Need some questions answered about Team Venom's Viper3D Rom/JBear H-Boot Issues - HTC EVO 3D

Running Viper3D 1.0.0 Nightly on my Evo, I think I updated it in August or September last. I know they push light updates here and there that add new features or bug fixes, but lately I haven't been able to acquire a recent update. I went to the infectedrom forum where the Viper3D is posted and when I click the Nightly folder on androidfilehost there are about 8-10 posts. Now at the beginning of the posts they say like Oct 12, Oct 15, Oct 19, etc. But they also have a 88kb zipmd5 file below each 600+mb zip file which confuses me. Before androidfilehost changed, it just had one specific file that you download, flash, and done. But I tried to open the .zip file and the zipmd5 file and it comes back with error (bad). I'm using 4ext testing rc by the way.
Also, I recently s-offed using JBear (don't know how to spell it off hand) using the wire trick and installed the custom JBear hboot and for some reason when I place a PG86IMG.zip on the root of my SD card and boot into fastboot, it says "CID Incorrect update failed" for some reason.
If anyone can give me a pointer as to what I'm doing wrong or to what I need to do, please take the time and tell me. Much appreciated. Thank you.

if you look closely you'll see that the files on androidfilehot have a particular revision number too. the latest right now is r202. so it would look something like this "Viper3D_19Oct12_0656_r202_s.zip". theres no need to download the md5 zip.
people get corrupted zips mostly because they use IDM to dl. I'd suggest you dl from your browser (chrome or firefox)
As for the PG86IMG issue i'm not sure. If you are a gsm user you should downgrade to 1.49 using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906172

Hey guys, what's up? I'm also running viper 3d on sprint with the latest radios s-off. In the latest update r202 in the settings, the system update option is missing. Along with firmware, data profile, and prl update are missing too. The last update r192 had them but not the new one. I reflashed the Rom a few times and still the same thing. Does anybody know what files and apks are missing and how I can implement them into the Rom to make it work again?

Okay thank you very much for clearing that up for me. before androidfilehost changed I used to download them from my phone using Dolphin Browser and they seemed to flash fine... Until now. I downloaded the latest and when it got to 633mb it said download failed. What is IDM or whatever you mentioned? Also, what's with the zipmd5 files then?
I'm using the Virgin Mobile Evo V. (CDMA) hboot 1.57. I think it might have something to do with JBear's custom hboot, but then again I could be wrong.

That is important information. Since you have an Evo V instead of the Sprint model, the CID in the android-info.txt file that's included in the PG86IMG.zip files intended for that phone is SPCS_002 instead of SPCS_001. There is a note regarding this on the OP of the Viper 3D ROM thread.
Changing that will allow you to flash the PG86IMG.zip, but be very careful since flashing files intended for other phones can cause serious problems.
You might want to review this thread to see how other people with the Evo V have handled it.

Its happening with me too...
I have downloaded r195 and r202 like 5-6 times from every browser..and the dl completes but whenever i open the zip it gives error

[Viper3D_1.0.0_R284.zip] Phone Stuck while boot up
I have tried several flashing the latest rom by viper3d and the phone gets stuck after it says HTC EVO 3D, and then it flips over and it has a picture of a viper with the words VIPER 3D. It just stays there. I've never had a problem with their previous roms. I'm not sure what is wrong. Can someone please help me. Here is my recovery information.

Check the OP (or several recent posts) in that thread. The current version (r284) requires hboot 1.58 or JBear 1.58.5858 to boot, although virus posted recently that he found a way to remove that restriction so the next version may not.

is there an easy way to upgrade my hboot to 1.58 or JBear 1.58.5858? Or do you suggest that I stay at my lower hboot version?

[Q] Absolutely unable to get root access on Evo 4G (old hboot version). Help?

