[Q] Newbie here. Had my S2 rooted in the Mall. Now i got black camera and videos - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
So i had my phone unlocked in Japan a year ago and was able to use it here in the Philippines until I updated the latest version, i first started loosing my signal from time to time around couple of weeks after that and finally it got locked again. ( asking for the network lock control key)
Brought it to the Mall ( MOA ) to have it repaired and they did fixed it, got my signal back.
And i was told that they have rooted it.
I arrived back home and discovered I get a black screen when i open my camera, same thing happenes when i try watch videos on youtube..
Can somebody help me with how i can fix this?
I saw that there is this CWM and SuperSU installed on my phone now.
Cos I live 2hours from the Mall..
Please anyone?
Thank you so much..

Aahmm... Im sorry.. But
Would you mind explaining more how I can do that?
See, I really have no idea about all these stuffs..
Please?

Help please?

I assume this is stock firmware but only rooted.
Did the technician flash a new ROM? if you are not a power user rooting is useless in my opinion so I think better to reflash it and go to sammobile and download the stock firmware of your phone. Use the code on your screenshot to identify your firmware.
Download and watch some video tutorial on how to flash your phone via Odin Flash Tool.
Also since you are rooted go to Google Play and download GET Ril app and fix your baseband and RIL. Its too techie but using the said app is no brainer.
Since you are my kababayan, send me a PM and I will help you out.

kababayan.. i got the same problem as the OP, although I rooted the phone myself (used CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-PROPER-v5.4-CWM5.zip (use also for LPE) ). now the SG2 camera, video and bluetooth does not work.. help please

Okay guys. I'm from Cebu kababayans
Anyway,
I suggest you guys flash a stock firmware
Here are the things you need:
-Odin (download it on ur PC)
-USB connector
-patience to read and understand
1. Go to sammobile.com, make an account there and download a stock firmware there for ur device
2. After the download, you will get a .zip file.. So what u do is u unzip that file and you will get a .tar file.. Place it somewhere u can get it right away
3. Open up odin
4. Put ur phone to download mode and connect it to ur pc
5. Odin will recognize ur phone
6. Click on PDA and choose the .tar we unzipped
7. Click on start

[Q] root galaxy s2 with kernel bokj2

greetings all,
i have a new phone and unfortunately the phone came with a rom of our service provider t-mobile who but some custom apps witch can be only removed if the phone has been rooted.
of course i did some research on how to root my device but i get stuck and have no idea anymore how to root my device. i made luckily a screen capture.
could please someone help me how to root my device and send me links of file that i need during the root proces.
many thanks in advance.
Those pre-installed apps are part of your firmware, which is branded. If you want to get rid of them, flash one that isn't branded. And if you want your phone rooted too, just go with a custom-ROM.
If you need help with it, tell me what country you live in and what language you want your UI in.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
you mean just instal a custom rom using odin?
This depends on your desired outcome.
Do you want a stock ROM, a custom-ROM, CyanogenMod or MIUI?

i want to use cyanogenmod or miui, i have no idea what the difference is between them but it seems to nice.
CyanogenMod is as close as you can get to the "naked" Android. It's like the nexus-series.
MIUI is like a mix of Android and iOS. Very simple, yet powerful and allows a lot of customization.

many thanks for explanation, so in my case i should probably choose for miui, so how do i get it on my phone?
First backup your data. You will have to factory reset your phone. What language is the UI in? I assume Dutch, but I'm not sure.
You can already download Odin and the Siyah-kernel (the tar version).
Edit:
Just checked your profile. ;-)
You can find ether latest MIUI on
www.miui.nl/
Tell me once you have all the files.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i downloaded the Siyah-kernel and also download the miui rom from miui.nl.
so what do i need to do next?
You need either Odin or Heimdall. In your case I'd go with Odin, as it's simpler to use and you won't need it much. So, download Odin and get the drivers working. Close KIES competely, put your phone into download-mode (turn off, hold volume-down & home, then turn it on) and connect it while Odin is running. It should detect your device.
I'll post the further instructions once you got everything working so far.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
i am ready
When you are ready with Odin, make sure that Repartition and flash lock are NOT checked.
Auto reboot and f. reset time shall be.
Tick the "PDA" box and select the Siyah tarball. Then hit start.
When the phone reboots immediately hold volume-up and home until you are in ClockWorkMod.
Go to mounts & storage and mount the USB-storage. Put the MIUI-zip-file on your device, then unmount the USB-storage.
After that proceed like this:
Wipe data
Install zip from sd-card and choose your MIUI zip.
Wait till the installation is finished and reboot.
If your phone does not boot, go into ClockWorkMod and install again.

