QUICK START GUIDE TO GET A 3RD ROM INSTALLED
#1. Tap "Swap 2nd/3rd ROM positions
#2. Tap boot to 2nd Utils
#3. Install a new 2ndROM
Done!!...
-----------------------------------------
Use the latest version 4.5.1 apk from the dropbox link above... the direct links below are ancient. Ignore. (Will get round to updating one day )
Basics:
What is SiyahMods?
>>>SiyahMods is an app which works with Siyah kernel and its Dual Boot functionality.
>>>It has a series of operations which manipulate your 2ndROM as well as allowing a 3rdROM as well. The exact same cool operations are mirrored work on the 3rdROM too.
What can it do?
>>>SiyahMods can boot directly into 2ndROM, 3rdROM or Siyah recovery (2ndROM utils from S-tweaks). It can also swap 2nd/3rdROM positions as many times as you like.
>>>There is also a ROM tools menu which allows for both 2nd & 3rd ROMs, the following functions:
1.> Shrink ROM image file size to save space
2.> Restore ROM size to default 1.5GB (1536MB).
IMPORTANT: The restore function is necessary for Siyah recovery dual boot functions to work properly.
To flash a CWM zip to 2ndROM it must be 1536MB. So before flashing a zip run this restore function. After you can shrink it again if you like.
Also to swap primary with 2ndROM you must restore to 1536MB.
Restoring a Nandroid backup you can just format 2ndROM system first.
You CAN make a nandroid back up from Siyah recovery WITHOUT restoring the system image size. (Backup 2ndROM from a shrunk size WILL work).
3.> Mount system image. To either /2 or /3 directory for 2nd and 3rd ROMs. So you can access the system to manually push apk's edit build.prop etc.
4.> Unmount
5.> Name ROMs
6.> Remove (delete) ROMs
>>> the "?" Button allows you to toggle popup information prompts ON or OFF which help guide beginners and allow last minute aborting of operations. Once you know what you're doing toggle off for faster access
PLEASE USE THE LATEST APK LINKS ABOVE THE LINKS BELOW ARE OUT OF DATE

Check by downloading root explorer or any other root access file manager and viewing system folder while using 2nd rom. I use wanam which is under 1GB so Omega should be the same-ish. I will be adding a 1.15GB version soon. That will def be big enough.

New sizes added:
450MB perfect for Cm10 2nd ROM (with a bit of breathing room)
1.125GB safe size for nearly All deodexed stock and custom ROMs (Omega, Wanam...)
1.5GB restore to default. !!NOT tested for backup- restore to 2nd ROM/swap ROMs/clone tool in dual boot utility app yet

is this above a question ?

flashed 1Gb script without BACKUP (just for testing) and the sec rom boot fine ! 128 mb left on system !
great job mate ! i`ve been waiting for this !
it must be a MUST on every OP !
-=-
(Q!) what if i`ll flash again Siyah ? will it keep the same size ?
-=-
... i`ll try myself
-=-=- ANSWER
flashing siyah 1.7rc1 , same size system partition kept for sec rom !
i`ll thank you again !

The zips will work as long as the size of the one you choose is bigger than the size of the 2nd rom /system partition... having said that there is 20-30mb needed for file system stuff so don't cut it too fine
The smaller system.img file should stay how it is until you format 2nd rom partition or try some other operation which breaks so restoring default 1.5gb size.

Well with a locked boot loader any "custom" ROM are all going to be about the same. Since we cant overclock, or upgrade past 2.3.3 yet. They are all just tweaked a little differently, like my ROM in comparison to COLA, has only a few minor differences... IT-ROM has the camera mod built in, has toggles built in to the theme, carrier name removed, and a few other cosmetic changes.... the next update will have tweaks built into the build.prop, adds a green dialer theme, and replaces font with stock font. This is my first attempt at playing with roms. It was more of a learning tool for me to get the basics down for removing system app, replacing system app, and what not.

Hey thats awesome info! I was wanting to do something like that but wasnt sure how to make a update.zip, and really didnt want peope to have to reflash the entire ROM again, i know how frustrating it is to have to re-do all your desktops, and widgets, and re-enter al your accounts and sync info.
Would you mind PM'ing me, or post it here, on how to make the symlinks, i am 100% unfamiliar with doing that. (im still learning all of this) Even if it doesnt work with the COLA based ROM, i'd stil like to learn this for future projects, and well, just cause its something I dont know how to do, and I ike to learn.