This is now the second day that I'm trying to root my Evo 4G. So far, I've unlocked the bootloader using the htcdev.com method, but I can't get root access. I think my problem is an old version of hboot (0.99.0001, got it from latest HTC software update [2.3.4]), since the Revolutionary tool is saying that my version isn't supported. I've looked all over for how to update my hboot to 2.15 or 2.16, but nothing has worked. I still have S-ON.
I've tried flashing Amon Ra via command prompt (hangs on "waiting for device") and using the Android Flasher program (hangs on "please wait while your phone is flashed"). I've followed all the steps in the first method on this guide (androidforums com/evo-4g-all-things-root/488901-revised-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html, but to no avail.
How in the world do I go about rooting this thing? Or even just updating my hboot version? I'm at my wits' end...
Bump... Can anyone help?
Can you post everything that you see in hboot?
If you haven't already, try running an RUU to get you to the latest version (or hboot 2.16 of you want to use revolutionary). Once you've got the RUU to run successfully, follow the rooting method for your hboot version. I'm still back on hboot 2.02 and haven't used any of the newer rooting methods, but I can try to point you in the right direction if you give me your hboot info.

I've tried running a few RUUs, but the process never finishes. I think it hangs on "waiting for device" whenever I try it.
Edit: I just tried running RUU_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed.exe and it produces an error 155 ("unknown error") - "The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again."
The issue is that you used the HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader. The HTC Dev method doesn't truely root your device. Actually from what I've come across so far, it does nothing but cause issues . I agree you need to RUU back stock. Have you tried putting the PG IMG on the root of your SD Card and going into bootloader?

Yeah, I have the PC36IMG zip on the root of my SD card. I can access the bootloader but I don't know what to do from there, and everything I've tried hasn't worked.
It should see the IMG and ask if you want to update. It should say something like press volume button up for yes, or down for no. You want yes, then let it do it's thing. Just follow the prompts.

Do you have an Evo 4G (aka "Supersonic") or do you have an Evo 4G Shift? If you have a keyboard, it's the Shift.
If so, you need the RUU for your device which will not be a PC36IMG, but have a different name.

Yes, I have the Shift. What RUU do I need?

You would best using the 2.2 RUU. Just go over to the Shift forums, it'll be easy enough to find. Look in the Development section.

[Q]Help. Need to restore Kernel, Stock Rom. NO RECEPTION for many days.

Hi guys, I've searched the forums for days now and tried many recovery methods, all which end in failure.
Basically my Evo which is on cyanogenmod is stuck on the wrong kernel, and I now have zero reception.
I even tried going into sprint, but their tech told me the first step towards recovery is going to be installing the right kernel.before I can do anything or get service again. He even let me take a picture of the Kernel info on an EVO LTE in the store.
The method of HOW to install the right kernel is where I am completely at a loss and would appreciate help.
I believe I'm looking for Odin
Stock Kernel
Stock Rom
and the steps it takes to do it
I am rooted.
I have TWRP v.2.2.2.0
Here is what my Hboot looks like.

I have tried multiple RUU's which end in Failure and errors.
I've tried placing a stock recovery image and flashing it through Hboot.
UPDATE: someone told me I need to re-lock before I can flash a RUU.
so I re locked. and then ran an RUU and it finally completed successfully...
and now my phone has nothing but H boot.
no more TWRP
no more Rom
still have adb and electricity so if there is any way of saving my phone I'd appreciate any pointers.
UPDATE 2: after being stuck in fastboot only for the last 7 hours and trying all the recommended RUU's, I decided I'd try anything, so I re-did htc dev unlock.
I was then taken to my boot animation of cyanogen mod and nothing else.
I just rebooted into recovery and ::huzzah:: TWRP is still intact with 2 old backups of cyanogen mod.
I am going to be very careful of where I step next because all I've managed to do is dig myself deeper.
this is the one step forward in an otherwise downhill **** eating of grand magnitude.
I just read a google voicemail transcript for a video gig that I just lost because I never got the call.
I am thinking of installing the most stock rom I can, taking it into sprint, and claiming ignorance in hopes that they will just swap it out.
I'm now going to check if flashing the RUU_JEWEL_CL_JB_45_S_Sprint_WWE_3.15.651.16
got my reception back...
Here's to hoping!
Which ruu did you run? If an old ruu and you still have hboot 1.12, any time you flash a ROM the correct kernel will also be flashed in the process.
I've never used ruu before, but it seems weird to me that after RUU, there is no ROM on your phone.
Do you have an SD card and card reader and PC?
Also, your twrp version is very outdated.
Using fastboot, you should be able to fastboot flash recovery to update TWRP. If you're unsure how, om4 has a great guide in either the general or general sticky section.

