MX Player Pro 1.6f doesn't work on JellyBean... possible to fix? - Galaxy Note II Themes and Apps

Hello
Ever since I purchased MX Player Pro it's been my favorite video player, but a couple of months ago they dropped DTS support so I downgraded to v1.6f which is the version I've been running since then.
However... when I try to run MX Player Pro 1.6f on my Note II it says "Unsupported android version". Same story goes for DICE Player 2.0.6...
So... is there any way to modify the apps into running on JellyBean? I remember that I've in the past modified my favorite Firefox add-ons (PC) to run on newer versions of Firefox. I was hoping that It might be something similar on Android. Just editing a value in the apk making it accept Android 4.x and not only up to 3.x.

Then why dont you simply use the 1.6j (j is for Jelly Bean).

Because that version doesn't decode DTS audio.

Other alternative?

Actually I am having no problem at all.

That's probably because you don't have any movies with DTS audio... or do you?

Try dice player, but make sure you get v 2.0.7. It has dts support.

My bad, sorry :silly:.

You should have been selecting the EXTs in the setting for it to work.
Anyway have just released version 175 pro and its perfect.

Well I recently got MX Pro 1.7.5 as well (updated through Play Store) but it still doesn't decode DTS audio.
HOWEVER... I just noticed there's an option for a "Custom Codec" and when I select it a file manager comes up asking for a file. Anyone here knows what type of file it's asking for?

try newest diceplayer and search "diceplayer dts" for DTS solutions.

I've uploaded a short clip with DTS audio that you can try and view. If anyone of you guys get the sound to work please PM we with the solution... thank you!
dts.sample.mkv - 11.1 Mb

Ok my mistake, actually I wasnt playing any DTS videos lately, and it looks like MXPlayer stoped supporting it for lisence issues, however my Vplayer which is my favourate Android player can play it witouth any problem as it does with many other formats that MXpler do not support.

Download latest diceplayer and use the attached libffmpeg.so as decoder.
Runs all DTS audio mkv-files i tried...
(remove the .zip extension and copy it to your internal sd card)

I just uppdated to MX Player Pro v1.7.6 on Play Store. Apparently the name of the codec file should now be libavcodec.mx.so
I read somewhere that you can compile such a file yourself using Linux, but is that really necessary? Can't it be downloaded just like the plugin file for DICE Player?
I really like MX Player and would like to keep using it (with dts support).

Even the latest version of MX Player doesnt support DTS files anymore, just use the VPLAYER it is as good as the MX and even better and will play all the formats you cam imagine, just give yourslf some time to adjust,I have installed the latest full version 206 apk and its great.

Anyone found a fix for the DTS playback ? I really need this.

Here's the ffmpeg codec pack... just unpack it and put the files in any folder. Then in MX Player -> Settings -> Decoder -> Costom codec -> point to the folder where you unpacked the files.
You're welcome... /Tubgirl

[Q] Best way to play .avi / video files?

So, I'm trying out various Android market apps on my rooted NT, trying to find a way to play .avi files. These videos easily on my Android phone: drag, drop, and play. But since the NT doesn't naively support .avi (and other common video extension) files, what can I do? Do I have to install codecs or something? Thanks.
Download MX player is the best out there, in the nook tablet works perfectly you can install the codecs for Arm7 only if it tells you to. It support many video formats including AVI by default.

Yeah, I tried that app, along with some of its codecs. No luck. If I take the time to convert files in Handbrake to .mp4, it'll work, but my old laptop takes forever.
Whenever (an it's not often) i get a file that doesn't work in MX Player.. then Mobo player usually does the job... with no extra codecs to install

Yeah, I also tried Mobo, didn't work.
I wonder what's wrong? It can't be the video files, as they play just fine on my Samsung GSII.
Yeah i think you are defiantly doing something wrong..
In MX player and Mobo Player make sure you're using the SW decode for playing the movies..
Apart from that maybe you need to provide a little more info so we can help you troubleshoot. The NT definitely plays AVI and it does it quite well so maybe there's just something a little screwed up in your system..
thnaks
it worked for me

[Q] Mkv player

Codec (ARM6 VFP) 1.6f
No you want the Arm 9 variant as that's what the Exonys 4 cpu is based on. VLC works like a charm, living watching full 720 res stuff on my phone