I know a little bit too, don't worry. You need to keep the Setup Wizard APK which, if absent, breaks the Home button in case of a data wipe. Plus, even if you put a /data folder, it can be empty.
XIT, I think the best that you can do for the symlinks is to grab another ROM (from the Play if possible), unzip it and check its symlinks. I'm not too sure of what symlinks your ROM needs. You can see the symlinks in the update script file in the Meta-Inf folder.

wont work.
locked bootloader cant flash a whole filesystem and datasystem
thats why UK rom has to be flashed as nandroid
1-2 files with the wifimodules work because your just pushing something
but when you try to
format /system
push /system
format /data
push /data
it basicly is going to wipe out CWM recovery in the process because if ur aware the CWM resides in system folder
so yes it wont work for locked bootloader
also I wouldn't keep setup wizard because it is a costly file to keep when it's never needed
the cost is about 1.2 mb not including data if i remember correctly.
so its gone.
when you use nandroid backup you dont need it anyway
I think you're right, I forgot about where the cwm was.

ya i know because i've tried it myself
i created update .zip and the CWM would always return error
i could never get it to work as many times as i tried
I like it, very nice. Plenty of space, apps and drawer loads faster. I implamented the "adb shell, pm setInstallLocation 2, exit". That way I can choose pretty much any app to be moved to sd or installed to sd. Stable rom so far today, no issues.

Swapper [Root Users] Reduce Lag and Save Ram

So what is Swap?
A swap file allows an operating system to use hard disk space to simulate extra memory. When the system runs low on memory, it swaps a section of RAM that an idle program is using onto the hard disk to free up memory for other programs. Then when you go back to the swapped out program, it changes places with another program in RAM. This causes a large amount of hard disk reading and writing that slows down your computer considerably.
I can say Swap file is like Virtual Memory on your PC.
New Info:
For those who struggle with the Free on terminal Emulator, the swapper will still work. Here is the simple Instruction. Just make as 100-128mb Swap then put it to 50 swappines, reboot and done.
The Swapper can Work on Many Devices. I tested it on Neo V, Arc S and Samsung Galaxy SII
Just to make sure it supports this kind of Feature. Free to try it, its harmless.
Requirements:
-Any Rom- (Tested on Acronium 4 and I-Scream)
-Custom Kernel- (Tested on KGT and Xarc Kernel)
-300+ sdcard space-
-Terminal Emulator-
Source: Google Play
or Attached File
Start:
Download the Swapper2 and install.
2. Go to terminal emulator type "Free" without the Quotation.
Make sure you see "0" on the Swap

3. open swapper2 go to Setting, Swap size=32 MB, Swappiness=60. (You can Play on the numbers you want I just displayed a Default Swap Settings.)
Go Advanced preferences check "Recreate swap file" and "Reformat swap" then exit...
4. Open Swapper2 click ON it will show some Fail.
Just wait for few secs or mins and it will continue. If not, Click the ON again.
5. Go to terminal emulator type free and you will see that the "0" has been replaced.
Hit thanks if you think I helped.
Note:
This just give Everyone Idea that Swapfile is working without Partitioning your SD cards.

Notes:
Risk Free..
Enable/Disable Swap
Safe SD Card
Free to experiment what Numbers is suitable on your Settings.
The swap file Works well when your system Ram went low that can help Handling Running Process and Multitasking.

Update.. 0.1
---
For those who cannot do the do the Swap due to Kernel Issue
Here is a new way without using the Swapper 2
SOLUTION: How to make simple ZRAM init.d script
1. Using Root Explorer, got to /sytem/etc/init.d/
2. press Menu then create new file
3. paste these in it
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
sysctl -w vm.swappiness=60
echo '1' > /sys/block/zram0/reset
echo $((60*1024*1024)) > /sys/block/zram0/disksize
mkswap /dev/block/zram0
swapon /dev/block/zram0
Click to collapse
4. close and save it as 99zram
5. set permission to 777 or "rwxrwxrwx" (tick all)
6. take note: 60*1024*1024 = 60MB zram disksize. if you want to set 30MB, change 60 to 30.
Thanks.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work on the stock kernel as we don't have the ramzswap module. But as I mentioned here it looks like it could be compiled as a loadable module if someone was willing to do it. Any takers?

Although it creates the script, the fact that the stock kernel is swap locked doesn't allow that same script to run.

The stock kernel doesn't have zram either. Nor of course is zram a 'real' swapfile, it's just a compressed area of ram.
Unless you want this thread to be full of posts just saying "swapon doesn't work" or "function not implemented", if I were you I'd change the text of your first post to say that this is only for devices with unlocked bootloaders using custom kernels.