Thnx for the quick reply.. i found the Siyahv2.6.4.tar file, i will try tonight!
I it doesn't work I'll use the tar files from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928 to gain root..
It worked! Thank You.
After 6 our of putting all the information across the web together so i could try to root the S2 GT-9100 i got it working. So i want to give you the credits, there your post was my main lead of info to get started. I have the MIUI: Miuinl SGS2-1.12.30 Signed version installed, after i routed the phone through ODIN with: Siyah-v2.6.7. My Baseband version is still the I9100BOKJ1 (no idea what is means), but got it working now. It is a blessing, will thanks on the Miui site as well for this great piece of work. Thanks, and for the other new visitors: it works, just read from the beginning and have patient.

GingerMOD is also very close to pure AOSP. I'm actually considering going to it because it supports TV-Out via MHL, whereas CyanogenMod does not, as far as I know. Could be worth checking out for you.
use another kernel
hi it have worked for me too, but i have a question, could i use another kernel with a stock rom is this possible, im not that smart and have for the first time a smartphone the same as karamanoglu, i just got lucky to got my phone rooted, first i did a hard reset and it got in a loop by rebooting and going to the tmobile logo back and forth, so i got frustrated and decided to root it, but i dont like the custom rom and want it back to the stock rom, but am affraid it will get a brick with my luck. can i use the kernel bokg2 and with the original stock rom from samsung but still rooted and can delete the apps from samsung if i want, sory for the bad english.

[Stock ROM] (H3G) Three UK 2.3.6 for ODIN

Thanks to 'cascader' I have used a program to extract the Stock ROM for our Three UK Galaxy Aces. Thanks again 'cascader'!
The zip file contains:
Cooper_v1.0.ops - Partition table etc. for the Ace ONLY
SS5570_Odin_Multi_Downloader_v4.38.exe - Odin 4.38 - To flash the firmware
S5830XWKT5_S5830H3GKT3_S5830NEKT2_HOME.tar.md5 - The firmware
SS_DL.dll - This file is used ONLY by Kies so is un-needed
This is a ONEPACKAGE file meaning you only need the cooper.ops file and the firmware to flash. If you do not know what you are doing - http://lmgtfy.com/?q=galaxy+ace+odin+onepackage+flash or http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-to-flash-official-stock-firmwares.html
Download link:

I accept no responsibility for bricked phones. Thanks!

will i need to convert filesystem back from ext 4 or will flashing do this?
my phone was on O2 but after failed attempts at finding the firmware for it, i just stuck an unbranded stock from asia on there...works wonders
It has to be flashed by ODIN @PJ147 Use the included files for ODIN and the instructions from either link
@King Kaze - I was using UK XEU but it was only 2.3.3, This is 2.3.6 and includes Three's network tweaks which makes my 2G roaming a bit better, but completely useless still. I have to wait 2 minutes for 0.facebook.com to load on Opera! If I use Opera on any other phone on 2G m.facebook.com loads quickly. I'm thinking it's Three restricting how fast things can download/tx-rx on 2G, Their websites load alright in seconds... I asked them about this and they denied that they restrict speeds on 2G which makes me laugh.
0.facebook should load faster than all the other facebook sites because it barely has anything
Yeah, It should but Three restrict my 2G speed so it loads really slowly :L

Is this stock rom rooted? And if so, how do you go about unrooting it?

