The v6 tool downloaded from ASUS worked for me to unlock after I had upgraded to JB.
Glad it did! It was the only way I could get root.

It voids your asus warranty but yes, you have to do this to replace the rom.

i have read about some people who unlocked after jb-update successfully. but one guy bricked his prime doing so... unlocktool v6 is for ics only, so this is on your own risk

After I unlocked the bootloader using the Asus Unlock Tool V6 in JB, I then flashed TRWP v2.2.2.1 (for JB) using the FastBoot method they have listed on their website. I then flashed the CWM/TWRP recovery version of SuperSU v0.96 and I had Root. Worked perfect for me.
If seen some people say you could brick your prime by trying to unlock it in JB, but I had to issues at all.

everyone has fast boot enabled what will happen is the rom will not be signed and will not match the bootloader signature and you will not be able to flash that's what I unlock is for

We'll there your problem. (in case you don't know) Custom ROMS + locked bootloader doens't go well.
i thought the bootloader was only to install CWM?
and since i have installed CWM without bootloader being unlocked, i thought i was good to go.
alright will try out SEUS.
BTW which version of flash tool, and which firmware should i be loading for the neo v?
oh anyway SEUS managed to salvage my phone!
thanks for the link!
BTW i got an off-thread question to ask, what is the differnece between rooting and unlock bootloader?
which one actually voids warranty?

Unlocking voids warranty.
But difference between rooting and unlocking: with rooted phone you had superuser right in your phone, BUT you can't flash different roms and kernel, because for that you need access to bootloader.
Unlocking bootloader giving you FULL access your phone. And this access is so great, if you don't know what you are doing, you gonna brick your phone very easy.
Also bootloader unlocking process is giving you root permissions.

How much? just a wipe data and reinstall a new ROM? And in what situations I can/I must/I shouldn't use SEUS? On my old samsung spica there was a kernel version that if I use ODIN with it the phone get hard bricked and unable to fix it... Some people had to send it to repair.
On my neo I have .42 completely stock for now... After unlock bootloader is it possible to get warranty back again?
By the way, thanks

Simple. Don't brick your phone. Before you do something..read forum, ask, analyse and then do it.
If you already unlock BL...then you can't use officials SE update tools.
But there is many other tools what working with ANY conditions BL.

It still amazes me why people do this. Se-tweak for unlocked bootloader well glad your fixed now
Sent from my MT15i using xda premium
People do this because is a rom compatible with stock kernel and WORKS PERFECT with CWM and bl locked, tested by me and a lot of this "stubborn" people who don't want, or can't, unlock their bootloader. Solution is very simple, tweak a little your update-script and make life easy to all these people who want install your rom and enjoy your work.
Is for unlocked boot loader. Not locked to be honest it's not worth it
Still incorrect as stock is crap and no point if you use stock no tweaks no point in se tweaked

I guess root is only available for .63, .67 and .73

Do you not get a software update notification if you have it check for updates under settings.
You can always flash an ftf for your specific region with what ever version you want.

Sony Xperia S Build 6.0.A.3.62
i have the build 6.0.A.3.62 with android 2.3 gingerbread. i have unlocked the bootloader but don't know how to test if it is unlocked or something else is still required. after unlocking the bootloader, when i powered up the phone, it was like i just bought the phone. it gave me those 9 steps to follow in order to setup internet connection, google account sync, etc. so how do I know if bootloader is unlocked on this phone?
now I'm dying here to root the phone lol. its been 20 hours i've been messing with the phone. right in this thread pratyush suggested to download the flashtool. but when i goto the flashtool website to download the latest version, the link is broken. file not found.
so i'm just wondering if someone can give step-by-step instructions for the build 6.0.A.3.62 and help me to root this device please. would appreciate your help a lot.

the latest one for my phone is 6.1.A.0.452 but all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with 452 build? will i have to unlock the bootloader again after updating my phone to ics? i'm really a newbie and stupid when it comes to playing with electronic devices. but i can follow instructions accurately. sony gives a warning while upgrading that i wont be able to go back to 2.3 if i upgraded to ics. so all i wish to know, will it be easier to root the phone with present software build 62 or will it be better to upgrade and then root the phone on build 452?
please advise. thank you for your help.

You can go back to 2.3 just fine by flashing a ftf. There are a couple different methods to root ics. One needs an unlocked bootloader (flashing prerioted system image) the other does not (flashing multiple times while running some batch files). Both methods have posts in the dev section.

