[Q] Problem with Go Backup - Can't restore apps. Please help us. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So this is what happened.
I backed up all my apps using Go Backup, so there's now about 500MB worth of files all waiting to be restored. The reason I did the backup was that I was to flash a new ROM, which I did.
However, upon reinstalling Go Backup, I found that it doesn't recognize my backed up files anymore compared to the previous days I used it. Researching about the issue I soon realized that the problem is encountered my numerous people, all of whom losing their files because of Go Backup's inability to recognize files from their last update.
I tried installing Pro and the previous versions, but it wasn't successful.
Yes, I can install the apk files one by one, but that would be quite a hassle whenever I'd flash a new ROM. Anyone can help us on this one?
Thank you so much.
EDIT: So I tried reinstalling each apk with their corresponding tar files. Turns out there are some that can't be installed, the games. Agent Dash and Subway Surfr apks, for instance, would give me the message: there was a problem parsing the package. I guess I need Go Backup after all.

I've faced this before and i lost a lot of data because of Go backup. I was forced to move to a much better alternative such as MyBackup Pro or if you're rooted then you can use Titanium Backup no backup application can beat Titanium!

Yeah, in the end I had to abandon my save files.
I'll make it a point to use TB from now on. Thanks.

You're welcome mate be careful next time!

Hey I think I found a fix for ya. I just went through the same thing. I flashed a ROM and boom! I can't update jack even though all my data was on my external sd card. Uber gay. But here's a quick step by step:
1. Download and load gobackup
2. Make a backup of anything at all. It can be 1k of stuff for all i care.
3. Go to gobackup and check the settings you should see the file path (or something similar to it) /storage/sdcard0/GObackup/Allbackup
4. In any event check the path (this/that/sdcard/blahblahblah...) and make sure you have that Allbackup at the end. That's why you did step 2 is to get that folder loaded.
5. However you'd like, I used root explorer to copy and paste it, or you can simply use the USB funtion, but find the gobackup file in your external sd, pick out your backup and place it in the Allbackup folder mentioned in steps 3 and 4. And voila! Open gobackup and it'll be there. I hope it works for you to.

didn't work for me either.
I can see it all mnt/emmc/gobackup/allbackup/newbackup
this is the path the app refers to at its base - but cannot restore from it

guys does not worket for me either im so mad right now!!!!
all of my contacts and sms and all other thing is gone
but i find my prev back up on dropbox
its working but its my old back up and i need my last back up
this app is bull ****!!!!!!

Same problem, but I won't give up without fight.
Anyway, I tried to change permissions, add exceptions in system files, format card - non of this helped. Still Go Backup is useless in every way. Here are some screenshots, maybe they will help someone solve this problem.

Hi. Finally fix that
after flashing new ROM, i made a new backup (from 1 sms, 1 contact and 1 call log that i make me).
then rename old backup to name of new backup, after delete the new backup in file manager. (Ex. "2013-09-12_16-30-18_sms.dat" to "2013-09-14_02-50-09_sms.dat"
and restore new backup in Go backup that contain old data!
Sorry for my bad Eng

thanks

[Q] problem with titanium backup!!!

i accidentally or mistakenly uninstalled titanium back up cause i wanted to purchase the pro version. but now it downloads from market but wont install it.
i have tried rebooting and everythign but it will download but wont install it no matter what i try. by the way im scared to even flash the phone again cause i cant back nothing up.
anybody got any idea what i can do to fix this?
The pro version you paid for is just the key for the app. Titanium needs to be installed first if that's what your asking. Reinstall titanium then reinstall the key.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Did you do a nandroid backup? Only things you have downloaded since then wouldnt be there. It's also a good idea to copy everything from both sd cards to your computer once in a while. Kind of a fail safe idea

what is nandroid back up ? lolz is it from the clockwork recovery?
and how do u check if you have the pro version ? cause i bought it and both have been installed but how do i make sure or be able to check and confirm?
Go to market and open through the pro app. If you can do batch operations without clicking individual apps yours pro. Nandroid is a full system snapshot rom apps everything. You make one through rom manager app. If you mess anything up you can restore that. Make one when everything is working.

