[Q] best ICS or JB ROM? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I'm working a lot of hours and I need to have a reliable phone, which ICS or JB ROM is best? I'm new to this phone, so, I don't know what my options are.

I would say epinter one is the most reliable one for now. i bet he is cooking somthing good with his atm ROM and the leak also, so it would be even better.

Did you say reliable?
Then forget about both ICS and JB and go with GB. Any variant will do.
ICS/JB ROMs are just too unfinished yet to be a reliable daily driver, IMO. People are woking hard on them though, so there is no doubt they will one day become as reliable as good old GB.

Agreed.

This is a very accurate summary of where we stand. I'm still running Nottachtrix 1.3.1 even though Nottach left the Atrix over a month ago, just because everything works on it. Bluetooth, wifi, HWA, Ubuntop, all cameras, and even a decent selection of themes for both android and linux.
But with the new leak libs, there is sure to be a fantastic CM9/10 ROM that takes advantage of them. We just have to be patient.

Hi
If you're not using thoroughly your phone, the CM10 form Epinter is now reliable enough for a daily use.
I was using CM7 since months, and after trying CM10 last week, i'm still using it and have found no real limitations for a basic usage.
I'd recommend you to keep a GB based rom if you want to have the most reliable system and if video recording is a primary need for you.

Just my $.02: I don't even use the "latest" GB 2.3.7 ROM: I've returned to Neutrino 2.6 EE (the latest is 2.91 at this writing). CM 7.2 RC1 was the most stable + efficient ROM from the CM gurus for my Atrix. I charge my phone once every two or three days too.
Think about driving a car that everyone laughs at that's never needing to go to the shop. Gits ya there, gits ya back, reliably and without anyone really paying attention to it, and it just goes and goes and holds its own against everyone else. Newest doesn't always mean best; trustworthiness does.

Epinter's CM10 worked OK for me despite the few well known bugs.
You might give the brand new AtrICS ROM a shot. It's hard to believe that it could already be as stable as it claims to be, but with working hardware acceleration, it should have some bugs fixed as compared to CM10.

Only had one reboot. I don't think it's rom related. Words with friends is the culprit. Happened during that.

epinter JB rom
I am using epinter's JB rom and it works flawlessly.
Thanks,
Jinesh

I switched from epinter's CM10 to AtrICS today and found it to be a fairly usable. You trade some features for others.
I prefer the interface of CM10 to AtrICS, but AtrICS feels really snappy thanks to the HWA. I'll probably get used to ICS after a while. The Camera works well, but, like others I noticed that after switching from the back camera to the front, there was some corruption on the right side of the screen. Going into Camera Settings and unchecking then rechecking the Widescreen box fixes this. There are problems with the unlock screen of AtrICS; it can be slow to appear when you press the power button and I have seen the screen turn on for a split second before turning right back off. If you let the phone go into a deep sleep, you may see a black screen for a minute, in my case the unlock screen did eventually appear. I've had one reboot right after closing a bunch of apps running in the background then trying to open a browser.
WiFi works great with AtrICS and mobile data feels faster than I remember.

My mobile gone hot after a few minute use AtrICS, and experienced network lost. The phone also hot with epinter 's version.
Restored TopSmart1.3. GB has the stablity I trust.

TopSmart is not supported anymore. You may want to move to a supported gb rom like MROM....

I am using the one A18O has posted. There are pretty much daily updates and a lot of work from the other members in the thread.
Here is a link to the one I am talking about for sure.
The only issue I have had is that it does not do a mediascan on boot, so there is no accessing music from SD. Other than that, pretty stable so far and very few complaints by me. Hell, even the camera app loads.
You have no many choices
As for now you have no many choices: or based on Phothon -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444637 - which according to replies rather stable or Atrix CM9 pure test build - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403372
guys....not yet time!! wait for some more time and post this ques!

Just download "rescan media" from the market - allows you to force a media scan at any time.
Right now the CM9 ROMS are in alpha stage so things like camera, video playback, and gapps don't work quite right yet.
I'd wait a few months before going into CM9 if I were you.
I'd recommend either Gingermod, or Neutrino Roms for the time being. They're pretty good.
By the way Neutrino developed hinted that there is a possibility for Neutrino CM9. Will be greate

Best JB CM10 ROM?