Easiest way is to unlock the booloader and flash the prerooted system.img you can then relock the bootloader if need be. That's for both ICS and GB.

You are able to flash custome kernels as long as you have unlocked bootloader, if you relock it youll only be able to flash stock kernels via flashtool, correct me someone if I'm wrong

If you relock your bootloader after flashing stock rom (which I think is neccessary for updating to official ics BUT I'm not sure) you need to unlock it again and then you'll be able to flash new kernels.

But you need not lock your bootloader. You can download flashtool and then flash the ftf files that you will get here in XdA as soon as the update is released. So that way your bootloader remains unlocked, and yet you will be running 4.0.4.

Agree. relocking is neccessary for OTA updates & since ICS wouldn't be over the air so you don't need to relock your bootloader. But I prefer to keep my bootloader locked when I'm on stock rom because there might be some OTA updates in the future

Have you been on rooted ics before you flashed it? Cause that could solve your problem

No, you have to upgrade to ics (using flashtool if you want), but root gingerbread before, because ics by sony is unrootable (just able to root with flashing prerooted kernel or use kernel trick with for example neo kernel or downgrade-upgrade method with local-prop).
Use that method to root ics and install cwm. Flash the rom via cwm and done
Another thing.
Not quite a problem but why does my IMEI have 15 character instead of 14?

Okay,so you want to unlock bootloader or what? If yes, to unlock you just type the first 14 numbers, this will work. Or was that just a general question? The IMEI has 15 numbers, but for unlocking you just type in the first 14

This is for locked bootloader to root ics, for unlocked just flash a prerooted kernel (this is a boot.img)
Close please!
Look in the rom thread its wriiten that "locked boot-loader should get nAa's recovery". Search for it & ur problem would b solved. & u can always get ur bootloader unlocked which gives u full control over ur phone

[Q] Root Xperia Active, confused...

Hi!
I want to root my active but I'm afraid that I can brick it or something.
I have it with the stock rom and the compilation number is 4.0.2.A.0.84.
Can I follow this tutorial? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118343
Or there is one specific for the version I have?
Sorry if this has been asked before but it's not very clear for me what to do to root the phone.
Thanks!
I would advise you to read my rooting guide (in the stickies in general forum) and to follow the method for 4.0.2.A.0.62. It's really easy, but instead of updating to .62 you will update over the air to .84 (I hope that's working!)

Yes, that's right
You could use the tutorial for .62 or you simply try the program called "eroot"

Nothing to very about brother.:good:
First of all unlock your bootloader via sony`s official website. (i will give the link in .txt file)
Second flash any kernal via flashtool make sure you choose carefully between android versions i.e. use ICS kernal if you are on ICS,similarly GB kernal for GB and JB kernal for JB .
DONE..!!:highfive: I am not responsible for any harm to your device do it at your own risk
Hit thanks if i helped

Why should he unlock and void his warranty by unlocking just to root? That's not necessary

Unlocking bootloader and then rooting is the easiest way, unlocked bootloader will also provide manual settings of frequency which will indeed boost the phone. :good:
Root will avoid the warranty isn`t it . so whats the deal with unlocking the bootloader.

Unlocking is not the easiest way and it's not necessary. You are able too root without unlocking (check my guide, there are many methods) and you won't void your warranty, because after reflashing the stock rom, you can send it to the service center and Sony won't notice that it was rooted

Ya your guide is really helpfull and can root the phone without unlocking the phone. nice work sir...:good:
Well, first of all, many thanks for your contributions. Now I'm more confused. The main goal for me is to be able to free some internal space (remove stock applications?) Flashing custom ROM's is something I would like to but not necessary for now. So... for my first goal, I don't need bootloader unlock???
Added a question

But there is a question can we adjust the cpu frequencies without unlocking the bootloader?

Its up to you whether you want a locked bootloader or unlocked bootloader. If you use a locked bootloader you will be able to flash custom Roms but you will not be able to flash custom kernals. custom kernal basically will increase your phones performance.
Its your phone your choice brother.. Both the method are Perfect. My personal opinion is that you should use the rooting method with locked bootloader hence, it will not avoid your warranty (if you flash the stock rom again after flashing a custom Rom).

Hi mihahn,
I only had time to do this now and started looking at your thread and I need your help. Do I have to make all those steps described in section 2? Can you help me on this one?

Just try eroot first, it's the tool "for all firmware versions". It should work well! Download the tool and follow the instructions

Did you try it on .587 too?
If it's really not working, use the method for .587. There's a link to a tutorial by Abhinav2 and it should work then