I know this thread is a little dusty, but the contents still apply . When I go to start the flashing in odin, it comes up saying "Please connect phones!!".

I'm coming from this ROM

Hi,
A couple of months back I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 using Odin 1.85. My phone is a UK I19100, on Three. Today, I wanted to unroot it, so being a fool, I followed the guide at galaxys2root. com
I have downloaded firmware for a different carrier, and when starting my phone, I have error messages such as 'android.process.acore has stopped working' and I find that the 3 store has disappeared. Also, the phone no longer works, being extremely slow and unresponsive.
Please could someone guide me on how to get back to the latest official Three UK stock kernel and firmware for the SGS2.
Thanks guys, much appreciated, really stuck here.

You don't have to flash stock firmware to unroot your phone...
You can flash any country's firmware you want, as long as it's for your device. So I suggest flashing the latest I9100XWLPX firmware.

Thanks for the link and your quick reply. Will this work for a UK Three SGS2? I don't want to install something that will mess it up
I installed this firmware: I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 before, and it ruined the phone, the three store had gone, the phone unresponsive, whenever touching an icon it crashes and needs reboot etc.
Also, will this firmware put it back to original factory software, ie. stock everything ICS and unroot?
Sorry, kinda a newbie at this.
Thanks,

I have used this website for Samsung ROMs before, and it's pretty great. You do have to make an account, but once you do you can just type in your model no. and it spits a .zip back at you. For Samsung firmwares, it's perfect.
I can't post an actual link, but the site is called sammoble. You could Google sammobile firmware, or go to samfirmware .com /firmware

Don't flash your firmware from sammobile if you don't know how to???
Most people have bricked their phone because they don't know how to flash or they make some mistakes in flashing the firmware !!!
So plz use caution or try the above link as i have given !!!

He is definitely right. If you are not 100% sure that you have the exact right firmware and know you are flashing it the exact right way, then you will likely brick your phone.
Flashing is a last resort in this case, but it may be necessary.

Ok, so that site didn't have the stock rom either and I think I know why...
All of the rom sites work by automatically downloading the rom from samsung's website when a phone's update comes out, but the samsung galaxy light has never had an update before (still at 4.2.2).
Here's my question: should I risk downloading kit kat 4.4 from this random blogspot page saying it has a hold of kit kat for my device or just wait and go without a phone for a little and fix it when kit kat comes out.
Edit: Nvm link doesn't work on blogspot... just going to have to wait
Why would you wait if you have your hands on a ROM that you know works?

Resolved Issue
Ok, so thanks to everyone who helped me out and I finally figured out how to resolve it (until a working rom comes out).
For all you future unfortunate Samsung Galaxy Light users:
1. Call Samsung Tech Support (1-888-987-4357)and say I blew up my system and I want you Samsung foos to re-flash my system.
2. It will take them about a day to get your device in their system, so call back in a day and they will ship your device to their Samsung place for free. (Well, I am not really sure if the shipping is free or not, but I know the service is. I will update when I find out.)
3. You will get your device back in a week or two fixed.
Note: This is how your going to have to fix any phone that you blew up the system for before a rom becomes available.
Glad you got it worked out!

Ok so I should have more faith in myself. So by the end of my nightmare I messed up my boot AND my recovery and could only get into download mode. On a hunch I got ahold of the stock rom for the SM-G360T which is the T-Mobile version of this phone and being as they run on the same network(Same company now) the boot.img and recovery.img WORK ON THIS MODEL. Im back in my phone and everything is running perfect. So for those out there that know WAY more about making roots and roms you might be able to use this stock rom to finally root this monster. Or at least if you soft brick your device you can use these files to get back into your phone until we are able to get the stock rom for this phone. The link to the stock rom for the SM-G360T is below. Hope we get a root for this phone soon. THX!
Im a noob poster on Xda so I cant link it but just go to sammobile.com and search for SM-G360T and make sure you sign up and activate ur account its free you just have to do that or the download link is broke. Have fun.

