[Q] New to Android. Question on Rooting Galaxy S3! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
So, to start off I'm new to android. I was an owner of iDevices for 3 years and only 4 days ago made the decision to purchase a galaxy S3. I'm loving the new learning experience and messing with Android and this BEAST hardware!
Here's my question though. I currently own a MacBook pro and want to root this S3. When rooting an android device is a new ROM automatically installed or is the stock ROM just modified to allow root access? I Like the TouchWiz interface and don't want to change the appearance of my device (just yet anyway). I just want to be able to perform root-only tasks.
An answer would be much appreciated!

No ro0m nothing changes bar root access .

It's still the same touchwiz rom just with root. You can boot windows in bootcamp on your mac and flash root package via odin.....i dont know if heimdall supports mac, search for it

Rooting your phone won't magically make it update past 2.3.5.
Regarding how to root your phone, there are stickies in these forums with all the information you need.
thank you, I understand everything now (at least I hope so.)

root?

Hello could someone please point me in the right direction to root this thing. I've notice there are different methods and a lot of brick talk on here so I'm a little reluctant to use one.I'm not new to the root I have rooted my evo,intercept,g2, galaxy tab. But all those seemed pretty safe I have t 201 and I updated to ics. One more thing I don't care much about the roms just want to run rooted programs so is it even worth it with such a new device?
I rooted mine with sparkys root but first use the unlock tool <unzip your unlock tool prior>...sparkys app is easy either download it with your computer then place in the file of your liking to open and install the app... or i think you can just download it from his page in developement with your prime. And has uproot available which I have done and then rerooted just for fun... enjoy your rooted Prime..

[Q] Tablet DENVER TAC-10011

Hello,
I'm with this machine the tablet DENVER TAC-10011.
the answer is: in this tablet i can install another rom?
Thanks
hello
Hi
I have no doubt you could not try install custom rom. I own exact same device and I'm just letting you know I've haven't tried yet but I've done some search about roms but I didn't yet encounter with something made for TAC 10011 so I suggest you look for ics 4.0.4 made custom rom what works on most tablets/phones. Also if you download root checker from google play and run the test you have already root acces or the files because I ran the test and it proved it also I figured it out earlyer that I could run some root apps so you don't need to look for root because you already have it.

Sorry that I've didn't answer earlier I had to do some things and reset some stuff but I've done some research and I've was partly wrong about few things first about the root it seems that system tells TAC 10011 has root but still no. This can be littl weird I just found that some root apps actually don't require root but still can run it on partly, I don't think you will not find custom rom but I'm not sure about if you go ahead and flash a rom what is incompatible and possibly bootloop whole tablet so I'm not recomending it. Just I've not done it once I've learned more a bit you could do still one thing. Since this is developer site witch im not heh still you could ask other developer make a rom for TAC-10011 posting new threat some options...

hello,
Develop a rom for this TAC-10011 would be a great idea. in this case would be an ICS rom but faster (...) I do not understand is nothing to build a rom ... lol
But hey, after some research I saw that the machines AllWinner, B-PAD, and BoxChip have the characteristics very similar.
Best Regards

Bricked?
My TAC-70031 is not booting anymore, last night it showed 2% battery and I guess it turned off during the night. Doesn't boot even when charging
any news?
Hi I was wondering if anything new came up for this deviceā€¦
It's components should be able to run something more than 4.0.4. which is really laggy!
But I can't find anything about it, if anyone knows anything about Denver tablets I'd appreciate it.

[Q] Galaxy S3 i9300T Australian - Rooting Procedure

Hey all,
--hoping I'm posting in the correct section--
Recently I happened to acquire a galaxy S3 i9300T (australian) from a friend who didn't need it any more, with 4.1.2 jellybean installed on it.
Specifically the vodafone DUEMB1 version/build from Thailand. I'm living in Southern Europe though.
I hope it doesn't matter much, even if it's the Australian model of the phone.
It seems to already be network-unlocked.
I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction since I'm mainly interested in rooting it.
Mainly for the super user rights (all folder access) and to be able to run applications such as titanium backup. It's all that matters to me for easy backup.
I saw in one thread that there is the Chainfire CF-auto root that is supposed to make this very easy.
Is it compatible with the version and build I have though? Or should I first install another stock rom version or something?
Also last question. After the root, is it mandatory to install anything else or is the phone good to go ?
Thanks in advance and sorry if a question seems silly, I'm kinda new to this.

Chainfire CF auto root will be easy to follow as it was the first rooting method i did with my Galaxy S3 Australian model. Good luck!

First off welcome to XDA ! To root your device I would recommend checking out this thread and downloading the root tool from the link in that thread. Make sure to follow the onscreen instructions of the bat file included in the root tool very carefully that you will use to root your phone. If you have any questions about anything involving the rooting process, or have any questions at all about Android customization of Android in general feel free to ask (You can PM me as well if you want).

The root procedure should still work with 4.2.2 but to be on the safe side I would recommend instead checking out this thread that will show you how to root your LG G2 (D802) with the shipping ROM (Android 4.2.2). Make sure to watch the video in that thread (At least) twice over that way you feel comfortable with the root procedure, and what is involved. As far as does it effect the bootrom which I take it you are referring to your devices stock ROM that is on the device. Rooting does not effect the stock ROM on your device it just gives you root file system access and superuser privileges (Root user, which is like administrator privileges on Windows), in the process of rooting your device the Superuser app and su binary will be installed this is what allows you to run root apps and other root tasks. If you still have questions let me know.
thanks so much mate , i appreciate the help you gave , :good: ,

Glad you got it rooted! The next step if you want to customize it further is to install a custom recovery image such as TWRP following the instructions in the thread. A custom recovery image will allow you to backup your stock ROM, flash custom ROMs, custom kernels and other MODs. For custom ROM's Cyanogenmod 11 for your device is a great custom ROM to start with lots of great customization options and performance tweaks. I would start with these and then I would check out the G2 D802 Android Development Section, if you want to customize further. Always happy to help people out, let me know how it goes :good:.
