Just saw this in Atrix Dev - What does it mean for the Photon? - Motorola Photon 4G

Just saw this post about an ICS leak for the Atrix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928569
I though I read in one of the threads about "seeing ICS news in Atrix" could be good news for the Photon, too. Comments?

There's already a thread running in the General section. Why open a new thread, that too under 'Development' section?

My Bad with all of my excitement I did not look.

First this is the dev forum and your not a dev nor dose your thread lead to anything that is under development or hasn't been developed the hell out of to where its not relevant anymore, second you asked a question >,> there is a Q&A section for I don't know questions and answers <,< last you admit that you found multiple guides in your last bit so.... do tell why is this development with over 400 posts..... Id like to see you come up with a good explanation.....
Are any of you guys mods?? Let the mods do their jobs without adding more useless posts telling the kid how dumb he is

FFS, you could have just answered the dudes question with one post without bumping the thread to the top all day long.
Now, THE ANSWER IS: there is no best way. It either works or it doesn't (either successfully gives your root or doesn't).
Having said that, the most bullet proof way according to people's feedback is the preinstal method, BUT... CWM method and gingerbreak also successfully worked for me both on 2.2.2 and on 2.3.4.
p.s. People on here are right. You only create new threads in Development section if you developed something. You could have just left a post in one of the root threads, or opened a question thread in Q/A forums.
Cheers.

Rooting isn't required to install a custom ROM. Unlocking is.
Anywhoo, the dev section isn't a questions forum. Before you post, read the stickies.
Infraction given to OP, thread closed.

PLEASE use stickies, problem related sub-forums or the search bar!

If you have a problem with your phone or a question about how to do something please or you are looking for downloads (i.e. flashable zips or scripts) look through the sticky threads, sub-forums related to your situation or do a search for it and if you find a related thread read the OP and look through all the comments, they are there for you to ask questions so you don't have to post a new thread and flood the forums with questions that can be solved just by researching your situation, AND if you have trouble finding them then read through the sticky that is related to what you want and you can even use the search bar within the sticky to save some time. That is what they are there for. This is the reason the stickies are becoming outdated, because nobody uses them for questions or problems like they're supposed to. I'm sure I speak for other experienced users when I say that all we want to see when we open up device specific hack forums or other sub-forums is threads for hacks, mods, scripts, ROMs etc. or updates for those threads and not a bunch of questions from people who don't know how to read the website etiquette or rules section when they join. Sorry to come off as a jerk but this is getting ridiculous.

Edit: the ONLY reason you should post a question thread in a hack sub-form or other such sub-forum is if you truely have searched every corner, every nook and cranny of every forum on the internet and have not found the answer. In this case nobody has had the same question and has found a solution which is virtually improbable. Even then you should still use the stickies or problem sub-forums to get your answer.

So why is this in the Dev sub-forum? Requested to be moved. /sigh

I think his point is although there are some off topic questions be asked as in any forum there hasn't been an off topic dev post in the dev forum until now....
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
That may be but this will be the ONLY one and hopefully it will encourage people to actually use the question sub-forums and stickies instead of flooding the dev sub-forum with questions that have probably already been answered in question sub-forums or stickies. I have no problem helping people with problems, on the contrary. I sometimes will browse the question sub-forums and stickies to see if there are any questions or problems I can help people solve because I know, like every other experienced android user, that things can get very frustrating and help from someone who has experienced the same problem is wonderful. I'm trying to help everybody here by attempting to clear the dev forum of misplaced questions and pointing frustrated users in the right direction to get the answers they need.

Wanting to help is great, but this really should be in General. Dev-only threads belong here. Now, if you wanted to make this a sticky here then that may be able to happen, but as it sits it's just a thread in the wrong sub. A sticky also doesn't guarantee someone will read it either. Some of these threads become so cluttered with garbage posts, i.e. Eclipse thread, that it's nearly impossible to find a solution even if you use search. Speaking of search, i always have better luck just using Google b/c the XDA search will give you some funny results for things you didn't search for.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
As a sticky it most definitely won't be read, at least by the people who need to read it but most of the people who need to read it probably go to the general sub first so you may be right, it will probably be more effective there. Apologies, let's move it.
Already requested. Up to the mods now. If not, this will likely just fall into obscurity.

Hopefully they will, seeing as this is something they want people to understand, they are mods after-all.

i think the reason people post the questions is this is the only section that says view the others say flyer, i think they should change the title of the flyer general section to say flyer/view general or make just a view general section. i think it would cut down on all the questions from being posted in this section

