Are you saying that when you set that sound as a notification for, lets say text messages, it plays 6 six times instead on one? How long is the file? It shouldnt repeat for a notification. A ringtone or an alarm would make it repeat.

yeah it would say it plays six times. but when opened on a computer, it plays once. and the sound file is 2 seconds long...lol here:https://www.dropbox.com/s/h1wiotnhwn4spku/Spunky_Attitude.ogg?m

Yeah, it did it for me too. Weird. I went ahead though and changed it to a .wav file. It seems to work right now.

gotta love that little trash can robot. so you can use wav files in the system folders just fine then?
and thanks again. your posts have always been helpful.

I dont know about the system folder. But apparently you can in the notifications folder. lol. I have one in my notification folder that works so I thought maybe changing the .ogg file into a .wav file would work. And it did.

Custom notification sounds

Just got my Hero and I am loving it!
But how do I use my own MP3's as ringtones and notifications?
I keep answering these Q's on the basis that I'm pretty sure the Hero will behave like The Magic as its the closest cousin and also runs Android 1.5 so
Try this - on the root of your SD card you need to make a folder structure the same as on the device itself. Media folder with Audio folder inside. Audio folder with alarms, notifications and ringtones inside.
Media/Audio/alarms
Media/Audio/notifications
Media/Audio/ringtones
and put files you want to use for each of those in there and they *should* then show in the list that comes up for those functions.
I think mp3 are fine for all of those, but alarm and notification seem to be mostly .ogg files so if you have an easy converter, might be worth converting. I think I converted the main one I use for my alarm to ogg using WMP11
And having said all that, simply long holding on a music file will usually allow you to set it as a ringtone, wherever you store it on your SD.

you are our guru
thats for the info in the threads dazee
we are all learning again with the hero
Hey, cool to feel like an expert for a bit til the wizz kids take over. I'm killing time waiting for my Hero....
Actually, you can find most of these answers in the Sapphire forums or Dream forums as they are mostly Android 1.5 questions rather than device specific. Perhaps the mods should have an Android Forum since loads of stuff is duplicated and triplicated between the three android devices....
and that's only my hundredth post - so really, I'm the noob... LOL
Thanks for the help, but it's not working for me.
I have created Media\Audio\notifications as you suggested and put an MP3 in there, but I dont see it in my notification sounds list.
In what specific way am I being thick!?
For short stuff like alarms and notifications, they might need to be .ogg so you may need to convert for them to show up.
LOL You are a pioneer since most of us don't have a Hero device to try anything as yet
In my settings for the magic I also have a choice in Sound and display to check Sd Card Notifications, and I'm not sure if that's what is needed - and of course - I have a magic not a Hero so it could be totally different...
Right, I got it working. Possibly by enabling those SD Card notifications. I did restart the phone as well. Either way, its working!
Thank you for your efforts in helping!
Oooh restart rings a bell, actually - I recall that possibly was something I had to do on the Magic before the files appeared in the lists!!
Cool. Nice Teamwork If this keeps up I'll have solved all my own potential probs before I even get my Hero
Also confirmed ...
a combination of enabling SD notifications (off by default) creating folder structure exactly as it appears ( case sensitive) and transferring files over and a reboot for good measure - these now appear in ringtone and more importantly under notifications.
filetypes tested - mp3, wav and ogg - all appeared.
Thanks for the advice !
I found that just creating a /notifications folder on the SD card worked fine. Didn't need to reboot or anything.

Search for RingDroid in the Market. It finds all youre mp3's on the sd-card. Then you can open youre fav mp3, shorten it and save it and make it youre ringtone or notification tone
So, another little question, specific to HTC Mail app. Is it possible to change the notification sound for HTC Mail specifically? I havent found a way yet.

I can select in there whether or not there is a sound at all, but not which specific sound. Unless I am missing something...
Thanks
Thanks Dayzee, your post helped me out!
The Jones - I believe the HTC mail app uses the default Android notification tone you set in the usual place.

Hmm, thanks for confirming that. Shame, slightly annoying actually, I want a different sound for incoming work emails. The sound of me not reading them usually!!
I agree that it is odd not to be able to select a custom notification for the HTC email app. In fact all notification events should be grouped together somewhere for control and customisation.
Plenty scope for improvement in that area though.
speaking of sounds, my alarm is horribly low volume, even though i set both ringer and notification sounds to max....ahm, what am i missing?
huh, 2-3h later discovered that when picking out alarm sound, volume rocker is used to set alarm volume....kinda silly to hide it like that :/
I'm really missing a notifications app in general that will allow me to choose loits of different things like colour of light, tune/tone etc for various functions.
There's an app called Missed Call that allows you to choose colour for SMS flashing notification and for missed calls and I think bluetooth but not much else.
Would be FABULOUS to set a few personal contacts to have their own indicator colour

RingTones dumb question. . .