attached is a pic of what the market should look like if you have purchased the PRO-KEY(but still need to update) both should show as installed. If it says "purchased" then you are having market issues. Continue to try to download/install either way as stated b4 you need both.
Use some file manager ie: root explorer or astro.... locate sdcard/TitaniumBackup/backup..... (even if you uninstall TB i believe this file should still exist, i really dunno) if you have a file there it should be your last backup you made using TB and ur good to go! if not unfortunately ur gonna have to start from scratch.(unless you have a nandroid from a previous setup if so you'll have to restore that nandroid and then using the same file tree find the TB-backup file) personally i'd start over. Either way thats where TB stores your backups simply copy them from there to your PC to backup ur TB backups
Nandroids are stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup... Nandroids are created in recovery mode or using ROM MANAGER (i believe both are stored in the same place i dunno i really never use ROM manager other than to access recovery mode when certain roms dont have the power menu option sorry) Either way if you have a file there simply copy it from there to your PC as well BOOM! MEGA backup backups! (i secretly put my backups on other peoples PC's as well)

[Q] restore sms backup made with stock message app

Hello,
I was using WildChild custom rom for my WildfireS and created a SMS backup before flashing and moving to m1ndh4x8 ROM. In this ROM there is no backup/restore function though.
-How do I restore my messages? Can I upgrade the stock message app? Or is there any B&R app that can read the backup file? so far I tried many but non of them worked.
Thanks for your help.

Whats the file format of the backup u did is it a *.csv or a *.xml?
the file saved by the stock app doesn't have any extension. I tried to import it in excel but I can see only strange characters. I also tried to rename as *.xml and start the restore with SMS Backup and Restore but it says "Failed:Null".
Thanks for your interest.

thanks, I restore the message in a very long way
1- i did a backup with CWM of the actual rom

3- I restored the sms backup with the stock messages app.
4- I made anotehr backup with SMSBackupandrestore
5- I restored the new ROM with the CWM backup

hahahah thats exactly what i had to do a few weeks ago but in my case i just lost one numer and had to do the whole procedure xD
Hi,
Just wondering if there is a solution for me here. I did a CWM backup before soft-bricking phone and now all is up and running again. I still have the clockworkmod folder on sdcard but no boot.img etc. I notice Titanium Backup is the paid version which offers the options mentioned here. Is there any chance of locating and recovering my sms from this cwm backup folder? TIA
I have a similar problem.
I have used stock message app for backup and tried to restore my messages after a factory reset of my HTC Sensation (stock rom). Backup file is 3MB big and I guess that is the "reason" why it keeps reporting that it is "Unable to restore messages".
The backup file is located on SD in the apropriate folder.
I tried with some old 768KB file and succeded. Sent 1 sms and did the new backup to be sure that folder is asociated with the app - everything is ok. Even though I have restored that 1 sms in order to test the restore function and the path to backup files. Everything works just fine.
Conclusion: The backup file I need is too big.
How to solve this issue?
Perhaps I could shrink it somehow or use another app to read the file? Any idea?
edit: I forgot to tell. Those messages are veeery important to me (business, love, contacts, etc...) so I'll try anything I can to restore them.
I guess I always ask some too dificult or stupid questions or am not being loved arround here
Sensation won't restore

Hi Pezilla
Did you resolve this issue? I did a factory reset of my HTC Sensation and have the exact same problem. File size is 2.3Mb. No problem restoring smaller files. I can't think how to reduce the size of the file because I don't know how to read it!!

Hi, I have a similar problem. I have an SMS backup file from my HTC Wildfire S. This backup file was created on the SD Card by my unrooted and unmodified phone. I then rooted the phone, and now run WildChild on it. I cannot restore my old SMS from the original backup file.
As mentioned above, I have a file with no extension.
How can I restore my SMS messages? What apps do I need and where will I get them. (Total Noob!!).
Thanks

Backup App and User Data Help?

I have been searching for an answer for this question for a couple of days now but have yet to find one, so I decided to go ahead and make a thread for it. What I am wondering, is how to create a backup of all my user data, apps, and app data that I can restore on different roms? I am currently stock rooted, however I have downloaded and wish to flash ARHD Rom, but I don't want to have to re install everything from scratch I just want to be able to click "restore" and have all my apps and data back.
Any Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Because you are not rooted go this route. You do not require root.
1. Use the Helium app and copy the folder it creates onto your computer, it's called "CARBON." This will copy all apps and app data.
2. Use HTC Backup from the app store and backup everything onto dropbox. This will also backup your apps + data. It will be on a cloud storage so no need to push anything to anywhere.
3. Go into your SMS and hit the menu button. Backup all user text messaging. Copy to computer.
now you can report everything to anything.
After you are on your new ROM.
1. Run HTC Backup (comes with rom) and restore everything.
2. Use Helium to restore any missing apps.
3. Restore SMS.
Done.