This Post is ONLY for ICS AND JELLY BEAN!
Earlier Android ROMS need ONLY The V6 SuperCharger Script !.
Note: The webapp is NOT working on some newer roms! The strings to be edited are slightly different and the webapp needs updating!

IMPORTANT UPDATES!
===================================================================
August 25, 2012
Many thanks to pepcisko! He made a windows exe version of my Jelly Scream script which does EVERYTHING!
Get the Jelly Scream Patcher for Windows!
===================================================================
August 15, 2012
Instead of manually editing (Step 5 in the Tutorial below) or using the not yet updated webapp... you can use my new Jelly Scream Smali Patcher script!
Includes ALL the new edits below PLUS TONS MORE!
Just run it like my other scripts and be sure to have both ProcessList.smali AND ActivityManagerService.smali in the same folder as the script!
===================================================================
July 10, 2012
I found more edits to make the launcher even stronger!
I wasn't able to find a way to prevent other apps from getting ADJ 1 - UNTIL NOW!
When other apps have ADJ 1, along with the launcher, this makes the launcher weaker than it would be on non-ICS/JB ROMS!
Google Account Manager or Location Service, for example, would never have ADJ 1 on GingerBread.
On non-ICS/JB ROMS, the launcher and ONLY the launcher, could have ADJ 1.
===================================================================
And now.... the same can be said for Ice Cream & Jelly Bean!!
 ===================================================================
Obviously, the webapp has not been updated as of yet so stay tuned for that.
For now, the new edits can only be done manually, old school.
I marked the new edits in the tutorial with a -=NEW=- notification!
===================================================================
ICS/Jelly Bean Installation Steps - Easy as 1, 2, 3!
1. Run the NEWEST V6 SuperCharger script as always.
Note: You may get Segmentation Fault errors running the V6 SuperCharger script on ICS due to a flakey su (superuser) binary.
To resolve the issue, you can:
A) Go HERE for a fixed su binary. No more fugly segfaults! - Thanks to wraithdu
OR...
B) Go HERE and get the SuperCharger Starter Kit!
2. Patch and install services.jar by whichever method you like best. Your options are:
A) Automagically - Use the latest Update 9 RC* and select ICS Service Centre's Automatic Transmission! (seemless webapp integration and installation to automatically make your launcher Die-Hard!) Actually, when you run V6 Update 9 RC* for the first time, this option will be selected by default... so you really don't have to do ANYTHING...
B) Semi-automatically - Make your launcher Die-Hard with the ICS OOM Priority Charger webapp (latest Update 9 RC* can install and apply permissions via ICS Service Centre's manual mode)
C) Manually - Follow the complete tutorial below or/and use Jelly Scream Smali Patcher script to automate the actual editing!
3.SuperClean & ReStart! (ie. Wipe Dalvik Cache & Reboot)
Notes: For decent launcher detection use at least V6U9 RC6.9 or newer and check the bOOM Stick to see if the launcher the desired ADJ value!
.......... - Boot will take a LONG time as it "optimizes all your apps"
.......... - If it doesn't boot (unlikely if you did the edits yourself), try wiping caches (not data)
.......... - If it still doesn't boot, you can always just re-flash your current untouched rom but do have a backup nevertheless.
.......... - If you get FCs, fixing permissions will solve that. (Use the "Fix Emissions" Option in the latest V6 SuperCharger Script! )
That's It!
========================================================
WebApp Info - Mod your services.jar instantly with the ICS OOM Priority Charger!
Just go to http://android.mimic.ca with your devices browser and follow instructions!
In case of upload problems: If your Android browser closes while selecting file to upload, use Opera Mini web browser because it lets you select a file from within the app. Just copy services.jar to the sdcard first
CWM zip option is available!
But if you don't get the CWM zip, and instead download the modded services.jar, you can:
A) Do Steps 8 to 10 below! But first In Terminal Emulator, just type su and enter, busybox mount -o remount,rw /system and enter (Mount system as read/write).
OR...
B) Use the ICS Service Centre's manual mode in V6U9RC*
Help for webapp: Go to http://webchat.freenode.net , channel #v6_supercharger and talk to blk_jack (or me if I'm there)
Important: The webapp WON'T WORK for ODEX roms! ALL Stock ROMS are ODEX (I think... ) So if you have a services.odex file, you have to do it manually as described below
ODEX UPDATE! - You can now have the process somewhat automated on Windows with a batch script courtesy of rexstor .
..................................... - See [Guide][Batch][Odex Rom only!] To get another 50% v6 Supercharged script for ICS!
Deodex and ODEX Note: You can now use the ICS Service Centre's manual mode in V6U9RC9 for Steps 8 and 9 below!
========================================================
OK I got ICS SuperCharged!!
The problem with SuperCharging ICS is that ICS doesn't read ADJ values from build.prop or local.prop - they are hardcoded into services.jar!
So the script alone can only give you a 50% SuperCharge Level with only the V6 SuperCharger script.
Patching services.jar gives you the other 50% along with a SuperCharged Launcher!
ICS users still have to run the V6 SuperCharger script just like before! Use V6U9 RC6.9 or newer for decent launcher status detection!
Note: Of course, the V6 SuperCharger script is ALL YOU NEED on all previous Android ROMS!
So the mod below is for getting the Launcher at a SuperCharged Priority on ICS!
This is akin to the ADJ entries in build.prop or local.prop on earlier Android ROMS which don't work on ICS.
What gets changed?
I rearranged Priorties on ICS like so:
Code:
System -16 (stock)
Persistent Process -12 (stock)
ForeGround app 0 (stock)
Home Launcher 1 (Die-Hard Launcher) (stock=6)
Perceptible app 2 (stock)
Visible app 3 (stock=1)
Heavyweight app 4 (stock=3)
Previous app 5 (stock=7)
Service 6 (stock=5)
Backup app 7 (stock=4)
Service_b 8 (stock)
Hidden app min 9 (stock)
Hidden app max 15 (stock)
As you can see, there are ALOT more app categories now lol
I also decided to give a new app category a higher priority - Previous Apps.
Users with low ram devices will definitely be pleased with that
I was actually able to load Angry Birds, ran a different app, and went back to Angry Birds and it didn't have to restart.
It's practically unheard of for that game to stay in memory like that on my device
I really don't understand the logic of making Previous apps more killable than some app that you were using awhile ago (ie Service) so I fixed it

