[Q] Might need to leave Sprint need some advice. - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So, I'm moving to a Sprint dead zone and thinking about switching to att. The price will be close to the same, but with only 4gb of data which doesn't mean much because I get crap for 3g and will never see 4g. Anyone have any luck getting out of contract for crappy service? I would probably get the sgs3, because the one x doesn't have an sd card slot, unless there is something better coming soon to att.
I know I could get an airrave, but that would still leave my phone useless out in the yard and probably in parts of my house as well and since I'm always on my phone I don't want to deal with crap service at my house. Any tips, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Airwave
Hey, just go talk time them and tell them that u are moved ng to a dead zone and you will switch to at&t if they don't help u. Ask for an Airwave for your house. It is like a mini tower.

In a lot of cases they offer it as an incentive to stay, complained for my cousin since she hates dealing with sprint and got one free of charge awhile back

All I did was ask for an airave and they sent me one free

What's the range on an airrave, because I have six acres and want to use my phone in the yard if necessary?

If I remember correctly it's 4000-5000 sqft correct me if I'm wrong

5000 sounds about right. Which is only about 30-50 feet away. With mine i lose service just after walking out the front door. If you need it for 6 acres, Sprint won't work for you.

That's what I was afraid of. Now its time to see if sprint will let me go without ETFs. Anyone with suggestions on how to approach them with this request? I just wish the One X had expandable memory then my phone choice would be easy.

Well, I sent an email. I guess we'll see how it goes.

So this is the bs generic response I got.
Hi Ted,
Thank you for your email; Sprint appreciates your patronage and understands your concerns. Because yours is a densely populated area, Sprint is in the midst of a national revitalization, expansion, and enhancement of existing services to increase your area capacity, which will implement Sprint’s Network Vision. In and around your area, any coverage challenges would be the result of construction, and engineering calibration. As with any construction project material, man-power, government regulation, community involvement, environmental concerns, and even the weather can affect completion times. This project is being completed as fast and safe as possible. The below links provide information on the enhancements Sprint is making.

What I've read is by force roaming and eating up gigs worth of data will make them want to drop you. That or wait for a change in the contract that might have an "adverse affect" like a price increase. I'm looking for loopholes myself.. Best of luck to you!

On a side note if you do get out of your contract and head to AT&T, they've announced the HTC One X+ which is an upgrade over the One X. I'd look into that before settling on the SGSIII

I berated a Sprint rep just yes and now they've flipped the switch on 4g in my area. I'm not going anywhere lol. Not like my rant had anything to do with it, it was perfect timing

Verizon to Sprint

I want to start by saying I work for Verizon wireless tech support so trust me I know I made the right choice. I just want to thank all of the devs for their hard work but my time here has ended. I have just received my Samsung Epic 4g Touch which blows dust on the X2 in every way. Why?.. For sure to get official ICS update, 1gig of ram with 16gig internal memory, bigger better display(4.52), cheaper plans and unlimited data usage with great 4g coverage. I only paid $79 including phone and wireless bluetooth earbuds and unlocked bl!! Screen is gorgeous and super fast!! You can get the same deal at letstalk.com.. If you decide to go through letstalk.com then pm me to get the $25 off and $25 credit for me!!

You have unlimited data right now.. but not for long.. trust me. Sprint has jus recently put 4g towers in my area(augusta, ga) which is on par with Verizon so why not save $50 a month!! Verizon does have excellent service but Sprint is catching up fast!! My contract doesn't end til january so if sprint let's me down I have 30 days to send it back and cancel service..