I did not see the same folder structure I am used to on the evo3d for Ringtones.
I did find a \media\audio\notifications but I was only able to use these for Notifications like text messages. On my Hero I used to have a seperate ring tone for each person that calls on a regular basis. (Kinda nice not to have to look at the phone nad know how is calling).
Thanks in advance,
Brandon

After the reboot it is working now.

[Solved] How to disable the "beep" sound when changing Volume?

How do I disable the "beep" sounds when changing the volume using the volume rocker? My device is a rooted Dell Venue 8 3830. I tried to find the ogg file in system/media/audio/ui so I could delete it, but it wasn't there :crying: .

It din't work. No touch sounds, but the beeps still persist. Thanks for the suggestion though.
NP I just searched like crazed man to no avail. Going to try a Trump card and see.
Edit: Nice mystery sound. OK going to go deeper.
Edit 2: It's not .ogg or .mp3 but I think it's somewhere in a file. Like in a jar¿ this is my new ocd issue. I'm going to sleep before I tear apart the whole ROM and break something.
Glad to know you're still looking into it. Right now I'm trying to figure out if messing with the values in the files below will help me. The last two seems to be related to the overall sound quality, volume, sample-rate conversion, routing and stuff like that. But I'm hopeful about the first one though.
/system/etc/parameter-framework/Settings/Audio/AudioConfigurableDomain.xml
/system/etc/asound.conf
/system/etc/asound-vv.conf

Might be able to silence it from the top file. Just skimmed through it. Will look into it in the morning. Long day today and start class's tomorrow for at&t tier 1-2, so I'm getting my season binge finished tonight, the incredible hulk and smash squad! I'm still brushing up on my code but that first file will get a good look early afternoon tomorrow. Left my laptop plug at home today. Feel kind lame for doing that, lol. You're on the right track tho! It's getting annoying when I'm adjusting music volumes. Didn't know it did it there too.
Solution
Finally found an easy solution:
1. Install Xposed Framework, if you already haven't and then install the latest GravityBox[KK].
2. Open Gravity Box, go to "Media Tweaks".
3. Tick the option "Mute Volume Adjust Sound"
4. That's it. [No restart required]
I recently updated GravityBox[KK], and saw this option.
Thanks a lot devs of GravityBox. :highfive:

Installing custom ringtone

If you use the Android app called WearMedia you can push Mp3 and Ogg files to your watch to use as custom ringtones. Be sure to set your default upload directory to Ringtones on the watch tab, then choose the audio file you wish to push to your device. Once it is sent, restart your watch. After restarting your watch, go to Settings>Sound>Watch ringtone>choose your newly uploaded ringtone here. Hope this helps some of you.
Edit for less confusion:
To clarify, for less confusion, the ringtone choice is the 4th (last) option within the Sound setting. Be sure you choose your new ringtone within this menu and not to leave it set to Vibrate only. [emoji6]

Yes. I even tried uploading them to the notification folder, still a no go. I updated to MM on Thursday night, don't know if that has anything to do with it.

It shouldn't. I'll do a step by step video here shortly of exactly what I do. Maybe were doing something differently.

Ok.
Edit:
Got it figured out. It was the last option. It was set on vibrate and I did not realize it was an actual setting for anything other than setting the type of vibration. You might not in your directions that it is bottom or 4th option under sound. Thanks for the find.
So using Wear Media, I also see watch folders for Alarms and Notifications....I can obviously add audio files to them both, but does anyone know of a way to select my custom sounds as the native watch system doesn't support selection.
Thanks,
Coz

I've done a lot of playing around with this and so far the only option I can think would be to do a system dump to find out the default filename die the notification/alarm tones and replacing them with adb. Still doesn't fix the fact that most notifications only come through as vibrations though. [emoji19]

I set the custom ringtone. Tried both MP3 and OGG. When I set them, they play nothing, except in the preview of what the tone sounds like. When someone calls, nothing plays, when using the custom tone. If I use one of the default ones, it works fine. I restarted both my phone and my watch, a few times.
I have yet to figure this out. Maybe there is a way to use adb to push the ringtone to the default folder where the ringtones are located. Anyone have an ideas?

Question Has anyone figured out how to get Google Voice to use a ringtone instead of a notification sound for an incoming call?

I have never had this problem with another device. My Google Voice is set to use data instead of the native phone dialer and that means the app has to ring when someone calls me. Unfortunately this ends up being my default notification sound just repeating endlessly. When I go to the ringtone list, there are no ringtones there, only notification tones to choose from. This is extremely obnoxious and while setting my watch to intercept notifications from Voice is a workaround, it's not ideal.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app to no avail. I did find a video where someone had this problem on a Pixel but they were able to resolve it since the Pixel doesn't limit you to notifications or ringtones in the selection menu, both are readily available. This doesn't seem to be the case with Samsung though.
A possibile workaround is coping app your desired ringtone file into the notification folder from the ringtone folder. I accidentally added all my notifications files to the ringtone folder and they all showed up as possible ringtones so the same could work both ways I assume

I learned this a long time ago, glad it still works. Ever since about android 8 I've had my personal set of tones I prefer so I keep both folders on my PC and every new phone gets them copied to the respective folders
