[Q] Lost my IMEI it's showing 0049xx [SOLVED: demo phone] - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, i bought a SGS3 and it's got 0049XX IMEI, the person who sold it to me told me he got this while trying to UNLOCK the phone, now there's no GSM signal, is there a way to recover the original IMEI or at least be able to make phone calls with the 0049XX IMEI.
Also does this mean that the phone is still locked ?? because while unlocking it he lost the IMEI so i assume the unlocking process wasn't succesful, and does this mean that if the phone is still locked it will be impossible to unlock (because i think that the unlocking applications(like those in the market) need the IMEI to unlock no? )

It will be unlocked since corrupting the EFS is a very good way to unlock the phone
Solutions exist for fixing the IMEI but no solution is 100% at the moment, the IMEI is signed in the EFS on the i9300 (and newer Android phones) and the current methods patch the modem to bypass the certificate, which is lame since once you update the firmware the modem patch is lost and your IMEI will return to 0049...

This means that even if i lost the EFS i can still use my phone normaly ? , and do you have a link where i can find how to fix it?

You can in some countries if they have not blacklisted 0049...
None of the current solutions for the i9300 are free, they come with unlocking/flashing boxes such as z3x or spt.

Returned the phone to the person who sold it to me and bought a brand new galaxy s3 today , the phone was a "demo live unit" apparently those demos don't have GSM antennas so even if the IMEI was restored the phone won't read sim cards.
Beware while buying used phones or from eBay !!, if instead of the triangle where we see signal bars you have a crossed circle then the S3 you have dosen't have GSM antenna and can't be repaired.

@spocky
Hi mate, Im also in the same situation: imei unknown. Could it be possible to upload the first image I made with efs pro and give it a glimpse?
I have been struggling with this for 4 days.
Thanks a lot in advance.

[Q] Need HELP "No Network Available" in Samsung Galaxy SII

Dear Sir(s),
I am facing problem in Samsung Galaxy s2 which is as follows:
I have a Open Sim Samsung Galaxy S2 (Indian Market) which I had upgraded to 2.3.5 unofficially from Samfirmware.com. After that I root it & upgrade too many times but all of sudden I am unable to make calls from it then I change the Sim card but the facing same problem, I cant understand the problem. Then at last I downgrade with I9100XXKI3 but problem is still as it is..
so please help me..
Dial *#06# and check see if your IMEI is ok.
Yep, check IMEI as above. If it is different, it may need to be returned to Samsung for repair.... There are a few threads in XDA on EFS folder being corrupted, and this is where the IMEI info is stored. Some may have had success repairing, bit most I've heard have restored an EFS backup.
Hope its not this though...... :-(

After too much Googling about IMEI restoration I came to know about EFS Folder, I dont have backup of that. but I took backup of OLD rom from CWM Recovery, Is it helpful to me..?
Yes replace old rom.
If that does restore your efs and imei then back up efs.
Multiple posts on xda re efs may help.

Sounds like a cheap chinese knock off too me. The IMEI is hardwired into the device and shouldn't be gone. Unless the seller has fluffed up the EFS folder. Get it sent back pronto boss

i use the Galaxy S III (international version). Do i need to backup my IMEI with QPST as refer in this post [FIX/TOOL] Backup/Restore/Fix IMEI App v1.2.2.2b now available - Updated 8/04/2012!!!?
The ROM of my SGS3 is CM9.0, when i follow the instruction in the post to run the script to let my phone enable to DIAG mod, the fail feedback from the terminal prompt shown NOT EXIST DICTIONARY.
echo smd,bam > /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_rmnet/transports f_rmnet NOT EXIST
echo diag > /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_diag/clients f_diag NOT EXIST
so I doubt the original post unavailable for the SGS3 i9300.

You have 45 days to return the phone based upon the return policy of eBay. Tell them that yiuvget no signal with the phone when yiuvget use it. They will make a return immediately.

If you didn't return you phone to warranty yet, follow this procedure :
- make a backup of your current efs folder (tar AND partition IMG) using EFS Pro.
- send me those files by pm.
- if you are lucky (and I have some free time), I might be able to restore your imei :fingers-crossed:
Hi
I have same prob with IMEI :crying:
I was trying different roms and rename a .nv_data.bak nothing helps

[Q] S3 GT-I9300 unknown baseband, IMEI null/null, efs folder empty with no backup

Hi,
I am in big trouble with my new S3 (just bought last week from Dubai). I am willing and i promise to pay anyone 10 EUROS who help me solve this issue and also donate 10 EUROS to this site.
The phone is new, when i inserted sim card, no service. When i checked the phone, BASEBAND UNKNOWN, IMEI NULL/NULL, the efs folder is empty with no backup, so i am stuck with no solutions after 1 week.
Please, anyone can guide me so that i can get the phone back to normal??
Thank you,
Nabeel

Nope, i didn't try it because i trust this shop, my mistake .
I bought over 25 phones for the last 10 years and absolutely no problem, that is why i didn't find the need to check, also i was in Dubai for 1 single day, so i did not use the phone.
Is there no way possible to get this phone back to normal from home, I only have the IMEI info on the back of my phone. Also from the build number i can see the code IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB.
I also have the Kernel version, only baseband is missing under About Device.

Check if you have nv_data.bak file in your efs folder.
In case you have try by making a copy of it and rename to nv_dat.bin. and fix permissions using efs pro.
If your efs folder is empty, you may need to change motherboard.
A new S3 sells from $600 - $700. If you paid $300 i question if it's a real S3 or a knockoff.
i have same problem XD... dont know how I end having IMEI null... usually users report 0000 imei... but null?! damn XD...

Latest Octopus Tool have added support to recover the IMEI of Lg V60 and you can go to repairing shop who have these paid tools. It will cost you around 30-50 USD and I believe you will get back your IMEI.

You can't repair the IMEI through the FTM partition for the AT&T variant.Believe me,I have tried countless hours and it doesn't work!Octopus Box is supposed to have a working method, but I haven't seen any proof as of yet! There is a so called working fix for the T-mobile variant, but never tried it.

Yes,I think Houtoo was having the same issues and he was doing it without the box with Korean firmware.I did find a T-Mobile IMEI repair, but you have to roll it back to A10 and re-write the partitions.I have it saved, but no T-Mobile variant to try it on.I have a USC V60 which is crossflashed with AT&T firmware I guess I could try it on?!?The USC and the T-Mobile version is basically the same phone firmware and hardware wise.

That's a good possibility!I'm in the states, and we currently can't use any custom roms because of the IMS settings from the carriers at the moment.AT&T is the worst! They went through their little 3g sunset b.s. and wiped out a bunch of unlocked, and non-AT&T sold devices so they can't use VoLTE.
