolt? You mentioned everything was baked in.
Thanks again!

There are a couple of bugs in the leaked RUU on which the roms are based. One, no voice mail notifications (use google voice to work around that). Two, sometimes you cannot answer a phone call, you only get the option to end it. Not sure if there is a fix for that one. Otherwise the ROM (3D) was very stable for me and great battery life.

Radios don't come in a ROM. You need to flash those separately through a different process. Otherwise, pretty much yes. The kernel doesn't come running at those speeds or the voltages I have set. I undervolt mine even more than stock. You can see my voltages in the pics I have uploaded to XDA, as well as the time-in-state.
I've never had the problem with the phone answering that some people talk about. As for Skype, voice mail... I've never had a use for any of it, so I can't tell you about it. I definitely suggest reading the thread for any ROM... just gloss over it and you'll see what issues people have with it pretty quick. None are perfect, but they WAY better than stock.

So...I'm about to start flashing the chingy 3d rom...just a few questions if you dont mind answering...I currently have rom manager installed, and I'm using clockwork recovery.
This is the order I think from what I remember to do things..sorry In advance if I sound like a noob. I only flash roms every so often, so I forget some steps...
1. back up on clockword mod backup
2. wipe factory data
3. wipe cache partition
4.flash rom
5.flash radio (optional...where is the radio you are using loonatik? )
6.reboot
??????
also...when I did a back up just now..I get the following...
ClockwordMod Recovery v4.0.1.5
SD Card space free: 2912MB
Backing up boot image...
Backing up recovery image...
backing up system...
backing up data...
backing up .android_secure...
backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Backup Complete!
The line that worries me is the "No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext."
Should I worry about this?
Again, sorry for the noob questions...
And thank you for continued support and help!
Don't worry about the extension on the SD card. It just means you don't have yours partitioned.
As far as wipe:
Wipe cache
Factory data reset
Advanced...wipe davlik
Mounts and storage...wipe system
Flash the rom

1. back up on clockword mod backup
2. wipe factory data
3. wipe cache partition
4.flash rom
5.flash radio (optional...where is the radio you are using loonatik? )
6.reboot
??????
also...when I did a back up just now..I get the following...
ClockwordMod Recovery v4.0.1.5
SD Card space free: 2912MB
Backing up boot image...
Backing up recovery image...
backing up system...
backing up data...
backing up .android_secure...
backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...
Backup Complete!
The line that worries me is the "No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext."
Should I worry about this?
Again, sorry for the noob questions...
And thank you for continued support and help!

The SD-ext is nothing to worry about. No need to manually wipe cache as the factory reset/delete user data function does that. It's good to format /system though. You won't be flashing the radio through clockwork, if that's what you were thinking of doing. That must be done through the bootloader. The radio I'm using can be found in my q AND a thread at the top of the Q&A forum, along with flashing instructions. PM me if you have further questions. I'll respond faster.

Don't worry about the extension on the SD card. It just means you don't have yours partitioned.
As far as wipe:
Wipe cache
Factory data reset
Advanced...wipe davlik
Mounts and storage...wipe system
Flash the rom

why would it be good to have your sd card partitioned? just curious..and is needed for the chingy 3dROM

It's used for partitioning the SDcard to use part of it for the system's native file system. Nothing requires it.

[Q] What the damn happened this phone?? This is kinda annoyng me...

i've used this phone almost 1 year with no problems for cyanogen mod 7.1.0
when i play some apps general i've notice a bit slow running like exactly if you have a pc old that run pretty slow for playing game.
This never happened when i buy first time but now i have this problems from a fews days ago i also didnt installed others apps untyl now so i have no idea where exactly come out this problem.
Thought i have too much apps around 99 apps so i've take decision to format all on sdcard and data, cache and wipe data factory reset (i've also flash from 7.1 to 7.2 cyanogen) and wipe dalvik. Like everyone do usually....
At the end when is empty all apps i tried to install JUST one game and still got same problem.....its running SLOW sometime but i dunno why.
Someone can explain me why do this strange behavior? is a problem hardware? i dont think is something to do on software or programs apps issue.
this make me nervous now...
Can you try installing a different ROM?

Ok but doesnt make sense if before was working fine with version 7.1 almost 1 year (i tried reinstall 7.1 but is same problem) so why having problems now? i dont have nothing on phone right now is pretty clean cause of formatting at all...
So come to think this phone is not normal...
Format your /data /system /cache and /dalvik. Then flash whatever rom u want. I would suggest first downloading the newest cm7 or cm9. But u could stick with what u had if u Want.

