[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100T wont turn on - Help Needed - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100T isn't turning on. Its Not rooted and is running latest version of ICS (Vodafone Australia). I have tired the below with no results
1. Changed the batter to check if original battery was faulty.
2. Tried to connect phone to Samsung Kies software. Could not connect the phone to Kies via USB. Phone isn't getting detected.
3. Tried soft reset. (Removed battery and pressed power button for 10 sec)
4. Tried hard reset (Pressed volume down button with Volumen down and home button already pressed, for a min. or longer)
The phone has not suffered water damage or dropped. The phone was working fine today morning and I put it to charge as battery level was low, returned after 15 mins to find the phone switched Off. Has not turned on since then.

remove the battery, then wait for 20~30 secs then put the battery back and plug it to a wall charger and see if charging batt icon appears back, if so wait for it to be fully charged(100%), after that try turning ON the phone and see

if the phone is still under warranty u can approach ur nearest Samsung Service center ma8

more detail needed
can you explain exactly what happens when you try to turn it on or boot it?

i had the same problem too . put the phone in charge for sometime . even though the charging indicator doesn't show up it will show up in a few minutes , then you can turn on the phone normally . if that doesn't work . remover the battery and charge it separately in one of those battery adapter chargers . and put it back in the phone and try to turn it on . it happens usually when the battery is fully drained or it malfunctions and shows that it has no charge left even though there is charge left in the battery . in that case you may try the above methods . else you have to take it to the service center

I have this problem, but I dont want to be charged for it to be fixed had it over a year still got half a year to go on contract

Galaxy S2 don't turn off but reboot!help!

hello...i hope that someone can help me....when i try to turn off the device,it shut down and after few seconds reboot?why?
also simetime the phone don't turn on and on screen i see a green battery with a thermo....someon can help me?
Did you find the answer to this? i am sending my SGS2 back for replacement. i have the same errors plus the following.
Phone selects speaker rather than earpiece as default for incoming/outgoing calls
Phone on ocasions randomly starts Kies and Voice commands even if there is no physical contact with the phone
sometimes the phone defaults back to a launcher i have never seen before (it is not touchwiz) and i have no idea how to launch it without it doing it automatically.
The faults you mentioned can be bypassed with a battery pull but they are annoying, I didn't have these problems until i upgraded my firmware through Kies to KE7.
I have an O2 branded device.

same issues to me... I'm trying to fix it flashing a stock rom without good results yet In the meantime I'm waiting for a USB jig from ebay before to send it to technical service
I have a I9100M(BELL) flashed with cognition 1.32 with same problem.
Randomly my phone will:
-go into driving mode
-answer calls in speaker phone mode
-start alarm clock
-think its charging when the cable is not plugged in
-Reboot it self/turn it self on when its off
-wont connect to computer or charge even when cable is plugged in.
I need to send it in for repairs what should i flash? there is no bell branded firmwares or roms.

Absolutely same here, since coming from CM7 to VillainRom.
Never had that before.
I´m waiting and watching it and your results!
Thanks for this thread.

This has nothing to do with root access.
I cannot believe that any problem related just because you have access to your system.
Back to topic, flashed back to cm but problem persists.
It's getting really bad near to flashing stock and bring it back to change device if someone knows what it is could be helpful.
I also have this problem. I think it has something to do with the usb port.
Because sometimes it just scans for media, or it thinks it is charging. Really weird! Then i just put in the charger and it stops for a while. Turning off will just reboot the device. And removing battery and plugging it back it also just reboots the phone.
I hope it is not hardware related...
I was looking for help for a problem I have but this seems to cover most of the problems I'm having.
Mine has recently started going into a strange mode after shutting it down. I get the battery charging symbol alternating with the "battery overheating" symbol.
The only way to stop it is to remove the battery for at least a couple of hours (if you put it straight back in it automaticly starts up and goes back to flashing the battery warnings) or pressing Power, Vol+ and Home and choosing Reboot.
I have also noticed its very slow to respond to plugging the charger in or out. It doesn't always wake-up and bleep when the charger is put in and it stays showing its charging for some time after the charger has been removed.
I was told that the charger should be removed as soon as charging is compleated but surely overnight is the only time we have available to charge these phones!
Depending on the custom rom or kernel you are using, it might not support off mode charging.
To avoid having a "problem" with charging the phone in off mode, some developers decided to make the phone boot up when the phone is been charged when the phone is off.
Going back to an official stock ROM fixes this problem.

