[Q] Google Music won't find SD card music - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My Evo's unrooted. Google Play music was doing fine finding the music on my external SD card and playing it, but all of a sudden, last week, it can no longer find those songs. If I use a file explorer, I can still find the music. 3rd party players are able to find it (even the HTC music player), but google music can't. I've cleared data on the app, I've downloaded and used the Rescan Media app..nada.
Anyone else have this problem? or a solution?
Thanks!

Mine has trouble finding music until I restart the phone. Also, google music has its own folder on sdcard(1). Try putting the music in there and rescan media.

[Q] Music App won't add new music

The last month or so, every mp3 I download will not show up in any music apps I have on my phone. I used the HTC stock music app, PowerAmp, and now I'm using Google's music app, which is awesome. However, each app had the same results. I moved all my music into the same folder on my SD card. The new songs will play if I play them straight out of Root Explorer so I know the files are ok, they just won't show up in the apps. Any ideas? Thanks.

Google Play Music not finding songs

Yesterday I noticed that Google's new music app had been downloaded to my Amaze. However, none of the 13gb or so of songs from my SD card were showing up in the app. Refreshing the library didn't show anything either.
It turns out that Play Music won't find any music in /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd. As soon as I copied an album to /mnt/sdcard/Music from /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/Music it showed up in Play Music. Problem is, I don't have nearly enough space on my internal memory for my music. Anyone figure out how to get it to scan ext_sd?

Well it works for me. Why do u say it goes from mnt/sdcard when u can just skip going to the /mnt and go straight to /sdard folder? But to help with you problem, the new Google Play Music only allows 20000 songs to be uploaded to it. Maybe u have more then that.
But I'm guessing in ur case it's just stupid. Try making a folder called download in ur sdcard2 or extcard (same thing ) if there isn't one, and put all ur music in that folder. That's how mine is setup up by default and Google Play recognized my music from there. Reinstall if that don't work. Good luck!

I have been having the same issue with this. I kinda figured it out today. take the music out of your music folder and have it just be on the sd card. Yes i know its ugly and makes managing stuff more of a pain in the ass, but Play music will recognize your music.
I tried this with 15+ gigs of music and for some reason it will not recognize all my songs. I don't think I'll be using this method as a permanent fix, but let me know if you have more success with it.
Tried Chadworth66's suggestion and it did not work. improperburial's suggestion actually did work, but as he said it was very ugly. I don't know of a better fix, so I think I'll pass on Google Music for the time being.
Could it be that Play Music only goes but so many levels of subfolders deep? Any way, until Google fixes this I'll continue using the (HTC) Music app on the phone. Though I may go ahead and upload my music for backup purposes. I don't really want to pay T-mobile for the privilege of playing (ie, streaming) my own music.
I'm having this problem as well. It recognized my music for a while but when I plugged it into a computer (not mine, I don't have one) to transfer music to a friend, they all disappeared from my library. They're still on the SD card, but Play Music won't list them. They're not buried or anything, they're just in a folder on the SD card titled Music.

Various music players not recognizing my mp3 files

So I'm trying to load my phone up with music since my connection is not great in the virgin islands... Can't stream off google music with confidence... When I connect my phone to the computer I transfer the music.. I run out of space so then I go into root explorer and move the music to the other sd card that has more space.. (From sdcard2 to sdcard)
When I play a song through winamp or music or google music it says cannot playback file not recognized... Is there a specific directory the files have to be in? Also song titles show up 2 or 3 times in the programs... Ugh just want my tunes to play.. I bartend and play the music through my phone...

Since obviously no one can answer me why some apps detect where my mp3s see and some don't...I found my own crappy workaround...
The app Music Folder Player scans your storage when ya start it... But you can't create playlists, which I need for the bar.
Found an app Cloudskipper... Scans storage and I can create playlists... Yay problem solved for now...
I've deduced that if there's a way to scan storage in the main apps (google play, music) my problem would go away...
So... How to Rescan Storage In Google Play, Music?

are you rooted? Normally media refresh is triggered by taking the external card out and putting it back in, or a reboot. Seeing as how you've moved the music from the external card to the phone's own storage, you can do it by using an app like "rescan media". There is a root version that i've used and solved my N7 player not seeing my music issue, as well as a non root version that im not sure if it works or not. Either way what you're looking for is anything that triggers the media rescan.
If all else fails try clearing google play music's cache and data in your settings > manage apps and start from scratch.

[Help] Old music not showing up in file manager(s), but is found in media players

Hey guys
My S3, running Jellybam 6.3.0, works fine, but there is a little issue that I'm experiencing
and it's become pretty irksome.
I had 8gb of music on an iPod that I transferred to my PC, then to and SD card, which I now use for my GS3.
All of my past music appears in music players and play fine, but any new music that I download from the phone doesn't show up.
I thought maybe the music players weren't scanning for mp3 files in the download folder, so I decided to move them from the downloads folder
to my Music folder with all my other files.
Here's the problem:
The file manager doesn't seem to "see" for find any of the old music, despite all of the media players finding it no problem.
Also, any new music I download can be searched for an played in a music player, but it is never added to the library.
I decided to mount my phone to my PC do double check, and all of my music is there in the Music folder, which is on the root of my sd card.
Has anyone else had this issue

Did you try to wipe data and install everything again??
Might be a DRM issue?

[Q] Google play music

I've downloaded music from googly play music to my external sd card. When using file explorer or another music app I can't locate any of my music I've bought.
Is it possible to find the music mp3's somehow?
Anyone help please?
If you're talking about all access music, it is only playable with Google app. Btw, you have to look in hidden android folder, in google play music. Can't remember exact path, but it's there.
If you're talking about your purchased music, might be much better to sync/download your music to your pc, then transfer on SD card. That way filenames will be preserved, rather than numbered, as is the case with play music app downloads.