Odin is the upgrade utility for Samsung, our equivalent is basically the HTC RUU packages. I would suggest re-running the ruu or running either 1.15 or 1.19 to restore the phone. If you want to continue using custom roms you should go to unlimited.io and follow the directions for soff

:what: Well... you can disregard that post about gaining s-off, that is a thing of the past now that you fully updated to the new baseband and hboot. If I might as (you don't have to answer as it doesn't really matter now) Why were you still s-on with hboot 1.12 in the first place??

Honestly I have no idea.
I rooted my phone like the 2nd day I had it.
I also had on OG evo that I had rooted the entire time I owned it.
I never learned about s-off. I just wanted CM10, tethering, and adfree.
This is the reason for all of this to begin with:
on CM10, I had working 3G, but also 4G here and there.
my connection would drop out all the time to zero, or 1x.
Still had bars though, just no mobile data.
oh yea I have an air rave, does that make this story more fun?
anyway.
After getting a different answer, literally every time I went into sprint and asked about 4G.
It's on! it's coming next month! we have a repeater just in this area! it's coming on next month!
I decided it was my phones fault and that I need it back to factory.
I even have backups named "dec 2012 LTE works" and "DONT **** THIS UP"
And now I am here. twrp and fastboot are the only things I can access now.
I'm thinking of taking it into sprint with a stock image flashed
and letting it bootloop no matter what they try.
It'll still say "relocked" "tampered though"
I guess unrooting is my best next option?
I'm so clueless it's probably pretty funny to some of you.
the latest RUU I flashed is RUU_JEWEL_CL_JB_45_S_Sprint_WWE_3.15.651.16_Radio_1.12.11.1119_NV_2.87_003_25007_release_299302_signed (1).exe
does this mean my kernel and radio are updated now?
Yes should be. But now you may have more problems now with the new hboot then you had to begin with. Hboot 2.09 has more security features.

[Q] : Want to load latest JB update, and just had a few questions

Currently I am on Baseband : 1.12.11.0809 and rooted with S-off.
I would like to get on meanbean, which requies that I update baseband.
I was't 100% sure on how to do this while still retaining S-Off.
I have downloaded the 3.15 ruu plus root, can I just load that and it will update everything and keep me s-off, or is there something else that needs to be done to ensure I retain s-off, with the latest update?
Anyhelp information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
I was reading the below thread, but wasn't sure if I installed the above RUU that s-off will still remain.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026938
Thanks.
This will be the easiest since you are soff. Make sure the file is named PJ75IMG.ZIP and place on your external sd card. Boot into bootloader and it will ask if you want to update. Download the firmware minus Hboot and kernel.

Thank you both for the info, I just went ahead and updated successfully.
Out of curiosity is there any functional difference between hboot 1.12 and hboot 2.09?
On another note, I noticed that bigdaddy is running a different PRL then I have, is there a recommened PRL to use, or is it trial and error to see which one works best?
On a sidenote Thicklizard, I am also in the chicago area, nw burbs.
Thanks again for all the help.
There are a few PPL threads here on XDA I went with the recommendation from digiblur he takes the PRL's and dissects them the see what each offers
As for hboot 2.09 it seems HTC is trying to make it harder for us to have full control of our devices when we are S-ON
Here is an article you can look at http://www.pocketables.com/2012/12/...es-for-rooted-s-on-htc-evo-4g-lte-owners.html
But being S-OFF you can always manually update the firmware just like you just did