As for Cyanogen, since built 23, you can charge the phone when it is in the "off" state. Please wipe out your userdata partition before flashing. Do not restore from a previous backup.
I fixed my reboot problem (rebooting instead of turning off) by letting the battery drain all the way so it couldn't boot anymore. Tried turning it on to see if it really doesn't go on anymore. After that I plugged in the charger and I got the charging-symbol and it did not turn on so I kept it charging overnight while turned off and in the morning it was finished and turned it on.
I also cleaned the usb-port on the phone with a toothpick. It had alot of dust stuck in it which I couldn't see. After that no more problems...for now. They haven't returned for 2 days now.

What kernel and rom are you using? I have not seen the battery overheating symbol on the sgs2.
No, there is no need to remove the phone from charger, when the phone gets to what is considered full, the battery will stop charging by itself.
Are you using the original samsung charger that came with the phone, or are you using a after market charger? Most of these USB chargers do not send a signal on the data lines. When using these chargers, the phone becomes laggy and unresponsive, there is also a delay to register anything on the touch screen. Stay away from these chargers.
For lithium batteries just charge it whenever you feel like it. Lithium batteries have a few thousand deep charge cycles, meaning if you use up all the power, then charge it,you use 1 deep charge cycle. However, if you use the micro cycles for charging, you can charge the batteries a few million times. Leaving the battery on empty for too long will damage the lithium battery.
Can any one confirm if this is a hardware or software issue as i now have the problem when i try and switch the phone off it will just reboot?
The Same issue occurs in my sgs2
hi everybody,
i just got my sgs2 ten days ago
everything seems good at first
then i realized screen standby lock lag problem, there exist a lag between 1 second to 2.5 seconds.
i ignore that due to it cannot be named as a problem, it seems like a bad characteristic
then yesterday , i have faced with another problem
after i have docked the phone to the original vehicle dock kit,
phone cannot be closed via power button , i hold it 1.5 seconds then chose turn off among list, phone looks like to be turned off then after a little while it just vibrates and reboots. That is phone cannot be turned off, it s somehow turn itself on again.
Whats the reason of this problem ?
In another forum one faced with the same problem said that it turned out to be normal when the battery is erased but the problem is occured again after docking.
micro usb connector
I droped my phone in the water, got it alive again, but with all the error(overheat battery symbol, no stable usb connection, reboot when i power off, 100% charged not going away) replaced the micro usb connector with a new one.
Some problems are gone but i still can't connect to pc (kies, debug etc), poweroff problem still happen sometime.
Conclusion: It is not only the usb part of the phone that are causing this problem.
But I do belive its a hardware problem.
Have you phone maybe got to much to drink too..
usb port???
I've recently been experiencing the same problem
When I turned off my phone it switched on again!
And removing battery and plugging it back it also just reboots the phone.
Sometimes the USB connector and charger are confused
Do solved the problem by changing the USB port?
plz help me
Thank you in advance for helping me
This is definately a hardware issue. Clean the usb connector, failing that it will need replacing

[Q] Help please!! phone bricked possibly?