Whats the best CM10 JB ROM for the Rezound that is stable, fast and smooth and has very good batter life? Also, what would be a good Kernel to go with that ROM? Right now I'm on a CM9 ROM
Sent from my Rezound using xda app-developers app
They're all roughly equal in most areas. The instability with AOKP is gone in JB, so it's more about what you want out of the ROM. PAC has the most options, vanilla CM10 has the least (though still more than CM9), and AOKP is in the middle. Neo also has his customized versions of CM9 and AOKP if you like his stuff.
Stability wise, JB is overall a tick behind ICS AOSP, but not much (not enough to worry about in my book). I recommend pmem over ION if you are faced with the choice, and if you want to get the smoothest performance, check out one of the custom kernels (I hear Ermahgerd is good ).
I can vouch for Neo's AOSP jb Rom as far as speed and smoothness. Very few bugs at least for me (never use bluetooth) and I personally like snuzzos funky kernel (haven't tried the newer kernels like ermergerd or the oc kernel I have seen in the development section) but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the jb builds out there now because even a completely clean cm10 build without Linaro is pretty quick and definitely a very usable dd.

Well I personally recommend my build.
Runs really well with no issues except for HD video which is a problem with all the JB ROMs.

+1 on Grey's CM10, since 1/9/13 and no random reboots super fast/smooth.

I tried out your latest release of CM10 & im not sure if its just me but for some odd reason the only thing that's really getting under my skin is that I can hear my own echo during calls. Also, I wanted to point out that there are times when I have no signal for a good couple of minutes or so. Everything else is dandy from there on.

There's no noise cancelling in our AOSP device code, so what come in the mic goes out of the earpiece. I don't hear it as a echo though. Someone had to point it out to me for me to even notice it, because to me, it sounds just like an old analog landline.

Also the signal issue you are talking about is an issue with all AOSP ROMs. Enable airplane mode, wait a few seconds, and disable airplane mode and then your service should come back.

Addicted to flashing ROMS

I love our somewhat reliable/stable JB ROMS (thank you, XDA Devs!!) But losing stock Note functionality with S-Pen (double-tap for S-Memo, press and hold for screen capture, Photo Editor) always kept me running back to stock Touch Wiz. I was a flash-ahloic til something I did broke GPS and made it unusable. So I Odin-ed back to stock and still couldn't get GPS working. Eventually, I took my Note to the AT&T Device Support Center and they flashed the most current Samsung Firmware and I'm good to go. I've been Stock, non-rooted for 28 days, 11 hours and minutes LOL.
So I've resisted even rooting my Note at this point. Just been playing around with different launchers and widgets. It's still fun just customizing the Note to my liking. But I found that lags and freezing still even happen on Stock non-rooted, things I used to blame on any particular ROM I'd flashed.
Now the flash addiction is creeping up on me...

I, myself, have fallen in love with jellybam on the note. it has treated me quite nicely. no forcecloses. only one reboot but i dropped my phone so i think that was just from the battery popping out and in. other than that this rom is near perfect. its the best of all worlds. amazing battery life. hopefully we will be getting all those extra features soon when the official jb comes out.

Just an update:
So I ended up flashing Jellybam and what a joy that ROM was! So many customization options and it just ran smooth. That is until I got a Random Reboot.
So then I flashed Paranoidandroid, put on LMT and found that it didn't work as well as I'd hoped as a replacement for Swipe Pad. Anyway, I proceeded to customize it to make it my daily driver when RR strikes 4xs in an hour.
At this point, I go running back to ICS: Novena. I dig the boot animation and that ROM has always been solid for me. And of course everything performs flawlessly: no RRs and great battery life.
But am I content? LOL
Lurking in the Blackstar Dev thread, I read about the combination of X and Flappjaxx ICS 3.0.2 kernel.
Getting to the point of this post:
That combination is AMAZING! And not in the hyperbolic sense. TRULY AMAZING!
This feels as fast as any JB ROM I've tried. Tho I'm not OC/UV, I'm only using Wheatley and battery life is PHENOMENAL!
So I'm still enjoying my "OG" Note and glad that we have a sharing community in XDA forums and gifted dev support, but if we never get any new ROMS for the lack of a source JB kernel from Samsung, I'm now on my Daily Driver.
Holla back if this combo works for you too.