Unique Problem - My Evo 3d does not apply the updates when it downloads

I bought 3d evo a year ago and I tempered with it at first to root. I could not root it but it was s-off. Anyways , this whole time I thought I was getting updates and such because I was receiving update notifications and downloading them, and phone was restarting afterwards , so I thought everything was ok. Then, recently I checked software versions in settings and I was shocked. My phone was exactly the same as the first day. Then I tried to do a hard factory reset from settings. It did not work. Tried again from the bootloader menu, it did not reset again. There was a method by relocking it at first and using RUU's to make it back to original state. I relocked it but RUU file did not work , i think it was incompatible and gave an error.
Here are the version numbers in settings:
Android version - 2.3.4
HTC Sense - 3.0
Software - 1.20.468.6
This is the bootloader screen:
*****Relocked*****
****Security Warning*****
S- On
Hboot 1.49.0018 Emm-boot Oct 3-2011
I have a phone which can not revert to original state and can not apply any updates. Hboot version is an issue I always see guides about 1.50.
Do I have to start over and S-off first ? I have tried everything, putting pc86img.zip file to sd card , it reads during bootloader but does not ask to update. I tried sprint ruu file from windows but it did not work either. Need directions because I am really pissed off. Please help. Thanks.

I suggested in another thread that you should try 4EXT recovery and use the "format all partitions except SD card" option before flashing the ROM.
Have you tried that yet?
ramjet73
you need s-off, non-ics bootloader and updated radio. 4ext recovery is good for evo 3d
where do i get the bootloader and radio? i installed 4ext and formatted all partitions and now jb roms just restart at loading screen.
OK, the same exact thing happened to me the other day, even though i had the newest radio and Hboot 1.4, JB roms still wouldn't boot.
I tried everything, but the only thing that fixed it was to run an RUU, then reflash Hboot 1.5 or lower (i am using 1.04 ENG), after that, (using 4EXT recovery) JB roms would boot!
Don't worry, you will remain S-OFF after the RUU.

I guess it comes down to how badly you want to run the JB ROM's. If you know for sure that flashing the RUU will mess up your boost flash then I wouldn't do it, but if you don't know then only you can decide if it's worth risking $50 for a Boost re-flash if it doesn't work.

My advice would be to stay on a ROM that seems promising for at least a week and try to get some help in that thread to resolve whatever issues you have rather than bouncing around from thread to thread. Any ROM is going to take a little time to settle in and for you to get more familiar and comfortable with it.
ramjet73
i did like that one, but the lag was a problem it had since hte beginning and seems to be sparatic from different users experiencing it. i dotn knwo if there are multiple versions of hte evo 3d or maybe ther eare just some conditions that are different from soem people that are hard to track down. but that is a specific problem they had over 3 versions.
CCCRRAAAAPPPP...... i think updating the firmware broke my phone. my account cannot be validated.....
well. seems iv already hosed my phone..... can i get the link to those ruu's again and maybe some help figuring out which one is for my evo 3d?
if its already hosed suppose theres no harm in the ruu now.
ok. with ramjet73's guidance i have gotten up and running with a stock rom. i should be unrooted. i am s-off. hboot 1.58. no working recovery
what do i need to do to root and get jb roms working. hopefully not doing whatever it is i did wrong before.
thansk for the help.
Just to give an update, i flashed an ruu and have s-off. i did install teamwin recovery and can run ics roms it appears. however it seems jb roms still cannot boot.
i am stuck and not sure where to go from here.
Did you flash Hboot 1.04, 1.4, and or 1.5? JB roms will only boot using them.

here is a hint for anyone that may be having the same trouble. i do not know if this was the issue, but install 4ext last. it was after a reinstall of 4ext that it started working. i do not know if this is what did it or if i just got lucky. as i read some people jsut have troubles and have to ruu adn do it all over again to get it to work. before doing this, just in case, try re installing 4ext. maybe that is a hint to what people cannot seem to find the problem as it does not happen often. maybe, i dont know. just glad its working.