Note:
This just give Everyone Idea that Swapfile is working without Partitioning your SD cards.

now u can play hd games without lagg!
why not enable "swap partition" in advance settings? that's what i usually do. also the phone runs a lot smoother with swap running all the time on ics but i'm just terrified that my beautiful 32gb class 10 sd card would be damaged. how do you use swap exactly?
edit: scratch that
Edit: also its reccommened to disable zram while using swap as the 2 conflict. Imo that is a bit of work if you dont have have swap running all the time because everytime before and after games you gotta enable and disable two scripts.
I tried this out, and still booting. Lol.

also, what's the difference if i use swap partition.?
thx :highfive:

[GUIDE] How to enable swap memory

well this is a guide to increase your ram capacity using a swap partition (it doesn't increase your actual Ram capacity, it just act like a virtual memory)...there are many great guides in xda i just thought of this cuz most of those guides are a lil bit complicated and outdated (using command prompt) for new users (and i'm a beginner aswell)... if your phone is kinda laggy due to heavy using this is what your looking for and make sure your kernel supports swap ..
currently swap supported kernels for Amaze:
Faux v.31
(thats according to my knowledge the stock kernels doesnt support it and if the CM kernels support it let me know i'll add it)
WARNING: there are chances that this mite degrade your sd card life
what you need:
1. a ext micro sd card class 6 or higher more than 2GB
2. following 2 apps from playstore MemoryInfo & Swapfile Check and Swapper 2 (for Root users)
3.make sure you have busy box installed
4.4ext recovery or twrp (my instructions are based on 4ext recovery)
okay lets start now..this is a step by step guide and the most easiest way..
Click to collapse
1st step
backup your ext memory card 1ST and then boot into 4ext recovery and go to TOOLS>>PARTITION SD CARD it'll look like the below screen shots ...skip the 1st 2 options as they're for increasing your system capacity and app sotrage (if you want you can make those partitions aswell, but they dont have to do anything with swap so i'm skippping them) so the process will look like this..i recommend using 512 cuz it use around 256mb (i used 1gig tho)

