[Q] [SGS2][JellyBam latest build][Siyah latest] - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
The weather is not updating properly on my phone.
Ive tried all three services (bug, accu, underground). They all report from the time I booted my phone (16:03) and it wont refresh no matter how many times i hit refresh.
All settings are correct (i think??) Google is allowed to use location from me by wifi, and stuff like that. GPS is not turned on as i have this option.
I am on working wifi, everything else works.
clean install of rom yesterday.
no extra settings except some battery tweaks in extweaks.
any ideas?
thanks.

GPS settings changed...voodoo?

The GPS on my un-rooted Vibrant has been working quite well since the JI6 update. That update changed several of the dialer-accessed settings, and I haven't messed with any of them since the phone was finally working. I also didn't do the GPS Restore app because I figured why try to fix something that's not broken.
However, today, for the first time in two months, I couldn't get any locks. The GPS found a dozen satellites and showed normal signal strengths (25-40%) for the majority of them, but it kept losing and finding them, and got no locks. When I tried using Google Maps, it thought I was around Las Vegas (I'm in the Pacific NW), and the accuracy circle was probably 500 miles.
I rebooted the phone, but that didn't help. Then I decided to go into the GPS settings and found that there were two changes that I hadn't made: the Server FQDN type had switched from Auto Config to Custom, and the Server had switched from "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp" (which first appeared with JI6) to "www.spirent-lcs.com." I changed back to Auto Config, but didn't change the server, and re-booted. Then I went to the GPS Test app again and got a lock on 7 of 11 satellites in about 20 seconds with 20' accuracy.
Finally, I went back into the GPS settings: it was still set to Auto Config, but the Server had mysteriously switched back to "h-slp.mnc260.mcc310.pub.3gpp."
I had assumed that once I made a change to the GPS settings they stayed thay way unless I went back in to modify them, or I installed an update or the Samsung GPS Restore app. So, was this just some weird hiccup where my phone reverted to some old settings on its own, or what? I'm also curious to know what info is stored in the GPS Data Cache (which I've never cleared since I've had the phone)...in particular, could this be the source of the switched Server settings?
This is very odd however you'd get better help in Vibrant section tbh.
Seems like this was a problem for many people regardless of the configuration of their phone. Check out this thread:

[Q] Lost sync, GPS issues

It seems my phone is no longer syncing normally as expected. GMail doesn't seem to be pushing email and the built-in EMail app isn't notifying me either. Other random apps aren't syncing properly, either. It happens over both 3G & Wi-Fi. Sometimes restarting will fix for a moment as everything gets synced and notifications pop up for G/EMail. Twitter is about the only app that seems to be working properly.
Also GPS constantly stops working. A restart usually will re-enable it but it keeps failing. Opening Maps or other GPS-enabled apps does not get fix (GPS icon never appears). Even the GPS On/Off toggle does nothing most of the time.
I'm running Eclipse 1.3 on a 2.3.4 kernel with the beautiful ICS theme (Email app NOT themed). No settings were ever changed and checked to be set properly. I've even tried wiping Cache/Davik without success. I want to see if there is anything I can do before trying to Wiping/SBF back to 2.3.4 stock and reflashing.

"Can't find location" randomly appearing on Home Screen

All of a sudden today, when unlocking my phone, I've seen this message pop up on the home screen for like 2 seconds. I figured it was just a random fluke and powered down but then when I went to click on refreshing my weather widget which is always set to the same zip code, it happened again. This widget is set to manual refresh, I have to click it to get an updated forecast. Then it happened again a few minutes later after simply unlocking the screen like it was doing earlier.
I've had Network Location services for wifi and gps turned off for a good 3 weeks or so. I only activate those on an as-needed basis. I don't use any apps that acquire my location (weather, facebook, etc.) I have the bear minimum apps running in 'Running Services' and I'm running the configuration in my sig (UnNamed, Entropy's DD, ICScrewd Theme). Any ideas what's going on?
does it happen every time you refresh the weather widget?
if it does I would try a different widget, just to see whether it goes away.
I just had GMail do this to me this morning (when I tried to refresh - I have that set to manual). I turned on location services (wifi and GPS) and let it get my location, then turned them back off. That seemed to take care of it. Might be a cookie based kind of thing - I loaded a new ROM yesterday and hadn't let it get a lock yet.
I just remembered that I updated Google Maps yesterday via the Market. I think that's the culprit. I can't see any setting though which I can change to disable automatic updating. I've gotten this message now like 3 times this morning.
Ive temporarily turned on Location Services for wifi/GPS but I prefer them off as I get much better battery life with them disabled.