Well, since DTS obviously don't want us to use their codec for free, the eaiest solution would be to simply not use it. This way we won't have to bother with their licensing, and we could keep using our preferred players. I don't think this is the solution DTS wanted, but it works for us.
Since the main issue would be to re-encode everything, I have created a tiny little script to do this easily:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
ffmpeg -i "$1" -vcodec copy -acodec ac3 -scodec copy "$1-dtskilled"
Save it as plaintext to ~/bin/dtskiller and make it executable (chmod 755 ~/bin/dtskiller), then simply use "dtskiller <inputfile>" (e.g. "dtskiller movie.mkv") from the bash prompt. A new file will appear with "-dtskilled" appended to the source filename.
It's a quick and dirty script, but it only depends on bash and ffmpeg, which should make it usable with cygwin as well. It fills the gap as a proof of concept.
It works by re-encoding the audio to AC-3 and just copying everything else, which should make it fairly light on the CPU compared to a normal re-encode. If someone were to make a licensing claim on AC-3 we could easily move to Vorbis, which is a completely free format and virtually any FFmpeg based player should handle just fine, but most people seem to prefer AC-3.
If there is enough demand I might make a GUI version with more features (like audio codec and output file selection) in python, possibly even windows compatible.
i would much prefer a transcoding feature from dts to ac3, rather than an outright re-encoding.
so you would have mx player pro work with a third party plugin that transcode dts audio sources to playable ac3 audio format. is that possible ?
i'm currently using the older mx player pro which still has dts, but it doesn't have the latest jelly bean support as well as other features/fixes. so would love a fix for this :/
dts audio mkv 1080p
Galaxy S3 here.
Im not too clear what im required to do to achrieve dts audio playback...
I uninstalled all refrences to mxplayer, then installed 1.6f as suggested. Then installedvthe main program from the play store.
Was that the right order of doing things?
I use MX player & I love it

Be carefull: DTS support has been removed from latest MX Player due to licence issue
So if the sound of your file is DTS, it might be the issue...

For everyone complaining about media playback ;)

I have tried BSPlayer, MX Player and they both stutter on really high quality videos. However, I have ES File Explorer installed and it comes with its own video player built in. I decided to give it a try and ran a 1440p video of a timescape, and it ran flawlessly whereas the other two video players could hardly run it. Also, streaming files over my WiFi performed flawlessly as well, with virtually zero lag from what I could tell and it barely needed to buffer either. I think everyone should give it a shot and post their results in this thread to see if it works nicely for everyone else as well!
It also played mkv files fine, but we still need a way to decode DTS audio nicely. Is it possible to sw decode audio and hw decode the video?

If you just browse to the place where the file is on your nexus through es file explorer and then click on it. It should work then. I just wish there was stock decoding for dts audio, because it works for mkv files fine.

The built-in ES File Explorer media player worked really good, but so did also MX Player with H/W-decoder.
Dice-player was locked to S/W decoding and stuttered.
And standard media player played it without hesitation.

It doesn't seem to play avi files. It simply didn't offer the option to play with its built-in player. It *did* open the m4v file however.
Played without a single hiccup everything stock here.

If you hold down on the video file and then click "Open As" and then "Video" it will give you the option to play .avi files.
For me it's all the same. Every player that does hw decoding does not play *completely* smooth. Tried MX, Google, ES.

Try this.
Extract the files from the Rar and copy them to your N10 internal storage. Then, in MX Player, Go to Settings -> Decoder, scroll all the way to the bottom, and tap Custom codec. Then, select the folder containing the codec files you copied over and tap OK. MX Player will then close, and after you restart it you should be in business.
Credit to Rootzwiki for that.
Not sure what the issue is on your end, but I ran that same 1440p Timescape video in the stock player from the Gallery and it works fine. No stutter, or lag even when skipping scenes.
I also tried MX and Dice player, no issues when them either. Stock N10 - 16GB.

Sorry for silly question, but how much of an advantage is hardware decoding? Do other players have it?
Thanks,

You get hardware acceleration even without the external codec, what the external codec provides is DTS audio support which had to be removed from the app for licensing reasons.