Last night I was using my phone and turned it on sleep due to having <10% battery life left. I tried turning it back on am hour and a half later and it didn't so assumed it drained, so I threw it in the charger but the battery didn't turn on. I left it in the charger over night. I woke up and tried turning it on but it still didn't budge. I tried letting it charge through both my macbook, my chromebook, several different cables and outlets, all for around 10 minutes each. My phone still won't turn on.. Nothing happens when I try to boot into CWM (volume rocker and power button hold method) I now think it may be bricked and I need to get it back to a working condition soon...
My phone is the AT&T SGSII (i777) running MIUI 2.3.7 1.12.30 (newest version) under the Siyah 2.6.3 (also newest version)
Is there any way I can fix this?? I saw somethings about these 'jigs' but is there a way fix it without using a jig and only using a computer? Can someone tell me what could possibly be wrong?? Please help me!!
*PS my macbook can dualboot into windows 7, otherwise my phone wouldn't be rooted
Hmm, LPM might be broken in MIUI.
Try this, I saw one person indicate that it worked:
Enter download mode by holding VolUp + VolDn when inserting a USB cable from a PC.
DO NOT try to flash anything - just let it sit there for 5-10 minutes!
After that, hold Power for 10-15 seconds until the device resets.
Again, DO NOT try to flash anything!
The other option is to find a standalone charger.
And next time - if it's at 10%, put it on a charger!

All the SGS2 i777 phones come with a plugin wall charger, why not give that a try.......
If you cannot find the charger, you can buy one for less than 3 bucks including shipping on Amazon.com

Good Luck!
Something similar happened to me, where the battery drained so much that the phone wouldn't charge. When I plugged it into a computer/outlet, it just power cycled because as soon as you plug it in, the screen turns on (pretty stupid actually) and full brightness shows your battery "charging". Due to the phone not being able to directly pull power from the outlet (from what I can understand, if I plug in a charger and take the battery out, the phone shuts off) it can't charge fast enough, due to the screen and soft keys taking up the charge. I may be wrong, but this is what I think is happening.
Only way I could solve this was to plug the battery into my spare battery charger which came with my two spare batteries.
The thing is I can't put it into download mode or even recovery. Whenever I hold the volume buttons together when I plug it into my computer to access download mode, nothing happens and the screen remains blank and off. When I try doing the same thing and also hold the power button also to access Recovery mode, nothing happens, and the screen still is off. Every once in awhile when I try turning on the phone (which is plugged into an outlet) the 'battery charging' screen pops up for a split second and turns off. I have plugged it into Several different wall chargers (all that are Micro USB including the one the phone came with) along with several different Micro USB to USB cables to try to charge in the computer. It's definitely not the chargers nor the cables because they work with other devices. I think my phone is bricked... DX
why don't you buy another battery and see if that works if it doesn't just bring back the battery.....good luck

If the screen EVER turns on it's not bricked.
I suggest leaving it plugged in to a factory wall charger (not USB) overnight.
Worst case you may need a standalone charger to put some "juice" into the battery. I know Staples sells a universal one made by Lenmar, but it's really overpriced ($50!!!!)
I use this and i love it. It comes with an extra samsung battery too.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung--CGPK..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1325639756&sr=1-1
If anything, head to an AT&T store and pop the battery out of their test phone and put it into yours. See what happens, sounds like there's an issue with the charger or battery.

Edit. I used a jig though.

Thanks for all the help! I ended up going to the at&t store and they told me the battery was defective. The guy was super nice and even though he saw my phone was rooted and had a custom rom he just told me that I probably should unroot only for the warranty but gave me a new battery for free anyway and was very nice about it. I also bought a jig just incase anything goes wrong again. But seriously, thanks to all of you!!

Empty battery

Hi everyone,
I have search in many topics and didn't find the answer of my problem.
It has starts with my Rom (Omega v19.1) which has suddenly decided to failed the com.android.phone process. After tried many issues, I finally decided to bring my phone back to old parameters : first flash siyah kernel then flash Criskelo-Servan V12 Rom.
But when I have flashed Siyah Kernel (using CWM), the Siyah logo was just "flashing", like blinking.
Few minutes after, the battery was fully empty. There was no way to restart the phone, even in Download mode which shows me the "Low battery. Can't Download" text. If i just plug the battery, it shows the battery logo fully empty with the ring (the same when your computer is lagging), which isn't turning.
By quiclky testing in a store with another GSII, Download mode was working, so my battery seems to be too weak to restart.
I have tried MichalAmrs method, it doesn't work, by plugging to a Computer or to the wall.
MichaelAmrs said:
Try this-
Take out the battery, then press and hold the ON button for 7-10 seconds (the longer the better). Reinsert the battery, then press ON button to start it. This is a soft reset, and wipes the temporary memory and empties all remaining power in the circuits. This helps on many phones and even laptops that won't start properly or show anything on screen.
If this does not work, try the next step. Again, do as above. But after inserting the battery, do not turn the phone on, but press and hold the ON button and the HOME button at the same time for 7-10 seconds. This is a hard reset, and works best if done after a soft reset. Just be sure the battery has at least some juice in it and isn't empty. If possible, try with another battery if this does not work.