Use Titanium Backup and it can grab apps from a nandroid backup and restore them. navigate for this feature through the options menu.
http://www.guidingtech.com/13501/restore-apps-nandroid-titanium-backup/
Yes, you can flash a clean Rom then restore your data file from a previous backup. the only problem with that is that whatever problems you may have had before, may be present still. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt anything. In fact, both CWM and TWRP allow advanced restore where you can select portions of your back up to restore..one a time. In my opinion, it allows you to see, if a backup fails to restore, where exactly it is having trouble, be it in system, boot, data..etc. I literally just did this, restoring a data backup onto a clean Rom, and so far no issues. I understand what you mean by not wanting to set everything back up. System settings, widgets and app placements. You had the perfect setup and it took you forever to get it that way. Titanium backup and Rom Toolbox don't always restore these things like they claim to do.
Edit: I am finding the hard way with this phone, that unlike my old LG Mytouch, when you flash a firmware upgrade, non OTA push I mean, it doesn't stick to system. It's saved to data. So if you flash a data file from a backup with an older version, your back to that version. With my old phone, we could swap Roms after an update all day, and the baseband and firmware updates would stick every time.

WhatsApp multimedia files and backups are saved on internal SD card. You are unluckily, because after data wipe you have lost them!
Knowing WhatsApp backup path, you should had to manually copy its folder into external SD, or simply do a Titanium Backup of WhatsApp and restore them when CyanogenMod rom were installed.
Dear Simone. Thank you very much for your quick reply. You seem to be very well aware of the possibilities However I mentioned in my first for that
I did a complete folder backup of Whatsapp folder on my SDcard.
Problem now is a that I dont know on which location I can restore this...and make my old chat history visible again as well as my history.

You have to restore it on internal memory, simply by copying the folder from your SD card, and then reinstall Whatsapp.
So you can restore old messages during the wizard, but obviously, you'll lost newer ones, you can't do a merge [emoji6]
I hope I was helpful
before installing a new rom, I recommend using Titanium Backup :good:
What I would do:
1. Look for a good Explorer
2. Uninstall Whatsapp
3. Delete whatsapp files on you Device(NOT ON THE SD CARD!)
4. Copy the Whatsapp file onto your device
5. Reinstall Whatsapp
6. Click restore backup

Partially agree... new messages received while you are reinstalling Whatsapp will be restored.
But the new ones already received will be lost and replaced by your old conversations.
I'm very expert about, when I do hard tweaking and get bootloops (a lots until now), WhatsApp restore is the worst things, I've always to lost something with Nandroid restore [emoji14]
I just copy the Whatsapp folder found on the internal SD to my computer. After I do a factory reset with wipe all data on SD, I just copy back the Whatspp folder onto my phones internal SD. While installing Whatsapp, it will find all backup data and restore them. No new messages are lost, everything is just right there.
Sent from my HTC One
New messages will be lost

Sorry if this is too late for the reply. I just joined the forum.
I had this same problem. As rightly mentioned is an earlier post, you just need to copy paste the old folder and restore from that. Your problem of new messages lost will happen if there is a significant time difference between back up and restore. If not I don't think the new messages are lost.
In my case I had backed up whatsapp but was using it on another handset till the time I restored and so lost the new ones (or had the option to restore only one of the two). I havent come across any forum which helps in clubbing the old and new messages into one backup/ restore.

Need help restoring a backup file to my phone.

I'm new to this forum so i don't know wether i'm posting this in the right sub but i need help with restoring my phone's data. I stupidly used wondershare's "dr fone" to backup all my data on the computer which created a 15.9 gb .bak file. Problem is i didn't know that in order to restore this to your phone you had to have a subscription, before i wiped my phone. Now i am left with the aforementioned .bak file and i would like to know if there are any free pc applications that can restore all my data to the phone using this file. Thanks in advance.
Have you had a look at this thread?

Hi, thanks for replying. I just took a look. I tried a few other apps from google play since appbak was no longer on there, unfortunately none of them were able to use the file (I copied the .bak file from my pc to my phone's internal storage). I then found an old version of appbak through chrome and installed it but it also couldn't use the .bak file to restore my data. Eventually I tried restoring it through my phone's settings like a couple of people recommended but the only backup setting I could find was "Backup by Google One" (because my phone runs on Android One, which is focused on Google Services) and I could not use a local file to start restoring. At this point I might just try to restore my data manually but any further help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