I extracted just the boot.img and made my own tar to flash just the kernel, which was the problem. Flashing the whole rom isn't what you need to do in this case. Just make a mental note that you can you use the boot.img and recovery.img to get back into android.
Hello this is androidadmirer
i recently bought a samsung galaxy core prime from metro pcs
out of the box lolipop 5.1.1
i have an idea how to break this phone loose
but i need some input from you all to see if i'm wrong or if this is possible
so my plan is to use odin to flash the samsung core sm-360hu version firmware and they have a working twrp recovery
then make a rom with the t mobile firmware and insert su in bin and xbin (the t mobile firmware works perfect because it's the same network and same android 5.1.1 o.s
this sounds really good in theory but i don't know if i am totally right
can someone chime in on this please

i recently bought a samsung galaxy core prime from metro pcs
out of the box lolipop 5.1.1
i have an idea how to break this phone loose
but i need some input from you all to see if i'm wrong or if this is possible
so my plan is to use odin to flash the samsung core sm-360hu version firmware and they have a working twrp recovery
then make a rom with the t mobile firmware and insert su in bin and xbin (the t mobile firmware works perfect because it's the same network and same android 5.1.1 o.s
this sounds really good in theory but i don't know if i am totally right
can someone chime in on this please
any help will be very appriciated

Let me know if that custom recovery works if not u can use the sm-g360t (t-mobile) to get back though if I remember right the phone has to be rooted for twrp to work right not sure....also you should be able to get the stock rom from smart switch if you force the update that way you have the rom that was made for it as a base...I will try and get the rom and post it I was just checking and there is an update. Let me know

im gonna try and flash the galaxy grand prime rom and then use odin to flash a recovery on it because its only 4.4.4 so my thought was to flash the "downgraded 4.4.4" then flash the twrp and then make a rom from the t mobile odin firmware
where is the link? thanks

Have fun.

Hi. Can you post the link to download the firmware ? Thanks
SM-G360T1 "boot.img" And "recovery.img" Files
I just uploaded the "boot.img" and "recovery.img" from the latest stock update for the SM-G360T1 on this thread here if anyone needs it in the future.

EDIT: Updated this post today with ODIN flashable boot and recovery files. Be sure to read the whole post before flashing. Thanks!
I tried the F, H, & "lte" versions firmware, still no positive results, I keep having to flash back to the stock boot.img and recovery.img that bogarty has just linked above.... we need to find a way to unlock this bootloader on this devicez firmware... TWRP seems so close to working.
Huh?

Ok so Unlocking the Phone for use on other carriers is not the same as unlocking the bootloader. thank fully our bootloader is not locked... But it is always a good idea to completely free your device.. SO
As long as you own your device out-right and it was purchased >90 days ago, then Metro cant say no.
This post is just for those that don't already know, (make sure you do this first before you flash a recovery or try a root method)
The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime comes locked from Metropcs by default. But after you buy it and its yours..
just call them @ (+1-888-8METRO8) or (1-888-863-8768)
1. Ask for tech support
2. Ask for the unlock code,
3. Tell them you leaving the carrier.. or the country.. and they will give you the unlock codes (plural 2 codes one for the Device and the other for the Sim card if you say your leaving the country).
4. Put in the code and your good to go..
PS... Its your device.. Bought and payed for...... They really can't say NO..........

so i did the root on my phone.... Can i still unlock my phone?
send from hdx 7 using tapatalk
I didnt found a way to unlock my sm-g360t1, i made the root and tryed several boxes that told me "device unlocked" but wasnt true. Have to pay 24 bucks online to whitelist imei and unlock it trought the device unlock app. I flashed the stock rom from sammobile before but maybe works with the rooted phone too. Problem solved for me
so i got the frp message. odin flashed stock recovery and boot now it gets stuck on the metro pcs screen..... FML can anyone help me fix this problem ?
I had to flash the stock from sammobile SM-G360T1 is what you have to search for then start over but make sure the oem unlock is switched to in that causes the frp (factory reset protection)
