xperia sd card fix remount sd as internal - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

here i have a fix for xperia phones that are not allowing the users to use there sd card correctly.for this fix you need to have root
before attempting this i advise you do the following as i hold NO responsibilty
1. backup any files that require modification
2. make a full backup.zip and move this from sd to pc
3.backup all of your apps from internal memory so that after the change you can restore all app data to the "new" internal storage
assuming you have root and follow above
use any root explorer to browse to system/etc
find vold.fstab and rename to .bak
download vold.fstab for your device
transfer to phone (internal or sd)
use root explorer to copy file from (where you placed it ) to system/etc
reboot phone
recover all app data
now sd card should be working fully as internal storage
if you require a fix for the phones not here please send me vold.fstab and i will modify the file
Please note these files for the moment are for stock ICS

changelog
28/11/2012
added xperia j
8/12/2012
replaced xperia go file
21/12/2012
added xperia sx (untested please give feedback)

I think u must change the permission of the copied file to rw-r-r.... Is it not necessary....???
cant use sd card as MSC connectivity... Works only MTP connectivity...???
It is like swapping internal memory to External memory and vice verse rite...??

Sorry for question , but I don't really understand what it need to fix? Could u explain?

when using the sd card on the xpeira go the sd card wont be used for apps as standered all apps and app data are sent to the inernal
memory and not to your sd card this means when you have filled your small internal memory (4gb) no more apps games can be downloaded if you find that this is the case you can use is this to swap your sd card and internal memory around so that if u have a 32gb sd card like i do you can use this to store all the information on your phone (as you hope to be able to do with your sd card )

[Q] Gallery 3D showing multiple images

Hi there... just recently upgraded from stock 2.1 to stock 2.2 ROM. Everything is working great, fast and snappy and such. But after 2 days, i suddenly noticed that images under the Gallery 3D app are 5 times repeated(?). However, when I check the files using file explorer, there is just one copy for each image... This happens on all the images I have on my external SD card. All files I have on my internal SD card show up just fine. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
try move them to external sd card then move them back to its original folder...mine works..

thanks for the reply... tried it but it's still the same. i still have 5 copies each for a single image... even a reboot and gallery cache wipe did not help
I had the same problem after flashing a ROM.
Solution: with root explorer (or adb ) delete
- /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.media/externalXXX.db
- /sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media
reboot

Worked!!! Thank you very much... you literally saved me from doing a soft reset
Had this problem also, but only for pictures stored in the external SD card that I added. I did an experiment and moved them to the phones internal sd card and it eliminated the problem. Weird, anyone know why this happens??

but you mean for both... swap and partition? with cwm?
in that case, could you explain briefely how to do it and what should i do first? I mean, with my sd card (format it, reflash the new rom after that...)
sorry I'm a bit lost in this things...
And if i did the partitions and i wouldn't be satisfied how may I undo all that?
If its too much to explain here if you knew any page to send me I would apreciate it
thanks!!

First and always and most importantly. Prepare. That means making backups and preparing yourself for the possibility of losing your sd card or phone .
Steps:
1. copy contents of sd card to computer. you will lose the data stored on your sd card by doing this.
2. reboot to recovery
3. go to advanced
4. go to patition sd card
5. choose how much for the sd-ext size
6. choose how much will go to swap size(usually half of the ext size)
7. reboot phone
8. wait for a while
9. copy contents from pc to sd card
10. enjoy

thx for ur explanation!! but how much is recommended for each one ext and swap? and where do i recopy in sd card all the things i copied before in computer because i guess i would see my sd card with different parts when getting it into computer... and last one i promise may i go back to my sd card original way without partitions? in that case how?
thx!!
depends really on your sd card. for swap i took about a third of my ext size. recopy it to your sd card. your computer wont show you the ext and swap size anyway. to go back it will be the same way.

512mb to ext3
256 to swap.
thats my configuration, you can alter it, but dont use ext3 partition more than 1gb. causes instability.