I live in the western portion of North Carolina and Sprint service here is terrible. When I had Sprint, while in town where service was supposed to be "best" my calls would drop like crazy. I could go into a store and service would go away completely. I had the same issue with AT&T. By far Verizon has the better network in my area. It's sad that we cannot get our BL unlocked but I remain hopeful. As per price, VZW is costly but people keep paying them so I'm sure they don't plan to change that anytime soon.
I used to work as a Verizon tech support agent with Verizon Online DSL which sucked hard. I had nothing to do with the phones, unfortunately. But yeah, I have been considering moving to sprint, but, alas, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is just beyond the horizon for me. I must have it. I will soon leave this phone and forum and enjoy the freedom of an unlocked bootloader like I once had with my Samsung Fascinate. Oh how I miss that phone. But oh well. Its GNex for me.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Around here, unless you live in a bigger city Sprint in Northern Indiana has really no coverage. Hell where I'm at Verizon barely has any, either. But then again neither does the Death Star or any other carrier. This area is a black hole for cellular signal. Although VZW is a little more costly as far as coverage you can't beat it. Now hardware on the other hand...
The other reason I left Sprint was because when I was married and the wife went on vacation to Maine several times a year Sprint had no coverage. Imagine my surprise when they tell me that I have an $800 bill because the signal was bouncing off Canadian towers. Granted from where her father lived I could throw a stone and hit Canada, she was still on US soil. Hence the other reason i switched
Sprint was the first carrier I ever had. The reception sucked and I had horrible service. I since moved through carriers and settled in with Verizon since I rarely go through patches where I lose service.
I too still receive the unlimited data since having the plan for so long. I have some friends and family who remain on Sprint and honestly, all I hear them do is complain. Perhaps they're chronic complainers, I don't know or perhaps its the area they use the phone in, but I don't hear many good things despite being in a fairly metropolitan area.
I also receive a 25% discount on the plan and accessories so that helps keep me a loyal customer. If they get rid of unlimited data, I'd possibly consider but so far Verizon seems to be the better of the two evils for me.
Im no legal wizard but I firmly believe if they changed all of us who are grandfathered in it would be breach of contract. We renewed our contracts and they decide to change it? Not only would I go elsewhere but id tell them where to shove their early termination fee. At $250 per month Id better be getting unlimited!

Doubtful that it would be breach of contract because they reserve the right to adjust as necessary. They litter their contracts with jargon and other nonsense so normal people have no interest to actually read it word for word and simply put their trust in them.
They simply adjust what needs to be adjusted and use whatever clause is in the contract that states they can make changes as necessary for the betterment of the network and its users. Even if that means throttling the highest data usage customers.
Chances are though they wouldn't out right get rid of it and force us all onto limited data contracts. They'd completely do away with it if they wanted and when it came time for renewing the contract, it simply would not be an option. I wouldn't worry about this happening though.

after a couple phone calls....i finally talked to a cool supervisor...since Sprint changed my contract "technically" this happened in jan...for EVERYONE keep in mind
they will let you outta ur contract with NO ETF's - but only for sixty days
so if your on a family plan and have been looking to get out ...now is the time!!!

i'm on the Fence either gettin the LG Spectrum or the new Nexus!!!! both neat little phone....back to Big RED

Personally, I would not blame Sprint, they have the best plans and service in the business if you ask me.
Blame the employees!!! We have a few forum members here that can root the hell out of a phone and tell you exactly whats up. The remainder of Sprint employees could not tell you how to boil and egg!!!
I have proof!!! My power botton fell off some how and I took it back to Sprint August 20, 2011. I took it to Sprint and 2 homeboys came out the back. The first thing out of his mouth, "Have you had this phone for 30 days or less?"

Don't blame you. Verizon is a better carrier. Can be more expensive, but better else wise. US Cellular is a regional carrier that shares Verizon's network and they have equal reception (no 4G though) in the areas I go with excellent family pricing and superb customer support. If it weren't for that, I'd be back with VZW.

I'd go month to month and buy a phone off contract with Verizon . But I don't have faith in this network vision of theirs. Sure it's state of the art. I love it. Guys are so thirsty for high speed data, but once they it get, they're realize the only true benefits are HD video streaming I'm glad with Sprints 3g in the North of Boston market I could pretty much do what I want to do with my phone besides streaming videos. And with Verizon's cap you're pretty much only guaranteed 3 movies per cap. No thanks I'm all set.

Not looking for High speed data as much as I'm looking for data that doesn't drop to 1x constantly and can play my Google Music with out stopping every 20 seconds when I'm on the road.. Anyone upgrading to Samsung Note II?

Like me? I have an upgrade available and I figure I should use it ASAP. I'd go for the SIII but no international support (FYI: Note II does not have a removable SIM. grr)
way too big to be used as a phone for me..
I plan on it, though on tmobile rather then sprint
I'm going to get the note 2 on Verizon.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I'm a little miffed as to why the note 2 doesn't support SVDO while it's GS3 counterpart does. Even so it's still a toss up between the note and the S3 for me.
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
All of the phablets are too big for me. Hell, even the new 4.7" screens while very nice to look at, seem outside of normal size to me. I'd probably go GS3 if Sprint retention would offer any reason for me to upgrade my contract, but since they won't and CM10 keeps my MoPho alive and kicking, no need to spend the money.
I plan to at least check it out tomorrow. If I like it enough I will pay full price for it. Now way am I locking it into a 2 year extension when Sprint doesn't even know if LTE will ever come to my area. If I don't like it, I may settle with the Iphone. Either way the Photon has got to go.
This guy is, my photon and evo 3D are both out of commission(photon dropped, signal is rendered useless) (evo 3d, failed digitizer), so, why pay to get those fixed right now when I can buy a beast!!!....with the latest version of Android...and a cool pen, lol, but i'll still get my photon and evo repaired in my leisure time, but the note 2 is gonna be my daily driver for a long....long time

