-89dbm is a pretty good signal ma8, even i have the same(-89dbm) all the time with XXLPS modem on RR3.0.9 and have no issue

Well, -90 is needed to make calls..

This is the limitation of non-Samsung ROMs. Nothing to worry about.
For calls you need at least -100 dBm.

Hmm.. Does that mean my rom/phone is not able to receive a better signal? Or is the signal actually stronger then the rom will display?
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9100 met Tapatalk

If you flash Samsung FW, your signal will be stronger.
Signal limits are:
Samsung FW: max. 32 asu (-52 dBm)
AOSP: max. 12 asu (-89 dBm)
But it's not the reason to leave AOSP ROMs.

Try different modem(baseband). Try few and you'll find best for you.

Get on a mobile network that this phone fully supports. What carrier are you on? This phone doesn't get better than edge on certain networks. (for example, T-mobile USA)

You should look for carriers who offer the fastest data network speed. I know here in holland, its vodafone. So perhaps you should switch carriers for faster speed. There isnt a other way to increase it.

From what I was able to find though, Mobily DOES use a frequency (WCDMA 2100) that this phone supports.
Did you get the phone brand new? Or used? Are you sure it's an i9100 model phone?

like someone already told you, you should try flashing a different modem (afaik, you can try any sgs2 modem you like, no matter which rom/kernel you are on).
here is a link for a thread with a collection of modems

max speed i get on good days on edge is 200kbps. test what you are getting. remember edge is sllow
Try 3G/4G Optimizer. You can tweak for max speed.

Edit:
Ahh apparently he was not clear, on first post he said he is on edge.
Thank you all for replies. I will let you know when I downloaded them. My connection changes frequently from E TO H TO 3G TO G. I HAVE PUT ON AUTOMATIC.

Now my Internet far better than before. I changed the network type to auto instead of gsm. I also did the tweaks. Also it is much faster when outside rather than at home or at work because of poor signals.

Fast Dormancy on Globe Telecom Philippines

Does Globe telecom philippines supports fast dormancy? There are others saying they do support and others saying they don't.

They do support the fastdormancy in globe... I have a friend who works in Globe, technical department and he confirmed that they are using fastdormancy. I also confirmed by calling the customer support. Sad to say I was explaining for almost 30 to 45 minutes to get the answer as MOST OF THEM DIDNT KNEW what in the heaven I am talking about... but at last after 30 to 45 minutes I got the confirmation...
Thanks man for your effort.

You can disable the fastdormancy if you want. there is an app developed by GOKHANMORAL called "togle fastdormancy for galaxy s3". you can find it on the forum. but my suggestion is keep it on as it saves battery if you are using GLOBE. I am not aware if it is supported in SMART or SUN network...
i highly doubt SUN has fd.. yeah, Globe does have fd but i disable it to save battery... i dont really use it

from what i understand i suggest you leave it enabled because globe supports fd. it will save you more battery than disabling it as it will draw more battery from your device as it stays on the highest possible cignal type or powerstate. i assume when you said "i dont really use it" is because your not enabling mobile data on your s3?
i rarely enable data on my S3 since I am on prepaid and finals week is here, i need to save some money lol

This is correct although you will get slower overall speeds since it is moving from the lower, battery efficient 3g states to the faster, battery draining h+ states in twenty second intervals.
If battery is your priority leave it enabled, if you want the fastest speeds disable it- but it will drain fast and you will have no signal in areas that only have the old antennas.
Globe tweaked it recently, before it would go all the way down to g, now it idles in 3g.
Personally I leave it enabled as losing signal is not an option for me.

A simple explanation...
1. If your carrier supports the fastdormancy AND you are using DATA frequently than LEAVE IT ENABLED AS IT WILL SAVE THE BATTERY...
2. If your carrier doesnt support the fastdoemancy AND you are using DATA OR NOT, disable it as it will save the battery...