Really not sure what the problem is but I just wanted to suggest that you return to stock via Odin and see if you are still experiencing the slowdown.

stuck on m boot logo

Ok so i was having some laggy issues w the x2 and all the sudden i started getting process not working for things like nova laucher and such. SO i went into BSR to wipe cache and fix the permissions. Did that and now the phone sits on the Big M boot screen. Why wont it boot up. I didnt wipe dat or try to flash anything. Any way to get the phone up and runnig again w/ o SBF'g

Well what ROM are you using for starters.
that might be important right.. .sorry.. its aokp 6
Ok. Well if you can get back into BSR, try and wipe the dalvik cache in the advance settings. I never use the fix permissions option. Maybe that did something to your device.
did that too. Still on the boot logo. is a sbf in order

Well I wouldnt see why it would do that if you just wiped cache and fixed permissions. Did you have any other mods on there? Were you using the patched CM7 BSR and not the original one?
i was using the motodx2_bootstrap_signed.apk. Not sure if the cm7 or not. Ive used this on eclipse and aokp

That one is fine to use on Eclipse. But pretty much any other ROM we have (CM7, CM9, CM10, AOKP, Paranoid Android and I think even MIUI), you need to use the CM7 BSR named "MOTODX2_Bootstrap-CM7-signed.apk" which is found in the CM7 thread. That may have been the problem.
really... damn. i dl'd it so when i flash cm10 but did not install it for thw aokp. Just off your thoughts is the cm10 stable enough now to install. i have no prob putting aokp back on but im nott looking for stability problems. If cm10 isnt stable yet i van wait

I think CM10 is more stable than any of the ICS ROMs. But with the stability, there comes other small issues that the ICS ROMs dont have. Its a trade off. Main issues of CM10:
1. Messing with bluetooth may cause phone to crash durring calls. Reboot fixes it until bluetooth is messed with again. (Might be fixed with an update)
2. Storage is in a different location. Not really an issue but its also swapped back to the original 4gigs for the internal. All your files will be flipped after using other ROMs for so long. (not a huge deal)
3. Due to the storage being moved around, apps that are stored on the SD card will disappear after reboot. (will probably be fixed in the future)
4. Flashing ROMs in recovery wont work. If any update comes out, you have to either SBF and update or nandroid back to ICS and update. (again, not a huge issue)
Other than that, I cant really think of any bad stuff. Its faster and I have no random reboots. I recommend it if you can live with the issues I mentioned which are honestly not bad.
Also, with the BSR files, in case you dont know already. When you are on stock 2.3.4, you first use the original BSR. Then when you flash CM10, you install the CM7 BSR.
Thanks JS
1. I never use blue tooth so then i should be all set then.. correct?
2. didnt aokp have that. I know the eclipse rom had the flip flop in it to read right but aokp i had to move my music and such so wouldnt i still be in the same boat or is it different than oakp?
3. i have some apps.. such as thems i have downloaded off of xda. So once installed they will work but rebooting will make them dissapear? is there a way to put these on the phone memory? Also curious i have google drive and have some of these installed on the drive. Will they still work or do they just dl to the sd and still not work?
4 i dont have a problem sbf'g but wondering if i nandroid the a2, will i be able to sbf, install root, a3 ect and do a data restore to get my info back?
also i will take the cm7 bsr and remeber that. Thanks

1. I use bluetooth every now and then but I never turn it off. It seems that toggling the bluetooth on and off or visa versa triggers the issue and a reboot fixes it again.
2. I forget what Eclipse had. Its been so long. But ever since CM7, the flip flop mod has been included in all the ROMs which meant you got your SD card (which the droid X2 comes with 8GB) as internal storage and the actual 4GB internal storage was turned into the "external storage." CM10 reverted back to the original 4GB internal and 8GB external.
3. Everything you download and install on your phone will usually be installed on the internal storage. I think if you have apps over a certain size (which isnt very many. Mostly games), they are installed on your SD card. Those are the ones the system has a problem reading after a reboot. the actual files you have downloaded from XDA will still be there. Just installed apps might disappear.
4. Not really sure what you are asking here. But if you get A2 installed and up and running and A3 comes out, You will pretty much need to start over. But for me, thats fine. I use Titanium Backup and restore everything after a wipe anyway. What data are you referring to?

MD5sum: f62cfe4a827202899919fd932d5246d7

Pete's can be a PITA... If usb debug is enabled and unkown sources is checked just keep trying. I've had to "one click" 5 or 6 times before it works right. Close the program between tries. Also make sure your phone isn't in PC charge mode or anything.
Sorry for not updating this. After trying for 2 hrs I started trying everything. It turned out I had to use the cable that came w the dx2. No other cables worked

Ah, my bad I should have read the time stamp. Anyway yea, the cable is a big deal (even though that sounds crazy.)

Lol oh and btw MD5 checksums are
"The MD5 checksum for a file is a 128-bit value, something like a fingerprint of the file. There is a very small possibility of getting two identical checksums of two different files. This feature can be useful both for comparing the files and their integrity control."