Someone has an issue ? I thought that flash siyah kernel again using Download mode (with another battery) could solve my problem, but I am not sure it will brings the battery back.
Thanks for reading
i would try getting a new battery to see if the battery or phone is the problem
I would borrow the battery from that other SII for a minute and check if my batt is dead or the usb flex is busted.

Back again,
I have bought a new official battery (2000mAh).
When I plug my phone I can now see the charging logo during few minutes (before, I could just see it 20 seconds). But the phone still not charging, and the Download mode also give me the same message "low battery. Can't Download".
So ... what is the problem ? I know it's not very common ...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 won't turn on after so many ways (Literally dead)

Okay so I have my Samsung Galaxy S3 for about 2 years now and it's having a lot of problems for the past few months. At first it had the sudden death syndrome (when it suddenly shuts down and having that boot cycle on the Samsung logo) and now it's fine. But 4 days ago I was sleeping and forgot to charge my phone. When I woke up and plugged in the charger it was charging just fine. When the battery indicator shows 100% I tried to turn it on and nothing happen. Just nothing. I plugged in the charger back and still nothing. The screen was completely black. No vibrations. I tried to go into the recovery mode and I can't. I've googled some ways including taking the battery out, pressing the power button for a minute and put the battery back in. Still nothing. I've tried like ALL WAYS to turn it back on. I took my battery and put it in my sister's phone and it worked just fine. So I know it's the hardware problem and I know it's not the power button too because I tried to turn it on by using the charger (plug in the charger and pressing the volume down and home button) and still nothing. I don't know what to do because I have so many things in my phone and I don't want to do any factory reset (if possible) by sending it for repair. But if I still have some options please tell me otherwise I have to get a new phone although I really need my old phone back. Thanks.

Usb jig or repair centre, given the other problems you're best off getting a new phone.

[Q] Galaxy S2 wont charge, wont turn on but gets warm

My Galaxy S2 appeared to be working fine with no issues but during a charge one day, I noticed it had gone black and wouldn't turn on. I swapped out the battery and changed the charger (both taken from a different S2 that had no issues) and it didnt fix the issue.
The rundown:
Taking a different battery/charger that works with another S2 doesn't make any difference
Phone doesn't show the battery charger icon when plugged in
My PC doesn't recognise the phone when I plug it in via USB
The USB jig doesn't seem to help do anything
Tried removing the battery and keeping it out of the phone overnight, put it back in and still nothing
Tried removing the battery, plugging in the charger, waiting awhile, putting the battery back and straight away pressing power button - nothing
The only sign of life is that the phone gets warm around the camera area when left on charge.
Any ideas?

If this is still relevant (the OP posted 2 months ago)......
Phone won't power on, no charging icon when charger plugged in, recovery and download modes inaccessible, usb jig doesn't help, phone getting warm by the camera......I remember my time on the S2 forum, and these are all (when combined) a classic sign of a HARD BRICK.......
HARD brick = HARDware brick
SOFT brick = SOFTware brick
SOFT brick......usually recoverable
HARD brick......start using your phone as a paperweight......
Sorry mate, but unless you're prepared to spend out on a new motherboard, you ain't fixing it.....

Thanks Keith & all.. it was indeed a goner. An expert took a look at it and found that the cause of the issue was the EMMC chip where the data is stored. Unfortunately it is too tedious/complicated to replace due to how it is soldered to the board (requires specialised equipment etc) so it was a choice of replacing the entire board or bust. Just wasn't worth it for an older phone. I ended up buying a Xiaomi Mi4i to replace the S2 and have been pretty happy with it (save for a few software bugs now and then).