I occasionaly disable fd when im streaming movies on my ps3 tethered on my s3 or if i want it to stay on H+. The only time i enable it is when im on travel. But it really doesnt matter if your on a 2g network or if you manually set your connection to gsm. Anyway guys how much speed are you getting on globe's HSPA+?im currently here in davao and here is my speedtest attached with fd disabled.

If you move into an area that is only 2g and you have fd disabled you will not have cellular signal. There are still some areas in manila and a lot in the farther provinces that are 2g only. You will not be able to make calls, sms, etc.
Imho it's wiser to leave it on as patel suggests.
But hey those are good speeds! Never had those in any part of manila, laguna or batangas. Looks like the bandwidth is all yours. Lucky you

FYI you will still have cell signal on 2g and fast dormancy disabled. There is no fd on a 2g network. Enabled or disabled it will ignore what you have set.

Actually you won't.
Disabling fast dormancy essentially turns off the 2g antennas of the phone. You can search this forum and you will see posts from last year stating people losing signal in places like capiz, batangas etc losing cellular signal with fb disabled and getting back the signal when enabling it.

I provided screenshots for you too see im running on 2g with fd disabled. Fd doesnt disable 2g networks at all. It only switches powerstates if your connected on 3g. I guess people not having signal is because maybe they have set their phones to only search and connect on wcdma networks.

Having gprs registered in your phone doesn't necessarily mean you're in a 2g area only.
You're in an area that has 3g but has shifted you to lower bandwidth most probably due to congestion. It's a different story when you're in an area that has no 3g.
Afaik switching to lower power states is disabling the higher powered antennas and switching to the lower powered ones. The inverse also holds true.
You will only see the difference if you are in a 2g only area for an extended time. Try staying in a 2g only place like some areas of san Juan batangas and you will see that you're the only one with no signal while your friends dumb phones will be perfectly fine.

As ive said. Im currently in davao. But im from a province from surigao del sur.and i tell you theres no such thing as 3g on those areas. My s2 has always been set to only connect to a 2g network as theres no point on setting it to auto switch between gsm and wcdma as there is no 3g network in my province. My s3 is the oposite. Iv set it to only connect on wcdma because data is always enabled on this device. I only have signal loss on my s3 if im in an area where there is no 3g. And both my devices hav fb disabled. I hope this clears everything.

HELP improve my signal indoors

I've got a sgs2 and at my friends house i get network download speeds of 6.45Mbps uploads 2.26Mbps and ping 90ms im on network 3 U.K. But when im in my house i get like 1 signal bar i only get 0.55Mbps its rubbish. When outside signal shoots up 5 bars.
Anyway is there anyway i can improve my signal in doors?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
yes, install an antenna signal booster on your house. you cna attach it to the eaves of your house and run it inside so that your phone recieves the signal more clearly.
How much are they?
Where do i get one from ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Actually, signal boosters does nothing.
Just try several modems.

That is debatable, it works depending on how far the house is away from the cell tower.
It has been shown that signal boosters will work.
His modem does not have a problem as it as it is working fine outside and at other people's house only in his house it does not work properly.

At least he should try different modems because modem gives different results on place to place.......and when u try a different modem then use that at least 50 hrs because modem needs approx. 2 days to settle.

Yes as przemcio510 said baseband version is your modem
Rubbish. Absolute bollocks. This nonsense seems to have taken on the same kind of life battery calibration used have. It's simply not true.
Do you test a modem in different locations/at different times of day to account for variance in reception/signal strength/network performance you might get in different locations/at different times of day ? Absolutely.
Do you 'let it settle for a few days' ?
No. Voodoo.

Signal on galaxy s3??

Does the signal or Internet speeds over hspda depend on the actual phone or does it depend on the rom or modem or kernel you are using? I've tried a lot of different roms and my signal and data connection seems to fluctuate alot never stays solid, any ideas cheers.

Hi!
It depends on your region actually, you can try a handful or so yourself also, your Network Service Provider might also have a say on your mobile data if it fluctuates a lot
