[Q] Is it safe to install a launcher from playstore and uninstall the default? - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Is it ever safe to install a launcher from the PlayStore and uninstall the default launcher in the ROM?
What could possibly be the consequences? Will any additional mods that I install to the ROM get disabled?

Yes, it is safe. But i suggest you not unistall default launcher, just freeze in titanium

Yes it's absolutely safe... I have installed apex launcher instead of trebuchet in CM10 by FXP
And its much better and has more customization options...
I suggest you copy trebuchet apk from root menu and then replace it by nova or apex launcher

Sure, but don't uninstall it. Just use the other one as default. Otherwise if you do a factory reset you have no launcher

That's great. Also, which Launcher is suggested which uses less resources and has a lot of options.
Personally, I like GoLauncher but it scares me to see how much resources it uses...

That's what I thought. Have been trying out different launchers and this one is cool...way better than GoLauncher

DON'T DO IT! Your new launcher will be in data partition whereas your default launcher will be present in system partition! Factory reset will result in bootloop. If you desperately want to get rid of the stock launcher then mount the system partition writable and move the downloaded launcher to /system/app and then you can safely uninstall the default launcher!
Hit thanks if I have helped!
Sent from my smultron using xda app-developers app

it is completely safe to uninstall the default launcher.
but i freeze it instead of uninstalling it.

Good to know this, maybe i'll change the default launcher of CM if I reinstall it again on my SK17i

Hmmm...thanks a lot for the tips guys

TouchWiz Launcher, ICS LPQ...

Hi, i just installed a LPQ ROM, but it doesn't have the TouchWiz launcher (Yes, I like it), so i copied a touchwiz30.apk (something like that, i don't know if it's the correct one) in the system/app folder, but when i try to "open" the launcher it just forces close...!!! Has anyone experimented that??? Is there a fix? Or something like " TOCHWIZ 4.5 for ICS"?
TW UI is the default Launcher for the official Android 4.0.3 ROM
If you copied from GB, does`t work. Copy from stock LPQ rom
why do not you try the nova launcher? This is available in the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher

nova launcher is lame compared to tw4.5. nova is slow, and u cant even create folders as u can do in TW4.5 . lack of tw4.5 is the reason for me not to install 4.0.3.
probably he feels the same i do

Sounds like you didn't install the official release from Samsung. If you didn't, and the ROM maker removed the TouchWiz framework, you'd be better off re flashing the official Samsung release, as there are a lot more components than just that one .apk.

See above. Official Samsung releases will ALWAYS have TouchWiz.

[Q] Samsung Touchwiz 3.0 And Launchers

Hi Everybody:
I'm new in Android. I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830L) and i want to install Go Launcher Ex, but i have a question: if i install the launcher, the default interface (Touchwiz) will be uninstalled? If i install Go Launcher Ex, and i want to uninstall it, i can get Touchwiz Again?
Thanks in Advance
If u install a launcher like go launcher and set it as default
U will need to go to
settings
Applications
The golauncher and set as stock to off
If u have uninstalled twlauncher with root
And dont hav backupp
Look here

Ok, but, installing Go Launcher Ex Doesn't necessarily forces me to uninstall Touchwiz, doesn't it? Because i don't have root access (yet).

Nope
No launcher removes other launchers
Unless your launcher is a system launcher

¡Excellent! Then I will install it!
spacecaker, Thank you for your help.

Need Some Help

I'm using Miracle V4 ROM and would like an iPhone look so I'm using iLauncher, and I've few questions that I need help on,
1. It came with LauncherPro, should I uninstall it as I'll be using iLauncher?
2. Best website to download iPhone icons?
3. Which keyboard to use that looks like the iPhone keyboard?
1.You need to delete the app with rootexplorer or solid explorer in system/app to uninstall a sytem app wich this is because it cam with the rom.
2.Search google I don't use ilauncher
3.There is a iphone keyboard on the market
1- depends on u. if u want u can uninstall it. no harms done. but ONLY unistall it after u install your preferable launcher.
2- in layman term, u cant. but for advance answer is yes, by getting your hands dirty and decompiling apk and replacing icon in it. and dont ask me howto do it. easier just use any launcher that include app icon theme eg qqlauncher, go launcher, 360 launcher etc.
3- search in market. many thirdparty keyboard got iphone theme.

Do I decompiling the .APK icon before installing the app or after and I choose the option Delete in Root Explorer to uninstall LauncherPro?
Just realized that iLauncher has the function to change apps icon
P.S - Do I place iLauncher .APk in System apps or install it in CWM?
u can copy it via root explorer to system/app but set permisions rr-w and reboot

Flashed RR, but want trebuchet

So yeah, i just finished flashing latest resurrection remix to my i9100, but i want to keep the stock launcher (trebuchet), is there anyway to delete xperia home launcher (its not listed on my apps list so i can not uninstall it the normal way) and just leave the trebuchet stock launcher ?
Thanks
you can use this to delete system progs and move trebuchet over to the system
or you can just install Trebuchet and use this to ensure it is used as the default

Install a file Manager with Root access and then go to system/app and then search for the xperia home launcher and delete it.
You can also just install the Apex launcher or the Holo launcher HD, they are practically the same as the trebuchet launcher, but with more functions.

In addition to what they've said, I've read the RR 3.1.0 Changelog and they said that they've included the Trebuchet Launcher from CM 10. I can't confirm it for now though because I'm currently using CM10 Nightlies, but currently downloading the ROM right now.

[Q] Nova Prime Launcher as a System App

Are there any benefits of converting nova launcher into a system app?
Does it make it faster? More Stability?
Inputs would be highly appreciated..
Meh, doesn't really make a difference. ROM cooks usually puts it in /system if they're using it as the main ROM launcher, but there aren't any advantages for a normal user. You can do it if you want to, though

Just download a new launcher (Nova, Apex or whatever you prefer), delete the stock Sony launcher from system/app, and you're done. No cooking is needed, but you'll need root.
Thank you very much , You're a star ,I am glad i don;t have to go to the kitchen
restart
If you do get rid of the stock launcher and u put lets say the google kitkat launcher google placed on the play store in the /system app folder and u need to reseat the device would the os install the launcher in the app folder or would it not touch it so when it starts up there is no user face, and if so how can u put aosp launcher back onto it and where would u find the launcher?