READ BEFORE POSTING: Android Development Section

!Please read this before posting in the Rezound development section!
I know this has been stated a thousand times before, but the mass number of posts in in the development section that are not development is getting out of hand.
THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION IS FOR DEVELOPMENT ONLY. If you are posting something that others may use regarding development such as a new ROM, kernel, guide, mod, recovery, or tool, it will be posted there. If in doubt, just post in the general section. Our moderator will move the post if it should be in the development section. Please do not post questions/concerns in the Android Development section.
THE Q&A SECTION IS FOR YOUR QUESTIONS REGARDING DEVELOPMENT. If you are going to post a question about development, it goes in the Q&A section. If you have a question about accessories or themes/apps, post your question there if you like. If you have a question regarding a particular part of development such as a current ROM or kernel, you can post in that particular thread to see if you can get some help. So if you are using Ziggy's kernel, you could ask a question in that thread. DO NOT POST A NEW THREAD FOR A QUESTION IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION.
THE GENERAL SECTION IS FOR EVERYTHING THAT DOES NOT FIT INTO THE OTHER CATEGORIES. If you have anything else that you would like to talk about that is not a question, accessory, theme/app, or method of development, you will want to post it in General. If you post a question in General (even though it should go in the new Q&A Section), you probably won't get yelled at. You will, though, if you post in the Development Section when you should not.
Please try to keep the development section clear and clean for the developers who will be giving us amazing ROMs and kernels to play with on our newly rooted/unlocked phones. This will make it much easier for us to find them in the future.
The funny thing is that this thread should actually go in development... And be stickied
I was going to post something similar, but it looks as though I don't need to

Ha, I know it should. But that would be kind of hypocritical. If a mod wants to, they can move it. As long as people read it and don't post in the dev section, I'll be happy
I feel like xda sub forums are lacking in some extra boards. Questions and guides need to be added to all the sub forums.

Yes, some extra boards would be nice. This will have to do for now, though.
I quit posting in peoples threads and just report all of them. I am sick of telling people so I just click report every time. No one will learn man. This thread will be burried too. I PM'ed the MODS to get a possible warning thread before allowing to post in Development. Haven't heard anything back.

Do you know how much more there would be to moderate if they gave EVERY device extra subforums? I think they tend to do a pretty good job of adding a q&a(or whatever is needed) section when it becomes necessary due to a device becoming more popular. I'm betting the rezound will be getting one now that its unlocked and development has taken off.

As is stated, do not post your questions in development forum. Before you start a new thread ask yourself this: "is what I'm posting a rom or a kernel?" or "is this a guide for development?"
If it is none of those, then post it in another forum.
Thanks..

Yes we need a Q/A thread like the Evo 3D has. Then people can ask questions about development and devs can share knowledge. It would be a really good thing to have. Sorta surprised that this forum lacks a Q/A sub forum.

How about flashable mods like my status bar mod and lllboredlll power menu mod?
Its technically development although not a ROM or kernel but does not really fit in the themes and apps forum.

Mods- Please Clarify General vs. Dev sections

There seems to be confusion about posting ROMs in General or Developers section. I just reported a post and fjasked that a "stock" ROM be moved from the Dev section to the General section because recently another Stock ROM was in fact moved with the reason that all stock ROMs belong in General. The response to my report was "this is a tough call I ll move it but it could stay in dev". So, that is a very non-committal answer from a mod. In addition, this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184817, is an example of previous guidance on the subject. It clearly states that the Dev section is "only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY". I would agree with this guidance. Can we stop differentiating between stock and no-stock ROMs and place ALL ROMs in the Dev section, as stated in the above guidance? Thank you for you work and time. XDA is a great place. I am not whining or complaining. I am merely asking for clarification of this issue so we can move on.
sec
um, your "question" for clarification belongs in the Q section. Not General.
Also, reading the Dev section I think it is pretty clear that it is for rom development only.
Stock roms aren't development...in this case it's a link to a leaked rom. that's it...doesn't belong in development.
So, if the Mod moved it to General it was done correctly.

I been on here for some time across at least 6 phones, and I've never heard of such or seen this done.
It should be like how normal 90% of XDA works!
ROM/Kernels in Dev no matter if its stock or custom! That's it no argument! I had only three phone couple of tablets but whatever forum i went to. THis is the theory they followed! Very simple idk what's big deal about it! IDK why this ppl don't like that!

Your first sentence made me lol. You're right but I thought maybe since it was asking about the General then it could go in the General. Maybe it will be moved. Whatever.
Your second point is the crux of my question. If you read the guidance that I referenced it does not discriminate against stock ROMs. All ROMs are development, as are all kernels and other code. Code can be developed, whether it is stock code or other. Or at least that what I think.
I am anxious to see what the Moderators have to say. They have been very quiet on this issue.

I agree with you, I've been here a while , thru a span of of six devices forums myself also(htc excalibur-tmo dash/htc tilt-kaiser/htc fuze-raphael/the first android OG "htc dream-Tmobile G1"/htc leo/hd2) and now here and all roms have always been in the rom development section, even stock roms that serve as base for custom roms are part of development .
I have been frequenting this site since my PPC6600 and all ROMs official or otherwise have been in a development section of some type. That goes back 5 + years (a very long time in tech years)
I don't know if that means anything to anyone, but us old guys don't like change =P.

Stock ROMs belong in General according to the rules. Not sure if they are enforced or not though.
I dunno why they changed the rule. Is it specific for AT&T Galaxy Note or in general? Because at least Captivate/i9000/i9100 section have 'stock ROM list' sticky on development section.

Leaked ROMs are still not something you made thus you aren't developing them, thus why would the go in development? I understand why people would want to put them there, but according to the rules, its not where they belong.

ACTUALLY, this post doesn't belong in Q&A...
It belongs in the MAIN GENERAL section... I'm just saying...

but yeah, the idea is stupid. they should change the rules...
Lol, who the hell cares? Just post it in one of the two and if a mod feels like moving it, let him. Personally I think any rom of any type should all go in one section so they're easy to find... but I'm not gonna cry about it if the mod wants it in general.