Bought a S3 off contract from some poor fool on craigslist who needed money badly.. 200 dollars was a steal. Note 2 looks pretty tempting, but i've got a while to wait till my contract is up. I have LTE at my house and various places around town and it's pretty nice. Battery life is better than WIMAX. Probably wait till the next big thing comes out.

Sprint's version has embedded SIM....thus outrageous international rates.
I was going to get this, but the lack of international sim support makes it useless for me, I have about 5 upgrade eligibility's that I can't use because of sprints stupid policy of embedding sim cards. Sprint has yet to release a world phone other than iphone's since the photon and I may have to change carriers if they don't release a world phone again.
Maybe later...
I tried it out and the size didn't seem to feel any different in my pocket (I was using a friend's) and probably would upgrade but I plan on moving in a few months (moving for school) and probably should wait to see what area I'd be in first especially since I seem to use my phone for everything but a phone most of the time.
If you're like me and don't like the embedded SIM, pay attention to this thread!

Officially Onboard! Both AT&T and The ONE

I know folks here are mostly enthusiastic about the One so please encourage me for strong reasons to stay...

And from Galaxy Note 2 ... giving up the 3100 mAH battery...
What do you think, if you were me....
I am so torn but HTC One is just too beautiful to pass
I don't necessarily think the One is worth it, but AT&T gets almost every phone or can use the international version. I switched to AT&T from Verizon 2 years ago for that reason, and there has never been a phone on the market that I wanted but couldn't have Well worth it.

Don't do it your gonna hate it. All att has is the best phones and great service and top lte. Not to mention the HTC one. Honestly if you need convincing I suggest you just stay put.

I would do it. Just pulled the trigger myself. and like it was said, you will be buying a full price phone, on verizon anyway since they are killing unlimited plans. And the One is oh so sexy! Time to put my note 1 on craigslist.

Was really thinking of switching to AT&T from Verizon for the ONE. But Verizon just announced that they are offering any phone for 99 down and a monthly payment plan... And we keep the unlimited data. I have 2 lines.

I don't necessarily think the One is worth it, but AT&T gets almost every phone or can use the international version. I switched to AT&T from Verizon 2 years ago for that reason, and there has never been a phone on the market that I wanted but couldn't have Well worth it.

I have to second this. Verizon's network coverage was (and still is) great, but their limited selection of phones always drove me nuts! AT&T used to have a reputation for slower network speeds and poor service, but they're worth it now!

Yeah no complaints about AT&T service here. My LTE is consistently faster than my Verizon friends here in the D.C. area.

Any folks near New York area using ATT service? Do you have coverage when you have some road trip to Bear Mountain or some other hiking place?
My biggest fear was losing data connection when you need the driving direction the most.
Verizon saved me once in Ithaca back then near those wineries, but I am not sure if AT&T can pull off the same there....
Thanks for any comments here.
I am not so concerned about the unlimited thing because my wife will still be using Verizon's unlimited line in our family plan. Not like I lose such option forever.
I'm from Albany, drive down to Long Island a lot, take the Amtrak train occasionally. LTE is hard to come by, but Hspa is pretty consistent. No complaints at all. I jumped from big red in 2011 and haven't looked back. AT&T has been great to me.

I travel from New Haven to NYC everyday and I get pretty consistent LTE speeds.

I'm in the same boat - gave up VZW + Unlimited data, and I had a Galaxy Nexus. Just got my HTC One after a week wait (argh). What a great device!
AT&T 4G (at least download speeds) are so much slower than VZW's (from speedtests). The upload on AT&T 4G is slightly faster. Overall happy with the service here.
I'm onboard too I switched from Verizon and I'm pleased with the service! Yeah the lte isn't as fast but I barely use data... I was dropping calls left and right on Verizon and I haven't yet on att

Yeah but basically you are paying twice for the phone. Verizon does not lower the price of their plans which includes a new phone subsidy, then on top of that they take the full price of the phone and charge you monthly for that until you pay it off. And lastly a $24 financing charge. Verizon is the ultimate scam corporation.