if everything went well your info will look like this!
Click to collapse
Step 2
install the apps given above and 1st go to the MemoryInfo & Swapfile Check app and check for the swap partition status and directory it''ll look like this..
then click ram expander test and get to know your partitions and their directory name..it'll be like this
and we're interested in that partition the one called mmcblk1p2 [it mite be different if you create more partitions or else you'll have one like that the specially made partition for swap]
Click to collapse
Final step
now go to the 2nd app we installed which is Swapper 2 (for Root users) and do not turn it on right away or else it'll make a swap file in your internal sd and make it a mess also then there will be no point for the specially made partition...so once you installed the app go to settings and,
1. tick safe unmount, safe remount and run swapper at startup options.
2. swap size: 32mb [recommended] or 256mb [my settings]
3. swappiness: 10mb [recommended] or 60 [default, i use it aswell]
and then go to advance preferences and tick the use swap partition option and then click swap partition option and name it like this using your directory, mine looks like this..
done?? okay now go to the menu and turn on the swapper app...well to check if everything went well go to the MemoryInfo & Swapfile Check app and if it shows the numbers and capacity like this your golden!!!

Viper's free RAM only comes down to 200MB free when I last used it and before I manually debloated it and removed unnecessary apps. Thank god for AROMA. Usually Sense ROMS have 450mb when they're debloated, and Senseless ROMS have 500mb. Like all of mine. Even though I left Rosie.apk to make it feel nothing was missing.
Ravike you should start making custom ROMS once your exams are over (hope you are finding them easy). You have a sharp mind, you should compete with shubham. (He says he'll release his ROM in 1 month, too long IMO). It really isn't hard, just use Dsixda's kitchen, then go deeper like me and add AROMA. :good:

I was wondering, will this work Sensai Rom @SuperAfnan ?
I tried but the swap partition won't show up in the memory info swap check app.
Btw how does swap really work. All I understand is that it's virtual ram, but does it make the device more efficient and lagfree?

Yes it should, I don't see why not. And swap space, from my understanding, is supposed to do that. The trade off is that it takes some space from your SD. Not really a big deal if you have lots of space.
I think a quick Google search is better than asking though since I don't have unlimited knowledge.

So, does someone know, if Performance Control is working with this ROM?
Is SpiritFM working, too?
I am unable to dl this from mediafire(512kbps/1hr then disconnect limits me - only resumable filehosts could work then), thats why i am asking...
Btw, Vodka, nice, nice...
about mem swap - vold swap works? It would be simpliest method...
upd: or build.prop swap?
Testing now. I like the miui graphics and it's different style of launcher. If it is stable and smooth enough i will stick it to miui
Thank you so much. :fingers-crossed:
works slow at my phone, but its nice and good rom. I think i will stick with liquid again
To more smoth... Anybody who want to use this ROM, should flash also Chrono kernel (but kernel hasn't included miui boot.cpio), I feel more speed than later. hi just installed another rom ... not this one but need novathor is not present... can you help me is there a apk for version 5 ? ar also kitekat version will work here ?
You can download flashable with recovery zip that contains NovaThor Settings from here : NovaThor v1.5[02.06.2014].zip
I have tested the rom, everything was working smoothly, there were no performance issues, etc... until I installed (among few others) :
- facebook messenger
- hangouts
- gmail
- aquamail
then I did experience problem with multitasking (switching between the "big" apps like messenger, hangouts, gmail caused a lot of "reloading") ;/
unfortunately it seems there is still not enough memory for these more resource-hungry apps running in MIUI.
So... well... got back to CM11.
Anyway - great job PolishVodka for porting MIUI - for someone less demanding (not much services running in the background) it is beautiful and really smooth.
EDIT: 20.01.2015 : I mean I got around 150MB after the installation (I have similar amount of free ram in CM11 but after installing every application I need). So... after I install apps like hangouts, fb messenger, gmail , etc (which create a service running constantly in the background) the amount of free ram is decreasing and reaching a level where sometimes (depeding on the luck the system is unable to smoothly cycle through all the applications without much reloading of the newly picked applications as while trying to launch hangouts (lets say) the least used app and its service (let's say fb messenger) may got killed in the process so the fb messenger service will try to start asap and switching to ui of fb messenger will take long time few times it also killed the mp3 player in my case .
Conclusion - if someone uses this MIUI build for : calling/sms, listening to mp3, occasional web browsing, maybe one or two apps like fb messenger (which runs a service in the background) - the rom will be VERY smooth and you should be very happy by using it And it is not the fault of this build (it's the best one so far) but well... just MIUI is very resource hungry... would be much better if ACE2 got 1GB of RAM.
Is there menu window, because i dont see it sorry for stupid question
[With this Rom is it possible to send videos by Whattsapp, because i know that it's an AOSP issue.
Thanks
Very smooth before you install any app. Guess our device is too old for this. Thx btw, great job