I don't know what will happen if you do that, but BSX is an ICS ROM and won't be compatible with a JB kernal. I recommend installing goo.im from the Play Store and search for Flappjaxxx in there: results will show his ROMs and kernals. Good luck!

CM10.1 Stable Feedback

I am interested in trying out CM10.1 stable, but want to see if others have some feedback to share with the rest of us.
Some questions :
- Is it really "stable"? Any reboots?
- Any feature not working (bluetooth, tethering, etc...)
- Battery life?
- Compatibility with different custom kernels?
- Any issues with network (LTE/4G)?
Thank you in advance.

Still reboots
I don't use bluetooth nor therering
Only ran it for 24 hrs so I can't help you with battery cause you need to give it about a week or so before you can actually see how battery performs.
I use this kernel with no issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326786
I din't notice any LTE/4G issue
Reboots for me too. Its like twice in past 48 hrs and it was random. Not too bad. A reboot to startup is only about 20 seconds.

Been running it since it dropped. I have had a couple of reboots. I have had some screen flickering. Tethering works. LTE= 28.05Mbps/Down & 12.26Mbps Up in Jackson MS
Out of all the roms I have tried I like it the best so far.

6/26 nightly seems more stable.
The "Enable keys notifications" (also known as BLN) does not work. It worked in 10.0.
On the positive side, they've added this feature called, "Ask for reminder snooze delay" which allows you to set the reminder time to something different than the default 5min (I just noticed this feature; not sure if it's totally brand new). I remember this feature was available on the Palm OS ten years ago and since then I haven't seen it on any mobile OS (not sure if BB had it) until now.

BLN was taken out. If you want BLN you might want to try a different kernel.

Thanks, I know...I learned the hardway on another post
Same here with the reboots. It does get annoying but whatever. I might end up going back to Samsungs JB.
Anyways. Battery isn't so bad either. But I'm on a brand new battery finally after a year with the phone.

A friend of mine is going to work on CM10. Now that we have SGH-I717 source I'm sure it will be stable as CM9 with 0 reboots.
On latest root box with no reboots yet ..been over 12hrs

You'll get them. Go to YouTube and try watching a video, that's where it usually happens for me on any 4.2.2 Rom.
I'm running FJ's ICS AOSP Rom for the past 7 day with no issues. No reboots no matter what I throw at it.
Nope YouTube is fine for me ...ill probably get one eventually

Not for me really.. I've had a better expierence with custom 4.2.2 then our official 4.1.2. I've been lucky enough tk have stability with it
But yes gotta watch your steps

But try to get the one with default jb kernel. No OC kernel. The oc kernel has some bugs and the dev is working fixing.

roms are like women, treat them right and they treat you right
and youtube is def not an issue, thats probably my most used app
but as i said on my other post a bit ago, everyones phone is different, and everyones phone use is different so we cant expect everyone to have the same results
this is why having the choice to flash anything and everything you want and finding what works best for you, makes android so desirable
Right on. Yeah when I Need a flash fix I'll consider it

Non flickering ROM?

Does anyone recommend a ROM with 4.2.2 that does not flicker? Personally the ROMs rum great other than that but it becomes a problem when it is almost constantly flickering and I can only use the phone in portrait mode. People always ask what happened to my phone like its broken and just like oh no see I have this really good rom on it, its just a side effect haha

I haven't seen 4.2.2 flickering in a loooong time ...

I tried the disable overlays if that works I'll be very happy! And I have some free time tonight I'll check out that ROM! Thanks!

I had that problem bad..for awhile until I went to one of the newer Carbon nightly's then it just went away. Disabling hw overlays helps for awhile on other roms then you get a RR ....I don't know but carbon seems to be running the best (for me) the last month or so that I've had it on here and I've used 2 dif nightly's so far.
This problem has been my biggest issue on this phone. Its always on lock screen only right after waking the phone and then it stops after actually unlocking with the swipe. Nice to see that I'm not the only one.

Really? I thought reboots were a thing of the past. How long ago did you "did"it? I haven't had any since about the second build. And none are being reported in the thread.

Another vote for Blownfuze's AOKP, 4.2.2 ROM. The newest 7/22 version is rock solid, no flickers(since many versions ago), and does everything I need it to do.

CyanogenMod 10.1.2 and using SD-Booster, Autokiller, and Greenify have eliminated all screen flicker, random reboots, and other issues. My phone is now super smooth, super fast, and has eternal battery life.