Hi demoniacs!! I wanted to tell you it defenitely worked!! I'm astonished how wonderful my phone is now!!
But I must tell you forgot to tell me to activate a2sd so when I did it as you told me, I didnt see any difference with native moving...
Finally I found the way to activate a2sd in minicm7 development thread, by Ferotakis, going to Cm settings, performance...and when I restored my apps with titanium backup I could see that everything was moved to sdext!!! thx gooddd!!! I could do it!!!
Now my phone has full of space for more apps, more free mb of RAM, and I'm very happy!!!
so thanks for your help!!
if anyone keeps wanting to do this partition and swap this thread is awsome!!

1. Format SD and partiton it with CWM on phone make yor ext part and swap (I must say I put demoniacs advice:512mb for ext, 256 for swap) if yo want swap ig not live it 0
2. Install this lovely rom
3. Go to CM seting under performance put the a2sd (first show none till reboot)
4. Go to CM then hit apps and tick the "allow app moving to external "
5. Open terminal and type free
6. Go to CM again then performance again then to a2sd and chek there must no say NONE and must be a2sd
7. Install some apps then rootexplorer and browse in root dir on your phone you will saw ext folder open it and look your apps will be there

sd ext fix for xperia go ONLY TESTED ON GO ICS

hi all i have been very annoyed with sonys attitude to getting the sd card mounting wrong even after speaking to them online and over the phone i got the same reply ... this is not a fault with sony this is something you will need to contact the app devs. unhappy with this i tried fixes found on the www all came up with the same problem it all works fine on the phone but not on pc so after a bit of work i think i have a solution
the vold.fstabs in the /etc needs to be tweaked as with all others on the net but this one works with the pc as well.
has been tested on my device if you replace it with the file attached (root access required ) after renaming original to .bak .
reboot device if you get sd error on reboot please delete and restore orginal and post your finding
please note i am not a dev i have some knowledge but just a hobbyist
i hold no responsibility MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP

Hi.
Is this a bug on all Xperia GO?
I don't have any issue with my SD card on my phone, everything are working like it should i believe.
Could you please explain what kind of problem this is? The SD EXT card i believe is the extra memory card you insert into the phone. If so, i don't have any problem with that one.
Thanks in advance

this is a problem with all go and as far as i know all xperia 2012 phones where the internal memory is partitioned to system and user the user is then mounted as sd card meaning that after 4gb no more app data can be installed etc. this means that you SD CARD is unusable for apps and app data (apps2sd) will try to install to sd card but go to internal memory

Uhu, I messed up.
I did everything you said, but right after restarting, some apps (usbotg, media service etc) stopped working and some apps as well, I think they were in internal storage.
One thing, as you were saying, the ext_sd will be sdcard and the sdcard will be ext_sd?
[Xperia Go] are the mountpoints the same in JB?
If I switch my internal and external sd mountpoints using ICS, will a upgrade to JB using SUS overwrite the(modified) vfold.fstab?
Isuspect the upgrade will unroot the phone
can i use in xperia go JB st27i? i tried, but unsuccessfully

once you have done this you need to reboot for it to change ( before you do this you need to backup all your apps from the internal memory so that once it has all been changed you an restore your apps

ok so in effect they do the same thing where as that apps wont change the mounting all it does is link the folders (like windows libarys) for each game folder what i have done changes the phones software to make it think that the sd card is internal storage so the sd card will be used for everything that interal storage would normaly be

backup the entire sd card on PC first. now format ur SD card. Restore android_secure and Android folder ( i think there are some necessary files inside this for the ROM even though im not so sure )
now try restarting. if the ROM isnt rebooting Restore all from backup in pc into the rom and then restart again.
I would advise u have a card reader before u try this method.
Cheers :highfive:

how about do a cwm back-up, then a titanium back-up, then copy the clockworkmod folder and the titaniumbackup folder to you computer, then format your SD card, then copy the clockworkmod and titaniumbackup folders from computer to the newly formatted SD card, then perform a restore on both cwm and titanium?
I havent tried this yet though...