This seems to be happening to me more and more. Cannot pinpoint the culprit.
is this still an issue for anyone? It certainly is for me

GPS problem

Running DSC .73 but I don't think it's a problem with the ROM.
I've done numerous wipes, loads, installs...
Here's the problem. Either in the Power Bar or in Settings, I'll tap to turn GPS on/off but it won't. I have to reboot.
Example: GPS is off. I tap on the GPS icon on the power bar, it flashes but remains off. If I go into settings, it's unchecked. I'll check it and back out of settings, but it's still off. I'll go back into settings to verify and yep, it's off. So I'll reboot and it comes on, but then it's locked on and I can't turn it off. WTF?!
I've stepped through app installations to see what, if anything, is causing it and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. The thing will be running fine, then I'll reboot and it flips out. I lose control of the GPS. Now, once it's on it works fine. Maps, nav, Endomondo, Ulysse Speedometer, GPS Status & Toolbox all work fine.
Guess I'm looking for help in deducing what's causing it. Is there a log somewhere I can look over that might help pinpoint the cause?
EDIT: Happened again. I had a build of DSC .73: removed a few apps I don't want/need, updated anything left, and installed: google play music, facebook, twitter, thumb keyboard, streetview. I did a rom backup and rebooted. Everything perfect. I then installed pocket legends (which I've had installed before with NO problems) and rebooted. BAM! No GPS control. I uninstalled Pocket Legends, rebooted to streakmod and fixed permissions: no good. Even tried clearing caches. No good.
F it. I'm just gonna leave EVERYTHING enabled and install every f'n thing I can think of. I'll then do a nandroid and throw in a larger internal SD card. I don't think it's any certain app doing it. I'm gonna swap out the internal card and see if that helps.

MIUI 10 bug or my mistake?

Hi to all!
I have the Global Rom, as far as I know!
The phone is in original state, no unlocked boot, no root, no nothing!
Since it updated to the MIUI 10, I get a "malfunction" in the app update, whether it's thru the PlayStore or the MIUI's updating app.
When it senses Wi-Fi, the apps to be updated starts to loop between the "Downloading" and "Waiting" states, but none of them really starts the updating process.
And this is running in background, consuming the battery very rapidly!
In the PlayStore, I can stop the updating procedure, wait a few moments and click to update and then all goes well.
In the MIUI app, I can't do the same because, no matter how many times I click to stop, it doesn't and I can't kill the process.
The only way to stop it, is to shutdown the WiFi. But, as soon as I turn it on, resumes it's strange behaviour.
Would it be because I have a VPN connection always on?
Does anyone has the same problem?
As anyone solved it? How?
After digging a while, I've came to the following conclusions:
-the Xiaomi's update app, for their own apps, doesn't work with a VPN; I need to disconnect from the VPN and allow it to update on "normal" WiFi;
-the PlayStore does work, if I proceed like I've mention before;
Is this normal? Can I correct this privacy problem?

Click to collapse
I´m not familiar at all with this kind of issues, I just think you could start;
- By checking your region from additional settings so miui has different policies for some of them and I guess the apps are slightly different for some countries.
- If your VPN has random locations then this doesn´t match with your region settings.
- Clearing cache and data in updater and downloader manager apps.
- Giving only permissions as your convenience to these two apps.
- Like last resort formatting data in stock recovery.
